• Is it possible to redirect non-HTML files with HTTP? And chaining redirects?

  Hello, I have been thinking about a neat way of load balancing and one thing that would be required is to be capable of loading an image on an HTML page from multiple locations without rewriting the URL(on each load) So what I need to be able to do is have one URL which is the "static" URL. Such as http://example.com/myimage.png The image is not actually contained in example.com though. So example.com does a either a 302 or 301 or 307 HTTP response to cause a redirect to 2.example.com. How do browsers handle this with images like in this situation? Also, how do browsers handle multiple redirections for instance if 2.example.com also didn't contain it and it went to 3.example.com ? (Note, I am asking this because I've never seen a 301 redirect on anything but an HTML page) Also, which status code would be best to use. 301 means "moved permanently" which this "move" isn't permanent so I don't want it cached. Should I use 307? Is that supported by search engines and modern browsers?

• Can I avoid explicitly casting objects with a common subclass?

  I have an iPodLibraryGroup object and Artist and Album both inherit from it. When it comes to my view controllers though I find that I'm duplicate lots of code, for example I have an ArtistListViewController and and AlbumListViewController even though they're both doing basically the same thing. The reason I've ended up duplicating the code is because these view controllers each refer to either an Artist object or al Album object and I'm not sure how to set it up so that one view controller could handle both — these view controllers are mainly accessing methods that that the objects have in common from iPodLibraryGroup. As an example, to hopefully make this clearer consider this code in AlbumListViewController: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { Album *album = nil; album = [self albumForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath inTableView:tableView]; … if (!album.thumbnail) { [self startThumbnailDownload:album forIndexPath:indexPath inTableView:tableView]; cell.imageView.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"Placeholder.png"]; } else { cell.imageView.image = album.thumbnail; } return cell; } This is essentially completely repeated (along with a hell of a lot more repeated code) in ArtistListViewController just so that I can typecast the local variable as an Artist instead of an Album. Is there a way to not explicitly need to set Artist or Album here so that the same code could work for any object that is a child of iPodLibraryGroup?

• Silverlight: How can I built an overview display block for any XAML?

  Hi all, I am trying to create a generic "overview" control for any XAML. A good example of the desired effect would be on Google Maps or Bing maps: The main map zooms into some content, while a small "overview" block is docked to one of the map corners, showing the user where he/she is zoomed into. My content is all placed inside a <Canvas>, which can then be scaled and zoomed with transforms. While the user does this kind of navigation, I would like to give them a visual indication of where they are in the larger context of the content. I have tried to take a 'screenshot' of the XAML before the user starts navigating, i.e. create a WriteableBitmap wbImageData = new WriteableBitmap(TheCanvas, null); and then displaying it in an Image. Based on the user's scrolling and zooming activity, a Rectangle displays which part of the content is currently visible in the display area. This works OK-ish (still clunky), but the image has to be redone everytime the content changes. Is there a simple way to create this kind of preview, or does anyone know of a component that does it? Thanks!

  this one puzzles me. I have an Image with a width of 1600 pixels and height of 1819 pixels. But this time the result is Frame - width 405.000000, height 411.000000 - Bounds - width 1601.510864, height 1625.236938 Content size width 404.617920, height 460.000000 Why is the frame size suddely 405 by 411 pixels? How can the Bounds be 1601 by 1625 where 1625 is roughly 200 pixels less than the original size? When Positioning a further UIImageView at the coordinates of 20 by 1625, the UIImageView is displayed an estimated 200 pixels above the bottom of the content of the UIScrollView. I'm lost ...

