  • System.ArgumentException: Invalid hex character at DecryptAssemblyResource

    - by Radu094
My webapp is trowing these exceptions intermitently ever since we migrated to Mono + Apache: The error sounds more like a problem reading/processing some assembly, so I was wondering if I should be worried that there might be a problem with the hard-drive? System.ArgumentException: Invalid hex character at System.Web.Configuration.MachineKeySectionUtils.ToHexValue (Char c, Boolean high) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at System.Web.Configuration.MachineKeySectionUtils.GetBytes (System.String key, Int32 len) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at System.Web.Handlers.ScriptResourceHandler.GetBytes (System.String val) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at System.Web.Handlers.ScriptResourceHandler.DecryptAssemblyResource (System.String val, System.String& asmName, System.String& resName) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at System.Web.Handlers.ScriptResourceHandler.ProcessRequest (System.Web.HttpContext context) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at System.Web.Handlers.ScriptResourceHandler.System.Web.IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest (System.Web.HttpContext context) [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at System.Web.HttpApplication+<Pipeline>c__Iterator2.MoveNext () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 at System.Web.HttpApplication.Tick () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0 Method: Void Application_Error(System.Object, System.EventArgs) at File: at Line Number: 0 Method: Void ProcessError(System.Exception) at File: at Line Number: 0 Method: Void Tick() at File: at Line Number: 0 Method: Void Start(System.Object) at File: at Line Number: 0 Method: Void System.Web.IHttpHandler.ProcessRequest(System.Web.HttpContext) at File: at Line Number: 0 Method: Void Process(System.Web.HttpWorkerRequest) at File: at Line Number: 0 Method: Void RealProcessRequest(System.Object) at File: at Line Number: 0 Method: Void ProcessRequest(System.Web.HttpWorkerRequest) at File: at Line Number: 0 Method: Void ProcessRequest() at File: at Line Number: 0 Method: Void ProcessRequest(Mono.WebServer.MonoWorkerRequest) at File: at Line Number: 0 Method: Void ProcessRequest(Int32, System.String, System.String, System.String, System.String, System.String, Int32, System.String, Int32, System.String, System.String[], System.String[], System.Object) at File: at Line Number: 0 Method: Void InnerRun(System.Object) at File: at Line Number: 0 Method: Void Run(System.Object) at File: at Line Number: 0

  • To HTMLENCODE or not to HTMLENCODE user input on web form (asp.net vb)

    - by Phil
I have many params making up an insert form for example: x.Parameters.AddWithValue("@city", City.Text) I had a failed xss attack on the site this morning, so I am trying to beef up security measures anyway.... Should I be adding my input params like this? x.Parameters.AddWithValue("@city", HttpUtility.HtmlEncode(City.Text)) Is there anything else I should consider to avoid attacks? Thanks

  • Project tracking/management tool

    - by Alvaro Rodriguez
Which project tracking tool do you use? Does it allow programmers to bill hours worked to projects/tasks? Does it allow to track items promised vs. items delivered? Does it allow to forecast personnel needs when you have only a ballpark estimate of how many hours you are going to need for different task types? Does it integrate with your bug tracker? [Mantis] Does it integrate with your source control tool? [Subversion] Does it allow you to easily publish your schedule and current priorities to team members? Does it produce reports on any or all of the above? Am I even right in calling a tool that does those things a "Project tracking/management tool"? What does your tool have that makes you love it and use it every day? I don't really care about Gantt charts. I find Microsoft Project quite clunky for this needs (although I'm hardly an expert user).

  • Custom fine-grained claims based authorization system in ASP.NET MVC - wheres and hows

    - by BuzzBubba
So, I'd like to implement my own custom authorization system in MVC2. If I'd have to create a global class, where do I instantiate it? Can HttpContext be extended with my own additions and where do I do that? Should I use Authorization filters for rights validation or ActionFilters or do it within an action? Can ActionFilter pass any data to the action itself? Previously (in WebForms) I was using a Session object where I would put a serialized object containing essential user data (account id and a list of roles and rights) and I'd extend my own Page class.

