  • python-like Java IO library?

    - by drozzy
    Java is not my main programming language so I might be asking the obvious. But is there a simple file-handling library in Java, like in python? For example I just want to say: File f = Open('file.txt', 'w') for(String line:f){ //do something with the line from file } Thanks!

  • What is the 'accumulator in HQ9+?

    - by Koning Baard XIV
    I was just reading a bit about the HQ9+ programming language ( http://esolangs.org/wiki/HQ9 , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HQ9%2B and http://www.cliff.biffle.org/esoterica/hq9plus.html ), and it tells me something about a so called 'accumulator' which can be incremented, but not be accessed. Also, using the + doesn't manipulate the result: code H+H result Hello World Hello World Can anyone explain me how this works, what this does and if it even makes any sense? Thanks

  • Call C methods from C++/Java/C# code?

    - by Mohit Deshpande
    Many of today's programming languages are based on C; like C++, C#, Java, Objective-C. So could I call a C method from C++ code? Or call C from Java or C#? Or is this goal out of reach and unreasonable? Please include a quick code sample for my and everyone else's understanding.

  • Which methods are good to overwrite when creating custom NSManagedObject subclasses?

    - by mystify
    The Core Data Programming Guide talks a lot about what not to overwrite. So the question is: What is good to overwrite? Like I see it, I can't overwrite -init or -initWithEntity:insertIntoManagedObjectContext: So where else would be a good overwrite point to set up some basic stuff? Or is it generally not needed to do custom initialization? Does the whole thing rely only on accessing properties which then start to do fancy things? So no custom initializations?

  • Manipulating values from database table with php

    - by charliecodex23
    I currently have 5 tables in MySQL database. Some of them share foreign keys and are interdependent of each other. I am displaying classes accordingly to their majors. Each class is taught during the fall, spring or all_year. In my database I have a table named semester which has an id, year, and semester fields. The semester field in particular is a tinyint that has three values 0, 1, 2. This signifies the fall, spring or all_year. When I display the query instead of having it show 0 or 1 or 2 can I have it show fall, spring etc? Extra: How can I add space to the end of each loop so the data doesn't look clustered? Key 0 Fall 1 Spring 2 All-year PHP <? try { $pdo = new PDO ("mysql:host=$hostname;dbname=$dbname","$username","$pw"); } catch (PDOException $e) { echo "Failed to get DB handle: " . $e->getMessage() . "\n"; exit; } $query = $pdo->prepare("SELECT course.name, course.code, course.description, course.hours, semester.semester, semester.year FROM course LEFT JOIN major_course_xref ON course.id = major_course_xref.course_id LEFT JOIN major ON major.id = major_course_xref.major_id LEFT JOIN course_semester_xref ON course.id = course_semester_xref.course_id LEFT JOIN semester ON course_semester_xref.semester_id = semester.id"); $query->execute(); if ($query->execute()){ while ($row = $query->fetch(PDO::FETCH_ASSOC)){ print $row['name'] . "<br>"; print $row['code'] . "<br>"; print $row['description'] . "<br>"; print $row['hours'] . " hrs.<br>"; print $row['semester'] . "<br>"; print $row['year'] . "<br>"; } } else echo 'Could not fetch results.'; unset($pdo); unset($query); ?> Current Display Computer Programming I CPSC1400 Introduction to disciplined, object-oriented program development. 4 hrs. 0 2013 Desire Display Computer Programming I CPSC1400 Introduction to disciplined, object-oriented program development. 4 hrs. • NoSQL vs Relational Coding Styles

    - by Chris Henry
    When building objects that make use of data stored in a RDBMS, it's normally pretty clear what you're getting back, as dictated by the tables and columns being queried. However, when dealing with NoSQL, document-based systems, it's less clear what is being retrieved. What are common methods of keeping track of structure in which data is stored?

  • C++ book for a c# developer

    - by Eldila
    I am a c# developer which finds himself having to relearn c++. The last time I programmed in c++ was in school and am looking for good books as a refresher. I want something that assumes previous programming exposure and gets straight to the point. Is there a book similar to K&R for c++? I know the language is bloated so a book that covers a subset of c++ would be ideal.

  • Basic string and value functions in Objective-C for iPhone

    - by David Maitland
    I have very little programming knowledge; only a fair bit in Visual Basic. How do I take a value from a text field, then do some simple math such as divide the value by two, then display it back to the user in the same field? In Visual Basic you could just do txtBoxOne.text = txtBoxOne.text / 2 I understand this question is more than one question and is very basic stuff, but I need to get my head out of Visual Basic and into where I should be :)