• Drawing graphics on top of a JButton

  I have a situation wherein I have a bunch of JButtons on a GridLayout. I need each of the JButtons to have: a background image (but retain the ability to keep the default button look if needed) custom graphics drawn on top by other classes I have no trouble with the background image, since I am using setIcon() but I am having problems drawing things on top of the background. At one point I was able to draw on top of the button, but after the button was clicked, the drawings disappeared. How can make the button keep this drawing state? Basically, I need a way for my JButtons to have public methods that would allow another class to draw anything on it such as: public void drawSomething() { Graphics g = this.getGraphics(); g.drawOval(3,2,2,2); repaint(); } or public Graphics getGraphics() { return this.getGraphics(); } then another class could do this: button.getGraphics().drawSomething(); The latter is more what I am looking for but the first is equally useful. Is there any way to go about this? Also, overriding the parent class method paintComponent() doesn't help since I need each button to have different graphics.

• Interactive World Map, highlight countries on mouseover

  I need to create an interactive world map on the front page of a site, the view portal will be about 650x200 pixels. The interactivity would include the following, mouse-over a country would highlight (the countries are will literally be filled with "red" for example) that country and display the countries' name (preferably text in a div), I will also be linking the highlighting event with a that will highlight a country when selected. I am having a difficult time finding a suitable solution, I refuse to use or learn a proprietry technology such as flash so it is not an option. I created a simple mockup using openlayers and a custom map image but the countries' markers load too slowly in IE6. Also svg seems too large, as I tried to use RaphaelJS, but abondoned it when I realised the world map data is 1.2mb which is totally un acceptable for the front page of a site.. I am really at a loss on how I am going to do this, my last resort is to manually create 250+ (however many countries there are) pngs and apply mouseover events to hotspots in the image... but this is probably going to be a dead end too.. desperately seeking a solution, any helpful comments will be appreciated!

• Loading specific icon size into TIcon from stream (Delphi XE)

  My application downloads and displays favicons for specific websites. I followed Bing's solution for detecting image format from stream, but have hit another snag. Assuming an actual icon image, the code goes like this: var icon : TIcon; begin icon := TIcon.Create; try icon.LoadFromStream( faviconStream ); spFavicon.Glyph.Assign( icon ); finally icon.Free; end; end; (spFavicon is TRzGlyphStatus from Raize Components. Its Glyph property is a TBitmap) Now, this works, but sometimes the downloaded icon contains multiple images in different sizes, e.g. 32x32 in addition to the expected 16x16. For some reason the control's Glyph property picks the larger size. How can I load only the 16x16 size into TIcon, or from TIcon into TBitmap? • Jquery selectors question

  Hi all, I am not an expert at jquery but trying to get a menu to work. Basically, I have a menu made of up to 3 levels of nested lists. The first level has a little arrow has a background image that opens or close when opening the first level list. Any other nested lists don't need to have the background image. My script opens the menu when you click on it and is also supposed to switch the first level list from a class "inactive" to a class "active". Here is the script: $(document).ready(function(){ $("#left-navigation-holder ul.level1 li.inactive").toggle(function(){ $(this).addClass("active"); }, function () { $(this).removeClass("active"); }); $("#left-navigation-holder li a").click(function(){ menu = $(this).parent('li').children('ul'); menu.toggle(); }); }); The problem is that the toggle function also happens when clicking on second and third level lists causing the arrows to toggle even if the first level list isn't clicked on. I thought using $("#left-navigation-holder ul.level1 li.inactive").toggle would limit the function to the first level list with a class "inactive". Any help would be really appreciated. Ben

  Hello all. Just trying to get the hang of using the semantically correct XHTML markup. Just writing the code for a small navigation item. Where each button has effectivly a title and a descrption. I thought a definition list would therefore be great so i wrote the following <dl> <dt>Import images</dt> <dd>Read in new image names to database</dd> <dt>Exhibition Management</dt> <dd>Create / Delete an exhibition </dd> <dt>Image Management</dt> <dd>Edit name, medium and exhibition data </dd> </dl> But...I want the above to be 3 buttons, each button containing the dt and dd text. How can i do this with the correct code? Normally i would make each button a div and use that for the visual button behaviour (onHover and current page selection stuff). Any advice please Thanks