  • Unable to send email using 3rd party server ( IIS 7, Windows Server 2008, ASP.NET )

    - by Reed
Hello All, I am using IIS 7 on Server 2008. I just tried migrating my app from an older platform - everything works fine, except the email feature. This is my config: < mailSettings > < smtp from="[email protected]" deliveryMethod="Network" > < network host="mail.xyz.com" port="25" userName="[email protected]" password="123" /> < / smtp > < /mailSettings > Whenever I need to send an email I use: SmtpClient smtp = new SmtpClient(); smtp.Send(email); The funny thing is I get absolutely no errors, however the email is never sent. The outbound firewall ruleset allows SMTP traffic. Any idea what I did wrong?

  • Stack calling convention between .NET & C on WinCE 6.0

    - by bernard
Hi there. I'm porting a DLL written in C from WinCE 5.0 to WinCE 6.0 on an ARM target. This DLL is called by a .NET software. On WinCE5.0, everything runs fine. On WinCE6, I have the following problem: on InitInstance() of my DLL, I can call anything without problem (for example MessageBox()) or uses recursivity. Passed that point, the DLL is called by .NET code. And then it fails: even the arguments passed by .NET code seem weird. I can call MessageBox() once, but I can't call a function that calls MessageBox() and then that calls itself: recursivity is broken. It seems that the .NET code uses the stack in a different way than my C code. I'm very unfamillar with the Windows world and the company that gives me the .NET application does not understand yet why there is such a failure. Any pointer/hint/advice welcome! Thanks!

  • retain drop down value page posting back to itself asp.net

    - by d3020
I have an aspx page that has... if (!IsPostBack) { PopulateBrand(); in the Page_Load. This PopulateBrand() simply populates my drop down. That works great and on post back it retains the value. The problem I'm having is that there is also a link on the page that is posting back some parameters to this page. What is happening is that when this is clicked it's falling through this !IsPostBack section and wiping out my drop down values that I had selected and repopulating it. How can I prevent this and just retain what I selected when this page is posting back to itself when the link is clicked? Thanks.

  • .net open auth?

    - by chobo2
Hi I know stackoverflow uses open authentication. I want to try and use this as well. I am using asp.net mvc 2.0 with C#. I found this http://www.dotnetopenauth.net/ and I am wondering if this is what was used for stackoverflow. Also any tutorials would be nice as well. Edit I am trying to load up some sample projects but when I build it in VS2010 I get Error 6 'System.Diagnostics.Contracts.ContractInvariantMethodAttribute' is inaccessible due to its protection level C:\Users\chobo2\Downloads\DotNetOpenAuth-3.4.6.10357\DotNetOpenAuth-3.4.6.10357\Samples\OpenIdOfflineProvider\TextBoxTextWriter.cs 73 4 OpenIdOfflineProvider Error 7 The type or namespace name 'ContractInvariantMethod' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?) • Testing the context in asp.net mvc

    - by user252160
I got pretty experienced with testing controllers, my question here is though, aren't we supposed to test the data context as well, and how ? I mean, there are a lot of relationships and constraints coming from the DB that simply testing controllers does not cover. On the other hand, testing against the DB is not considered a good practice - what then ? Simply testing without db.SubmitChanges() or what ?

  • Troubleshooting ASP .NET Application on Shared Hosting

    - by James
Hi, My company has a CRM site hosted externally on a shared server and recently it has been very problematic. Users are being logged out randomly, sometimes only seconds after logging in. We are also getting viewstate validation errors at times. Both problems seem to occur more often when there are two or more people logged in at the same time, but I can't really see any particular pattern. I am using log4net to track the application state and from what I can tell it seems that the application is frequently restarting, causing all sorts of issues. I can see log messages from the Application_Start event handler but there is not always a corresponding message from the Application_End event handler. There is also logging code in the Application_Error event handler but it is not catching anything at the time of the restart. These errors started to occur soon after we moved our site to this shared server, although I don't remember it being this bad at first. Any advice on how to track down these problems would be appreciated. The server is running Windows Server 2003 and IIS 6.0. Sadly I don't have access to the server other than through Parallels Plesk and it doesn't seem to have any useful diagnostic information.

