  • ASPX ajax form post help

    - by StealthRT
    Hey all, i have this peice of code that allows a user to select a jpg image, resize it and uploads it to the server driectory. The problem being is that it reloads the aspx page when it saves the image. My question is-is there any way to do this same thing but with ajax so that it doesn't leave the page after submitting it? I've done this pleanty of times with classic asp pages but never with a aspx page. Here is the code for the ASPX page: <%@ Page Trace="False" Language="vb" aspcompat="false" debug="true" validateRequest="false"%> <%@ Import Namespace=System.Drawing %> <%@ Import Namespace=System.Drawing.Imaging %> <%@ Import Namespace=System.Drawing.Text %> <%@ Import Namespace=System %> <%@ Import Namespace=System.IO %> <%@ Import Namespace=System.Web %> <%@ Import Namespace=System.ServiceProcess %> <%@ Import Namespace=Microsoft.Data.Odbc %> <%@ Import Namespace=System.Data.Odbc %> <%@ Import Namespace=MySql.Data.MySqlClient %> <%@ Import Namespace=MySql.Data %> <%@ Import Namespace=System.Drawing.Drawing2D %> <%@ Import Namespace="System.Data" %> <%@ Import Namespace="System.Data.ADO" %> <%@ Import Namespace=ADODB %> <SCRIPT LANGUAGE="VBScript" runat="server"> const Lx = 200 const Ly = 60 const upload_dir = "/img/avatar/" const upload_original = "tmpAvatar" const upload_thumb = "thumb" const upload_max_size = 256 dim fileExt dim newWidth, newHeight as integer dim l2 dim fileFld as HTTPPostedFile Dim originalimg As System.Drawing.Image dim msg dim upload_ok as boolean </script> <% Dim theID, theEmail, maleOrFemale theID = Request.QueryString("ID") theEmail = Request.QueryString("eMail") maleOrFemale = Request.QueryString("MF") randomize() upload_ok = false if lcase(Request.ServerVariables("REQUEST_METHOD"))="post" then fileFld = request.files(0) if fileFld.ContentLength > upload_max_size * 1024 then msg = "Sorry, the image must be less than " & upload_max_size & "Kb" else try fileExt = System.IO.Path.GetExtension(fileFld.FileName).ToLower() if fileExt = ".jpg" then originalImg = System.Drawing.Image.FromStream(fileFld.InputStream) if originalImg.Height > Ly then newWidth = Ly * (originalImg.Width / originalImg.Height) newHeight = Ly end if Dim thumb As New Bitmap(newWidth, newHeight) Dim gr_dest As Graphics = Graphics.FromImage(thumb) dim sb = new SolidBrush(System.Drawing.Color.White) gr_dest.SmoothingMode = System.Drawing.Drawing2D.SmoothingMode.HighQuality gr_dest.CompositingQuality = System.Drawing.Drawing2D.CompositingQuality.HighQuality gr_dest.FillRectangle(sb, 0, 0, thumb.Width, thumb.Height) gr_dest.DrawImage(originalImg, 0, 0, thumb.Width, thumb.Height) try originalImg.save(Server.MapPath(upload_dir & upload_original & fileExt), originalImg.rawformat) thumb.save(Server.MapPath(upload_dir & theID & fileExt), originalImg.rawformat) msg = "Uploaded " & fileFld.FileName & " to " & Server.MapPath(upload_dir & upload_original & fileExt) upload_ok = true File.Delete(Server.MapPath(upload_dir & upload_original & fileExt)) catch msg = "Sorry, there was a problem saving your avatar.   • How to solve JAVA menubar, layout and panel problem ?

    - by Berkay
    i'm not a java guy however i start implementing some security tools with java, in these days i'm creating a gui for my security tools : Here is the how my Gui looks: menuBar = new JMenuBar(); // construct menu bar // hash functions fileMenu = new JMenu("HASH FUNCTIONS"); // define file menu fileMenu.setMnemonic('H'); // shortcut hashes = new JMenuItem("Md5&Sha1"); // define file menu options hashes.setMnemonic('M'); hashes.addActionListener(this); fileMenu.add(hashes); menuBar.add(fileMenu); // add file menu to menu bar // symmetric encryption asMenu = new JMenu("SYMMETRIC ENCRYPTION"); // define format menu asMenu.setMnemonic('S'); // shortcut desItem = new JMenuItem("DES"); // define format menu options desItem.setMnemonic('D'); desItem.addActionListener(this); asMenu.add(desItem); ... ... menuBar.add(helpMenu); // add help menu to menu bar setJMenuBar(menuBar); // put menu bar on application textColor = Color.RED; when from the Menu desitem is selected, desvar is just for not showing the panel multiple times, it calls Panels () else if(e.getSource() == desItem && desvar ==1 ) { // make other panels unvisible. if(hashvar!=1) MyPanel.setVisible(false);//hash functions if(rsavar!=1) MyPanel3.setVisible(false);//rsa function if (dhvar!=1) MyPanel4.setVisible(false);//dh diffie hellman hashvar=1; rsavar=1; dhvar=1; ++desvar; desPanel=true; Panels(); } and in Panels() Method: if (hashPanel){ MyPanel.add("West",radioSHA1); MyPanel.add("West",radioMD5); MyPanel.add("Center", inputField); MyPanel.add("East",SubmitButton); MyPanel.add("South",resultHash); add(MyPanel); validate(); hashPanel=false; } i have many panels for example : -hash functions=mypanel1 , des=mypanel2, rsa functions= mypanel3 , dh= mypanel4 However in may other panals such as rsa function: i have to use some layout properties of the java:in this panel i selected to use gridbaglayout if (dhPanel){ System.out.println("rsa panel burda misin"); MyPanel3.add(pqLabel); MyPanel3.add(pLabel); MyPanel3.add(pTextArea); MyPanel3.add(qLabel); ... ... add(MyPanel3); generate_pqButton.addActionListener(this); calculate_nButton.addActionListener(this); ... ... GridBagLayout layout = new GridBagLayout(); GridBagConstraints gbc = new GridBagConstraints(); setLayout(layout); // x, y, w, h, wx, wy gbc.fill = GridBagConstraints.NONE; add (bit_length_label, gbc, 0, 0, 1, 1, 0, 10); add (p, gbc, 0, 1, 1, 1, 0, 10); add (g, gbc, 0, 2, 1, 1, 0, 10); add (a, gbc, 1, 3, 1, 1, 100, 10); add (x, gbc, 0, 4, 1, 1, 0, 10); add (gx, gbc, 0, 5, 1, 1, 0, 10); add (gxy, gbc, 0, 6, 1, 1, 0, 10); add (b, gbc, 1, 7, 1, 1, 100, 10); add (y, gbc, 0, 8, 1, 1, 0, 10); add (gy, gbc, 0, 9, 1, 1, 0, 10); add (gyx, gbc, 0, 10, 1, 1, 0, 10); add (sk, gbc, 1, 11, 1, 1, 100, 10); add (key, gbc, 0, 12, 1, 1, 0, 10); add (status, gbc, 1, 13, 1, 1, 100, 10); add (dhstart, gbc, 1, 14, 1, 1, 100, 10); add (bit_length_value, gbc, 1, 0, 1, 1, 100, 10); add (p_value, gbc, 1, 1, 1, 1, 100, 10); add (g_value, gbc, 1, 2, 1, 1, 100, 10); add (x_value, gbc, 1, 4, 1, 1, 100, 10); add (gx_value, gbc, 1, 5, 1, 1, 100, 10); add (gxy_value, gbc, 1, 6, 1, 1, 100, 10); add (y_value, gbc, 1, 8, 1, 1, 100, 10); add (gy_value, gbc, 1, 9, 1, 1, 100, 10); add (gyx_value, gbc, 1, 10, 1, 1, 100, 10); validate(); repaint(); rsaPanel=false; } Everthing seems okey however when i swith from one menu to another sometimes components are seen or apper in wrong places or mixed. where i'm doing wrong?