  I take a picture with the camera using Intent intent = new Intent(android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE ); startActivityForResult( intent, 22 ); When the activity completes, I write the bitmap picture out to a PNG file. java.io.FileOutputStream out = openFileOutput("myfile.png", Context.MODE_PRIVATE); bmp.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.PNG, 90, out); That goes OK, and I can see the file is created in my app private data space. I'm having difficulty when I later want to display that image using an ImageView. Can anyone suggest code to do this? If I try to create a File with path separators in, it fails. If I try to create a Uri from a name without separators, that fails. I can open the file OK using: java.io.FileInputStream in = openFileInput("myfile.png"); But that doesn't give me the Uri I need to set an image with iv.setImageURI(u) Summary: I have the picture in a png file in private app data. What's the code to set that into an ImageView? Thanks.

• IE7: container of hidden Div displays incorrectly

  There is a search box div that contains a boxhead div and a boxbody div. Inside the boxbody div, there is a searchToggle div. When the user clicks a certain link on the page, the display style property of the searchToggle div is toggled between block and none. The 2 background-images for the body of the search box are set via the css of the searchBox div and the boxbody div. In IE7, when the searchToggle div is hidden, the background-image from the searchBox div extends on the left more than it should. It shows up correctly when the display of the searchToggle div is block. Everything show up correctly, in both cases in IE8 and FF. Any ideas why this is happening?   It's a really simple problem. I've got HTML code like this : <div> <img src="image1.jpg" alt="test1" /> </div> <div> <img src="image2.jpg" alt="test2" /> </div> <div> <img src="image3.jpg" alt="test3" /> </div> etc... The data is comming from a DB (image name, alt text). In JAVA, I would do something like : save the info in array in the back end. For the presentation I would loop through it with JSTL : <c:foeach items="${data}" var="${item}> <div> <img src="${item.image}" alt="${item.alt}" /> </div> </c:foreach> What's the best practice in ASP.net I just don't want to create a string with HTML code in it in the "code behind", it's ugly IMO.

• Move files from ftp server to s3

  I would like to set up an ftp server, where users will upload files, and for each file, put it on s3 storage, and delete it from the ftp server. (the server runs on ec2 ubuntu) Here are the stuff I already tried, with no success.. Mount s3 bucket using s3fs. I followed those instructions, but there is a bug in the latest version of s3fs, that prevents it from working. The bug was fixed on the develop branch, but I don't want to use unstable version on my production. Use vsftpd and using s3cmd sync via cron to sync the files periodically. The problem with that approach, is that s3cmd can start running in the middle of a file upload, and start synching the incomplete file. Also s3cmd doesn't give any feedback it the sync fails, so I have no way of knowing if I can delete the files after the sync command finished running. Use pure-ftpd's upload script feature (which allows to run a script after a file is finished uploading), but I noticed that if the file upload was failed in the middle, the script will run anyway, and I have no way of knowing if the upload was successful or not. I've been at it for a few days now, and I'm at a loss here. Any suggestions will be welcomed.

  I'm trying to upload a picture to a specific website using php cURL but I don't really understand what parameters do I need to send because the data looks a bit weird . Here is what i got with the http analyzer Type : multipart/form-data; boundary=---------------------------182983931283 -----------------------------182983931283 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="file"; filename="Blue hills.jpg" Content-Type: image/jpeg Here appears the souce of the image itself like "ÿØÿàÿØÿàÿØÿàÿØÿàÿØÿàÿØÿà" -----------------------------182983931283 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="action" images -----------------------------182983931283 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="anonymous_email" Y -----------------------------182983931283 Content-Disposition: form-data; name="site_id" 1 -----------------------------182983931283 and so on other parameters. The issue that I have is that I don't understand what is the boundary, where do I get it from (because it doesn't appear in the html document that generates the POST and how should I make the post . If you would give me a simple example to post the above parameters to http://example.com I will definitely get the trick .
