• Why does Outlook 2007 lose connection to Exchange when Windows 7 64-bit turns off display?

  The problem: When Windows 7 puts the display to sleep, Outlook 2007 and also Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 lose the connection to the Exchange server. When I unlock the computer, Outlook is logged out of Exchange and prompts me for credentials (although usually I have to restart Outlook to get it to reconnect). The network connection is still active, e.g. other applications don't lose their connection to the network or Internet when Windows 7 puts the display to sleep. I'm using a Dell E5400 notebook running Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit with Outlook 2007 connecting to a corporate Exchange server (not sure if it's Exchange 2007 or 2010). The Dell is typically docked and connected via DVI (through the dock) to two Dell monitors. The Power Options in Windows 7 are set as follows: Turn Off The Display: 15 minutes Put The Computer To Sleep: never Those are the "Plugged In" settings but the problematic behavior is the same when running on battery. When Windows 7 turns off the display, it automatically locks the computer. E.g., I have to re-enter my credentials to access the machine. This is per corporate policy. The equivalent set up on my previous Dell notebook running Windows XP SP3 did not result in this problem with Outlook 2007 or Office Communicator 2005 connecting the very same exchange server. The problem began when I switched to the new Dell E5400 with Windows 7.

• Sending email with exim and external sender address

• I/O Error on LG GSA-H12N DVD drive on Windows 7

  I am facing an I/O Error when I try to burn DVD data discs on my LG GSA-H12N DVD drive on Windows 7. Note that I was able to do this same operation on the same hardware/software just a day earlier without any problems, but with Windows XP. The only change (AFAIK) has been the installation of Windows 7 to replace Windows XP on this PC. Here is the error I get when I try to burn a DVD data disc using CDBurnerXP 4.2.7.1801: Burning error occured An error occured while burning the disc. Most likely the disc is not usable. Usually these errors happen if the inserted media is not compatible to the drive or of poor quality. (devNTSPTI_IO_Error) Could not write to Disc (LBA: 52864 Length: 32). SCSI Pass-through Interface I/O Error. - 0xFF045D Note that there can be no problem with the discs since I have been using the same discs (from the same box) just before the Windows 7 installation with no problems. The only change has been Windows 7. I tried InfraRecorder v0.5 and ImgBurn v2.5 and got similar I/O errors: Note that Windows 7 lists the LG GSA-H21N drive as being compatible (see this link). I also checked the LG Drivers website and using the firware update from there updated the drive firmware from version UL01 to UL02. But, even this has not helped. The drive reads DVDs without any problem, but continues to produce coasters. Could someone help me figure out what is the problem? Thanks :)

• Java Robot class and UAC

  I am using the Java Robot class to take screenshots, my problem is that in W7 when the UAC dialog is shown (i right click on any application and select run as Admin) it will not appear in the screen shot or the whole screen is just black. Running my application with admin rights or as a service does not solve the problem. Please, does any one know what to do so that i will be able to capture the screen even when the UAC is showing?   I restarted my slave to change configuration settings to skip reverse hostname lookup on connecting and to enable the slow query log. I edited /etc/my.cnf making only these changes, then restarted mysqld with /etc/init.d/mysql restart All appeared to be well but when I connect to msyqld remotely or locally though it connects okay a slight problem is that mysqld crashes whenever you try to issue any kind of statement.   Hi This is the third time I am asking this question. I am only looking for the syntax of how to solve this problem. I am using prestashop as the cart for my website. I have a problem; the website used to be in dynamic urls. I enabled friendly url writing. The problem is that one page has more than one url. You can access a same page from the dynamic url and static url. In fact a single page has 9 different urls. This obviously creates problems for seo as search engines penalize my website for this. Here are examples of a page with more than 2 urls (http://www.turkishfootballstore.com/lang-nl/product.php?id_product=515) (http://www.turkishfootballstore.com/fenerbahce/515-fenerbahce-thuisshirt-20092010.html) (http://www.turkishfootballstore.com/lang-nl/fenerbahce/515-fenerbahce-thuisshirt-20092010.html) you can see even the static url's have 2 one with language defined and the other without. out fo the three urls above the correct one is the one at the bottom. What can I do to solve this problem? I have no knowledge of programming. Here is the htaccess for the website. Any sample code or help is really appreciated. There is 550 pages and every page is published in 17 different languages I want to use a 301 auto redirect. What is the simplest way to do it? • Emptying Windows temp folder is a good idea?

  Am using DELL Inspiron with Windows 7. As far as I know emptying the windows temp folder would be good. But I faced a strange behaviour around 8 months back, when I clear my windows temp folder. The next day onwards, my laptop starting displaying daily one or other errors and one day OS got crashed. Till now I am not sure whether OS got crashed due to clearing the windows temp folder or something else is problem. Here Windows temp folder mean "C:\Windows\Temp" This is the behind the story. Today, this temp folder "C:\Windows\Temp" contains 102 GB Most of the space occupied by the files starts with etilqs_*.*. I came to know that these files are generated due to WD SmartWare. Now my problem is:- Actually I want clean up this folder, since it occupies lot of space. If I clean up "C:\Windows\Temp" folder, will my laptop face the same kind of problem which I faced earlier OR Any new problems will occur? Please suggest me a good solution.

