  • JavaScript: How do I create an Array into another Array?

    - by Timnkd
    I have the following JavaScript Array: var jsonArray = { 'homes' : [ { "home_id":"203", "price":"925", "sqft":"1100", "num_of_beds":"2", "num_of_baths":"2.0", }, { "home_id":"59", "price":"1425", "sqft":"1900", "num_of_beds":"4", "num_of_baths":"2.5", }, // ... (more homes) ... ]} I want to convert this in an Array like such (pseudo code): var newArray = new Array(); newArray.push(home_id's); How can I do that? Notice how the newArray only has home_ids from the big jsonArray array.

  • CodeIgniter - the right way to create "block" elements on web page

    - by kikkoman90
Hello. I've been searching for a solutions for this problem a while but haven't seen any "valid mvc" solution for this. I hope I can explain my problem clearly enough for you guys. I need to create a dynamic block of HTML on my website. (eg. a block containing user's latest blog comments). I have a template view file (a file containing header, content container and a footer) where I need to add some content AND this block element. The problem is that I don't want to duplicate this block code on every controller. It just feels stupid and I'm sure there's a better way to do this than just duplicating same stuff all over again on all the controller files? I can add view inside another view just fine, but what bugs me is how to actually generate that dynamic content to this block's view-file. I can't call controller from view file, controller from controller filem or model from view file because what I understand that just isn't the "mvc" way? Anyone got any tricks or tips for this?

  • jQuery DIV click, with anchors

    - by ANaimi
To make click-able divs, I do: <div class="clickable" url="http://google.com"> blah blah </div> and then $("div.clickable").click( function() { window.location = $(this).attr("url"); }); I don't know if this is the best way, but it works perfectly with me, except for one issue: If the div contains a click-able element, such as <a href="...">, and the user clicks on the hyperlink, both the hyperlink and div's-clickable are called This is especially a problem when the anchor tag is referring to a javascript AJAX function, which executes the AJAX function AND follows the link in the 'url' attribute of the div. Anyway around this?

  • How painful is a django project deployment to a live (staging) site?

    - by Ignacio
Hi, I've getting quite fast with a small django project of mine, which I'm developing locally, of course. But, as I had never worked with django before, I'm not aware of what it implies to upload it and test it on a production server. And I'm quite curious, since I'm very eager to test an early release live. I know there is this document, which I think it'll be really helpful: http://djangobook.com/en/2.0/chapter12/ But, are there any details I should take into account before, during and after the deployment? Any advice or best practices? Thanks.

  • What reasons are there NOT to use OpenID?

    - by cletus
You see a fair bit (in the Geek community anyway) about OpenID. It seems like a good idea. I'm developing a website that will be targeted at a somewhat less geeky audience (but not quite Mom and Pops either) so I have to wonder if OpenID is going to be "too hard" for some audiences. What do you think? That aside, are there any other technical or non-technical reasons NOT to use OpenID?

  • How do I submit a form from another page?

    - by Tommy
I have a two page site. Each page contains a header with "tabs" at the top, to navigate between page 1 and 2. When a tab is selected, I need the selected page to re-POST to the server, to quickly refresh before it is displayed. I have a form on each page that allows a manual refresh from that page but need to submit that form from the other page. For example, page 2 is displayed. The tab for page 1 is selected (which is on page 2) It should then submit the refresh form on page 1. Any help is appreciated. (Using jQuery, js, html and CSS)

  • HTML img scaling

    - by rwallace
I'm trying to display some large images with HTML img tags. At the moment they go off the edge of the screen; how can I scale them to stay within the browser window? Or in the likely event that this is not possible, is it possible to at least say "display this image at 50% of its normal width and height"? The width and height attributes distort the image -- as far as I can tell, this is because they refer to whatever attributes the container may end up with, which will be unrelated to the image. I can't specify pixels because I have to deal with a large collection of images each with a different pixel size. Max-width doesn't work.

  • What are the downside of not having an index.html file to some directories

    - by Pennf0lio
Hi, I'm curious what are some effects/downside of not putting an index.html file to your directories (e.g images). I know when an index file is not present to a directory, files inside that directory are no longer private and will be visible to the browsers when point (eg yoursite.com/images/). Aside from that what are some big effects to consider? and how to properly secure them. thanks!

