  Strange thing happening to me with the PreApplicationStartMethod Attribute. I did implement it in my latest project. In the AssemblyInfo.cs I have the following line: [assembly: PreApplicationStartMethod(typeof(MyAssembly.Initializer), "Initialize")] The Type and method look like this: namespace MyAssembly { public static class Initializer { public static void Initialize() { TranslationKeys.Initialize(); } } } When I rebuild my application and load it in the browser I get the following error: The method specified by the PreApplicationStartMethodAttribute on assembly 'MyWebApp, Version=0.0.1.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' cannot be resolved. Type: 'MyAssembly.Initializer', MethodName: 'Initialize'. Verify that the type is public and the method is public and static (Shared in Visual Basic). I really have no idea what the problem is.

• Join collection of objects into comma-separated string

  In many places in our code we have collections of objects, from which we need to create a comma-separated list. The type of collection varies: it may be a DataTable from which we need a certain column, or a List<Customer>, etc. Now we loop through the collection and use string concatenation, for example: string text = ""; string separator = ""; foreach (DataRow row in table.Rows) { text += separator + row["title"]; separator = ", "; } Is there a better pattern for this? Ideally I would like an approach we could reuse by just sending in a function to get the right field/property/column from each object.

  In Model View Presenter (MVP) pattern, it is said that our DAL always should returns business models. But let's say if I want to get just a number from database like the last ClientID (the latest clients ID) which is a string, should my DAL method returns a ClientInfo object which has about 10 other fields as well like ClientName, Address etc.? • Problems using FluentNHibernate + SQLite with .NET4?

  I have a WPF application running with VS2010 .Net3.5 using Nhibernate with FluentNHibernate + SQLite, and all works fine. Now I want to change to use .Net4, but this has turned into a more painful experience then I expected.. When setting up the connection a FluentConfigurationException is thrown from FluentConfiguration.BuildConfiguration saying: An invalid or incomplete configuration was used while creating a SessionFactory. Check PotentialReasons collection, and InnerException for more details. The inner exception gives us more information: Could not create the driver from NHibernate.Driver.SQLite20Driver, NHibernate, Version=2.1.2.4000, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=aa95f207798dfdb4. It has an InnerException again: Exception has been thrown by the target of an invocation. Which again has an InnerException: The IDbCommand and IDbConnection implementation in the assembly System.Data.SQLite could not be found. Ensure that the assembly System.Data.SQLite is located in the application directory or in the Global Assembly Cache. If the assembly is in the GAC, use element in the application configuration file to specify the full name of the assembly. Now - to me it sounds like it doesn't find System.Data.SQLite.dll, but I can't understand this. Everywhere this is referenced I have "Copy Local", and I have verified that it is in every build folder for projects using SQLite. I have also copied it manually to every Debug folder of the solution - without luck. Notes: This is exactly the same code that worked just fine before I upgraded to .Net4. I did see some x64 x86 mismatch problems earlier, but I have switched to use x86 as the target platform and for all referenced dlls. I have verified that all files in the Debug-folder are x86. I have tried the precompiled Fluent dlls, I have tried compiling myself, and I have compiled my own version of Fluent using .Net4. I see that there are also others that have seen this problem, but I haven't really seen any solution yet. After @devio's answer I tried adding a reference to the SQLite dll. This didn't change anything, but I hope I made it right though.. • Dice face value recognition

  I’m trying to build a simple application that will recognize the values of two 6-sided dice. I’m looking for some general pointers, or maybe even an open source project. The two dice will be black and white, with white and black pips respectively. Their distance to the camera will always be the same, but their position on the playing surface will be random. (not the best example, the surface will be a different color and the shadows will be gone) I have no prior experience with developing this kind of recognition software, but I would assume the trick is to first isolate the faces by searching for the square profile with a dominating white or black color (the rest of the image, i.e. the table/playing surface, will in distinctly different colors), and then isolate the pips for the count. Shadows will be eliminated by top down lighting. I’m hoping the described scenario is so simple (read: common) it may even be used as an “introductory exercise” for developers working on OCR technologies or similar computer vision challenges.

