I don't see any built in mechanism for scheduling nightly backups in SQL Server 2005. What tools are available to perform this task and how reliable are they?
What do you use to search folders with 1000s of files. Surely not WinExplorer's default search and filter on Vista? If possible, something accessible from within the explorer shell. Else I'm open to any search tool that's consistent and allows me to perform actions on the search results (eg:open file, view file etc);
In order to perform realistic tests for a new backend server, I'd like to process all Apache requests twice.
So simply handle all the live requests with the old server, as it's done right now, but then also 'duplicate' the requests to a different virtual host, where the new backend is deployed, which will process the request and log the response.
What's the best / most simple way to achieve this in Apache? (the backend is a FastCGI process)
I'm wondering how I can configure ZSH to NOT expand the wildcard in a filename. So for example I have a directory of a couple hundred files named like so:
a.foo-bar a.foo b.foo-bar b.foo c.foo-bar c.foo
I would like to be able to perform a tab completion matching AFTER a wildcard, so
cat *.foo-< tab = cat *.foo-bar
instead what I get is
cat *.foo-< tab = cat a.foo-bar
file
a.foo-bar b.foo-bar c.foo-bar
This particular problem has little do with SubVersion Repositories and more to do with the management of installed programs. My question revolves around the problem of installing a program from source. If I where to build a distro with no package management system what possibilities would I have for maintaining the program is up to date. My only idea would be to keep a record of all the programs installed from source and perform a periodic check to identify if a new version is out.
Many phones has the functionality to listen to FM radio without connecting to the internet. Just wondering that how can I do this on a computer? Please give me some advices, thanks a lot.
Sorry guy I understand this question is not programming related. For a computer I mean a notebook which already has the wireless and Bluetooth, and these two combination shall be able for a notebook to perform this functionality.
Background
Add a constant value to numbers matched with a regular expression, using vim (gvim).
Problem
The following regular expression will match width="32":
/width="\([0-9]\{2\}\)"
Question
How do you replace the numeric value of the width attribute with the results from a mathematical expression that uses the attribute's value? For example, I would like to perform the following global replacement:
:%s/width="\([0-9]\{2\}\)"/width="\1+10"/g
That would produce width="42" for width="32" and width="105" for width="95".
Thank you!
I have time values entered in Excel as a custom number h:mm. I would like to convert these to a format (still displayed as h:mm) which will allow me to perform calculations using the data. Any ideas?
I am facing a company that have a fairly recent Microsoft Dynamics NAV (C/Side) setup that comes with a non-SQL storage system called the native database server. I would need to be remotely connect to this database, and perform what would equate to SQL queries with very modest needs (no join, no complex filtering).
I am rather ignorant of this technology, does someone knows to how make remote queries to this ERP?
It seems that Google Chrome doesn't keep my "allow all cookies" settings (dev 5.0.322.2) anymore.
Google's sites keep on showing:
Your browser's cookie functionality is turned off. Please turn it on. [?]
but every I perform the prescribed steps, Chrome doesn't keep the configuration!
update: I've deleted ~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Preferences and restarted with a clean state. Now it seems to work.
I have set the Mail app from Microsoft (WinRT) as the default application for mail in Default Programs. However, when I right-click on a file, and select Send to Mail recipient I get a message box saying:There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel.
Is there a way to get this action working with Mail?
I am used to doing Ctrl-Shift-Tab to cycle through tabs.
I do slowly pick up the niceness about using Cmd-Shift-[ or ] to do the same on the Mac.
I have currently set TextMate to take Ctrl-Shift-Tab to do the tab cycling, but I'd want the Ctrl-Shift-[ or ] in addition to that to perform tab cycling. Is this possible?
The reason I ask is because I see that Chrome can do it both ways (not through any configuration of my own of course).
I want to provide a remote employee remote desktop into a PC in the office and am trying to decide between the following two options:
Use Microsoft VPN to get him a local network IP. Use RDP to connect to host machine.
Use local SSH tunneling for VPN port. Connect RDP to localhost:portNumber
Is either option more secure than the other? Will either option perform better than the other? Are there any better options I've missed or considerations I should make?
When SQL Server builds a fulltext index computer resources are consumed (IO/Memory/CPU)
Similarly when you perform full text searches, resources are consumed.
How can I get a gauge over a 24 hour period of the exact amount of CPU and IO(reads/writes) that fulltext is responsible for, in relation to global SQL Server resource usage.
Are there any perfmon counters, DMVs or profiler traces I can use to help answer this question?
I'm constructing a backup script for Windows 7, and the last action I want it to perform is to safely "remove" the USB drive that it is backing up to. I am under the impression that plugging the drive into the SAME USB port all the time will keep the same DEV_ID, correct me if I'm wrong. With a Command Line (or PowerShell), how can I tell Windows to safely remove the hardware automatically without user input?
Just as a place holder, other OSes that may have a way to do this would be great to know as well
Has anybody had the chance to use either one of Z-Drive or Z-Drive R2? How do they perform? How fast can they boot Windows? How faster can the compile a big C/C++ or Java based project?
HI
We are looking to backup between 50-100 servers to a NAS box each night (Contains of each server ie files and folders).
We need the backup application to backup to a NAS and perform incremental backups following the full backup. We also need to be able to store versions of each file. The full backup will probably be about 5TB.
Does anyone know a a cheap or free application which will do this?
Thanks
Is it possible using Cacti to have it give you a list of machines that meet a certain criteria? For example, what are the machines that have had an average cpu load over 50% during the past week? What machines have 5% free disk space? etc. etc.
I haven't been able to find any suitable plugins, does anyone know of anything that can perform this task?
I purchased a copy of Adobe Premier Elements with my computer earlier this year and haven't spent more than a few minutes working with it since. I want to perform some basic editing of home videos but always feel somewhat lost when using Elements. Does anyone know of any good video tutorials?
Thanks!
how can I access a GRAPHICAL login screen (like on earlier Windows versions, or like VNC) instead of the Username/Password prompt via RDP?
I'm asking because we have several servers where we have no passwords but the shutdown/reboot option is given via group policy on the login screen. Thus, instead of having to go the hardware console I'd like to be able to perform reboot/shutdown actions via terminal services.

Marki
Specifically, I have an Ubuntu 10.04 system with a headless Ubuntu 12.04 virtual machine, and I'm looking for a way to have it set up so pressing ctrl+alt+F8 will take me into another X client which is connected to an X server on the vm (with gdm appropriately displayed at startup, etc.). As in, my startup script should spin up the headless machine and then immediately perform a "startx" pointed at the vm.
I have Windows XP 32-bit installed on this computer. I just purchased a Windows 7 64-bit as an ISO download upgrade version which I promptly burned to DVD and attempted to perform an upgrade installation. Here is the error message I am getting:
Firstly, where are these "Setup log files" located?
Second, does this mean I need to find compatible (64-bit?) drivers for the Mainboard and put them on floppy?
I know I have to count how many instances are running:
ps x | grep apache2 | wc -l
result if it's running: 2, or else: 1
I also know there is a command called test that I could use to perform the verification, but I don't know how to use test with wc
This is my step by step process on a Dell Inspiron 6000 with a brand new 320 HD:
Turn on Laptop
Insert Xubuntu 9.1 disc
Boot to CD-rom
After boot has finished, I install and instance of Xubuntu on the machine
After install (without any errors), I reboot the the machine
On reboot, the BIOS claims to be unable to read from device
What could this be? (Feel free to ask for more information to perform a proper diagnosis)
