  • European alternatives to Dropbox?

    - by torbengb
Dropbox is positively brilliant, but the data center is probably in the US somewhere. Since I'm in Europe, there's plenty of lag and a poor upload rate. Are there any similar services using data centers in Europe? I'm looking for a free plan (cirka 2GB), so sites like Amazon S3 aren't good answers.

  • Solution for secure online remote presentation?

    - by Greg Joshner
Hello, what is your (subscription free) solution to share a presentation with a number of users (below 50) that works without plug-ins in a browser and allows the presentation to be centrally controlled (and thus prevents participating users from "flipping forward")? I won't need print, save as or offline features, just showing and controlling a presentation centrally. Thanks a lot for your help!

  • Monitor total service uptime using Icinga

    - by dhh
I am using Icinga (Nagios fork) for monitoring ~10 webservers, each one providing different services. I would now like to provide an aggregated view on the server states on our companies intranet, providing information like: server | state | last downtime | Ø uptime (month) | Ø uptime (year) Srv1 | OK | 2013-10-09 | 99,5% | 99,8 % Srv2 | ERROR | 2013-10-31 | 73,1% | 85,4 % Is there a possibility to get those values from icinga?

  • Workgroup/Domain for a DLP software

    - by Rohit
A client has inquired me for a DLP software to lock USB and CD Drives. I contacted few companies and the DLP tool needs a Domain from where the software can control the nodes. The client says that they have 55 machines in a WorkGroup and also has 1 server. I am not following what exactly is a WorkGroup and a Domain. The DLP tool specifications say that the network must have a Domain and Active Directory Services.

  • Dual external internet connections

    - by cpf
Hi ServerFault, We have here 2 Internet connections coming in. And the intention is to have all services available on our server which should be available externally, to be available through both connections. Also, one connection should be used as few as possible, except for certain protocols. How can I achieve this dual connection method?

  • Why should I choose either PCL or PS when both are supported

    - by Goyuix
Obviously the answer depends to some degree on the various versions supported, but in general terms - is there any reason I should pick one over the other? PCL for art and PS for text? Does one typically require less RAM on the printer? Speed differences? For home use it doesn't matter and only professional print people will notice and care? • How to connect to memcached from another machine

    - by Oscar Del Ben
I'm trying to use memcached from a different machine (which has access to my server), but I can't figure out how. on the memcached machine I can test the connection by running telnet 127.0.0.1 port And it works, but on the other machine it just keeps trying to connect telnet machine_address port Trying machine_address... I'm not sure if I should set up something else to get it working. I know the port is working and accessible because if I try to run other services on it, they works. Os is ubuntu

  • Off-the-shelf solutions for migrating data from azure blobstorage to rackspace cloud files

    - by S.C.
I have large amounts of data (500+ GB) stored in azure blob storage that I need to transfer to rackspace cloud files. I know it is possible to perform such a migration using the SDKs from both services, but is there a free, standard, 1-step process for doing this? I've built a POC utility but would like to avoid having to optimize it to perform the transfer within a reasonable amount of time. Thanks.

  • Statically Display Excel drop-down boxes

    - by Chris Gunner
I'm looking to present an Excel questionnaire I have written to the board, via either paper or presentation slides. It uses a lot of drop-down boxes, and so I'm looking for any ideas on how one might go about showing the options for each response (from the drop-down boxes), without having to manually print screen a bunch of times and pasting the results into Visio. Has anyone come across a nie easy, fast method of doing this?

  • What does "Application Server" in Windows Server 2008 mean?

    - by In Sane
When seeing the Windows Server 2008 R2 edition comparision by Role, i noticed that there is an entry for Application Server separate from that of IIS. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/r2-compare-roles.aspx What is confusing me is that for Web edition, "Application Server" is not ticked but IIS is ticked. Isnt IIS both the web server and the application server in Windows? And if so, if i take the web edition, can i not host my business components (WCF services)on it because it is not an "Application Server" ?

  • Network and Server Management Tools

    - by jessieE
We are building a farm of test servers. Currently we have 8 servers. We are planning to use the servers to test the following Mysql Cluster Xen or KVM virtualization Heartbeat/Pacemaker/DRDB What tools do experienced sysads use for: Initial installation of operating system( installing centos 5 or ubuntu server manually 8 times seems like a tedious task that just begs for automation) Centralized Configuration Management and Software Updates for Host and possibly Guest(virtualized) servers Hardware, Services and Network Monitoring

  • Faster zlib alternatives

    - by BarsMonster
I wonder, if there are any faster builds of zlib around with more advanced optimizations? If it's possible to optimize it using SSE instructions or Intel C++ compiller, or some trick which were patented earlier (I know patents were a serious limitation during gzip/zlib development), have anyone bothered to implement that? I am especially interested in compression speed, which have a direct impact on high-performance web-services serving static & dynamic content.

  • Should I switch to Linux for development?

    - by Alex
Is there any advantage to use a Linux machine to develop instead of Windows? Everyone at work tells me to switch to Linux, since I'm developing hard-core on linux anyway. I manage 40 servers, and do everything from DB to data-backend to developing web services. I don't find anything wrong with Putty. I"m just too lazy to install another OS... What do you guys think?

  • Laserjet Experts: How many power cycles per month?

    - by marienbad
I recently got a nice Laserjet 8100DN for my house. I will probably never print more than 1% of its rated monthly duty cycle. But it runs some fairly noisy fans 24/7 if it's left on, so I am in the habit of turning the machine off as soon as I'm done with it. So, for all you who have a lot of experiencing administrating workgroup LaserJets, do you think I'll end up killing it from too many on-off cycles?