  I want to set a DateTime property to previous day at 00:00:00. I don't know why DateTime.AddDays(-1) isn't working. Or why DateTime.AddTicks(-1) isn't working. First should this work? I have 2 objects. Each object have DateTime fields ValidFrom, ValidTo. First i save an object with ValidTo using the application setting MaxDate (SQL-server maxdate 9999-12-12). Then when I save a new object and that object ValidFrom is within the first objects ValidFrom - ValidTo timespan I want to change first objects ValidTo datetime to previous day of new objects ValidTo datetime.

  In System.Windows.Forms there are a PropertyGrid that displays properties of an attached object. Let's say MyTextBox : TextBox. Now, I would like to display on it some MyTextBox properties, say only Size, Location and my custom property Date. More that than, I would like to be able to change the real property names, say "Dimension", "Location" and "Starting Date". I saw two projects on this subject : first and second, but first does not work well(for browsable properties), and the second seems to add an event for each property changes, this is not acceptable.

• Why am I getting null object reference error when saving (OnItemUpdating event) the first edit item

  I'm getting the error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when trying to reference a HiddenField (lvEditProjectSteps_hdnStepStatusId for future reference) from the EditItem during the OnItemUpdating event after the Update event fires in a ListView. This only occurs on the FIRST item in the ListView. I checked the source and the HTML is being rendered properly. ANY insight is appreciated! Thanks in advance... • Button control subclass: click event does not fire when using UpdatePanel

  Using suggestions from this thread, I created a ModernButton control that uses the HTML button tag instead of input. This control works great except when embedded within an UpdatePanel control. In this case, it does trigger the partial postback, but its click event does not fire. • Custom XML Serialization, how to write custom root element?

  I'm probably just doing this wrong, i know. i'm using custom serialization and when the xml is generated it's putting the class name as the root element Example: <MyClassName> <MyIntendedRootNode> <ObjectType> <Property1/> <Property2/> ... I'm inoking the serialization by calling xmlserializer.Serialize(writer,Me) so i'm sure that has something to do with it. I've tried putting XMLRoot onto the class, but i think as vb is compiling this partial class with it's aspx page, it's either overwriting this property or ignoring it entirely. ideally i'd like to just tell it to either throw away everything it has and use a different root element. Anybody else do this except me? Thanks

• Update panel and usercontrols

  I have two web user controls nested inside of an update panel. The events inside the user controls do not appear to trigger the panel. For testing, I have set the method the fires to sleep for 3 seconds, and added an update progress panel to the page. The update progress panel never comes up and the page reflashes as usual. The user controls work correctly and do what they need to do, but I would like to make them ajaxy and pretty.   How would I go about doing this programatically? I am dynamically creating this grid based on the data, so I'm already added columns with one set of controls. But now I need to figure out how to show multiple images, which expand/contract if the groupImg image control is clicked (i just toggle the ul) .. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

• Stack Trace in error in Webpage in ASP not in my code?

  I'm new to web-development in ASP, and I'm experiencing a problem where I try to access a certain page through a link and I get an error, the first part says it's an exception, then tips on debugging and then the stacktrace. What happens is that this code isn't on my application, I've had errors like this before, and the peace of code that appeared usually helped me a lot.

