  • Java. Writing a matrix in a file using column information. ( matrix transposition )

    Hello, everybody! I have a file in which a matrix is stored. This file has a RandomAccessFile type. This matrix is stored by columns. I mean that in an i-th row of this matrix an i-th column (of a real matrix) is stored. There is an example: i-th row: 1 2 3 4 (in the file). That means that the real matrix has an i-th column: (1 2 3 4)(is transposed). I need to save this matrix in a natural way (by rows) in a new file, which I will then open with FileReader and display with TextArea. Do you know, how to do that? If so, please help =)

  • Can Silverlight be linked with a C++ static library ?

    Hi, I'm currently doing research to start a new project. This project will be in 2 parts a light Client (probably console) and an heavy one using silverlight. The light client must be cross-platform. However, they will both use the same Core (by the way, the core will need to use the sockets). I'd like to use C++ to build the light client but given that the core is common to both applications, it would be much appreciated if it's could be the same code. So the question is quite simple : Can Silverlight be compilated with a C++ static library ? And if it's possible, what about cross-platform issues (with moonlight) ? If it's not possible. Which language can i use to work with silverlight while being cross-platform ? Because of performance, a compilated language will be better ! Thanks for your expertise :)

  • Is there a way to launch an aggressive and complete garbage collection in Java?

    For memory optimization reasons, I'm launching myself the garbage collector during profiling, to check if objects are correctly cleaned after disposing of them. The call to garbage collector is not enough, though, and it seems that there is no guarantee of what it will clean. Is there a way to call it, to be sure it will recover as much as it can, in profiling conditions (this would have no point in production, of course)? Or is "calling it several times" the only way to be "almost sure"? Or did I simply misunderstand something about the Garbage Collector?

  • My java program seems to be skipping over the try{}, executing the catch{} and then throwing a NullPointerException. What should I do?

    I am writing a program that calculates the number of words, syllables, and sentences in any given text file. I don't need help finding those numbers, however my program (which currently should only find the number of words in the text file) will not import the text file even when I type in the name of the file correctly. The text file is in the same folder as the source code. Instead it tells me every time that what I typed in has the wrong file extension (see my catch{}) and then proceeds to throw a null pointer. I am at a loss for what could be causing it.   • How can two programs talk to each other in Java?

    I want to ?reduce? the CPU usage/ROM usage/RAM usage - generally?, all system resources that my app uses - who doesn't? :) For this reason I want to split the preferences window from the rest of the application, and let the preferences window to run as ?independent? program. The preferences program ?should? write to a Property file(not a problem at all) and to send a "update signal" to the main program - which means it should call the update method (that i wrote) that found in the Main class. How can I call the update method in the Main program from the preferences program? To put it another way, is a way to build preferences window that take system resources just when the window appears? Is this approach - of separating programs and let them talk to each other (somehow) - the right approach for speeding up my programs?

    i'm going to create a library that consists of a lot of separate classes. i'm very familiar with mvc but have never created a pure library before. i wonder where i should put the business logic? the logic that is in the controller in a mvc. should it be in a class? or in a "bootstrap" file? and should one file include every class, or should only one class include its classes it uses? thanks!

My problem is the panel doesn't scroll, I suppose it's because i didn't set a viewport, but how can I set it when I have to many components?     I recall seeing, somewhere, an example that stepped through String args[] by deleting the lowest numbered value(s) public static void main( String args[]) { while (args.length > 0 ) { // do something and obliterate elements from args[] } } Obviously, a variable tracking current position in args and compared to args.length will do it; or an ArrayList made from args[]'s contents, with argsAL.size(). Am I mis-remembering an ArrayList example? I know this is a borderline question, the likely answer is, "No, there isn't and there shouldn't be either!". Maybe I'm over-focused... Bill

It would be streaming in the sense that it would be very lazy and not read things in until needed. It would also be streaming in the sense that it would read everything forwards (but not backwards).   • Selenium : Handling Loading screens obscuring the web elements. (Java)

    I'm writing an automated test case for a web page. Here's my scenario. I have to click and type on various web elements in an html form. But, sometimes while typing on a text field, an ajax loading image appears , fogging all elements i want to interact with. So, I'm using web-driver wait before clicking on the actual elements like below, WebdriverWait innerwait=new WebDriverWait(driver,30); innerwait.until(ExpectedConditions.elementToBeClickable(By.xpath(fieldID))); driver.findelement(By.xpath(fieldID)).click(); But the wait function returns the element even if it is fogged by another image and is not clickable. But the click() throws an exception as Element is not clickable at point (586.5, 278). Other element would receive the click: <div>Loading image</div> Do I have to check every time if the loading image appeared before interacting with any elements?.(I can't predict when the loading image will appear and fog all elements.) Is there any efficient way to handle this?     I'm making a data prosessing system, which currently is using csv-data as input and output form. In the future I might want to add support for example database-, xml-, etc. typed input and output forms. How should I desing my program so that it would be easy to add support for new type of data sources? Should simply make for example an abstract data class (which would contain the basic file prosessing methods) and then inherit this class for database, xml, etc. cases? Hope my question is clear =) In other words my question is: "How to desing a file prosessing system, which can be easily updated to accept input data from different sources (database, XML, Excel, etc.)".

U SharedResource::getSharedResourceKey(char const*, int) ... which are the exported functions? I already found a hint in this post, that the "T" indicates that its getting exported. But if i check the nm manual here, it just says T - The symbol is in the text (code) section. My questions is: Does this output give me the information which functions are exported functions (or variables)? If not, how do i get it? Greetings, Pingu
