  • Always get the correct datetime?

    I was wandering if there is a way/site/link whith the correct time? Not the servers datetime or the clients datetime. I'm using datetime to count down on my gaming site for when it is the users time to make a play. Users come from all ower the world so using the users client time would not match if its from the US to Europe. Then normally I would use the servers time, but somehow it skips 1.2 hours sometimes? I would like to make sure that everbody makes a timestamp from the same source and that source always is correct! Hoping for help and thanks in advance.

    I would like to know from my application if a myisam table can accept writes (i.e. not locked). If an exception is thrown, everything is fine as I can catch this and log the failed statement to a file. However, if a 'flush tables with read lock' command has been issued (possibly for backup), the query I send will pretty much hang out forever. If one table is locked at a time, insert delayed works well. But when this global lock is applied, my query just waits. The query I run is an insert statement. If this statement fails or hangs, user experience is degraded. I need a way to send the query to the server and forget about it (pretty much). Does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this? -set a query timeout? -run asyncronous request and allow for the lock to expire while application continues? -fork my php process? Please let me know if I can provide and clarification or details.

  • The best way to structure this database?

    At the moment I'm doing this: gems(id, name, colour, level, effects, source) id is the primary key and is not auto-increment. A typical row of data would look like this: id => 40153 name => Veiled Ametrine colour => Orange level => 80 effects => +12 sp, +10 hit source => Ametrine (Some of you gamers might see what I'm doing here :) ) But I realise this could be sorted a lot better. I have studied database relationships and secondary keys in my A-Level computing class but never got as far as to set one up properly. I just need help with how this database should be organised, like what tables should have what data with what secondary and foreign keys? I was thinking maybe 3 tables: gem, effects, source. Which then have relationships to each other? Can anyone shed some light on this? Is a complex way like I'm proposing really the way to go or should I just carry on with what I'm doing? Cheers.

  • Relating text fields to check boxes in Java

    This program requires the user to login and request a database to access. The program then gets a connection object, searches through the database storing the column names into a vector for later use. The problem comes with implementing text fields to allow the user to search for specific values within the database. I can get the check boxes and text fields to appear using a gridlayout and add them to a panel. How do I relate the text fields to their appropriate check box? I've tried adding them to a vector, but then they can't also be added to the panel as well. I've searched for a way to name the text fields as the loop cycles through the column names, but it seems impossible to do without having them declared ahead of time. This can't be done either, as it's impossible to determine the attributes that the user will request. I just need to be able to know the names of the text fields so I can test to see if the user entered information and perform the necessary logic. Let me know if you have to see the rest of the code to give an answer, but hopefully you get the general idea of what I'm trying to accomplish.   • Is it possible to integrate user databases between Drupal and an ASP&SQL Server platform?

This would be easier from Project to Drupal (since there is user_save and user_delete functions available globally by using drupal bootstrap) but I'm not sure if we can execute PHP functions on an ASP platform. Is there any documentation for this kind of problems? What do you suggest?

    I don't know the best way to title this question but am trying to accomplish the following goal: When a client logs into their profile, they are presented with a link to download data from an existing database in CSV format. The process works, however, I would like for this data to be 'fresh' each time they click the link so my plan was - once a user has clicked the link and downloaded the CSV file, the database table would 'erase' all of its data and start fresh (be empty) until the next set of data populated it.