  • Android programming - How to acces [to draw on] XML view in main.xml layout, using code

    - by user556248
    Ok I'm a newbie at Android programming, have a hard time with the graphics part. Understand the beauty of creating layout in XML file, but lost how to access various elements, especially a View element to draw on it. See example of my layout main.xml here; <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/root" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/Title" android:text="App title" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textColor="#000000" android:background="#A0A0FF"/> </LinearLayout> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/PaperLayout" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="0dp" android:layout_weight="1" android:orientation="horizontal" android:focusable="true"> <View android:id="@+id/Paper" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> </LinearLayout> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <Button android:id="@+id/File" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_height="34dp" android:layout_alignParentTop="true" android:layout_centerInParent="true" android:clickable="true" android:textSize="10sp" android:text="File" /> <Button android:id="@+id/Edit" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_height="34dp" android:clickable="true" android:textSize="10sp" android:text="Edit" /> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout> As you can see I have a custom app title bar, then a View filling middle, and finally two buttons in bottom. Catching button events and responding to, for example changing title bar text and changing View background color works fine, but how the heck do I access and more importantly draw on the view defined in main.xml UPDATE: That for your suggestion, however besides that I need a View, not ImageView and you are missing a parameter on canvas.drawText and an ending bracket, it does not work. Now this is most likely because you missed the fact that I am a newbie and assuming I can fill in any blanks. Now first of all I do NOT understand why in my main.xml layout file I can create a View or even a SurfaceView element, which is what I need, but according to your solution I don't even specify the View like Anyways I edited my main.xml according to your solution, and slimmed it down a bit for simplicity; <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/root" android:orientation="vertical" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent"> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <TextView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/Title" android:text="App title" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textColor="#000000" android:background="#A0A0FF"/> </LinearLayout> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/PaperLayout" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="0dp" android:layout_weight="1" android:orientation="horizontal" android:focusable="true"> <com.example.MyApp.CustomView android:id="@+id/Paper" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> <com.example.colorbook.CustomView/> </LinearLayout> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content"> <Button android:id="@+id/File" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" android:layout_height="34dp" android:layout_alignParentTop="true" android:layout_centerInParent="true" android:clickable="true" android:textSize="10sp" android:text="File" /> </LinearLayout> </LinearLayout> In my main java file, MyApp.java, I added this after OnCreate; public class CustomView extends ImageView { @Override protected void onDraw(Canvas canvas) { super.onDraw(canvas); canvas.drawText("Your Text", 1, 1, null); } } But I get error on the "CustomView" part; "Implicit super constructor ImageView() is undefined for default constructor.Must define an explicit constructor" Eclipse suggests 3 quick fixes about adding constructor, but none helps, well it removes error but gives error on app when running. I hope somebody can break this down for me and provide a solution, and perhaps explain why I can't just create a View element in my main.xml layotu file and draw on it in code.

  • How to get rid of previous reflection when reflecting a UIImageView (with changing pictures)?

