Something make all browsers on any operating system or computer of my home network to open randomly some web pages and ask to install a microsoft protection of some kind, what could do that ???
I hid one of the accounts on my computer from the welcome screen by adding it to the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList
I was hoping I'd be able to log in to this account by hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del on the welcome screen, but Windows 7 completely ignores this. Is there a way to login to the hidden account on a Windows 7 machine?
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa383015(VS.85).aspx states
When a user's session is unexpectedly terminated by a network or client failure, the user is disconnected but not logged off.
But since we got a new system administrator who installed some policy to terminate disconnected sessions after some hours, I never again could reconnect to to an unexpectedly terminated session (usually VPN problem)
I found the following link which shows a similat scenario.
I have an English version of Windows 7, but my keyboard is Japanese.
However, even though I choose a Japanese keyboard (Microsoft IME) under Keyboard and Languages, the layout isn't right. I think it's English layout, but I can't be sure.
Anyway, I want the layout and usage to be exactly like it is on a Japanese Windows 7, as there are some nice (mouse free) shortcuts to change between input modes. Any suggestions?
Some big news this week was Microsoft released the Hyper-V integration components for Linux source code under the GPL v2.
I just installed Ubuntu Server 9.04 in a Hyper-V VM with a Legacy Network Adapter. How do I install the integration components? Do I have to wait until they are included in the kernel?
I want Windows 7 to store thumbnails cache files in the same folder as the files (thumbs.db) instead of using the centralized location for all thumbnails (By default %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer). How would one achieve this effect?
Alternatively, if the former is implausible, I'd settle for no thumbnail caching at all, forcing Windows to regenerate thumbnails each time a folder is accessed.

Simple question: What's the quickest way to get an en dash (–, Unicode U+2013 EN DASH) in Windows? Note that this question is for all programs, not just Microsoft Word.
Even better if it can be copied to the clipboard as a pure Unicode character, with no formatting information (typeface, etc.) so that when I paste it into Word or Excel or other rich text editors, it doesn't carry its format with it.
How do I host a Windows Terminal (to run Windows applications and be accessed by users via a standard MS Remote Desktop client) on a Linux server? I've heard there are some alternatives to Microsoft server software for this purpose.
Hi, Windows 7 is a great OS but there are some problems which should be solved from Microsoft as fast as possible. On my Computer the LAN connection randomly loses its connection. I don't know why but I think this problem depends on my network driver which is only available for Windows XP (where it always worked perfectly).
I can not reproduce this issue. Has anybody here had the same problem?
I am relatively new to the Server side Includes and I am currently been given a task to provide values to the Server Side Includes for my company's system. Well I have learned a few basics from technet.microsoft.com but i was not able to find out what is the meaning of "x-store-info" and what values does this pass on. Can some of the seniors help me out here.
Please provide me at least a Guideline or a path where I can learn this.
I'm looking for a webcam for use with Skype which has a built in microphone.
I specifically want to be able to use the microphone in the camera when i'm taking calls which aren't video calls on skype. Are they any that do this? Does the microsoft H5D Life Camera do this? The operating environment is windows 7 64 bit.
When using Microsoft SQL Server, there is this handy thing called dedicated administrator connection. You can tell the database to drop all connections and not open any new ones, but keep the one you use right now alive for administrative purposes.
Is there a similar feature available for IBM's DB2 UDB?
With Vista and up, 64-bit versions of Windows no longer support 16-bit programs, but 32-bit versions can still run them. Windows 8 has changed a lot of things from even Windows 7, and there were rumors a while back that it would only be available in 64-bit[1][2] which seems not to be the case anymore. It’s no secret thet Microsoft is pushing users to migrate to 64-bit systems. Have they dropped 16-bit support from Windows 8 altogether (including 32-bit versions)?
I want to password-protect a few applications (not just files/folders) on Windows 7, such that, there is no change to the protected application's .exe file itself.
Since the .exe files can't be changed, "Empathy" and "Protect Exe" can't be used as they change the .exe file.
I tried using WinGuard Pro and LockThis! also but they don't work for Microsoft Outlook and some other apps (that I need).
Is it possible at all? Please help.
I have some old classic asp scripts. They used to work on my 2003/IIS 6 server. But on my Vista/IIS 7 and now Windows 7 Ultimate/IIS 7 server the asp pages don't work.
I did what they said here: Deploying a Classic ASP Server (IIS 7) (Microsoft TechNet).
I enabled those 3 features in IIS 7 but that just went from getting 404 to 500 error.

In a Microsoft's post about Windows 8 upgrade it is written:
We set out to make it as easy as possible for everyone to upgrade to Windows 8. Starting at general availability, if your PC is running Windows XP, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 you will qualify to download an upgrade to Windows 8 Pro for just $39.99 in 131 markets.
I am now interested in understanding if this upgrade options are available also for Windows XP/Vista/7 OEM versions. Do you have any idea?
I'm trying to create a registry key with a batch file. I really need to be able to do this via a batch rather than a VBscript or .reg file.
So far by using this guide, I've come up with this. but whenever I try to run it, I don't see it in the registry. (No errors, running as Admin) What am I doing wrong?
REG ADD HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList /v "MyCustomWorkgroupUsername" /t REG_DWORD /d 0
Microsoft offers the standalone Hyper-V server for free. I'm wondering if I can install roles other than the Hyper-V role on this? I know installing other roles alongside Hyper-V is a bad practice, but what I'm trying to ask is if the Hyper-V Server edition of Windows Server allows installation of other roles, like DNS server, File Server etc. Infact I'm not interested in running Hyper-V, just looking for a free windows server to install some roles on.
Thanks
A Windows service has 4 different startup types that can be configured: Automatic, Automatic (delayed), Manual and Disabled.
I have a service running on a combination of Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 Desktops that I need to set as 'Automatic (delayed)' using a GPO setting, but from what I can see in the GPO editor, the delayed option is missing:
Have I missed something obvious, or is this a rather basic omission from Microsoft?
during last 2 years i found a lot of domains that support free mail use live.com emails (Microsoft) .. I search if any have the full list of email domains that are supported (hosted) in live.com ?
I have a SQL Server 2008 R2 on my machine which stores everything on the C: drive (C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10_50.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA). I got an additional Hard Drive now and would like to move all the databases over.
It's 26 databases, so I'd like to avoid manually disconnecting/reconnecting them. Ideally I would just like to move them from C: and D: and tell SQL Server to look there.
Downtime is not an issue, I just don't want to do dozens of mouse clicks :)
I have following question : If setup of some application A was interrupted , and name of it does not appear in Add| Remove program list .I tryed to use Windows Installer CleanUp Utility of Microsoft but if the item does not appear in Add | Remove , the Utility cannot be used . What is right way to remove remaining items from the system ? Your information will be very helpful . Thanks in advance
We're using ImageX to deploy Windows 7 Professional. We've gotten the Windows partition to work, but the recovery partition (100-200MB at the front of the drive in a standard install) isn't as simple. Here's a Technet guide I found: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744280%28WS.10%29.aspx
That looks like it could work, but would take alot of time if we need to do that for every single machine we deploy. Is there a faster/automated way?
