JAX-RS 2.0 Early Draft - Third Edition Available

JAX-RS 2.0 Early Draft Third Edition is now available. This updated draft include new samples explaining the features and clarifications in content-negotiation, discovery of providers, client-side API, filters and entity interceptors and several other sections. Provide feedback to users@jax-rs-spec. Jersey 2.0, the Reference Implementation of JAX-RS 2.0, released their fourth milestone a few days ago as well. Several features have already been implemented there. Note, this is an early development preview and several parts of the API and implementation are still evolving. Feel like trying it out? Simply go to Maven Central (of course none of this is production quality at this point). The latest JAX-RS Javadocs and Jersey 2.0 API docs are good starting points to explore. How do I grok NHibernate's QueryOver API?

I've run into the limits of what NHibernate 3.0's LINQ provider is capable of and decided it's time to learn about one of the more powerful (or at least feature-complete) options: the QueryOver API. The problem is, I have zero experience with ICriteria, and all of the tutorials I've been able to find online either: Assume I'm an ICriteria expert and simply show me how to convert ICriteria code to the new fluent interface, or Are trivial "here's how you do an inner join" examples that don't really help me understand more complex concepts like projections, subqueries, requirements, or whatever other magic the API is capable of. What should I read to really learn about QueryOver, and how to make full use of it?

Question about component based design: handling objects interaction

I'm not sure how exactly objects do things to other objects in a component based design. Say I have an Obj class. I do: Obj obj; obj.add(new Position()); obj.add(new Physics()); How could I then have another object not only move the ball but have those physics applied. I'm not looking for implementation details but rather abstractly how objects communicate. In an entity based design, you might just have: obj1.emitForceOn(obj2,5.0,0.0,0.0); Any article or explanation to get a better grasp on a component driven design and how to do basic things would be really helpful.

Point[] and Tri not "could not be found"

Hi I'm trying to learn how to load a .obj file using OpenTK in windows Forms. I have seen a lot of examples out there, but I do see almost everyone uses List, and Point[]. Code example show these highlighted like there IDE know what these are; for example List<Tri> tris = new List<Tri>(); but mine just returns "The type or namespace name 'Tri' could not be found" is there an include I need to add or a using I am missing. Cookbook: SES and UCM setup

The purpose of this post is to guide you setting up the integration between UCM and SES. On my next post I’ll show different approaches to integrate WebCenter Portal, UCM and SES based on some common scenarios. Let’s get started. WebCenter Content Configuration WebCenter Content has a component that adds functionality to the content server to allow it to be searched via the Oracle SES. To enable the component installation, go to Administration -> Admin Server and select SESCrawlerExport. Click the update button and restart UCM_server1 managed server. Once the managed server is back, we’ll configure the component. In the menu, under Administration you should see SESCrawlerExport. Click on the link. You’ll see the window below. Click on Configure SESCrawlerExport. Configure the values below: Hostname: SES hostname. Feed Location: Directory where data feeds will be saved. Metadata List: List of metadata that will be searchable by SES. After updating the values click on the Update button. Come back to the SESCrawlerExport Administration UI and click on Take Snapshot button. It will create the data feeds in the specified Feed Location. To check if the correct configuration was done, please access the following URL http://<ucm_server>:<port>/cs/idcplg?IdcService=SES_CRAWLER_DOWLOAD_CONFIG&source=default. We’ll populate the following values: HTTP endpoint for authentication: URL to WebCenter Content. Notice that /cs/idcplg was added at the end of the URL. Admin User: UCM Admin user. This user must have access to all CPOE content. Password: Password to Admin user. Authentication Type: NATIVE. Go back to the Home tab and click on Sources on the top left. Select Oracle Content Server on the right and click the Create button. Configuration URL: URL that point to the configuration file. Example: http://<ucm_hostname>:<port>/cs/idcplg?IdcService=SES_CRAWLER_DOWNLOAD_CONFIG&source=default. User ID: UCM Admin user. Password: Password to Admin user. Click on the Authorization tab and add the appropriate values to the fields below. Make sure you see the ACCOUNT and DOCSECURITYGROUP security attributes at the end of the page. HTTP endpoint for authorization: http://<ucm_hostname>:<port>/cs/idcplg. Display URL prefix: http://<ucm_hostname>:<port>/cs. Administrator user: UCM Admin user. Administrator password. On the Document Types tab, add the documents that should be indexed by SES. As our last step, we’ll configure the Federation Trusted Entities under Global Settings. Entity Name: The user must be present in both the identity management server configured for your WebCenter application and the identity management server configured for Oracle SES. For instance, I used weblogic in my sample. Password: Entity user password.\ Now you are ready to test the integration on the SES UI: http://<ses hostname>:<port>/search/query/.