• Add Event Handler To Dynamic Dropdownlist

  Hi all! I have a page that contains dynamically generated Dropdown List controls and I want thant the dynamic dropdown list perform an AutoPostback to fill some other field using the value selected. This is the code I'm using to create dynamically the control: If (Not IsPostBack) Then Dim newDDL As DropDownList = New DropDownList() AddHandler newDDL.SelectedIndexChanged, AddressOf ChangeValue newDDL.ID = "Level1" [fill the DropDownList] newDDL.Items.Insert(results.Count, New ListItem("", -1)) newDDL.Width = "300" newDDL.AutoPostBack = True newDDL.SelectedIndex = results.Count LevelDDLs.Controls.Add(newDDL) LevelDDLs.Controls.Add(New LiteralControl("<br /><br />")) End If Control is correctly filled and rendered on ASP page but, after selecting a value, the page is reloaded (AutoPostBack is called) but the control is not diplayed and the sub is not called. I put a breakpoint into the ChangeValue sub but anything happens. I read on some post that handler for the first DropDownList is not necessary but, how is it possible to tell DropDownList to call my sub after changevalue? How can I create an additional user now that the table is in the web host? I can see that there's aspnet_Membership, aspnet_Applications, etc..etc

• Ninject InThreadScope Binding

  I have a Windows service that contains a file watcher that raises events when a file arrives. When an event is raised I will be using Ninject to create business layer objects that inside of them have a reference to an Entity Framework context which is also injected via Ninject. In my web applications I always used InRequestScope for the context, that way within one request all business layer objects work with the same Entity Framework context. In my current Windows service scenario, would it be sufficient to switch the Entity Framework context binding to a InThreadScope binding? In theory when an event handler in the service triggers it's executed under some thread, then if another file arrives simultaneously it will be executing under a different thread. Therefore both events will not be sharing an Entity Framework context, in essence just like two different http requests on the web. One thing that bothers me is the destruction of these thread scoped objects, when you look at the Ninject wiki: .InThreadScope() - One instance of the type will be created per thread. .InRequestScope() - One instance of the type will be created per web request, and will be destroyed when the request ends. Based on this I understand that InRequestScope objects will be destroyed (garbage collected?) when (or at some point after) the request ends. This says nothing however on how InThreadScope objects are destroyed. To get back to my example, when the file watcher event handler method is completed, the thread goes away (back to the thread pool?) what happens to the InThreadScope-d objects that were injected? EDIT: One thing is clear now, that when using InThreadScope() it will not destroy your object when the handler for the filewatcher exits. I was able to reproduce this by dropping many files in the folder and eventually I got the same thread id which resulted in the same exact Entity Framework context as before, so it's definitely not sufficient for my applications. In this case a file that came in 5 minutes later could be using a stale context that was assigned to the same thread before.

• Two-way data binding of controls in a user control inside a FormView

  I'm trying to perform two-way data binding on the controls in my user control, which is hosted inside a FormView template. FormView: <asp:ObjectDataSource runat="server" ID="ObjectDataSource" TypeName="WebApplication1.Data" SelectMethod="GetItem" UpdateMethod="UpdateItem"> </asp:ObjectDataSource> <asp:FormView runat="server" ID="FormView"> <ItemTemplate> <uc:WebUserControl1 runat="server"></uc:WebUserControl1> </ItemTemplate> <EditItemTemplate> <uc:WebUserControl1 runat="server"></uc:WebUserControl1> </EditItemTemplate> </asp:FormView> User control: <%@ Control Language="C#" ... %> <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="TitleTextBox" Text='<%# Bind("Title") %>'> </asp:TextBox> The binding works fine when the FormView is in View mode but when I switch to Edit mode, upon calling UpdateItem on the FormView, the bindings are lost. I know this because the FormView tries to call an update method on the ObjectDataSource that does not have an argument called 'Title'. I tried to solve this by implementing IBindableTemplate to load the controls that are inside my user control, directly into the templates (just like I had entered them declaratively like in the code above). However, when calling UpdateItem in edit mode, the container that gets passed into the ExtractValues method of the template, does not contain the TextBox anymore. It did in view mode! I have found some questions on SO that relate to this problem but they are rather dated and don't provide straight forward answers. How do you think I could solve this problem? It seems to be such a simple requirement but apparently it's more like opening a can of worms...

  I am attempting to construct my own date picker using code from several sources. Specifically, I am now populating the textbox with a calendar click. Two questions: Why does the first click refresh the page without doing anything?
