• Facebook App Wall Posting no longer showing in Facebook iPhone App

  I use the GRAPH API with django for Facebook wall postings. Since yesterday, the wall posts only show on the Facebook web app but not the Facebook iPhone app. I tried Yelp, and their postings still show up. How can I debug this? Anyone notice this issue with their Facebook connect? Is this a Facebook algorithm issue.   I am struggling to find a good tutorial or best practices document for the use of memcache in app engine. I'm pretty happy with it on the level presented in the docs. Get an object by ID, checking memcache first, but I'm unclear on things like: If you cache a query, is there an accepted method for ensuring that the cache is cleared/updated when an object stored in that query is updated. What are the effects of using ReferenceProperties ? If a cache a Foo object with a Bar reference. Is my foo.bar in memcache too and in need of clearing down if it gets updated from some other part of my application. I don't expect answers to this here (unless you are feeling particularly generous!), but pointers to things I could read would be very gratefully received.

Even a little bit experience of mine says that developing in native environment rather than these cross platform tools will give you more advantages by giving a developer a chance to add more features with better performance. • Why use Django on Google App Engine?

  When researching Google App Engine (GAE), it's clear that using Django is wildly popular for developing in Python on GAE. I've been scouring the web to find information on the costs and benefits of using Django, to find out why it's so popular. While I've been able to find a wide variety of sources on how to run Django on GAE and the various methods of doing so, I haven't found any comparative analysis on why Django is preferable to using the webapp framework provided by Google. To be clear, it's immediately apparent why using Django on GAE is useful for developers with an existing skillset in Django (a majority of Python web developers, no doubt) or existing code in Django (where using GAE is more of a porting exercise). My team, however, is evaluating GAE for use on an all-new project and our existing experience is with TurboGears, not Django. It's been quite difficult to determine why Django is beneficial to a development team when the BigTable libraries have replaced Django's ORM, sessions and authentication are necessarily changed, and Django's templating (if desirable) is available without using the entire Django stack. Finally, it's clear that using Django does have the advantage of providing an "exit strategy" if we later wanted to move away from GAE and need a platform to target for the exodus. I'd be extremely appreciative for help in pointing out why using Django is better than using webapp on GAE. I'm also completely inexperienced with Django, so elaboration on smaller features and/or conveniences that work on GAE are also valuable to me. Thanks in advance for your time!

  I've been looking into iPhone development, but I've been having problems coming up with the answer to a certain question. If I create an application on my Mac, is there any way I can get it to run on an iPhone without going through the app store? It doesn't matter if the iPhone has to be jailbroken, as long as I can still run an application created using the official SDK.   At my local university, there is a small student computing club of about 20 students. The club has several small teams with specific areas of focus, such as mobile development, robotics, game development, and hacking / security. I am introducing some basic agile development concepts to a couple of the teams, such as user stories, estimating complexity of tasks, and continuous integration for version control and automated builds/testing. I am familiar with some basic development life-cycles, such as waterfall, spiral, RUP, agile, etc., but I am wondering if there is such a thing as a software development life-cycle for hacking / breaching security. Surely, hackers are writing computer code, but what is the life-cycle of that code? I don't think that they would be too concerned with maintenance, as once the breach has been found and patched, the code that exploited that breach is useless. I imagine the life-cycle would be something like: Find gap in security Exploit gap in security Procure payload Utilize payload What kind of differences (if any) are there for the development life-cycle of software when the purpose of the product is to breach security?

• Why I Love Microsoft Development

  I've been writing software for a while and recently had an opportunity to broaden my horizons and start developing for iOS. We decided to leverage, as much as possible, our existing skills and use MonoTouch and MonoDevelop by Novell.    For those of you who do not know, Mono is a .NET port originally designed for Linux but adapted for other platforms as well. MonoTouch is a port specifically for building iOS applications using the .NET framework. MonoDroid is a port (in CTP-esque release) for Android.   A MISSING COMPONENT - VISUAL DESIGNER   MonoDevelop lacks one very significant component compared with other tools I am using: NO VISUAL DESIGNER. Instead of using an integrated visual designer, MonoDevelop shells to the Mac OS "Interface Builder".  Since MonoDevelop lets me have a "Visual Studio-esque" feel *and* I get to use C#, AND it's FREE, I am gladly willing to overlook this.  In fact, it's not even a question.  Free?  Sure, I'll take it with no Visual Designer.   In my experiences I've grown from UNIX and DOS to .NET development through many steps. Java/JSP/Servlets; Windows; Web; etc. I've been doing .NET for quite a few years and I guess I just got "comfortable" with the tools.   WHY AM I NOT GETTING IT?   Interface Builder (IB) is amazingly confusing for me. I had the opportunity to speak at the Northern VA Code Camp on 12/11/2010. My presentation was "Getting Started with iOS Development using MonoTouch and C#".    At the visual design part of the presentation, I asked one of the 3 or 4 Mac developers in the room about my confusion with the IB. I don't understand why the "Classes" list includes objects. I don't understand what "File's Owner" is. And, most importantly, WHAT THE HECK IS AN OUTLET AND WHY IS IT NECESSARY?!?!?"   His response to these question (especially Outlets): "They did it wrong."   I'm accustom to a visual designer that creates variables for graphical widgets for me. Not IB. Instead, I have to create "Outlets" manually. I still do not understand why and, the explanation from a seasoned Mac developer is that it's wrong. (He received nods of confirmation from the other Mac devs in the room.)   I LOVE MS DEV   I love development for Microsoft platforms using Microsoft development tools. I love Windows 7. I love Visual Studio 2010. I love SQL Server. Azure, Entity Framework, Active Directory, Office, WCF/WF/WPF, etc. are all designed with integration in mind. They are also all designed with developers in mind.   Steve Ballmer recently ranted "It's the developers!" That's why it is relatively quick to build apps using MS tools. Clearly, MS knows that while we usually enjoy building technology solutions, we are here to make money. And we need tools that accelerate our time to market without compromising the power and quality of our solutions.   So, yeah, I am sucking up I guess. But I love Microsoft Development. Thank you, Microsoft, for providing the plethora of great development tools.    P.S. (but please slow down a bit…I'm having trouble keeping up!)

