• Typical Hadoop setup for remote job submission

  So I am still a bit new to hadoop and am currently in the process of setting up a small test cluster on Amazonaws. So my question relates to some tips on the structuring of the cluster so it is possible to work submit jobs from remote machines. Currently I have 5 machines. 4 are basically the Hadoop cluster with the NameNodes, Yarn etc. One machine is used as a manager machine( Cloudera Manager). I am gonna describe my thinking process on the setup and if anyone can chime in the points I am not clear with, that would be great. I was thinking what was the best setup for a small cluster. So I decided to expose only one manager machine and probably use that to submit all the jobs through it. The other machines will see each other etc, but not be accessible from the outside world. I am have conceptual idea on how to do this,but I am not sure how to properly go about doing this though, if anyone could point me in the right direction that would great. Also another big point is, I want to be able to submit jobs to the cluster through exposed machine from a client machine (might be Windows). I am not so clear on this setup as well. Do I need to have Hadoop installed on the machine in order to use the normal hadoop commands, and to write/submit jobs say from Eclipse or something similar. So to sum it up my questions are, Is this an ok setup for a small test cluster How can I go about using one exposed machine to submit/route jobs to the cluster, without having any of the Hadoop nodes on it. How do I setup a client machine to submit jobs to a remote cluster, and an example on how to do it on Windows. Also if there are any reason not to use Windows as a client machine in this setup. Thanks I would greatly appreciate any advice or help on this.

• Unable to access MySQL from MyPHPAdmin after setting root password in EasyPHP{WAMP}

  Am a new starter with WAMP and trying to play around my way using the EasyPHP setup. After successful setup on intial launch of MySQL, the page prompted me to set up ROOT password for security reasons. On setting the password, am no longer able to access MySQL. The error is : Error MySQL said: Documentation 1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) Looked up on the net and tried the following options in the config.inc.php from the phpmyadmin foler: 1] Set the authetication to "http" so that it prompts to enter the username and password /* Authentication type */ $cfg['Servers'][$i]['auth_type'] = 'http'; 2] Set up the correct password in the config file $cfg['Servers'][$i]['password'] = 'myPwd'; None of them worked. Can anyone suggest a workaround to access MySQL? Am not fussed about not being able to use the root account but would like to CRUD on the database using other username. Thanks in advance.

  I want to enable form based authentication by using database as realm but I'm always getting that message whenever I try to authenticate as Tomcat manager in Tomcat 6. I have already created a table user_name and user_roles and mapped the username(blue) to admin and manager as role in user_roles table in mysql, but still I'm unable to authenticate and enable form based authentication. I've alreay recreated realm tag in server.xml file: <Realm className="org.apache.catalina.realm.JDBCRealm" debug="99" driverName="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver" connectionURL="jdbc:mysql://localhost:3306/mail" connectionName="root" userTable="users" userNameCol="user_name" userCredCol="user_pass" userRoleTable="user_roles" roleNameCol="role_name" /> Could anyone please tell me what's wrong I'm doing?

  I´m running a problem where in one machine the code works and another don´t. Apparently we´re using the same Devart dotConnect for Oracle version (6.80.325.0). • Cannot access MOSS site from within MOSS server

  I am trying to access my MOSS site through the browser on the web server itself. I am using the same URL that is used for external access to the site. When I hit it from outside the server, I can see most of the site, which has anonymous access, and can use a domain account to get into secure areas. When I hit it from within the server, I get prompted for a password, but no matter what I enter it seems to reject it and just presents another password dialog. Has anyone seen anything like this?

  I'm wondering if it's possible to access page JavaScript variables with Selenium. I have an application that's using a variable attached to the window object. It has a global scope and I can access it either with window._myvar, window['_myvar'], _myvar, this['_myvar'], this._myvar depending on the context. So I tried to get Selenium to echo it. As far as I understand, in Selenium IDE the context in which everything runs is selenium. I tried doing this.browserbot.getCurrentWindow()._myvar, this.browserbot.getCurrentWindow()[_myvar] to no avail. I get bumped with the following error Unexpected Exception: message -> eval(match[1]) is undefined. Anyone managed to access their page's JavaScript?

  I have previously installed WAMP on my windows, and now I am trying to install Zend Server 5 CE 5.3.1 Win x86. During the installation of Zend Server, there is a step asking about: web server port : 80 zend server interface port : 10081 I kept to the default. After the installation, I tried to access http://localhost,and is able to see zend test page. But I am unable to access http://localhost:10081/ZendServer, it was stated as page not found. Is it a conflict of my WAMP and the Zend Server? I remembered stopping the apache for WAMP, before trying to access ZS. Could anyone please advise me how to fix it? Thank you.

But in the lifetime of .NET I have to admit I've never actually had a situation where CAS has actually blocked something to my benefit. I have, however, had many times where something as simple as sharing a quick .NET application across a mapped drive becomes an enterprise code access nightmare. Having to break out caspol.exe to create trusted path rules and having no clear way of knowing why something failed makes it seem like CAS adds way more frustration to the development and deployment process than it offers in security. I'd like to hear either some situations where CAS has actually helped more than hurt, or if there are other people out there frustrated with its current implementation and defaults.

• Why are access modifiers on web service proxy methods important

  I'm creating interface to an external web service with C# client generated from WSDL. And in this client class I have methods with signature like: public ResponseType InvokeMethod(RequestType request). I want to change its access modifier to protected, but then web service responds with "web service method name is not valid" exception. Do You know why is that so? I understand that maintaining method name can be important for some reasons, but why can't I change this access modifier? Shouldn't it be a matter of my code what access I want to give to this method? Thanks for all the answers in advance.

