  • AJAX, same-origin Policy and working XML Requests

    - by Joern
    Hello guys, so, currently I develop Widgets for Smartphones and am going a bit more advanced into fields of data exchange between client and server applications. My problem is: For my current project I want my client file to request data from a PHP script with the help of AJAX XmlHttpRequest and the POST method: function xmlRequestNotes() { var parameter = 'p=1234'; xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); xmlhttp.open("POST", url, true); // Http Header xmlhttp.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "application/x-www-form-urlencoded"); xmlhttp.setRequestHeader("Content-length", parameter.length); xmlhttp.setRequestHeader("Connection", "close"); xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=function() { if (xmlhttp.readyState==4 && xmlhttp.status==200) { json = JSON.parse(xmlhttp.responseText); // Doing Stuff with the Response } }; xmlhttp.send(parameter); } This works perfectly fine on my local server set up in XAMPP and the local Widget emulator. But if it gets onto the device (also with access to the target network) I receive the 101 Network Error. And as far as I have read, this is due to the "Same-Origin Policy" of XmlHttpRequests? My problem is to really understand that. Although the idea of this policy is clear to me, I'm a bit confused by the fact that another XmlHttpRequest for a Yahoo Weather XML Feed works fine. Now, could anyone be so helpful to enlighten me? Here is the request that returns a city name from Yahoo's weather feed: function getCityName() { xmlhttp = new XMLHttpRequest(); xmlhttp.open("GET", "http://weather.yahooapis.com/forecastrss?w=645458&u=c", true); xmlhttp.onreadystatechange = function() { if (xmlhttp.readyState==4 && xmlhttp.status==200) { xmlhttp.responseXML; var yweather = "http://xml.weather.yahoo.com/ns/rss/1.0"; alert(xmlhttp.responseXML.getElementsByTagNameNS(yweather, "location")[0].getAttribute("city")); } }; xmlhttp.send(null); } Obvious differences are the POST and GET methods for once, but seeing that the Same-Origin Policy takes effect no matter what method, I can't really make much sense of it. Why does the latter request work but not the first? I would really appreciate some help here. Greetings and a merry Christmas to you guys!

  • How to delay hiding of a menu with Jquery Dropdown Menu?

    - by Keith Donegan
    I have a dropdown menu that works fine, but I would like it so, that if I hover off the menu, it doesn't immediately hide again. So basically I would like a one second delay. I have read about setTimeout, but not sure if it is what I need? $('#mainnav a').bind('mouseover', function() { $(this).parents('li').children('ul').show(); }); $('#mainnav a').bind('mouseout', function() { $(this).parents('li').children('ul').hide(); });

    - by Misha Moroshko
    I don't understand why the vertical scroll bar moves automatically to the most top position when "Line 9" clicked, for example. Further clicks does not move the scroll bar. Could anyone explain why, and how to fix this ? • Passing variables from PHP to Javascript back to PHP using Ajax.

    - by ObjectiveJ
    I hope this makes sesne, please bare with me. So I have a PHP page that contains variables, I have some radial boxes, and on click of them, it calculates a price for the item you have clicked on. I do this by activating a js function that I have passed some variables to. Like so. PHP: <?php $result = mssql_query("SELECT * FROM Segments ORDER BY 'Squares'"); if (!$result) { echo 'query failed'; exit; } while ($row = mssql_fetch_array($result)) { ?> <span><?php echo $row["Squares"]; ?></span><input name="squares" type="radio" onclick="ajaxCases('<?php echo $row["Squares"]; ?>', '<?php echo $row["StartCaseID"]; ?>', '<?php echo $row["StartMatrixPrice"]; ?>')" value="<?php echo $row["Squares"]; ?>"<?php if ($row["Squares"] == "1") { ?> checked="checked" <?php }else{ ?> checked="" <?php } ?>/> <?php } ?> As you can see onclick it goes to a function called ajaxcases, this function looks like this. function ajaxCases(squares,start,price){ $('#step1').html('<p style="margin:100px 0px 0px 100px"><img src="images/ajax-loader-bigindic.gif" width="32" height="32" alt="" /></p>'); $('#step1').load("ajax-styles.php?squares="+squares); prevId1 = ""; document.varsForm.caseid.value=start; $('#step1price').html('<span style="margin:0px 0px 0px 30px"><img src="images/ajax-loader-price.gif" width="24" height="24" alt="" /></span>'); $('#step1price').load("ajax-step1-price.php?Squares="+Squares); return true; } This then goes to a php page called ajax-step1-price.php and I try to recall the variable Squares. However it doesn't work, I thought it was a GET however that returns undefined. In Summary: I would like to know how to pass a variable from PHP to JS then back to PHP, or if someone could just tell me where I am going wrong that would be greatly appreciated.

