Like a ftp client application, connect using username and password, change directory, upload file1, upload file2, upload file3, disconnect.

  • Problem with assembly loading in .NET

    - by Jamie
Hi guys, I have got two projects in my solution: Silverlight and standard one. The standard one references System.Xml assembly (version 4.0.0.0), however the Silverlight one references System.Xml assembly (v. 2.0.5.0). I want to make an instance of XmlWriter in my Silverlight project. Here comes the problem - the exception is thrown (file not found for System.Xml assembly). I believe it is a matter of different assembly versions. Do you have any idea how to resolve this issue? Ive read something about the binding redirection - is it the key to the solution? If so, how to do this? Thank you in advance for the reply! Cheers.

  • error while updating a database in ASP.NET

    - by Viredae
I am having trouble updating an SQL database, the problem is not that it doesn't update at all, but that particular parameters are being updated while the others are not. here is the code for updating the parameters: string EditRequest = "UPDATE Requests SET Description = @Desc, BJustif = @Justif, Priority = @Priority, Requested_System = @Requested, Request_Status = @Stat WHERE"; EditRequest += " Req_ID=@ID"; SqlConnection Submit_conn = new SqlConnection(WebConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DBConn"].ConnectionString); SqlCommand Submit_comm = new SqlCommand(EditRequest, Submit_conn); Submit_comm.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ID", Request.QueryString["reqid"]); Submit_comm.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Desc", DescBox.Text); Submit_comm.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Justif", JustifBox.Text); Submit_comm.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Priority", PriorityList.SelectedValue); Submit_comm.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Requested", RelatedBox.Text); Submit_comm.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Stat", 1); Submit_conn.Open(); Submit_comm.ExecuteNonQuery(); Submit_comm.Dispose(); Submit_comm = null; Submit_conn.Close(); get_Description(); Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(this.GetType(), "Refresh", "ReloadPage();", true); this function is called by a button on a pop-up form which shows the parameters content that is being changed in a text box which is also used to submit the changes back to the database, but when I press submit, the parameters which are displayed on the form don't change, I can't find any problem wit the code, even though I've compared it to similar code which is working fine. In case you need to, here is one of the text boxes I'm using to display and edit the content: <asp:TextBox ID="JustifBox" TextMode="MultiLine" runat="server" Width="250" Height="50"></asp:TextBox> What exactly is wrong with the code?

  • ASP.NET enum dropdownlist validation

    - by Arun Kumar
I have got a enum public enum TypeDesc { [Description("Please Specify")] PleaseSpecify, Auckland, Wellington, [Description("Palmerston North")] PalmerstonNorth, Christchurch } I am binding this enum to drop down list using the following code on page_Load protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { if (TypeDropDownList.Items.Count == 0) { foreach (TypeDesc newPatient in EnumToDropDown.EnumToList<TypeDesc>()) { TypeDropDownList.Items.Add(EnumToDropDown.GetEnumDescription(newPatient)); } } } public static string GetEnumDescription(Enum value) { FieldInfo fi = value.GetType().GetField(value.ToString()); DescriptionAttribute[] attributes = (DescriptionAttribute[])fi.GetCustomAttributes(typeof(DescriptionAttribute), false); if (attributes != null && attributes.Length > 0) return attributes[0].Description; else return value.ToString(); } public static IEnumerable<T> EnumToList<T>() { Type enumType = typeof(T); // Can't use generic type constraints on value types, // so have to do check like this if (enumType.BaseType != typeof(Enum)) throw new ArgumentException("T must be of type System.Enum"); Array enumValArray = Enum.GetValues(enumType); List<T> enumValList = new List<T>(enumValArray.Length); foreach (int val in enumValArray) { enumValList.Add((T)Enum.Parse(enumType, val.ToString())); } return enumValList; } and my aspx page use the following code to validate <asp:DropDownList ID="TypeDropDownList" runat="server" > </asp:DropDownList> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="TypeRequiredValidator" runat="server" ControlToValidate="TypeDropDownList" ErrorMessage="Please Select a City" Text="<img src='Styles/images/Exclamation.gif' />" ValidationGroup="city"></asp:RequiredFieldValidator> But my validation is accepting "Please Specify" as city name. I want to stop user to submit if the city is not selected.