  • Issue Querying LDAP DirectoryEntry in ASP.NET

    - by davemackey
I have users login to my application via Active Directory and then pull from their AD information to garner information about that user like so: Dim ID as FormsIdentity = DirectCast(User.Identity, FormsIdentity) Dim ticket as FormsAuthenticationTicket = ID.Ticket Dim adDirectory as New DirectoryEntry("LDAP://DC=my,DC=domain,DC=com") Dim adTicketID as String = ticket.Name.Substring(0, 5) Session("people_id") = adDirectory.Children.Find("CN=" & adTicketID).Properties("employeeID").Value Session("person_name") = adDirectory.Children.Find("CN=" & adTicketID).Properties("displayName").Value Now, I want to be able to impersonate other users...so that I can "test" the application as them, so I added a textbox and a button to the page and when the button is clicked the text is assigned to a session variable like so: Session("impersonate_user") = TextBox1.Text When the page reloads I check to see if Session("impersonate_user") has a value other than "" and then attempt to query Active Directory using this session variable like so: If CStr(Session("impersonate_user")) <> "" Then Dim adDirectory as New DirectoryEntry(LDAP://DC=my,DC=domain,DC=com") Dim adTicketID as String = CStr(Session("impersonate_user")) Session("people_id") = adDirectory.Children.Find("CN=" & adTicketID).Properties("employeeID").Value Session("person_name")= adDirectory.Children.Find("CN=" & adTicketID).Properties("displayName").Value Else [use the actual ticket.name to get this info.] End If But this doesn't work. Instead, it throws an error on the first Session line stating, "DirectoryServicesCOMException was unhandled by user code There is no such object on the server." Why? I know I'm giving it a valid username! Is something strange happening in the casting of the session? The code is essentially the same between each method except that in one method rather than pulling from ticket.Name I pull from a session variable for the login I'll be looking up with AD.

  • Setting objects (not users) inactive after period of time in asp.net mvc

    - by bastijn
This question is mainly to verify my current idea. I have a series of objects which I want to be active for a specified amount of time. For instance objects like ads which are shown in the ad space only for the amount of time bought, objects in search results which should only pop up when active, and frontpage posts which should be set to inactive after a prespecified time. My current idea is to just give those type of objects a StartDate and EndDate and filter the search routines to only show results which fall in the range StartDate < currentDate < EndDate. Is this the normal structure or should there be some sort of auto-routine which routinely checks for objects which are "over-time" and set a property "inactive" to true or something. Seems like this approach is such a hassle since I need a checker which runs say, every 5 minutes, to scan all DB objects. Seems like a bad idea to me. So is the first structure the most commonly used or are there any other options? When searching on google or SO the search queries only return results setting users inactive.

  • ASP.NET MVC does not add ModelError when invoking from unit test

    - by Tomas Lycken
I have a model item public class EntryInputModel { ... [Required(ErrorMessage = "Description is required.", AllowEmptyStrings = false)] public virtual string Description { get; set; } } and a controller action public ActionResult Add([Bind(Exclude = "Id")] EntryInputModel newEntry) { if (ModelState.IsValid) { var entry = Mapper.Map<EntryInputModel, Entry>(newEntry); repository.Add(entry); unitOfWork.SaveChanges(); return RedirectToAction("Details", new { id = entry.Id }); } return RedirectToAction("Create"); } When I create an EntryInputModel in a unit test, set the Description property to null and pass it to the action method, I still get ModelState.IsValid == true, even though I have debugged and verified that newEntry.Description == null. Why doesn't this work?