Visual Tree Enumeration

I feel compelled to post this blog because I find I’m repeatedly posting this same code in silverlight and windows-phone-7 answers in Stackoverflow. One common task that we feel we need to do is burrow into the visual tree in a Silverlight or Windows Phone 7 application (actually more recently I found myself doing this in WPF as well). This allows access to details that aren’t exposed directly by some controls. A good example of this sort of requirement is found in the “Restoring exact scroll position of a listbox in Windows Phone 7” question on stackoverflow. This required that the scroll position of the scroll viewer internal to a listbox be accessed. A caveat One caveat here is that we should seriously challenge the need for this burrowing since it may indicate that there is a design problem. Burrowing into the visual tree or indeed burrowing out to containing ancestors could represent significant coupling between module boundaries and that generally isn’t a good idea. Why isn’t this idea just not cast aside as a no-no? Well the whole concept of a “Templated Control”, which are in extensive use in these applications, opens the coupling between the content of the visual tree and the internal code of a control. For example, I can completely change the appearance and positioning of elements that make up a ComboBox. The ComboBox control relies on specific template parts having set names of a specified type being present in my template. Rightly or wrongly this does kind of give license to writing code that has similar coupling. Hasn’t this been done already? Yes it has. There are number of blogs already out there with similar solutions. In fact if you are using Silverlight toolkit the VisualTreeExtensions class already provides this feature. However I prefer my specific code because of the simplicity principle I hold to. Only write the minimum code necessary to give all the features needed. In this case I add just two extension methods Ancestors and Descendents, note I don’t bother with “Get” or “Visual” prefixes. Also I haven’t added Parent or Children methods nor additional “AndSelf” methods because all but Children is achievable with the addition of some other Linq methods. I decided to give Descendents an additional overload for depth hence a depth of 1 is equivalent to Children but this overload is a little more flexible than simply Children. I don’t on the principle of only including code that is actually needed. If you find that one or more of the above is needed in your code then go ahead and create additional methods. One of the downsides to Extension methods is that they can make finding the method you actually want in intellisense harder. Level and Player objects - which should contain which?

I've been working on a several simple games, and I've always come to a decision point where I have to choose whether to have the Level object as an attribute of the Player class or the Player as an attribute of the Level class. I can see arguments for both: The Level should contain the player because it also contains every other entity. In fact it just makes sense this way: "John is in the room." It makes it a bit more difficult to move the player to a new level, however, because then each level has to pass its player object to an upcoming level. On the other hand, it makes programming sense to me to leave the player as the top-level object that is persistent between levels, and the environment changes because the player decides to change his level and location. It becomes very easy to change levels, because all I have to do is replace the level variable on the player. What's the most common practice here? Or better yet, is there a "right" way to architecture this relationship?

How to perform efficient 2D picking in HTML5?

I'm currently using an R-Tree for both picking and collision testing. Each entity on screen has a bounding box for collisions and a separate one for picking. Since entities may change position very frequently, both trees must be updated/reordered once per frame. While this is very efficient for collisions, because the tree is used in hundreds of collision queries every frame, I'm finding it too costly for picking, because it only gets queried when the user clicks, thus leading to a lot of wasted tree updates. What would be a more efficient way to implement picking without as much overhead?

Is Clojure, Scala and other restrained by the JVM vs CLR

The Java implementors seem slow to adopt language improvements, for example compare C# with full closures, expression trees, LINQ etc.. to Java, and even the push back of some stuff to Java 8 will still leave it behind the current implementation of C#. However since I dont intend to use either Java or C# that particular language war isnt of interest too much, im more concerned with the JVM vs CLR. Is this lagging-behind also applicable to the JVM? Will Scala, Clojure etc.. will they be able to continue to innovate or score optimal performance in the face of slowly progressing underlying VM such as JVM? Is Clojure/Scala restrained at present by JVM limitations?

Good structure of IT / programmer CV

Hi, company where I applied for a job requires a very detailed CV mainly of programming languages, frameworks, technology. My CV have 3 pages but for this company is not enough detailed. ;) What structure have your CV in programming languages, frameworks, technology, third-party libraries? Any sample of good structured CV. (as pdf file) Of course I had used the google but I found a dozen same old things. I would like have someting orignal and fresh. Any inspiration? I do not know what to write for example C #. C# OOP, delagate, event, generic, LINQ other WPF control, data template, converter, style, triggers..? Prims, Caliburn, MEF ? Also which skills from OS, IDE, util is suitably to have in CV. I would’t have a 10 pages CV or have bad and immense structure of CV. Sory for my english