  In our active directory we deploy a policy to our clients where the personal directory (My documents) is redirected to a file server of ours \server\share\username\Documents In older systems everything worked fine. in Windows 7 some users are experimenting the following symptoms: * The Documents library is EMPTY * Where the documents library should be shown in Explorer an empty white icon is displayed. No caption. * Right clicking in the Documents library to edit the folders that are part of the libraries brings the dialog up. However, that dialog is unusable. No folder is present there and clicking Add folder does nothing. * Deleting the library and auto-creating it doesn't solve the problem * The shared directory can be accessed via UNC paths and it can be mounted as a shared drive as well. The library is still broken. * The shared drives are on a W2008 indexed server... * Using the Windows Library tool utility doesn't solve the problem. What can the cause of this problem be and how can this be solved?

• Eclipse on Ubuntu: Rectangles instead of Strings and some Java methods and classes

  after upgrading from Ubuntu 9.04. to 11.04 (new installation), I have weird problems with the Eclipse editor. With the Eclipse PyDev plugin, whenever I typ single quoted strings like 'bla', they appear as rectangles (both the quotes as well as the string). First I thought this was a problem with the PyDev plugin, but it also happens with Java and Scala Plugins. With Java, it happens, for example, when typing System.out.println("bla") and then "out" is shown as rectangles only. Weird is that for about half a second I see "System.out.println" and then the editor changes it to System.[][][].println (not really [] (here I used two brackets), it is shown as rectangles). This is very weird. I've never had this before with any Ubuntu, Java or Eclipse version. Currently, I use: Ubuntu 11.04. Eclipse 3.6 Java 1.6.0_25 The latest plugins for Python (2.1) and Scala (beta 5) where used. Eclipse and Ubuntu Terminal is set to UTF-8. The problem also happens when using KDE instead of Gnome. I doubt is has anything to do with Java as I use the same versions on older Ubuntu installations (10.04, 9.10, etc) at work. It does not happen with Netbeans. But I saw once error dialog message from the Update Manager where there were some rectangles in the error widget. Maybe this is the same problem Any ideas what could be wrong here and how to fix this? Eclipse is unusable but I need this for work and also for Scala and Python (the Eclipse plugins for those are very good now). Claus

• Disable CTRL+mouse wheel zooming in Chrome?

  I'm a normal-sighted person and I would like to view pages at 100% all the time. I use keyboard shortcuts that involve CTRL a lot, so about twenty times a day I accidentally hit CTRL at the same time that I'm scrolling, which results in the page being reflowed and repainted. This in is annoying because it can take up to 30 seconds to fix the issue, depending on how complex the site layout is. On sites with dynamic layout such as Google Docs the problem is more serious; accidentally hitting CTRL+mouse wheel corrupts the display and forces me to refresh the page entirely, sometimes causing me to loose information in the process. I would like to either decouple CTRL+mouse wheel from zoom, or disable zoom functionality altogether. This is possible on Firefox by using about:config; is there a similar way to edit detailed settings in Chrome? Would I have access to the detailed settings if I used Chromium instead of Chrome? I'll probably jump ship back to Firefox if I can't solve this problem. There is a superuser question that asks basically the same thing I'm asking, but for Firefox and Internet Explorer exclusively. Other people on the Chrome forum have had related issues, but none have the same problem. "I would really like it if I could deactivate the auto zoom in/out." had "something with laptops and Windows 7", not the feature built into Chrome. Other people have had PDF specific issues, which doesn't concern me. I've also tried searching for extensions that allow you to disable the scroll; I had hoped that "Zoom Lock" would have the ability to lock the zoom at 100% and prevent CTRL+scroll wheel from distorting the display, but it doesn't work for my use case. • Control copy/paste doesn't work

