  • PHP OOP Design Patterns: Should I Create two seperate classes for registration and form validation?

    So here's my problem: I have two types of registration, registration A and registration B, each will have some of the same fields and some different fields. I was going to create abstract class registration and both A and B would have their own classes that extend from registration. My question is, should I create a seperate Validation class with seperate A and B validation classes that extend? or is there a better pattern to use for something like this? Thanks

  • Creating a global variable on the fly. [PHP ENCRYPTION]

    Is there a way to dynamically create constant variables on the fly? The idea is that upon logging into the system, a user would be asked to upload a small text file that would be fread, and assigned to a var that would be accessible throughout the system. If this is possible, just to be clear, would this variable then only be accessible to that user and only while the session is alive? Security being the main concern here, would it be more practical to store the var in a session variable? The plan: Data in the db will be encrypted via mcrypt, and the key will be stored on USB thumbdrives. The user will insert the thumbdrive when going to access the system. Upon logging in, the app will prompt the user to upload the key. They will navigate to the thumbdrive and key. Via fopen and fread, the key will be assigned to a global var which will then allow access to encrypted data, and will be used to encrypt new info being entered to the db. When the user logs out, or session times out, the global var will become empty. Thanks!

  • Fastest way to represent a collection of bits in PHP?

    What is a good way to represent a collection of bits? I have a set of various on/off toggles (thousands of them) and need to store and retrieve their state. The naïve implementation would be an array of booleans, but I'm wondering if there's a better way (better in terms of access speed and/or memory requirements). I've found this BitArray implementation, but it's limited to 32 bits, which is not enough for this case.

    I know it's really a subjective question, but for best-practices (and readability), I can't seem to get a fix on the best way to format long strings of HTML. I typically do it like this: echo ' <div> <p>Content Inside</p> <div class="subbox"> <ul> <li>etc.</li> <li>etc.</li> <li>etc.</li> <li>etc.</li> </ul> </div> </div> '; But I still don't like the outcome, especially if this appears in the middle of a large block of code. It just feels messy.

  • How would I find all sets of N single-digit, non-repeating numbers that add up to a given sum in PHP

    Let's say I want to find all sets of 5 single-digit, non-repeating numbers that add up to 30... I'd end up with [9,8,7,5,1], [9,8,7,4,2], [9,8,6,4,3], [9,8,6,5,2], [9,7,6,5,3], and [8,7,6,5,4]. Each of those sets contains 5 non-repeating digits that add up to 30, the given sum. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even just a starting point for me to use would be awesome. I came up with one method, which seems like a long way of going about it: get all unique 5-digit numbers (12345, 12346, 12347, etc.), add up the digits, and see if it equals the given sum (e.g. 30). If it does, add it to the list of possible matching sets. I'm doing this for a personal project, which will help me in solving Kakuro puzzles without actually solving the whole thing at once. Yeah, it may be cheating, but it's... it's not THAT bad... :P

  • PHP: best practice. Do i save html tags in DB or store the html entity value?

    Hi Guys, I was wondering about which way i should do the following. I am using the tiny MCE wysiwyg editor which formats the users data with the right html tags. Now, i need to save this data entered into the editor into a database table. Should i encode the html tags to their corresponding entities when inserting into the DB, then when i get the data back from the table, not have the encode it for XSS purposes but i'd still have to use eval for the html tags to format the text. OR Do i save the html tags into the database, then when i get the data back from the database encode the html tags to their entities, but then as the tags will appear to the user, i'd have to use the eval function to actually format the data as it was entered. My thoughts are with the first option, i just wondered on what you guys thought. Thanks M

  • Cache AJAX requests

    I am sending AJAX GET-requests to a PHP application and would like to cache the request returns for later use. Since I am using GET this should be possible because different requests request different URLs (e.g. getHTML.php?page=2 and getHTML.php?page=5). What headers do I need to declare in the PHP-application to make the clients browser cache the request URL content in a proper way? Do I need to declare anything in the Javascript which handles the AJAX-request (I am using jQuery's $.ajax function which has a cache parameter)? How would I handle edits which change the content of e.g. getHTML.php?page=2 so that the client doesn't fall back to the cached version? Adding another parameter to the GET request e.g. getHTML.php?page=2&version=2 is not possible because the link to the requested URL is created automatically without any checking (which is preferably the way I want it to be). How will the browser react when I try to AJAX-request a cached request URL? Will the AJAX-request return success immediately? Thanks Willem

    Hey, I'm making an e-shop and to display the tree of categories and all the products with their multiple variations of prices I made like more than 150 mysql_query("SELECT ..."); queries on one page. (If I count the "while" loops). Is it too many, and if yes, can it have any negative effect? (ofc. it takes longer to load the data ..)     A very standard example of the problem that I am facing is that of a custom content say blog type. Now there is a view namely "My Blog Posts". In that view i take the argument as User:uid. Now, for the link part i simply write the code below: global $user; and send $user-uid as the argument to User:Uid. This give me link for "My Blog Posts" or the blog posts of the logged-in user What I want is a view like "His Blog Posts". So, if i visit the profile of some other user. There should be a tab in his profile "Blog Posts by Me". So for that i need to have the UID of the user whose profile I am visiting. So, how can I get this parameter from URL of his profile or somevhere else.

    public function getHelperInstance() { $user = new Helper(); $user->set($result['data']); return $user; } I am calling getHelper() class multiple times and if $user is not empty than am calling getHelperInstance(), now in my case getHelperInstance() always creates a new instance of Helper() class and so every time I call getHelperInstance() function am creating a new instance of Helper() so is there any way where can I can just create one instance of Helper() and use it multiple times instead of creating a new instance everytime.     I have very basic class: class Customer { protected $id; protected $customer; public function __construct($customer_id) { $this->id = $customer_id; return $this->set_customer(); } protected function set_customer() { $query = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM customer WHERE id = '$this->id'"); $this->customer = mysql_fetch_row($query); return $this->customer; } } $customer = new Customer($order->customer->id); print_r($customer); This is not doing what I want it to but I understand why... $customer returns a reference to the Customer Object... But what I want is the MySQL row array from the mysql_fetch_row() call... What am I missing?