  • Securing paths in PHP

    - by tjm
I'm writing some PHP which takes some paths to different content directories, and uses these to include various parts of pages later. I'm trying to ensure that the paths are as they seem, and none of them break the rules of the application. I have PRIVATEDIR which must lie above DOCUMENT_ROOT (aka) PUBLICDIR. CONTENTDIR which must lie within PRIVATEDIR and not go back below PUBLICDIR and some other *DIR's which must remain within CONTENTDIR. Currently I set up some defaults, and then override the ones the user specifies and then sanity check them with the following. private function __construct($options) { error_reporting(0); if(is_array($options)) { $this->opts = array_merge($this->opts, $options); } if($this->opts['STATUS']==='debug') { error_reporting(E_ALL | E_NOTICE | E_STRICT); } $this->opts['PUBLICDIR'] = realpath($_SERVER['DOCUMENT_ROOT']) .DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR; $this->opts['PRIVATEDIR'] = realpath($this->opts['PUBLICDIR'] .$this->opts['PRIVATEDIR']) .DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR; $this->opts['CONTENTDIR'] = realpath($this->opts['PRIVATEDIR'] .$this->opts['CONTENTDIR']) .DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR; $this->opts['CACHEDIR'] = realpath($this->opts['PRIVATEDIR'] .$this->opts['CACHEDIR']) .DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR; $this->opts['ERRORDIR'] = realpath($this->opts['CONTENTDIR'] .$this->opts['ERRORDIR']) .DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR; $this->opts['TEMPLATEDIR' = realpath($this->opts['CONTENTDIR'] .$this->opts['TEMPLATEDIR']) .DIRECTORY_SEPARATOR; // then here I have to check that PRIVATEDIR is above PUBLICDIR // and that all the rest remain within private dir and don't drop // down into (or below) PUBLICDIR again. And die with an error if // they don't conform. } The thing is this seems like a lot of work to do, especially as it must be run, every time a page is accessed, before I can do anything else, e.g check for a cached version of the page I'm serving. Part of me is thinking, since all of these paths are predefined by the maintainer of the site, they SHOULD be aware of what paths they are allowing access to and ensuring they are secure. But, I think I'm thinking that because currently I am said maintainer, and I KNOW my paths conform to the rules. That said, I do want to secure this thing from any accidental errors by future maintainers (and I bet, now I've said above "I KNOW...", probably from myself somewhere down the line). This just feels like a suboptimal solution. I wonder how fast this would really be and what you would suggest to improve it or as an alternative? Thanks.

  • Best way to use the same HTML on static web-pages

    - by John
If you use dynamic pages like JSP or asp.net, you can have your page template included, and then content added. But what if you have no server-side component and all pages are just HTML/JS? You can of course create a template then copy it for each page, but then if you want to change something you risk having to modify every page, even if you put most styling in CSS properly. Are there any non-awful ways to do this? I could see that an iframe could be used to load the content into the central page but that sounds nasty. Does HTML provide any way to include a base file and add to it?

  • Detecting a website's framework

    - by Rakesh Juyal
I was reading the article "50 of the Best Websites Developed Using Ruby on Rails". It seems quite impressive. But is there any way to find out which framework any specific website uses? Say dzone.com, how could I find out which framework it is using? How could I find websites made with, for example, the Spring Framework?

  • The best approach to customize Bootstrap Less files and keep it easy to be updated to future versions

    - by user322896
I'm wondering what the best way would be to customize the less files in Bootstrap and, at the mean time, keep it easy to be updated to future Bootstrap versions. It's straightforward to just modify the less files, but the problem is that when the next version of Bootstrap comes out, it might be painful to upgrade (because all the changes are already deeply mixed with the original sources.) Another approach would be similar to the open closed principle, that is, keeping the original less files unchanged, and adding my customized less files to overwrite the CSS rules I need. When Bootstrap gets updated, (hopefully) I can simply replace the less files and everything would work magically. However, regardless of the correctness of my assumption, the same CSS rules would be scattered in even more places and hard to manage. Also, the more we overwrite the CSS (not for compatibility or other purposes), the more bandwidth we waste. I know this highly depends on how the author of Bootstrap would handle the structure of the framework or even the naming of CSS rules, but I'd still like to hear everybody's opinions. Thanks.

  • Version control PHP Web Project

    - by Adam Lerman
We have a php project that we would like to version control. Right now there are three of us working on a "Dev" version of the project that all have our Eclipse linked to it with just an external folder, and thus no version control. What is the right way, and what is the best way, to version control this (not necessarily the same I dont think) We have a SVN set up but just need to find a good way to check in and check out that lets us test on the dev server. Any ideas?

  • how to fetch data using jquery

    - by user3566029
    I have tried to connect my index.php file in 000webhost.com using jQuery. From the site menu I have connected with 000webhost using FTP details available in 000webhost.com. When I tried to read data from jQuery it doesn’t working. Anyone please tell me what should I need to change? Should I need to connect my Dreamweaver database to webhost? If yes please explain? This is what I have done. index.php $mysql_host = "mysql0.000webhost.com"; $mysql_database = "a000000_mydb"; $mysql_user = "a000000_root"; $mysql_password = "******"; $conn=@mysql_connect ( $mysql_host,$mysql_user,$mysql_password )or die('aa'); mysql_select_db($mysql_database,$conn) or die('eoor on db'); $quer=mysql_query("SELECT * FROM sam"); $res=array(); while($row=mysql_fetch_row($quer)) { $res[]=$row; } print(json_encode($res)); return json_encode($res); mysql_close(); index.html $.get('public_html/index.php', function( data ) { alert( 'Successful' +data); });

  • Can an iframe pop up a Lightbox-style box?

    - by Alex
Hi. This question isn't about popping up an iframe inside a Lightbox; rather, it's about an iframe on a page that can launch its own Lightbox-style box in the page that contains that iframe. I'm thinking this can't be possible, because the iframe contains the contents of the other URL and whatever Lightbox that URL launches has to fit within the iframe. Thanks.

  • Using PHP's exec() function (or the likes), how can you display terminal error output?

    - by Miciah Amberong
Previous Reference I am just wondering if there's a way (using PHP) to output the compile error information from the terminal to the browser? For example: If you use this code to execute in the terminal... gcc -o try try.c ...and assuming the "try.c" have some errors. The terminal will output something like this: try.c In function 'main': try.c:27 'x' undeclared (first use in this function) try.c:27 (Each undeclared identifier is reported only once try.c:27 for each function it appears in.) Meanwhile, using this PHP code... <?php exec("gcc -o try try.c"); ?> The browser does not return any output like the terminal does. Is there a possible way direct or indirect that the error details that the terminal showed can be passed to the be displayed on a browser? Thank you very much.