• Eclipse 3.5 Missing New Web Application option after installing Google App Engine plugin

  Hey all, I just used Eclipse 3.5 to install the Google App Engine plug in. The plug in is showed as installed in the update manager. However, I am not seeing the option to "New Web Application Project" (http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/tools/eclipse.html). I also don't see anything Google related when I type Google into the search bar under Windows Preferences. There were no errors at the time of installation, and I was asked if I wanted to restart Eclipse, clicked yes, and it restarted accordingly. Am I missing something?

• Restlets with Google App Engine, Java Server Pages, (JSP's), and Shiro authentication

  I'm having difficulty integrating Restlets into my project. I'm using google app engine (GAE) and I also have some java server pages (JSPs) set up. The JSP's never seem to work at the same time as the Restlets, should I only be using one or the other in GAE? I'm also using Shiro (formerly Ki, formerly JSecurity) and I have been unable to get Restlets to work with Shiro's filter for authentication. Are there any issues in particular that I should be aware of? What are other people using to secure restlet apps on GAE? Is Shiro overkill if I just need authentication and some role-based authorization? Thanks so much! Chris

  I want to read an XML file and parse it, for that I had used SAX parser which requires file as input to parse. For that I had stored my XML file in Entity called XMLDocs with following property XMLDocs Entity Name name : Property of string type content : property of blob type (will contain my xml file) Reason I had to store file like this as I had not yet provide my billing detail to google Now when I try to open this file in my I am getting error of permission denied..   Hi, We are starting a very large web based service project. We are trying to decide what hosting environment to use. We would really like to use Google App Engine for scalability reasons and to eliminate the need to deal with servers ourselves. Secure logins/registrations is very important to us, as well as using our own domain. Our target audience is not very computer savvy. For this reason, we don't want to have the users have to sign up with OpenID as this can't be done within our site. We also do not want to force our customers to sign up with Google. As far as I can see, I am out of luck. I am hoping to have a definite answer to this question. Can I have an encrypted login to our site accessed via our domain, without having to send the customers to another site for the login (OpenID/Google). Thanks.

  Hello experts! I have created an app which allows users to buy non-consumable content. The retrieving-ids-payment-process works like a charm. What i can't really figure out is how my content should be saved into the phone. The existing structure is that I have all my current content in Resources/packages/. For every package there is an matching entry in a package.plist. When the purchase is complete it is time to download the content from the server. What i retrieve from the server is a zip file with the new package that I have bought. My observer will call a method named provideContent: -(void) provideContent: (NSString*) productIdentifier { In here I will call my server and download the package } What i need from you guys is some sort of step by step walkthrough or tutorial of how, when the zip is retrieved(is zip allowed?), unpack this zip and add it to my current package structure. • While submitting app to iOS App Store, "Unable to unzip application"

  I've successfully submitted "Product Name" to App Store. However, submitting "Product Name Lite", I keep getting the error "Unable to unzip application" in both Application Loader and built-in Xcode's uploader. Error persists even after eliminating spaces from the product name; in fact, I don't think there's whitespace anywhere in the app or the plist anymore. What might be causing this "highly descriptive" error? I'm using Xcode 3.2.5. Attempting to clean, build, and build&archive did not help.

The difference is that this time I do it with app engine. my views: http://slexy.org/view/s21GMw2sh1 I have 2 problems: 1.) I get error: "'Query' object has no attribute 'all'" on line 59 in views. As I understand it's something to do with the fact that GAE queryset is different from django queryset. How can I fix that? 2.)   Would you refactor your app as you go or focus on completing app first? Refactoring will mean progress of app app will slow down. Completing app will mean you get a possibly very hard to maintain app later on? The app is a personal project. I don't really know how to answer "What drives the functionality and design", but I guess it's to solve inefficiencies in current software out there. I like minimal easy to use software too. So I am removing some features and add some that I feel will help.