  I have a laptop HP PAVILION dv6-3126er with Windows 7 Home Edition installed and neither control copy nor control paste doesn't work (i've tried: ctrl+c, ctrl+v, shift+c, shift+v, ctrl + insert, shift + insert). I've tried to run a system check through cmd with sfc /scannow, it repaired something, i restarted but it didn't solve the problem. I've also tried many key combinations (like alt+ctrl+fn), but nothing works in any program. In Microsoft Word 2003 in the menu i have no key combination for copy/paste near them (in my previous comp they've been there - in brackets). Shift+Delete works by the way. I brought this laptop a few weeks ago, and i discovered this problem in the first days. I have no viruses because i have had no time to even connect him to internet. Anyways, i checked it for viruses - it is clean. I don't want to do system restore, because i see no reason to do it for a pretty clean system. I hope it is not a problem with the laptop itself. Maybe there is another reason? Maybe i need to do some more system checks? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  I was experiencing some issues with my connection while playing online and I tried to optimize it by running TCP optimizer on my PC (Windows 7 64bit professional). I thought maybe the situation could improve. but it didn't. actually, I now get an extremely slow page loading time, probably due to a very low RWIN value of 1024. I understand that Windows 7 has a system to automatically adjust the RWIN value when needed. The setting from netsh is "normal" so I guess something else must be wrong. I tried every automatic tool out there to restore Windows' default values, but I had no success. I currently have what should be labeled as "default values" for everything TCP Optimizer initially changed, but the problem persists. The thing is, I just found out that running Windows in safe mode SOLVES the problem completely. The problem is that as soon as I reboot, I get the same issue all over again. So my question is: is there a way to use SAFE MODE network settings in NORMAL mode?

I have no problem to enable billing and pay for additional CPU, but the problem is the scaling of the system… Using 6.5 CPU hours for 100 stocks is very poor. I was wondering, given the requirements of the system as mentioned above, if there is a better and more efficient implementation (or just a small change that can help with the current implemntation) than the one presented here.   I'm trying to build an intranet site using joomla. The webserver is using HTTP Kerberos authentication with mod_kerb_auth. Everything works fine, the users get authenticated and so on. But if i try to login to the administrator panel i can't because IE does not accept the needed cookies. No such problem with firefox. The intranet site is called "intranet_new" and is hosted by webintranet04, under the directory /var/www/vhosts/joomla/intranet_new/. • Why do some questions get closed for no reason? [closed]

  Recently there was a question asking about generating all subsets of a set using a stack and a queue, which was closed (and now deleted it seems) as not a real question for no good reason, since it didn't fit into any of these conditions: It's difficult to tell what is being asked here. No, it was clear what was being asked. This question is ambiguous, vague, incomplete, or rhetorical and cannot be reasonably answered in its current form. Not ambiguous, not vague, not incomplete, definitely not rhetorical and could easily be answered if one knew the solution. Now, the exact same thing has happened with this question: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2791982/a-shortest-path-problem-with-superheroes-and-intergalactic-journeys/2793746#2793746 I am interested in hearing a logical argument for why that question is either ambiguous, vague, incomplete, rhetorical or cannot reasonably be answered in its current form. It seems that (the same bunch of) people like to close questions that they think are homework questions, especially when they think people want to be served the solution on a platter, which is also not the case: Any suggestions or ideas of how this problem might be solved would be most welcomed. Most of the time the people asking these questions are very reasonable and appreciate even the most vague idea, yet their question is closed. Let's go further and assume that it IS a homework problem. So what? When I registered here I didn't see any rule that said not to post homework problems, nor do I see such a rule now. What is wrong with posting homework problems that makes people hunt them down with a passion to close them without even reading the entire question body? This site is full of questions asked by people who get paid to know the things they are asking, yet their questions are considered fine. How is solving someone's homework problem worse? In some places (like where I live), computer science is a mandatory high school subject, and not everyone is interested in it. How is helping at least those people worse than doing someone's JOB? Not answering homework questions is fine and it's everyone's choice, but I consider closing them to be an act of power abuse, selfishness, and an insult to the fellow community members who are also interested in a solution or want feedback on their proposed solution. So my questions are: - Why do questions like the above get closed for reasons that do not apply? Why do you close them? Why don't you? - Why doesn't a vote to reopen a question reopen it automatically? Needing 5 votes for a reopen takes too long, and it's not fair because one reopen vote basically cancels out a close vote, making it 4 close votes (or 5 to 1, which is the same as only 4 people wanting to close the question), which isn't enough to close the question. I think a question should only be closed when CloseVotes - ReopenVotes >= 5. I'm hoping this will stay up, but I realize it probably won't. In either case, I think this is worth saying and discussing, since it IS community-related.

• Strange battery behavior on laptop

  My laptop is behaving rather strangely lately, and I was hoping to get some idea as to what may be causing such symptoms. The problem: When charging, very minute or so it loses connectivity with the AC adapter for a split second, and regains it back immediately. When this happens the little light that indicates the computer is plugged in does flicker off and back on, but I checked the adapter by replacing the battery on my laptop, and this indeed solves the problem, so it is probably the battery which is at fault, not the adapter (I also tried to move the adapter's wire around just to make sure it had nothing to do with torn wires). I suppose that the obvious solution is to get a new battery, but as far as battery defects go- this is a rather strange one; it loses connection with the adapter, but still powers the computer, and changing the power setting to a balanced plan (was maximum performance) seem to have solved the problem too. Is there a chance this is not simply the battery, but some kind of other electronic defect? And if not, what can cause it to behave so strangely? PS I tried to recalibrate it- didn't help.