  • Error: Too Many Arguments Specified when Inserting Values from ASP.NET to SQL Server

    - by SidC
Good Afternoon All, I have a wizard control that contains 20 textboxes for part numbers and another 20 for quantities. I want the part numbers and quantities loaded into the following table: USE [Diel_inventory] GO /****** Object: Table [dbo].[QUOTEDETAILPARTS] Script Date: 05/09/2010 16:26:54 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO CREATE TABLE [dbo].[QUOTEDETAILPARTS]( [QuoteDetailPartID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [QuoteDetailID] [int] NOT NULL, [PartNumber] [float] NULL, [Quantity] [int] NULL, CONSTRAINT [pkQuoteDetailPartID] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [QuoteDetailPartID] ASC )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY] ) ON [PRIMARY] GO ALTER TABLE [dbo].[QUOTEDETAILPARTS] WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [fkQuoteDetailID] FOREIGN KEY([QuoteDetailID]) REFERENCES [dbo].[QUOTEDETAIL] ([ID]) ON UPDATE CASCADE ON DELETE CASCADE GO Here's the snippet from my sproc for this insert: set @ID=scope_identity() Insert into dbo.QuoteDetailParts (QuoteDetailPartID, QuoteDetailID, PartNumber, Quantity) values (@ID, @QuoteDetailPartID, @PartNumber, @Quantity) When I run the ASPX page, I receive an error that there are too many arguments specified for my stored procedure. I understand why I'm getting the error, given the above table layout. However, I need help in structuring my insert syntax to look for values in all 20 PartNumber and Quantity field pairs. Thanks, Sid

  • .NET XML Serialization, possibly to use a different method name than PropertySpecified for ignoring

    - by Lasse V. Karlsen
I have a bunch of classes that I intend to serialize in order to transport over a webservice call. These classes already have properties that return whether a given "real" property has a value or not, that is ingrained in a lot of code of our product. Is it possible, for instance through attributes, for me to specify that each "real" property should be included if a specified other property returns true, but not one that is called RealPropertyNameSpecified? ie. for instance if I have this class: [XmlType("test")] public class TestClass { [XmlIgnore] public bool NameHasGotAValue { get; set; } [XmlElement("name")] public string Name { get; set; } } Is it possible for me to use the NameHasGotAValue as the "*Specified" method for the Name property, or is my only option to either rename NameHasGotAValue, add a NameSpecified method, or implement IXmlSerializable?

  • changing asp .net web service namespace when already in productive state

    - by eloQ
by some unfortunate events we published a web service with the tempuri-namespace a couple of months ago and no one did notice (not in our company, not the companies connecting to the web service) even though it's live since that time and lots of companies (~25 i guess) already access this web service. now i'm thinking of correcting that mistake and have the namespace fixed to a proper value. the only problem is: as soon as we would do it, all the programs and services connected to this web service would stop working. i can't really allow that to happen. is there any way to fix the namespace for future purpose or to have the web service operate under two namespaces as one web service? any tip at all what i could do to get rid of the tempuri-namespace and have it fixed without needing to synchronize the change with all the external companies? i'm all out of ideas, so any help would be much appreciated! thanks! I hope this question is alright here, first time user, found this through using search engines on my research and found tempuri.org related posts, just not the right one..

  • Best Practice: Protecting Personally Identifiable Data in a ASP.NET / SQL Server 2008 Environment

    - by William
Thanks to a SQL injection vulnerability found last week, some of my recommendations are being investigated at work. We recently re-did an application which stores personally identifiable information whose disclosure could lead to identity theft. While we read some of the data on a regular basis, the restricted data we only need a couple of times a year and then only two employees need it. I've read up on SQL Server 2008's encryption function, but I'm not convinced that's the route I want to go. My problem ultimately boils down to the fact that we're either using symmetric keys or assymetric keys encrypted by a symmetric key. Thus it seems like a SQL injection attack could lead to a data leak. I realize permissions should prevent that, permissions should also prevent the leaking in the first place. It seems to me the better method would be to asymmetrically encrypt the data in the web application. Then store the private key offline and have a fat client that they can run the few times a year they need to access the restricted data so the data could be decrypted on the client. This way, if the server get compromised, we don't leak old data although depending on what they do we may leak future data. I think the big disadvantage is this would require re-writing the web application and creating a new fat application (to pull the restricted data). Due to the recent problem, I can probably get the time allocated, so now would be the proper time to make the recommendation. Do you have a better suggestion? Which method would you recommend? More importantly why?

