  • Auto-hide OS X menu bar?

    - by dbr
Is there a way to auto-hide the OS X menu bar, like is possible with the Dock? There was an application "Menufela" that did this for Tiger, but I'm not aware of anything similar for Leopard/Snow Leopard.. I'm almost certain this is (programatically) doable, because in full-screen applications the menu bar is hidden, and reappears when you mouse the mouse is at the top of the screen.. Edit: With the help of Steve Folly's answer, the following code: [[NSApplication sharedApplication] setPresentationOptions: NSApplicationPresentationAutoHideMenuBar | NSApplicationPresentationAutoHideDock]; ..will auto-hide the menubar (and the dock, as mandated by the API), but only for the current application: When controlling or disabling features of Mac OS X system using SetSystemUIMode the requested behaviors are only in effect while the process which called SetSystemUIMode is frontmost ..close, but not quite there

  • Rewriting URLs from subdomain to domain in Apache

    - by Nazgulled
Hi, My webserver is running Plesk and part of my site structure goes like this: / /httpdocs (domain root folder, URL: http://www.domain.com) /subdomains /subdomains/blog/httpdocs (blog root folder, URL: http://blog.domain.com) I have a WordPress installation in the domain root folder and WP is configured to display a static page when accessing www.domain.com and to display the blog when accessing www.domain.com/blog. However, I want to redirect (using mod_rewrite) all requests from http://blog.domain.com/ to http://www.domain.com/blog/. A few examples: Accessing http://blog.domain.com/archives should access http://www.domain.com/blog/archives/ Accessing http://blog.domain.com/tag/abc should access http://www.domain.com/blog/tag/abc/ Accessing http://blog.domain.com/some-post-title should access http://www.domain.com/blog/some-post-title All this should be transparent to the user, the address shouldn't be changed on the browser's address bar. In better words, I want a URL rewrite and not a URL redirect. Is this achievable with mod_rewrite? Can anyone help me with the .htaccess? All my attempts on doing so have failed...

  • Config xampp never to cache pages from localhost

    - by Michael Mao
Hello everyone: I am not a webmaster, and that was exactly the reason why I installed XAMPP 1.7.2 on Windows XP SP2 instead of manually configuring Apache, MySQL and PHP to cooperate each other. Now I am having to problem to disable caching pages from localhost. Some suggested just force the browser not to cache, using Firefox web developer bar or something similar; but I feel it would be better if I could configure the Apache server in XAMPP to never allow pages from localhost to be cached. I guess this is done somewhere in httpd.conf? LoadModule cache_module modules/mod_cache.so Would this module be helpful in this case? Doc here : mod_cache I am not very sure this would resolve the problem. Could anyone confirm this approach feasible? I'd like to work it out myself, given the fact that I am on the right track... Many thanks in advance

  • Add power over Ethernet without new switches?

    - by dannymcc
I need to power 16 IP phones over their Ethernet connections. I am in the process of changing our switches and only the phones need PoE, everything else is powered by mains cables. I have contacted the supplier of the phones and for 16 mains leads it will be close to £300. I know it's possible to get a PoE injector that goes between the mains and the phone but I would like to do this as tidily as possible and ideally in bulk. I imagine something that looks like a switch but doesn't actually 'switch' if that makes sense. Basically I want to inject power to 16 devices at once.

  • Alternate Client for Cisco Unified Personal Communicator protocol

    - by Jason M
At work we have an in-house chat system using CUPC. Does anyone else out there use this? There are a few things I do not like about this client: Where's the chat log? If I close the window out, I have no way of getting my conversation back. Tabbed interface? That would be nice. I hate having multiple chat windows up, having to arrange them around my desktop as more people start talking to me. I don't like that I have to use this one-off application for this protocol when other chat clients will handle 99% of the other protocols I use. Tell me: Is the protcol an open standard for which other applications have support? (pidgin, adium, digsby, etc.) If not, can I overcome these issues from within CUPC? Perhaps there are newer versions of the client that overcome these issues.

  • IIS displaying page differently when localhost is used in URL vs. hostname

    - by maik
I'm having (yet another) strange problem with IIS. When viewing an ASPX page I've designed on my local machine by browsing to http://localhost/page.aspx the page looks as expected (and looks the same in IE, Firefox and Chrome. If I change localhost to my_hostname the page is rendered with a disabled vertical scroll bar. The behavior was first noticed when I published my site to our live server and saw the same discrepancy. After beating my head against the wall I tried what I described above and was able to duplicate my "problem". So with that, I turn to you guys. This wouldn't really be an issue (save for the cross-browser inconsistency) except that this screws up an "absolute"ly positioned <div> moving it partway off the screen instead of being centered like it should be (and is when viewed any other way except in IE when the address is anything but localhost).