    - by epale
    Hi everyone, I have managed to use the reflection sample app from apple to create a reflection from a UIImageView. But the problem is that when I change the picture inside the UIImageView, the reflection from the previous displayed picture remains on the screen. The new reflection on the next picture then overlaps the previous reflection. How do I ensure that the previous reflection is removed when I change to the next picture? Thank you so much. I hope my question is not too basic. Here is the codes which i used so far: //reflection self.view.autoresizesSubviews = YES; self.view.userInteractionEnabled = YES; // create the reflection view CGRect reflectionRect = currentView.frame; // the reflection is a fraction of the size of the view being reflected reflectionRect.size.height = reflectionRect.size.height * kDefaultReflectionFraction; // and is offset to be at the bottom of the view being reflected reflectionRect = CGRectOffset(reflectionRect, 0, currentView.frame.size.height); reflectionView = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:reflectionRect]; // determine the size of the reflection to create NSUInteger reflectionHeight = currentView.bounds.size.height * kDefaultReflectionFraction; // create the reflection image, assign it to the UIImageView and add the image view to the containerView reflectionView.image = [self reflectedImage:currentView withHeight:reflectionHeight]; reflectionView.alpha = kDefaultReflectionOpacity; [self.view addSubview:reflectionView]; //reflection */ Then the codes below are used to form the reflection: CGImageRef CreateGradientImage(int pixelsWide, int pixelsHigh) { CGImageRef theCGImage = NULL; // gradient is always black-white and the mask must be in the gray colorspace CGColorSpaceRef colorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceGray(); // create the bitmap context CGContextRef gradientBitmapContext = CGBitmapContextCreate(nil, pixelsWide, pixelsHigh, 8, 0, colorSpace, kCGImageAlphaNone); // define the start and end grayscale values (with the alpha, even though // our bitmap context doesn't support alpha the gradient requires it) CGFloat colors[] = {0.0, 1.0, 1.0, 1.0}; // create the CGGradient and then release the gray color space CGGradientRef grayScaleGradient = CGGradientCreateWithColorComponents(colorSpace, colors, NULL, 2); CGColorSpaceRelease(colorSpace); // create the start and end points for the gradient vector (straight down) CGPoint gradientStartPoint = CGPointZero; CGPoint gradientEndPoint = CGPointMake(0, pixelsHigh); // draw the gradient into the gray bitmap context CGContextDrawLinearGradient(gradientBitmapContext, grayScaleGradient, gradientStartPoint, gradientEndPoint, kCGGradientDrawsAfterEndLocation); CGGradientRelease(grayScaleGradient); // convert the context into a CGImageRef and release the context theCGImage = CGBitmapContextCreateImage(gradientBitmapContext); CGContextRelease(gradientBitmapContext); // return the imageref containing the gradient return theCGImage; } CGContextRef MyCreateBitmapContext(int pixelsWide, int pixelsHigh) { CGColorSpaceRef colorSpace = CGColorSpaceCreateDeviceRGB(); // create the bitmap context CGContextRef bitmapContext = CGBitmapContextCreate (nil, pixelsWide, pixelsHigh, 8, 0, colorSpace, // this will give us an optimal BGRA format for the device: (kCGBitmapByteOrder32Little | kCGImageAlphaPremultipliedFirst)); CGColorSpaceRelease(colorSpace); return bitmapContext; } (UIImage *)reflectedImage:(UIImageView *)fromImage withHeight:(NSUInteger)height { if (!height) return nil; // create a bitmap graphics context the size of the image CGContextRef mainViewContentContext = MyCreateBitmapContext(fromImage.bounds.size.width, height); // offset the context - // This is necessary because, by default, the layer created by a view for caching its content is flipped. // But when you actually access the layer content and have it rendered it is inverted. Since we're only creating // a context the size of our reflection view (a fraction of the size of the main view) we have to translate the // context the delta in size, and render it. // CGFloat translateVertical= fromImage.bounds.size.height - height; CGContextTranslateCTM(mainViewContentContext, 0, -translateVertical); // render the layer into the bitmap context CALayer *layer = fromImage.layer; [layer renderInContext:mainViewContentContext]; // create CGImageRef of the main view bitmap content, and then release that bitmap context CGImageRef mainViewContentBitmapContext = CGBitmapContextCreateImage(mainViewContentContext); CGContextRelease(mainViewContentContext); // create a 2 bit CGImage containing a gradient that will be used for masking the // main view content to create the 'fade' of the reflection. The CGImageCreateWithMask // function will stretch the bitmap image as required, so we can create a 1 pixel wide gradient CGImageRef gradientMaskImage = CreateGradientImage(1, height); // create an image by masking the bitmap of the mainView content with the gradient view // then release the pre-masked content bitmap and the gradient bitmap CGImageRef reflectionImage = CGImageCreateWithMask(mainViewContentBitmapContext, gradientMaskImage); CGImageRelease(mainViewContentBitmapContext); CGImageRelease(gradientMaskImage); // convert the finished reflection image to a UIImage UIImage *theImage = [UIImage imageWithCGImage:reflectionImage]; // image is retained by the property setting above, so we can release the original CGImageRelease(reflectionImage); return theImage; } */

  • Append/Add Child Div (jQuery) for Messaging System

    - by Lord Varlin
    So, I'm having difficulty trying to append/add a child div to the parent div, and thought someone out here may know the best way for me to go about this. I have attached my code (without PHP right now, just hard coding text and stuff). But here is what I am trying to do: When a message is posted, you hit the "Reply Button" and a new div will appear underneath containing the reply form. Right now, here are the issues I know about and can't get around: The DIV is a class, so when I use jQuery to try to target the DIV it targets everything since it's no unique. The Reply Button is also a class, so it's not unique. Here is a video of it in action: http://tinypic.com/r/2luxwnr/7 HTML <body> <div id="content-container"> <div id="message-viewer"> <div class="roar"> <div class="roaractionpanel"> <div id="msg-business2"></div> <div class="roartime"><p class="roartime-text">3:26PM</p></div> </div> <div class="roarcontent"> <button type="submit" class="btn-reply"></button> <h5>Test Post</h5><br> <h6>Lord Varlin</h6><br> <h2>Test post... let's see.</h2> </div> </div> <div class="newreply"> <div class="newreplycontent"> <h1>This is where the fields for a new reply will go.</h1> </div> </div> <div class="roar"> <div class="roaractionpanel"> <div id="msg-business2"></div> <div class="roartime"><p class="roartime-text">3:26PM</p></div> </div> <div class="roarcontent"> <button type="submit" class="btn-reply"></button> <h5>Testing another</h5><br> <h6>Lord Varlin</h6><br> <h2>Hmm dee dumm...</h2> </div> </div> <div class="roarreply"> <div class="roarreply-marker"> <p class="roarreplytime-text">June 26th @ 4:42AM</p> </div> <div class="roarreplycontent"> <h9>Testing a reply. Hmmmm.</h9><br> <h8>Lord Varlin</h8> </div> </div> <div class="newreply"> <div class="newreplycontent"> <h1>This is where the fields for a new reply will go.</h1> </div> </div> <div class="roar"> <div class="roaractionpanel"> <div id="msg-business2"></div> <div class="roartime"><p class="roartime- text">3:26PM</p></div> </div> <div class="roarcontent"> <button type="submit" class="btn-reply"></button> <h5>Testing another</h5><br> <h6>Lord Varlin</h6><br> <h2>jQuery, work with me please.</h2> </div> </div> <div class="roarreply"> <div class="roarreply-marker"> <p class="roarreplytime-text">June 26th @ 4:42AM</p> </div> <div class="roarreplycontent"> <h9>Testing a reply. Hmmmm.</h9><br> <h8>Lord Varlin</h8> </div> </div> <div class="roarreply"> <div class="roarreply-marker"> <p class="roarreplytime-text">June 26th @ 4:42AM</p> </div> <div class="roarreplycontent"> <h9>Testing a reply. Any guidance would be awesome! :)

