    I'm having a difficult time understanding how to get Rails to show explicitly the error messages that a child resource is failing on when I render an XML template. Hypothetically, I have the following classes: class School < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :students validates_associated :students end class Student < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :school validates_format_of :email, :with => /^([^@\s]+)@((?:[-a-z0-9]+\.)+[a-z]{2,})$/i, :message => "You must supply a valid email" end Now, in the controller, let's say we want to build a trivial API to allow us to add a new School with a student in it (again, I said, it's a terrible example, but plays its role for the purpose of the question) class SchoolsController < ApplicationController def create @school = School.new @student = school.students.build @student.email = "bad@email" respond_to do |format| if @school.save # some code else format.xml { render :xml => @school.errors, :status => :unprocessable_entity } end end end end Now the validation is working just fine, things die because the email doesn't match the regex that's set in the validates_format_of method in the Student class.     Trying to compile an application (flite synthesis sapi) on vc++6. This requires Microsoft Speech SDK 5.1 Have included C:\Program Files\Microsoft Speech SDK 5.1\IDL C:\Program Files\Microsoft Speech SDK 5.1\include using Toolsoptionsdirectories and also on another attempt via ProjectSettings Repeatedly get this error microsoft fatal error C1083: Cannot open source file: 'files\microsoft': No such file or directory speech fatal error C1083: Cannot open source file: 'speech': No such file or directory sdk fatal error C1083: Cannot open source file: 'sdk': No such file or directory idl fatal error C1083: Cannot open source file: '5.1\idl': No such file or directory FliteCMUKalDiphone.idl Thought it may be spaces related so included full path in quotes in relevant .h files. No joy Installed Microsoft Speech SDK 5.1 on another machine in same folder as flite and renamed to mssdk51 (so no spaces in pathname) but same error came up. Tried pasting in contents of each .idl called in file where glitch seems to generate Still same message. I am new to C++ and programming in general. My only guess is that something in the speech sdk is calling the .idl file and I can't find where from. Of course this is probably way wrong!

    I downloaded Ardour yesterday, it worked, edited an audio file done. Come back today it wont start I get this: Ardour could not start JACK There are several possible reasons: 1) You requested audio parameters that are not supported.. 2) JACK is running as another user. Please consider the possibilities, and perhaps try different parameters. So I try and look at qjackctl to see what happening there.     I started with two clean machines this time. I have my home directory mounted from a different partition but I tried to create a new user account and I could log in without any kind of problem. The home directory is not encrypted, at least not to my knowledge. Some log files: Xorg.0.log dmesg.out kdm.log xsession.errors

One of my points of confusion is the difference in domain of the atan2 function html canvas coordinates and the Box2d rotation information. I know I have to account for this somehow...   • Rsyslog problem after ubuntu upgrade 10.4 to 12.4

    I was using Ubuntu 10.4 until last week for storing the log informations of a external device with rsyslog. After upgrading to ubuntu 12.4 the logging of TCP doesn't works anymore. (There are just no pakets visible - not even with tcpdump - aold ubuntu machine still sees the pakets.) UDP works with the identical configuration on the ubuntu machine and a "use UDP" on the external device. Are there any changes in rsyslog, that could explain this?   • Avoid overwriting of logs

    What usually happens is, the logs get filled up and begin getting overwritten, which makes them useless. To avoid it, use these 2 properties in the logging.properties file to suit your requirement: java.util.logging.FileHandler.count  = x (it is 1 by default, increase it to a bigger value) This number specifies the number of log files that can be created before overwriting starts. For instance, if you set it to 5, java0.log, java1.log ... java5.log will be created to log details so more information can be captured Likewise, java.util.logging.FileHandler.limit  would specify the size of each log.

  • SQL Server 2008 - Error starting service - model.mdf not found?!

    my SQL server 2008 was running fine. About an hour ago, it suddenly stopped - the MSSQLSERVER service had stopped I right clicked, clicked start, and it said the service had started, and stopped I looked in the event log and saw these two errors: 17207 : udopen: Operating system error 3(error not found) during the creation/opening of physical device C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data\model.mdf. 17204 : FCB::Open failed: Could not open device C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data\model.mdf for virtual device number (VDN) 1. The model.mdf db has NEVER been in that location - i specified drive F: to use for data / log during install. I checked the SQL Configuration Manager, to try and set startup params, but SQL Server is not listed as one of the services..... EDIT: I've now moved the db to where it was looking for: C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL\data\ directory. Now if I start the service, it still does not work - i get this error message in the log: Could not find row in sysindexes for database ID 3, object ID 1, index ID 1. Run DBCC CHECKTABLE on sysindexes. Interestingly, i checked the error log - around the time users reported problems, there is this: 2010-01-08 17:11:26.44 spid51 Configuration option 'show advanced options' changed from 0 to 1.