  • How to unmount a VHD in Windows 7. There is no unmount option.

    - by Triynko
I mounted a VHD file in Windows 7 using the Disk Manager. Once mounted, there is no option to Unmount it. The only thing close to such an option that I can find is if I click the icon in the taskbar notification area that I use to remove USB devices... there's an option to eject the virtual hard disk. However, when I click that, it says that it's in use and cannot be ejected. Even though... it's not in use, I never even browsed the drive. The disk manager is closed... and the only open files handles to the drive (according to disk performance in task manager) is SYSTEM. Ejecting devices cleanly has been a problem since Windows XP, and it sickens me to see it persist into windows 7.

  • Windows 8 can't open any modern UI app

    - by Joyal
I just upgraded my machine with Windows 7 Pro x64, to Windows 8 Pro x64, with the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant. Everything went great, but none of the Modern UI Apps open, and they do not show any error messages or warnings, they just close right away I opened them. I tried to open Skydrive, Windows Store, Photo App,Music App, Bing, Videos , Finances and all the available Modern UI apps on my screen My screen resolution is 1080p, so it is not a resolution issue, I'm using a Windows account , but i switched to Local account but didn't solved the issue. I ran Windows Update and updated my nVidia video drivers. I also tried an app called "Metro App Troubleshooter" without luck

  • Virtual Box fails my OSes :(

    - by Kingston Town
I have a little problem with Virtual Box latest version in which i have installed Mint (also latest version).During creation of a new vdi partition I chose settings as default, that is, I don't create any tiny partitions myself. The installation works. But later while the new OS is running (not in Live mode) I try installing/updating new software available, the system automatically fails, it reports an error of DISKFULL, I close the message box then power off my system. Later on I can't boot it up again anymore. It hangs with a black screen and the PAUSE status. I have no idea why. I have installed 2 OSes and both fail at the same error. I doubt something is not right about the current version of VBox. Thank you . My host OS is Windows7 and my Clients are Mint and CentOS

  • Spoofing domains - using one domain to look at another without frame redirect

    - by hfidgen
Hiya, In Plesk 9.2.2 does anyone know how the following can be achieved? I've got domain1.co.uk registered in plesk, but the domain has not been set up with any nameservers or A records, so it is unreachable from the web. However, I need to test it while we get the domain1.co.uk nameservers etc sorted over the next week or so. SO, i've got sparedomain.co.uk registered, with the nameservers and A records pointing to the server, and sure enough it displays the default plesk "theres no website here yet page" . bingo. Now, how can I set up sparedomain.co.uk on my plesk server, so it displays all the data held on the plesk account for domain1.co.uk? Frame forwarding doesnt work - because you get errors saying "domain1.co.uk cannot be found" in your browser - i need a server solution to spoof it all. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks!