  • Drawing lines between views in a TableLayout

    - by RiThBo
    Firstly - sorry if you saw my other question which I deleted. My question was flawed. Here is a better version If I have two views, how do I draw a (straight) line between them when one of them is touched? The line needs to be dynamic so it can follow the finger until it reaches the second view where it "locks on". So, when view1 is touched a straight line is drawn which then follows the finger until it reaches view2. I created a LineView class that extends view, but I don't how to proceed. I read some tutorials but none show how to do this. I think I need to get the coordinates of both view, and then create a path which "updates" on MotionEvent. I can get the coordinates and the ids of the views I want to draw a line between, but the line that I try to draw between them either goes above it, or the line does not reach past the width and height of the view. Any advice/code/clarity would be much appreciated! Here is some code: My layout. I want to draw a line between two views contained in theTableLayout.# <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/activity_game_relative_layout" android:layout_width="match_parent" android:layout_height="match_parent" android:orientation="vertical" > <TableLayout android:layout_marginTop="35dp" android:layout_marginBottom="35dp" android:id="@+id/tableLayout1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_centerInParent="true" > <TableRow android:id="@+id/table_row_1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:padding="5dip" > <com.example.view.DotView android:id="@+id/game_dot_1" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginBottom="10dp" android:layout_marginLeft="10dp" android:layout_marginRight="10dp" android:layout_marginTop="10dp" /> <com.example.view.DotView android:id="@+id/game_dot_2" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginBottom="10dp" android:layout_marginLeft="10dp" android:layout_marginRight="10dp" android:layout_marginTop="10dp" /> <com.example.view.DotView android:id="@+id/game_dot_3" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginBottom="10dp" android:layout_marginLeft="10dp" android:layout_marginRight="10dp" android:layout_marginTop="10dp" /> </TableRow> <TableRow android:id="@+id/table_row_2" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:padding="5dip" > <com.example.view.DotView android:id="@+id/game_dot_7" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginBottom="10dp" android:layout_marginLeft="10dp" android:layout_marginRight="10dp" android:layout_marginTop="10dp" /> <com.example.view.DotView android:id="@+id/game_dot_8" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginBottom="10dp" android:layout_marginLeft="10dp" android:layout_marginRight="10dp" android:layout_marginTop="10dp" /> <com.example.dotte.DotView android:id="@+id/game_dot_9" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_marginBottom="10dp" android:layout_marginLeft="10dp" android:layout_marginRight="10dp" android:layout_marginTop="10dp" /> </TableRow> </TableLayout> </RelativeLayout> This is my LineView class. • DirectX 10 Primitive is not displayed

    I am trying to write my first DirectX 10 program that displays a triangle. Everything compiles fine, and the render function is called, since the background changes to black. However, the triangle I'm trying to draw with a triangle strip primitive is not displayed at all. • jQuery: Highlight element under mouse cursor?

    - by Ralph
    I'm trying to create an "element picker" in jQuery, like Firebug has. Basically, I want to highlight the element underneath the user's mouse. Here's what I've got so far, but it isn't working very well: $('*').mouseover(function (event) { var $this = $(this); $div.offset($this.offset()).width($this.width()).height($this.height()); return false; }); var $div = $('<div>') .css({ 'background-color': 'rgba(255,0,0,.5)', 'position': 'absolute', 'z-index': '65535' }) .appendTo('body'); Basically, I'm injecting a div into the DOM that has a semi-transparent background. Then I listen for the mouseover event on every element, then move the div so that it covers that element. Right now, this just makes the whole page go red as soon as you move your mouse over the page. How can I get this to work nicer? Edit: Pretty sure the problem is that as soon as my mouse touches the page, the body gets selected, and then as I move my mouse around, none of the moments get passed through the highligher because its overtop of everything. Firebug Digging through Firebug source code, I found this: drawBoxModel: function(el) { // avoid error when the element is not attached a document if (!el || !el.parentNode) return; var box = Firebug.browser.getElementBox(el); var windowSize = Firebug.browser.getWindowSize(); var scrollPosition = Firebug.browser.getWindowScrollPosition(); // element may be occluded by the chrome, when in frame mode var offsetHeight = Firebug.chrome.type == "frame" ? FirebugChrome.height : 0; // if element box is not inside the viewport, don't draw the box model if (box.top > scrollPosition.top + windowSize.height - offsetHeight || box.left > scrollPosition.left + windowSize.width || scrollPosition.top > box.top + box.height || scrollPosition.left > box.left + box.width ) return; var top = box.top; var left = box.left; var height = box.height; var width = box.width; var margin = Firebug.browser.getMeasurementBox(el, "margin"); var padding = Firebug.browser.getMeasurementBox(el, "padding"); var border = Firebug.browser.getMeasurementBox(el, "border"); boxModelStyle.top = top - margin.top + "px"; boxModelStyle.left = left - margin.left + "px"; boxModelStyle.height = height + margin.top + margin.bottom + "px"; boxModelStyle.width = width + margin.left + margin.right + "px"; boxBorderStyle.top = margin.top + "px"; boxBorderStyle.left = margin.left + "px"; boxBorderStyle.height = height + "px"; boxBorderStyle.width = width + "px"; boxPaddingStyle.top = margin.top + border.top + "px"; boxPaddingStyle.left = margin.left + border.left + "px"; boxPaddingStyle.height = height - border.top - border.bottom + "px"; boxPaddingStyle.width = width - border.left - border.right + "px"; boxContentStyle.top = margin.top + border.top + padding.top + "px"; boxContentStyle.left = margin.left + border.left + padding.left + "px"; boxContentStyle.height = height - border.top - padding.top - padding.bottom - border.bottom + "px"; boxContentStyle.width = width - border.left - padding.left - padding.right - border.right + "px"; if (!boxModelVisible) this.showBoxModel(); }, hideBoxModel: function() { if (!boxModelVisible) return; offlineFragment.appendChild(boxModel); boxModelVisible = false; }, showBoxModel: function() { if (boxModelVisible) return; if (outlineVisible) this.hideOutline(); Firebug.browser.document.getElementsByTagName("body")[0].appendChild(boxModel); boxModelVisible = true; } Looks like they're using a standard div + css to draw it..... just have to figure out how they're handling the events now... (this file is 28K lines long) There's also this snippet, which I guess retrieves the appropriate object.... although I can't figure out how. They're looking for a class "objectLink-element"... and I have no idea what this "repObject" is. onMouseMove: function(event) { var target = event.srcElement || event.target; var object = getAncestorByClass(target, "objectLink-element"); object = object ? object.repObject : null; if(object && instanceOf(object, "Element") && object.nodeType == 1) { if(object != lastHighlightedObject) { Firebug.Inspector.drawBoxModel(object); object = lastHighlightedObject; } } else Firebug.Inspector.hideBoxModel(); }, I'm thinking that maybe when the mousemove or mouseover event fires for the highlighter node I can somehow pass it along instead? Maybe to node it's covering...?