  • ASP.NET UpdatePanel PostBacks

    - by Matthew
I created a marker interface: public interface ISupportAJAXPostsBacks{} I added it to my Page.. public partial class MyWebForm : PageBase, ISupportAJAXPostsBacks I have this check in my PageBase class... if(this is ISupportAJAXPostsBacks) { ... do some stuff ... } If I step through via the debugger, "this is ISupportAJAXPostsBacks" evaluates to true for the initial page load, but evaluates to false when an UpdatePanel posts back on that same page. (scratches head) What is happening under the covers to cause this and what can I do about it?

  • Treating a fat webservice in .net 3.5 c#

    - by Chris M
I'm dealing with an obese 3rd party webservice that returns about 3mb of data for a simple search results, about 50% of the data in that response is junk. Would it make sense then to remap this data to my own result object and ditch the response so I'm storing 1-2 mb in memory for filtering and sorting rather than using the web-responses own object and using 2-4 or am I missing a point? So far I've been accessing the webservice from a separate project and using a new class to provide the interaction and to handle the persistence so my project looks like this |- Web (mvc2 proj) |- DAL (database/storage fluent-nhibernate) |- SVCGateway (interaction layer + webservice related models) |- Services -------------- |- Tests |- Specs I'm trying to make the application behave fast and I also need to store the result set temporarily in case a customer goes to view the product and wants to go back to the results. (Service returns only 500 of possible 14K results). So basically I'm looking for confirmation that I'm doing the right thing in pushing the results into my own objects or if I'm breaking some rule or even if there's a better way of handling it. Thanks

  • ADO.NET: Can't connect to mdf database file

    - by Nabo
I'm writing an application that uses a SQL Server 2005 database. In the connection string i'm specifying the mdf file like this: connstr = @"Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS; AttachDbFilename=" + fileLocation + "; Integrated Security=True; User Instance=True"; When i execute the code: public static void forceConnection() { try { conn = new SqlConnection(connstr); conn.Open(); } catch (Exception e) { MessageBox.Show(e.Message, "Erro", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error); } finally { if(conn != null) conn.Close(); } } I receive an exception: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) This code works on XP but not in Vista.. I tryed run Visual Studio in admin mode and moved the mdf file to "user data" folders but the error persists.. Any help? Thanks!

  • Am I encrypting my passwords correctly in ASP.NET

    - by Nick
    I have a security class: public class security { private static string createSalt(int size) { //Generate a random cryptographic number RNGCryptoServiceProvider rng = new RNGCryptoServiceProvider(); byte[] b = new byte[size]; rng.GetBytes(b); //Convert to Base64 return Convert.ToBase64String(b); } /// <summary> /// Generate a hashed password for comparison or create a new one /// </summary> /// <param name="pwd">Users password</param> /// <returns></returns> public static string createPasswordHash(string pwd) { string salt = "(removed)"; string saltAndPwd = string.Concat(pwd, salt); string hashedPwd = FormsAuthentication.HashPasswordForStoringInConfigFile( saltAndPwd, "sha1"); return hashedPwd; } } This works fine, but I am wondering if it is sufficient enough. Also, is this next block of code better? Overkill? static byte[] encrInitVector = new byte[] { 0x12, 0x34, 0x56, 0x78, 0x90, 0xAB, 0xCD, 0xEF }; static string encrKey = "(removed)"; public static string EncryptString(string s) { byte[] key; try { key = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(encrKey.Substring(0, 8)); DESCryptoServiceProvider des = new DESCryptoServiceProvider(); byte[] inputByteArray = Encoding.UTF8.GetBytes(s); MemoryStream ms = new MemoryStream(); CryptoStream cs = new CryptoStream(ms, des.CreateEncryptor(key, encrInitVector), CryptoStreamMode.Write); cs.Write(inputByteArray, 0, inputByteArray.Length); cs.FlushFinalBlock(); return Convert.ToBase64String(ms.ToArray()); } catch (Exception e) { throw e; }