  • Varnish 3.0.2 to Apache2 sometimes return error 503

    - by Ronnie Jespersen
Hey guys I hope you can help me out here. I have an Ngingx parsing http and https to a varnish cache(3.0.2). From the varnish it is sent to apache2. Now I have for some time been tracking some strange 503 errors. But I cant seem to find the silver bullet. Currently I am logging the 503 errors through varnish this way: sudo varnishlog -c -m TxStatus:503 >> /home/rj/varnishlog503.log and then referring to the apache access log to see if any 503 requests have been handled. Today I had a health check from the firewall that failed: 20 SessionOpen c 127.0.0.1 34319 :8081 20 ReqStart c 127.0.0.1 34319 607335635 20 RxRequest c HEAD 20 RxURL c /health-check 20 RxProtocol c HTTP/1.0 20 RxHeader c X-Real-IP: 192.168.3.254 20 RxHeader c Host: 192.168.3.189 20 RxHeader c X-Forwarded-For: 192.168.3.254 20 RxHeader c Connection: close 20 RxHeader c User-Agent: Astaro Service Monitor 0.9 20 RxHeader c Accept: */* 20 VCL_call c recv lookup 20 VCL_call c hash 20 Hash c /health-check 20 VCL_return c hash 20 VCL_call c miss fetch 20 Backend c 33 aurum aurum 20 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 20 VCL_call c error deliver 20 VCL_call c deliver deliver 20 TxProtocol c HTTP/1.1 20 TxStatus c 503 20 TxResponse c Service Unavailable 20 TxHeader c Server: Varnish 20 TxHeader c Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 20 TxHeader c Retry-After: 5 20 TxHeader c Content-Length: 879 20 TxHeader c Accept-Ranges: bytes 20 TxHeader c Date: Wed, 06 Jun 2012 12:35:12 GMT 20 TxHeader c X-Varnish: 607335635 20 TxHeader c Age: 60 20 TxHeader c Via: 1.1 varnish 20 TxHeader c Connection: close 20 Length c 879 20 ReqEnd c 607335635 1338986052.649786949 1338986112.648169994 0.000160217 59.997980356 0.000402689 Now the backend server (apache) does not have any 503 error in the access log at this point. So I am confused. Is this varnish throwing a 503 because it thinks apache is to slow? There is a lot traffic coming through at this point so I know the server is up and running. I do have other 503 error codes with posts and gets so there is really no pattern. It seems to be at random times and random requests. Even in the morning when the server dosen't seem to be doing anything. I do see another pattern in the log: 4 VCL_call c recv pass 4 VCL_call c hash 4 Hash c /?id=412 4 VCL_return c hash 4 VCL_call c pass pass 4 FetchError c no backend connection 4 VCL_call c error deliver 4 VCL_call c deliver deliver Here fetcherror says "no backend connection". A summery of the FetchErrors in todays log: 16 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 5 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 4 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 19 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 5 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 23 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 24 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 16 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 6 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 4 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 5 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 4 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 4 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 22 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 6 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 21 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 26 FetchError c no backend connection 4 FetchError c no backend connection 20 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) 39 FetchError c http first read error: -1 11 (No error recorded) I haven't changed the default timeout values for varnish. This is my configuration for one of the backend servers. backend xenon { .host = "192.168.3.187"; .port = "80"; .probe = { .url = "/health-check/"; .interval = 3s; .window = 5; .threshold = 2; } } I'm running prefork module on apache2 with this configuration <IfModule mpm_prefork_module> StartServers 1 MinSpareServers 2 MaxSpareServers 5 MaxClients 200 MaxRequestsPerChild 75 </IfModule> and only PHP files is sent to the server. • Mac Book Pro wakes up in my backpack

    - by J. Pablo Fernández
This has happened to me twice: I press the power button on my Mac Book Pro, choose sleep, close it, unplug everything, confirm that is off (by pressing my ear to it) and put it in my bag. Some minutes later, the laptop wakes up by itself. Both times I caught it in time. The second time it was so hot I couldn't touch some parts -- it refused to actually wake up, and the screen was blank. Restarting it worked though. Any ideas what might be going on and/or how to prevent this? More details: It's a Mac Book Pro unibody 15" from 2009.

  • A clear understanding about Mozilla Firefox web applications

    - by Girish Mony
I have seen lately a concept of installing open web applications in Firefox and Google Chrome just like extensions here . While the site says it as a installable websites. It looks very similar to bookmarks to me. When you click either bookmarks or this installed applications, it opens new tab and the site or application can be viewed. My question is what is the main difference between normal web application like Gmail, or Super user or Facebook and these installable websites? Also what is the advantage in using this installable web apps from normal web applications which we can access by entering url in the browser address bar? I hope this is the right place to post this question. If not please guide me accordingly.

  • Using .htaccess to protect direct access of files

    - by claydough
We need to prevent direct access of files on our site from someone just entering a URL in their browser. I got this to work by using an htaccess file and it is fine in IE & Safari, but for some reason Firefox doesn't cooperate. I think it has something to do with the way Firefox reports referrers. Here is my code in the .htaccess file. RewriteEngine On RewriteBase / RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(my\.)?bigtimbermedia\.com/.*$ [NC] RewriteRule \.(swf|gif|png|jpg|doc|xls|pdf|html|htm|xlsx|docx)$ http://my.bigtimbermedia.com/ [R,L] If you want to see an example of this, try accessing this first... http://my.bigtimbermedia.com/books/bpGreyWolvesflip/index.html It blocks it properly in all browsers. Now if you go to this URL and click on the link, it works in IE and Safari, but Firefox chokes and seems like it is in a loop. Any ideas how I can get this to work in Firefox? Thanks!