  • Java MVC - How to divide a done text game into MVC?

    - by Zopyrus
    Been sitting here for hours now trying to figure this out, so a bit sympathy for this large question. :) The Goal: I simply want to divide my done code into MVC (Model View Controller) parts. I have the game logics done and text based - the code works fine. The Problem: Well, I want to implement this code into MVC, but where do explain for the MODEL that it should use text-based? Because the VIEW is only for the layout (graphically) correct? I am having a REALLY hard time figuring out where to begin at all. Any pointers would be so nice! Here is my game logics code: import mind.*; import javax.swing.*; import java.util.*; import java.lang.*; import java.awt.*; public class Drive { String[] mellan; boolean gameEnd, checkempty, checkempty2, enemy, enemy2; String gr,rd,tom; int digits; public Drive() { // Gamepieces in textform gr="G"; rd="R"; tom=" "; mellan = new String[7]; String[] begin = {gr,gr,gr,tom,rd,rd,rd}; String[] end = {rd,rd,rd,tom,gr,gr,gr}; //input Scanner in = new Scanner(System.in); mellan=begin; gameEnd=false; while (gameEnd == false) { for(int i=0; i<mellan.length; i++) { System.out.print(mellan[i]); } System.out.print(" Choose 0-6: "); digits = in.nextInt(); move(); checkWin(); } } void move() { //BOOLEAN for gameruls!!! checkempty = digits<6 && mellan[digits+1]==tom; checkempty2 = digits>0 && mellan[digits-1]==tom; enemy = (mellan[digits]==gr && mellan[digits+1]==rd && mellan[digits+2]==tom); enemy2 = (mellan[digits]==rd && mellan[digits-1]==gr && mellan[digits-2]==tom); if(checkempty) { mellan[digits+1]=mellan[digits]; mellan[digits]=tom; } else if (checkempty2) { mellan[digits-1]=mellan[digits]; mellan[digits]=tom; } else if (enemy) { mellan[digits+2]=mellan[digits]; mellan[digits]=tom; } else if (enemy2) { mellan[digits-2]=mellan[digits]; mellan[digits]=tom; } } void checkWin() { String[] end = {rd,rd,rd,tom,gr,gr,gr}; for (int i=0; i<mellan.length; i++){ } if (Arrays.equals(mellan,end)) { for (int j=0; j<mellan.length; j++) { System.out.print(mellan[j]); } displayWin(); } } void displayWin() { gameEnd = true; System.out.println("\nNicely Done!"); return; } // Kör Drive! public static void main(String args[]) { new Drive(); } } Here is how I defined my DriveView thus far: (just trying to make one button to work) import mind.*; import javax.swing.*; import java.util.*; import java.lang.*; import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; public class DriveView extends JFrame { JButton ruta1 = new JButton("Green"); JButton ruta2 = new JButton("Green"); JButton rutatom = new JButton(""); JButton ruta6 = new JButton("Red"); private DriveModel m_model; public DriveView(DriveModel model) { m_model = model; //Layout for View JPanel myPanel = new JPanel(); myPanel.setLayout(new FlowLayout()); myPanel.add(ruta1); myPanel.add(ruta2); myPanel.add(rutatom); myPanel.add(ruta6); this.setContentPane(myPanel); this.pack(); this.setTitle("Drive"); this.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE); } void addMouseListener(ActionListener mol) { ruta2.addActionListener(mol); } } And DriveController which gives me error at compile import mind.*; import java.awt.*; import java.awt.event.*; import javax.swing.*; import java.lang.*; public class DriveController { private DriveModel m_model; private DriveView m_view; public DriveController(DriveModel model, DriveView view) { m_model = model; m_view = view; view.addMouseListener(new MouseListener()); } class MouseListener implements ActionListener { public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) { String mening; mening = e.getActionCommand(); if (mening.equals("Green")) { setForeground(Color.red); } } } }

