  • What is the different purpose of .H header file and a IDL file?

    - by smwikipedia
I am studying COM so there're some basic questions puzzling me... I know that IDL file is used to describe the method definitions (or the so called 'contract' between software modules), and the .H header files contains something like a method prototype, which looks similar to what the IDL is meant for. So, why are these two things coexist? Isn't one enough? Many thanks.

  • One class per file rule in .NET?

    - by Joan Venge
I follow this rule but some of my colleagues disagree with it and argue that if a class is smaller it can be left in the same file with other class(es). Another argument I hear all the time is "Even Microsoft don't do this, so why should we?" What's the general consensus on this? Are there cases where this should be avoided?

  • counting paragraphs in text file

    - by robjez
    I need to create perl code which allows counting paragraphs in text files. I tried this and doesn't work: open(READFILE, "<$filename") or die "could not open file \"$filename\":$!"; $paragraphs = 0; my($c); while($c = getc(READFILE)) { if($C ne"\n") { $paragraphs++; } } close(READFILE); print("Paragraphs: $paragraphs\n");

  • Place Eclipse Project File in Separate Directory

    - by Eddie Ringle
I'm using a default Eclipse project file generated for my Android application, and I want to keep it in a targets/ directory (along with other eclipse-specific files) in order to better organize my project structure (I also plan on adding a target for NetBeans). Simple question, I suppose: Is this possible?

  • Take data from an XML file and put it into a MySQL database

    - by Aidan
Hi Guys, I'm looking to construct a script that would go through an XML file. Would find specific tags in it, put them in a table and fill the table with specific tags within them. I'm using MySQL 5.1 so loadXML isn't an option and I think that ExtractData() method wont be much use either.. but I don't really know. What would be the best way to go about this?

  • What is a good FAT file system for ARM7-TDMI

    - by Seidleroni
I'm using the ARM7TDMI-S (NXP processor) and I need a file system capable of reading/writing to an SD card. There are so many available, what have people used and been happy with? One that requires the least amount of setup is best - so the less I have to do to get it started (i.e. write device drivers to NXP's hardware) the better.

Hello. I am making my own crude MP3 player, and I now have a JList with which I have populated a number of files in the form of MP3 objects (displayed on frame using DefaultListModel). I would now like to have the oppurtunity to save this JList to a file on disk. How would I go about doing this? I'm very new with programming and Java, so help is greatly appreciated.

  • Rails 3 Initializers: No such file to load

    - by waveslider
I am trying to use the Sunlight API gem with a Rails project. I have installed the gem and can successfully use it from irb. However, when I put the require statement (require 'sunlight') in sunlight.rb in config/initializers, I get the following error: /opt/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/activesupport-3.0.0.beta3/lib/active_support/dependencies.rb:209:in `require': no such file to load -- sunlight (LoadError) I checked the permissions on the gems directory, and it is world readable/executable. Here is the code from sunlight.rb: require 'rubygems' require 'sunlight' Sunlight::Base.api_key = 'bb7b775755054c54aa9715d202f6785c'
