• Is there an open source alternative to "Adobe Digital Editions"?

  For the moment I run Adobe Digital Editions under Wine to download ebooks burdened with ditigal restriction management. I only use it to open .acsm files supplied by ebook-shops, which contain authentication information required to download the actual DRM'ed ebook files, which I then transfer to my reader-device with calibre. My question is, if there exist open source alternatives to Adobe Digital Editions. They don't need much functionality. I just want to put the .acsm-file in and get the .epub out (no, I don't want to remove the drm, that'd be illegal afaik).

  I'm learning the basics of OpenGL with lwjgl currently, and following a guide I've got textured quads that can move around a scene. I've been reading about Frame Buffer Objects, and I'm not really clear on their purpose and their benefit. My understanding is that I'll create a FBO with the texture I'd like, load the FBO, draw a quad, then unload the FBO. What would the technique I'm currently doing for texture management be called, and how does it differ from using FBOs? What are the benefits to using FBOs? How does it fit into the grand rendering scheme of things?

• How much C/C++ knowledge is needed for Objective-C/iPhone development?

  First, a little background. I'm a .Net developer (C#) and have over 5 years experience in both web development and desktop applications. I've been wanting to look into iPhone development for some time now, but for one reason or another always got side tracked. I finally have a potential project on the horizon, and I'm now going full steam ahead learning this stuff. My question is this: I haven't done any C/C++ programming since my schooling days, I've been living in managed land ever since. How much knowledge if any is needed to be successful as an iOS developer? Obviously memory management is something that I'll have to be conscious about (although with iOS 5 there seems to be something called ARC which should make my life easier), but what else? I'm not just talking about the C API (for example, in order to get the sin of a number, I call the sin() function), that's what Google is for. I'm talking about fundamental C/C++ idioms that the average C# developer is unaware of.

• Windows 7/Ubuntu 12 dual boot deleted for Windows 8 installation. How to make grub rescue go away?

  I had a Windows 7/Ubuntu 12 dual boot and I decided to clean install Windows 8 over them. The problem is that after I deleted all partitions and installed windows I was getting an "Operation system not found", however after an "enter" the system will normally boot into Windows 8. I realized that Windows did their trick and put the system (not partition anymore?!?) "tag" (Disk Management) on my media hard drive. After trying to fix the boot/mbr to be able to boot from my main drive the "Operation system not found" changed to the "grub rescue" prompt. I know that I cannot use that because I have killed the grub files. Windows can still boot as long as I choose to boot from the media drive. The question is, is there any way to move the "system", whatever it is now, to the main drive and have the PC boot from there, while making grub disappear? And if that is possible after that, can I just make the Media drive inactive or I will have to somehow remove the "system" tag?

  Can I depend on wikipedia to learn data structures fully using the list of data structures http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_data_structures and the links they refer to? The same question for algorithms http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_algorithm_general_topics ?... What's after learning algorithms and data structures? Specializing in a certain field of algorithms such as computer graohics, memory management...etc? or what could be the plan for mastering programming after knowing the language syntax and the background about program design and programming logic? I asked about wikipedia because i would like to find a complete resource or are least a resource which would be enough for the field of data structures instead of searching for separate articles in different places in other words an alternative to books which may even be more complete.

  I'm designing an entity-component engine in C# right now, and all components need to have access to the global event manager, which sends off inter-entity events (every entity also has a local event manager). I'd like to be able to simply call functions like this: GlobalEventManager.Publish("Foo", new EventData()); GlobalEventManager.Subscribe("Bar", OnBarEvent); without having to do this: class HealthComponent { private EventManager globalEventManager; public HealthComponent(EventManager gEM) { globalEventManager = gEM; } } // later on... • how to convince other we should move to hadoop?

  Everything I've read about Hadoop seems like exactly the technology we need to make our enterprise more scalable. We have terabytes of raw data that is in non-relational form (text files of some kind). We're quickly approaching the upper limits of what our centralized file server can handle and everyone is aware of this. Most people on the tech team, especially the more junior members of the tech team are all in favor of moving from the central file system to HDFS. The problem is, there is one key (most senior, etc.) member of the team who is resisting this change and every time Hadoop comes up, he tells us that we could simply add another file server and be in the clear. So, my question (and yes, it's really subjective, but I need more help with this than any of my other questions) is what steps can we take to get upper management to move forward with Hadoop despite the hesitation of one member of the team?

  This topic gives a brief description on how we can do reconciliation of a child form attribute which is also multi valued from a flat file . The format of the flat file is (an example): ManagementDomain1|Entitlement1|DIRECTORY SERVER,EMAIL ManagementDomain2|Entitlement2|EMAIL PROVIDER INSTANCE - UMS,EMAIL VERIFICATION In OIM there will be a parent form for fields Management domain and Entitlement.Reconciliation will assign Servers ( which are multi valued) to corresponding Management  Domain and Entitlement .In the flat file , multi valued fields are seperated by comma(,). In the design console, Create a form with 'Server Name' as a field and make it a child form . Open the corresponding Resource Object and add this field for reconcilitaion.While adding , choose 'Multivalued' check box. (please find attached screen shot on how to add it , Child Table.docx) Open process definiton and add child form fields for recociliation. Please click on the 'Create Reconcilitaion Profile' buttton on the resource object tab.   My plan is to develop a web based application in the future. I think, i can named it "Booth Reservation System" for the Events companies here in our country. One of the main functionality of the system and the most tricky part/ difficult part is the user can upload a "floor plan"(the design of the area were the booth is located in any image format) then the user can select on the specific location on the floor plan to reserve the booth. Also, the user can create floor plan on the system as another functionality of the system. What do you think? What programming language that i can use to accomplished the system? thanks!