  • How to refresh DataGrid and DropDown on main page after hiding modal popup

    - by James
    Hi, I am adding records to a database from a modal popup. After hiding the modal popup, the page has not been refreshed even though I have Rebound the controls. I have reviewed a few postings on the web about this but the solution still evades me. I have attached my code after removing some of the extra detail... It seems I need to cause a postback but I don't know what needs to be changed. Some posts have talked about the extender being misplaced. Anyway, thank you James <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="Head" Runat="Server"> <div class="divBorder"> <asp:DataGrid id="dgrSessionFolders" runat="server" BorderWidth="2px" BorderStyle="Solid" BorderColor="#C0C0FF" Font-Names="Arial" Font-Bold="True" Font-Size="8pt" GridLines="Horizontal" AutoGenerateColumns="False" PageSize="9999" AllowPaging="False" OnItemCommand="dgrSessionFolders_Command" OnItemDataBound="CheckSessionFolderStatus" HorizontalAlign="Left" ForeColor="Blue" ShowFooter="True" CellPadding="2" OnSortCommand="dgrSessionFolders_Sort" AllowSorting="True"> </asp:DataGrid> </div> &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <asp:Label ID="Errormsg" runat="server" ForeColor="#CC0000"></asp:Label> <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server" RenderMode="Inline" ChildrenAsTriggers="false" UpdateMode="Conditional"> <Triggers> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnEditTopic" /> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnAdd" /> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnUpdate" /> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnDelete" /> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnClear" /> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnAddTopic" /> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnUpdateTopic" /> <asp:AsyncPostBackTrigger ControlID="btnDeleteTopic" /> </Triggers> <ContentTemplate> <asp:panel id="pnl" runat="server" HorizontalAlign="Center" Height="48px" Width="100%" > &nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <asp:ImageButton ID="btnEditTopic" runat="server" AlternateText="Edit Topic" ImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Common/images/BtnEditTopic.jpg" Height="28px"> </asp:ImageButton> <cc1:ModalPopupExtender ID="btnEditTopic_ModalPopupExtender" runat="server" BackgroundCssClass="modalBackground" DropShadow="true" Enabled="true" PopupControlID="pnlEditTopic" TargetControlID="btnEditTopicHidden" CancelControlID="btnEditTopicClose"> </cc1:ModalPopupExtender> <asp:ImageButton ID="btnAdd" runat="server" AlternateText="Add Folder" ImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Common/images/BtnAddFolder.jpg" Height="28px"> </asp:ImageButton> <asp:ImageButton ID="btnUpdate" runat="server" AlternateText="Update Folder" ImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Common/images/BtnUpdateFolder.jpg" Height="28px"> </asp:ImageButton> <asp:ImageButton ID="btnDelete" runat="server" AlternateText="Delete Folder" ImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Common/images/BtnDeleteFolder.jpg" Height="28px"> </asp:ImageButton> <asp:ImageButton ID="BtnClear" runat="server" AlternateText="Clear Screen Input Fields" ImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Common/images/BtnAddMode.jpg" Height="28px"> </asp:ImageButton> <asp:Button ID="btnEditTopicHidden" runat="server" Enabled="false" Text="" Style="visibility: hidden" /> </asp:panel> <asp:Panel ID="pnlEditTopic" runat="server" CssClass="modalPopupEditTopic" Style="display: none;" > <table cellspacing="0" class="borderTable0" width="100%" style=""> <tr> <td colspan="10" class="Subhdr" align="center" style="width:100%"> <asp:label id="lblTopicScreenHdr" Cssclass="ScreenHdr" runat="server">Topic Maintenance</asp:label> </td> </tr> <tr> <td colspan="6"> <asp:Label ID="TopicPopErrorMsg" runat="server" ForeColor="#CC0000">&nbsp;</asp:Label> </td> </tr> <tr style="height:4px"> <td colspan="6" align="center"> <asp:ImageButton ID="btnAddTopic" runat="server" AlternateText="Add Topic" ImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Common/images/BtnApply.jpg" Height="28px"> </asp:ImageButton> <asp:ImageButton ID="btnUpdateTopic" runat="server" AlternateText="Update Topic" ImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Common/images/BtnApply.jpg" Height="28px"> </asp:ImageButton> <asp:ImageButton ID="btnDeleteTopic" runat="server" AlternateText="Delete Topic" ImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Common/images/BtnDelete.jpg" Height="28px"> </asp:ImageButton> <asp:ImageButton ID="btnEditTopicClose" runat="server" AlternateText="Close Edit Topic Popup" ImageUrl="~/App_Themes/Common/images/BtnCancel.jpg" Height="28px"> </asp:ImageButton> </td> </tr> </table> </asp:Panel> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> Private Sub btnAddTopic_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnAddTopic.Click 'Add the Topic table entry AddTopic() 'Display an informational message Errormsg.Text = "The Topic has been successfully added, thank you!   • C# MVC: User Password Reset Controller: Issues with email addresses as usernames

    - by 109221793
    Hi guys, I have written the code below for resetting users passwords (am using the aspnet membership api) in an C# MVC application, and tested successfully on a sample tutorial application (MVC Music Store). Skip to the end if you wish to read problem description first. InactiveUsers View (Partial View) <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<System.Web.Security.MembershipUserCollection>" %> <table class="normal" style="width: 100%; background-color: White;"> <tr> <th>User Name</th> <th>Last Activity date</th> <th>Locked Out</th> </tr> <%foreach (MembershipUser user in Model){ %> <tr> <td><%: Html.RouteLink(user.UserName, "AdminPassword", new { username = user.UserName }) %></td> <td><%: user.LastActivityDate %></td> <td><%: user.IsLockedOut %></td> </tr> <% }%> </table> InactiveUsers Controller public ActionResult InactiveUsers() { var users = Membership.GetAllUsers(); return View(users); } changeUserPassword GET and POST Controllers public ActionResult changeUserPassword(string username) { ViewData["username"] = username; return View(); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult changeUserPassword(ChangePasswordModel model, FormCollection values) { string username = values["username"]; string password = values["password"]; string confirmPassword = values["confirmPassword"]; MembershipUser mu = Membership.GetUser(username); if (password == confirmPassword) { if (mu.ChangePassword(mu.ResetPassword(), password)) { return RedirectToAction("Index", "ControlPanel"); } else { ModelState.AddModelError("", "The current password does not meet requirements"); } } return View(); } I also modified the Global.asax.cs file to cater for my route in the InactiveUsers partial: // Added in 10/01/11 RouteTable.Routes.MapRoute( "AdminPassword", // routename "ControlPanel/changeUserPassword/{username}", new { controller = "ControlPanel", action = "changeUserPassword", username = UrlParameter.Optional } ); // END Now, when I tested on the MVC Music Store, all of my usernames were just words, e.g. Administrator, User, etc. However now I am applying this code to a situation in my workplace and it's not working out quite as planned. The usernames used in my workplace are actually email addresses and I think this is what is causing the problem. When I click on the RouteLink in the partial InactiveUsers view, it should bring me to the reset password page with a url that looks like this: http://localhost:83/ControlPanel/changeUserPassword/[email protected], HOWEVER, what happens when I click on the RouteLink is an error is thrown to say that the view changeUserPassword cannot be found, and the URL looks like this: http://localhost:83/ControlPanel/changeUserPassword/example1%40gmail.com - See how the '@' symbol gets messed up? I've also debugged through the code, and in my GET changeUserPassword, the username is populating correctly: [email protected], so I'm thinking it's just the URL that's messing it up? If I type in the URL manually, the changeUserPassword view displays, however the password reset function does not work. An 'Object reference not set to an instance of an object' exception is thrown at the if (mu.ChangePassword(mu.ResetPassword(), password)) line. I think if I could solve the first issue (URL '@' symbol problem) it might help me along with my second issue. Any help would be appreciated :) Stack Trace - as requested Source Error: An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. • Fast multi-window rendering with C#