• Cannot Access Rails Server From Outside LAN

  Hello All This is my first post here. I have a rails server I'm running on a dedicated server that I have jail shell access to. I can start up a rails server and access it just fine using the text-based browser elinks running in that jail shell using both internal and public IP's. However, I cannot access the rails server from outside that chrooted environment. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

• AD-Integrated DNS failure: "Access was Denied"

  I have a single Windows 2008 R2 server configured as a domain controller with Active Directory Domain Services and DNS Server. The DNS Server was recently uninstalled and reinstalled in an attempt to fix a (possibly unrelated) problem; the event log was previously flooded with errors (#4000, "The DNS Server was unable to open Active Directory...") which reinstalling did not fix. However, while before it was at least showing and resolving names from the local network (slowly), now it's showing nothing at all. (The original error started with a #4015 error "The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory," followed by a long string of #4000 and a few #4004. This may have been caused when a new DNS name was recently added, but I can't be sure of the timing.) Attempting to manage the DNS through Administrative Tools > DNS brings up an error: The server SERVERNAME could not be contacted. The error was: Access was denied. Would you like to add it anyway? Selecting yes just puts a SERVERNAME item on the list, but with all the configuration options grayed out. I attempted editing my hosts file as per this post but to no avail. Running dcdiag, it does identify the home server properly, but fails right away testing connectivity with: Starting test: Connectivity The host blahblahblahyaddayaddayadda could not be resolved to an IP address. Check the DNS server, DHCP, server name, etc. Got error while checking LDAP and RPC connectivity. Please check your firewall settings. ......................... SERVERNAME failed test Connectivity Adding the blahblahblahyaddayaddayadda address to hosts (pointing at 127.0.0.1), the connectivity test succeeded but it didn't seem to solve the fundamental problem (Access was denied) so I hashed it out again. Primary DNS server is properly pointing at 127.0.0.1 according to ipconfig /all. And the DNS server is forwarding requests to external addresses properly (if slowly), but the resolving of local network names is borked. The DNS database itself is small enough that I am (grudgingly) able to rebuild it if need be, but the DNS Server doesn't seem willing to let me work with (or around) it at all. (and yes before you ask there are no system backups available) Where do I go from here?   This might be simple but I am new to Oracle. I am using Oracle 10g and have a form that lists our information from a linked table in a tabular Layout. The last column of data is a "list Item" item type that has the Element list of Enabled (T) and Disabled (F). What I need is when a user changes this dropdown, to disabled, I want ONLY that row to have some of the columns be disabled and not the entire column. This is also assuming on load of the form, it will disable and enable rows of data depending on what values are being pulled from the EnabledDisabled column in the database. Thanks for the help!

  I was trying to run my application and check for some output on the production.log. However Rails throws this error. Apache log Rails Error: Unable to access log file. Please ensure that /var/www/somefolder/someapp/log/production.log exists and is chmod 0666. The log level has been raised to WARN and the output directed to STDERR until the problem is fixed. I have performed the necessary chmod 666 production.log to make it work but I realized that the file is under root access. So my file permissions are -rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 20845 2010-03-18 01:18 production.log Im not sure how to allow Rails to access this file. Im fairly new to managing linux production env so I request you to excuse my ignorance.

• Oracle Schema Design: Seperate Schema with I/O Overhead?

  We are designing database schema for a new system based on Oracle 11gR1. We have identified a main schema which would have close to 100 tables, these will be accessed from the front end Java application. We have a requirement to audit the values which got changed in close to 50 tables, this has to be done every row. Which means, it is possible that, for a single row in MYSYS.T1 there might be 50 (or more) rows in MYSYS_AUDIT.T1_AUD table. We might be having old values of every column entry and new values available from T1. DBA gave an observation, advising against this method, because he said, separate schema meant an extra I/O for every operation. Basically AUDIT schema would be used only to do some analyse and enter values (thus SELECT and INSERT). Is it true that, "a separate schema means an extra I/O" ? I could not find justification. It appears logical to me, as the AUDIT data should not be tampered with, so a separate schema. Also, we designed a separate schema for archiving some tables from MYSYS. From MYSYS_ARC the table might be backed up into tapes or deleted after sufficient time. Few stats: Few tables (close to 20, 30) in MYSYS schema could grow to around 50M rows. We have asked for a total disk space of 4 TB. MYSYS_AUDIT schema might be having 10 times that of MYSYS but we wont keep them more than 3 months. Questions Given all these, can you suggest me any improvements? Separate schema affects disc I/O? (one extra I/O for every schema ?) Any general suggestions? I have never worked on linux and dont plan on working on it either - The only command I probably know is "ls" :) I am hosting my website on Eapps and use their cpanel to setup everything so never worked with linux. Now I have this one time case - where I need to provide access to a contractor to fix the CSS issues on my website. He basically needs FTP (read/write) access to certain folders. At a high level - this is my code structure /home/webadmin/example.com/html/images /css /js /login.php /facebook.php /home/webadmin/example.com/application/library /views /models /controllers /config /bootstrap.php /home/webadmin/example.com/cgi-bin I want the new user to be able to have access to only these folders /home/webadmin/example.com/html/js /home/webadmin/example.com/html/css /home/webadmin/example.com/application/views He should not be able to view even the content of other folders including files like bootstrap.php or login.php etc If any sys admins can help me set this account up - will really appreciate it.   Well, I have a really small problem. How can I access an ASP.NET Drop down list from jquery? I tried to use "CssClass" property of the drop down list to assign a CSS class and then accessing that list using that class, but later I found out that the class changes when an element is selected, so my initial class replaced by a new class. I also cannot use the "ClientID" property because the part of code that access that list is not inside the page, but in a separate javascript file. So how can I access it ?