  • Swapping two jQuery draggable list items not working properly (with jsFiddle example)

    - by Tony_Henrich
    The minimalist working example below swaps the two boxes when box 'one' is dragged and dropped on box 'two'. The problem is that when box 'one' is dropped, its style has 'top' & 'left' values causing it to be placed away from where it should drop. Its class includes 'ui-draggable-dragging'. It seems the top & left values are related to the amount the elements were dragged before the drop. And the dragging was 'interrupted' hence the residual 'ui-draggable-dragging' class? What am I missing to make the swap work seamlessly? full jsfiddle example here <html> <head> <script type="text/javascript" src="includes/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="includes/jquery-ui-1.8.2.custom.min.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript"> jQuery.fn.swapWith = function(to) { return this.each(function() { var copy_to = $(to).clone(true); var copy_from = $(this).clone(true); $(to).replaceWith(copy_from); $(this).replaceWith(copy_to); }); }; $(document).ready(function() { options = {revert: true}; $("li").draggable(options) $('#wrapper').droppable({ drop: function(event, ui) { $(ui.draggable).swapWith($('#two')); } }); }); </script> </head> <body> <form> <ul id="wrapper"> <li id='one'> <div style="width: 100px; height: 100px; border: 1px solid green"> one<br /></div> </li> <li id='two'> <div style="width: 110px; height: 110px; border: 1px solid red"> two<br /></div> </li> </ul> <br /> </form> </body> </html>

  • Common utility functions for Perl .t tests

    - by zedoo
    Hi I am getting started with Test::More, already have a few .t test scripts. Now I'd like to define a function that will only be used for the tests, but accross different .t files. Where's the best place to put such a function? Define another .t without any tests and require it where needed? (As a sidenote I use the module structure created by Module::Starter)

  • mootools fx working except in ie9

    - by Craig
    This is my first attempt with Mootools, so I welcome a critique of the code. I have a dynamic list of images that expand on the 'click" event and contract on the 'mouseout' event. The code works fine in all browsers (FF, Safari, Chrome, even the smartphones) but not in IE9 (JS is enabled) Anyone with similar problem or solution? I plan to use a lightbox effect, downloading a larger & clearer image to the center of the page, instead of just resizing a small image. However, I am hesitant to attempt this, if there is problems with IE9. I have coded three image sizes with the upload commit, so the larger image is available for the lightbox, but, I don't see anything in mootools for a lightbox, or am I missing it? $i = 0; while($i < count($validate)) { <div class="validate"> <div class="validate_image_<?php echo $validate[$i]['validate_type']; ?>"> <div class="validate_image" id="validate_image_wrapper_<?php echo $i; ?>"> <?php if ($validate[$i]['validate_image_filename'] != '') { if (file_exists(UPLOAD_DIR . 'validate_image/' . str_replace('.', '_medium.', $validate[$i]['validate_image_filename']))) { echo '<img src="' . UPLOAD_URL . 'validate_image/' . str_replace('.', '_medium.', $validate[$i]['validate_image_filename']) . '" alt="Listing Image" />'; } else { echo '<img src="' . UPLOAD_URL . 'validate_image/' . str_replace('.', '_large.', $validate[$i]['validate_image_filename']) . '" alt="Listing image" />'; } } else { ?> <img src="/images/no_image_posted_validate.png" alt="no image posted" /> <?php } ?> </div> ... remainder of HTML display code function setupEnlargeImage() { window.myFx = new Fx({ duration: 200, transition: Fx.Transitions.Sine.easeOut }); $$('.validate_image').addEvent('click', function() { window.selectedImage = this.id; myFx.start(1,2.0); }); $$('.validate_image').addEvent('mouseout', function() { window.selectedImage = this.id; myFx.start(1.0,1); }); myFx.set = function(value) { var style = "scale(" + (value) + ")"; $(window.selectedImage).setStyles({ "-webkit-transform": style, "-moz-transform": style, "-o-transform": style, "-ms-transform": style, transform: style }); } }

  • How to not over-use jQuery?

    - by Fedyashev Nikita
    Typical jQuery over-use: $('button').click(function() { alert('Button clicked: ' + $(this).attr('id')); }); Which can be simplified to: $('button').click(function() { alert('Button clicked: ' + this.id); }); Which is way faster. Can you give me any more examples of similar jQuery over-use?

  • jQuery AJAX POST gives undefined index

I've copied this as is from an old version of the website, but I've changed the file structure (through to move to WordPress) so I suspect the variables might not even be reaching eventinfo.php in the first place... index.php is in wp-content/themes/cambridge and eventinfo.php is in wp-content/themes/yasmin/guestvibe but I've tried to avoid structuring issues by referencing the URL in full. Any ideas?

  • Chrome extension - Localstorage not working

    - by Bjarki Jonasson
    I'm writing a Chrome extension that uses a content script to modify certain parts of a website. The content script worked fine until I tried to add an options page to my extension. Right now I'm using an options.html file to save user preferences to localstorage, as you can see here: <html> <head><title>Options</title></head> <script type="text/javascript"> function save_options() { var select = document.getElementById("width"); var width = select.children[select.selectedIndex].value; localStorage["site_width"] = width; } function restore_options() { var fwidth = localStorage["site_width"]; if (!fwidth) { return; } var select = document.getElementById("width"); for (var i = 0; i < select.children.length; i++) { var child = select.children[i]; if (child.value == fwidth) { child.selected = "true"; break; } } } </script> <body onload="restore_options()"> Width: <select id="width"> <option value="100%">100%</option> <option value="90%">90%</option> <option value="80%">80%</option> <option value="70%">70%</option> </select> <br> <button onclick="save_options()">Save</button> </body> </html> I also have a background.html file to handle the communication between the content script and the localstorage: <html> <script type="text/javascript"> chrome.extension.onRequest.addListener(function(request, sender, sendResponse) { if (request.method == "siteWidth") sendResponse({status: localStorage["site_width"]}); else sendResponse({}); }); </script> </html> Then there's the actual content script that looks like this: var Width; chrome.extension.sendRequest({method: "siteWidth"}, function(response) { width = response.status; }); None of that code actually works. It looks solid enough to me but I'm not a very experienced programmer so I might be wrong. Could someone explain localstorage to me in layman's terms?