    - by seb
    I've been searching and testing different kind of rendering libraries for C# days for many weeks now. So far I haven't found a single library that works well on multi-windowed rendering setups. The requirement is to be able to run the program on 12+ monitor setups (financial charting) without latencies on a fast computer. Each window needs to update multiple times every second. While doing this CPU needs to do lots of intensive and time critical tasks so some of the burden has to be shifted to GPUs. That's where hardware rendering steps in, in another words DirectX or OpenGL. I have tried GDI+ with windows forms and figured it's way too slow for my needs. I have tried OpenGL via OpenTK (on windows forms control) which seemed decently quick (I still have some tests to run on it) but painfully difficult to get working properly (hard to find/program good text rendering libraries). Recently I tried DirectX9, DirectX10 and Direct2D with Windows forms via SharpDX. I tried a separate device for each window and a single device/multiple swap chains approaches. All of these resulted in very poor performance on multiple windows. For example if I set target FPS to 20 and open 4 full screen windows on different monitors the whole operating system starts lagging very badly. Rendering is simply clearing the screen to black, no primitives rendered. CPU usage on this test was about 0% and GPU usage about 10%, I don't understand what is the bottleneck here? My development computer is very fast, i7 2700k, AMD HD7900, 16GB ram so the tests should definitely run on this one. In comparison I did some DirectX9 tests on C++/Win32 API one device/multiple swap chains and I could open 100 windows spread all over the 4-monitor workspace (with 3d teapot rotating on them) and still had perfectly responsible operating system (fps was dropping of course on the rendering windows quite badly to around 5 which is what I would expect running 100 simultaneous renderings). Does anyone know any good ways to do multi-windowed rendering on C# or am I forced to re-write my program in C++ to get that performance (major pain)? I guess I'm giving OpenGL another shot before I go the C++ route... I'll report any findings here. Test methods for reference: For C# DirectX one-device multiple swapchain test I used the method from this excellent answer: Display Different images per monitor directX 10 Direct3D10 version: I created the d3d10device and DXGIFactory like this: D3DDev = new SharpDX.Direct3D10.Device(SharpDX.Direct3D10.DriverType.Hardware, SharpDX.Direct3D10.DeviceCreationFlags.None); DXGIFac = new SharpDX.DXGI.Factory(); Then initialized the rendering windows like this: var scd = new SwapChainDescription(); scd.BufferCount = 1; scd.ModeDescription = new ModeDescription(control.Width, control.Height, new Rational(60, 1), Format.R8G8B8A8_UNorm); scd.IsWindowed = true; scd.OutputHandle = control.Handle; scd.SampleDescription = new SampleDescription(1, 0); scd.SwapEffect = SwapEffect.Discard; scd.Usage = Usage.RenderTargetOutput; SC = new SwapChain(Parent.DXGIFac, Parent.D3DDev, scd); var backBuffer = Texture2D.FromSwapChain<Texture2D>(SC, 0); _rt = new RenderTargetView(Parent.D3DDev, backBuffer); Drawing command executed on each rendering iteration is simply: Parent.D3DDev.ClearRenderTargetView(_rt, new Color4(0, 0, 0, 0)); SC.Present(0, SharpDX.DXGI.PresentFlags.None); DirectX9 version is very similar: Device initialization: PresentParameters par = new PresentParameters(); par.PresentationInterval = PresentInterval.Immediate; par.Windowed = true; par.SwapEffect = SharpDX.Direct3D9.SwapEffect.Discard; par.PresentationInterval = PresentInterval.Immediate; par.AutoDepthStencilFormat = SharpDX.Direct3D9.Format.D16; par.EnableAutoDepthStencil = true; par.BackBufferFormat = SharpDX.Direct3D9.Format.X8R8G8B8; // firsthandle is the handle of first rendering window D3DDev = new SharpDX.Direct3D9.Device(new Direct3D(), 0, DeviceType.Hardware, firsthandle, CreateFlags.SoftwareVertexProcessing, par); Rendering window initialization: if (parent.D3DDev.SwapChainCount == 0) { SC = parent.D3DDev.GetSwapChain(0); } else { PresentParameters pp = new PresentParameters(); pp.Windowed = true; pp.SwapEffect = SharpDX.Direct3D9.SwapEffect.Discard; pp.BackBufferFormat = SharpDX.Direct3D9.Format.X8R8G8B8; pp.EnableAutoDepthStencil = true; pp.AutoDepthStencilFormat = SharpDX.Direct3D9.Format.D16; pp.PresentationInterval = PresentInterval.Immediate; SC = new SharpDX.Direct3D9.SwapChain(parent.D3DDev, pp); } Code for drawing loop: SharpDX.Direct3D9.Surface bb = SC.GetBackBuffer(0); Parent.D3DDev.SetRenderTarget(0, bb); Parent.D3DDev.Clear(ClearFlags.Target, Color.Black, 1f, 0); SC.Present(Present.None, new SharpDX.Rectangle(), new SharpDX.Rectangle(), HWND); bb.Dispose(); C++ DirectX9/Win32 API test with multiple swapchains and one device code is here: http://pastebin.com/tjnRvATJ It's a modified version from Kevin Harris's nice example code.