  • Using client certificates with wget

    - by Doc
I cannot get wget to use the client certificates. The documentation speaks about using the --certificate flag. The use of the certificate flag is clear, I set it to use the PEM version of the client certificate. But when I connect I get the following error: HTTP request sent, awaiting response... Read error (error:14094410:SSL routines: SSL3_READ_BYTES:sslv3 alert handshake failure; error:140940E5:SSL routines:SSL3_ READ_BYTES:ssl handshake failure) in headers. Giving up. ssl handshake failure means the client did not supply a correct client cert. Still the client cert I use, works in a browser. Note: When I disable client authentication on the server, wget can connect. Note: The use of curl is suggested, but I'd like to avoid the switch.

  • Remote desktop sessions - Unwanted automatic log off after period of time

    - by alex
I'm having an issue whenever I connect to any of our servers via RDP - After a certain period of time, it seems to close these sessions, closing all the applications i had open etc... This is particularly annoying if I am running a long process - for example, copying a file - it cuts it off... I then re-connect via RDP, and it effectively loads a new session. Is this set somewhere in Group Policy? Or somewhere else? This is happening on Windows 2008 (it may also be on our 2003 servers, although I haven't noticed...)

  • Hosting 2 different SSL domains on the same IP [closed]

  • SharePoint 2010 not seeing Active Directory users

    - by user117927
I'm pretty new to Active Directory and SharePoint but I was given to understand they are supposed to play well together. Now I have successfully set up AD with multiple user accounts that work on any member computer. I have also successfully installed SharePoint 2010 Server on an AD machine. Both the AD server and SharePoint servers are on separate machines (VMs running on ESXi to be precise). I can only log on with user accounts I create on the local server. Furthermore the user browser thing for adding users will only see local users. I've followed the advice here http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc262350.aspx#section2 for Classic authentication and also NTLM claims based authentication but to no avail. Is there something fundamental I am getting wrong here? I'd be really thankful for any help you can lend me; I've been googling and scratching my head for a couple of days now. P

  • Trackpad and battery on stop working at same time

    - by Alex Krycek
Gateway E-475M G Windows 7 Professional SP1 Synaptics TouchPad 15.2.20.0 Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery 6.1.7600.16385 It seems that when my battery stops working correctly, my touchpad will also act erratically. Specifically, the computer will charge for a few seconds, then stop charging for another few seconds. This will continue for some time. But if I close the lid, the charging LED will stay lit. As for the touchpad, it'll click or highlight things at random when I can get it to move. As a test, I stopped charging my computer. Now it seems my touchpad is working fine. I've tried to reinstall both the battery and touchpad drivers. I've also started the computer in safe mode, but that didn't help either. Edit: I've now tried booting my computer with an Ubuntu live cd, and the charging problem persists. So, it now seems my computer can only charge continuously as long as it's turned off or sleeping.

  • Windows 8.1 unable to play Music or the Audio from videos through Optical Out

    - by Zion Fox
I am having an issue with my audio output, where any music file, and the audio side of videos are not being played through my optical audio output. I am running a Realtek HD Audio device built on Revision 1.0 on a GA-P55A-UD6 Gigabyte Board, which runs through it's optical output to an Astro A40 Mixamp, which does some upscaling before sending it to the headset. Now, notification sounds, and sounds/videos/music played through the browser or programs like Skype or games are working fine. This seems to specifically effect Foobar2000 and Media Player Classic. I have updated these two programs to their latest revisions, in addition to the soundcard drivers to no avail, and searching the error code thrown by Foobar2000: Unrecoverable playback error: The parameter is incorrect. (0x80070057) through Google returns not very helpful results, other than the one potentially mentioning DRM. This issue I am having a very hard time resolving, and am wondering if anyone here has experienced similar issues after updating.

  • Virtual guest does not have network access in cafe.

    - by blee
My Virtualbox guest OS (Ubuntu on ubuntu host) does not connect to the internet when I have wifi access through an internet cafe system. By this, I mean where your browser redirects to an internal web page where you can enter a code. On the guest, I can successfully connect to the virtual network adapter, but I do not get internet access, nor a redirect to the internal web page. I use OpenDNS for the host. I have no problems when connecting through ethernet or regular wifi. Can someone tell me any of: 1) How to fix the problem. 2) How such cafe systems work. 3) At least point me to a technical explanation of such a cafe system so I can begin to troubleshoot. Thanks!