  • Listview selects mutliple items when clicked

    - by xlph
    I'm trying to make a task manager, and I only have one problem. I have a listview that gets inflated. All the elements in the listview are correct. The problem is that when I select an item, the listview will select another item away. I've heard listviews repopulate the list as it scrolls down to save memory. I think this may be some sort of problem. Here is a picture of the problem. If i had more apps loaded, then it would continue to select multiple at once. Here is the code of my adapter and activity and XML associated public class TaskAdapter extends BaseAdapter{ private Context mContext; private List<TaskInfo> mListAppInfo; private PackageManager mPack; public TaskAdapter(Context c, List<TaskInfo> list, PackageManager pack) { mContext = c; mListAppInfo = list; mPack = pack; } @Override public int getCount() { return mListAppInfo.size(); } @Override public Object getItem(int position) { return mListAppInfo.get(position); } @Override public long getItemId(int position) { return position; } @Override public View getView(final int position, View convertView, ViewGroup parent) { TaskInfo entry = mListAppInfo.get(position); if (convertView == null) { LayoutInflater inflater = LayoutInflater.from(mContext); //System.out.println("Setting LayoutInflater in TaskAdapter " +mContext +" " +R.layout.taskinfo +" " +R.id.tmbox); convertView = inflater.inflate(R.layout.taskinfo,null); } ImageView ivIcon = (ImageView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.tmImage); ivIcon.setImageDrawable(entry.getIcon()); TextView tvName = (TextView)convertView.findViewById(R.id.tmbox); tvName.setText(entry.getName()); convertView.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { final CheckBox checkBox = (CheckBox)v.findViewById(R.id.tmbox); if(v.isSelected()) { System.out.println("Listview not selected "); //CK.get(arg2).setChecked(false); checkBox.setChecked(false); v.setSelected(false); } else { System.out.println("Listview selected "); //CK.get(arg2).setChecked(true); checkBox.setChecked(true); v.setSelected(true); } } }); return convertView; public class TaskManager extends Activity implements Runnable { private ProgressDialog pd; private TextView ram; private String s; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.taskpage); setTitleColor(Color.YELLOW); Thread thread = new Thread(this); thread.start(); } @Override public void run() { //System.out.println("In Taskmanager Run() Thread"); final PackageManager pm = getPackageManager(); final ListView box = (ListView) findViewById(R.id.cBoxSpace); final List<TaskInfo> CK = populate(box, pm); runOnUiThread(new Runnable() { @Override public void run() { ram.setText(s); box.setAdapter(new TaskAdapter(TaskManager.this, CK, pm)); //System.out.println("In Taskmanager runnable Run()"); endChecked(CK); } }); handler.sendEmptyMessage(0); } Taskinfo.xml <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:orientation="horizontal" android:gravity="center_horizontal"> <ImageView android:id="@+id/tmImage" android:layout_width="48dp" android:layout_height="48dp" android:scaleType="centerCrop" android:adjustViewBounds="false" android:focusable="false" /> <CheckBox android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:id="@+id/tmbox" android:lines="2"/> </LinearLayout> Taskpage.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical"> <ListView android:id="@+id/cBoxSpace" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="400dp" android:orientation="vertical"/> <TextView android:id="@+id/RAM" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:textSize="18sp" /> <Button android:id="@+id/endButton" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="End Selected Tasks" /> </LinearLayout> Any ideas for what reason mutliple items are selected with a single click would be GREATLY appreciated. I've been messing around with different implementations and listeners and listadapters but to no avail.

  • Authoritative sources about Database vs. Flatfile decision

    - by FastAl
    <tldr>looking for a reference to a book or other undeniably authoritative source that gives reasons when you should choose a database vs. when you should choose other storage methods. I have provided an un-authoritative list of reasons about 2/3 of the way down this post.</tldr> I have a situation at my company where a database is being used where it would be better to use another solution (in this case, an auto-generated piece of source code that contains a static lookup table, searched by binary sort). Normally, a database would be an OK solution even though the problem does not require a database, e.g, none of the elements of ACID are needed, as it is read-only data, updated about every 3-5 years (also requiring other sourcecode changes), and fits in memory, and can be keyed into via binary search (a tad faster than db, but speed is not an issue). The problem is that this code runs on our enterprise server, but is shared with several PC platforms (some disconnected, some use a central DB, etc.), and parts of it are managed by multiple programming units, parts by the DBAs, parts even by mathematicians in another department, etc. These hit their own platform’s version of their databases (containing their own copy of the static data). What happens is that every implementation, every little change, something different goes wrong. There are many other issues as well. I can’t even use a flatfile, because one mode of running on our enterprise server does not have permission to read files (only databases, and of course, its own literal storage, e.g., in-source table). Of course, other parts of the system use databases in proper, less obscure manners; there is no problem with those parts. So why don’t we just change it? I don’t have administrative ability to force a change. But I’m affected because sometimes I have to help fix the problems, but mostly because it causes outages and tons of extra IT time by other programmers and d*mmit that makes me mad! The reason neither management, nor the designers of the system, can see the problem is that they propose a solution that won’t work: increase communication; implement more safeguards and standards; etc. But every time, in a different part of the already-pared-down but still multi-step processes, a few different diligent, hard-working, top performing IT personnel make a unique subtle error that causes it to fail, sometimes after the last round of testing! And in general these are not single-person failures, but understandable miscommunications. And communication at our company is actually better than most. People just don't think that's the case because they haven't dug into the matter. However, I have it on very good word from somebody with extensive formal study of sociology and psychology that the relatively small amount of less-than-proper database usage in this gigantic cross-platform multi-source, multi-language project is bureaucratically un-maintainable. Impossible. No chance. At least with Human Beings in the loop, and it can’t be automated. In addition, the management and developers who could change this, though intelligent and capable, don’t understand the rigidity of this ‘how humans are’ issue, and are not convincible on the matter. The reason putting the static data in sourcecode will solve the problem is, although the solution is less sexy than a database, it would function with no technical drawbacks; and since the sharing of sourcecode already works very well, you basically erase any database-related effort from this section of the project, along with all the drawbacks of it that are causing problems. OK, that’s the background, for the curious. I won’t be able to convince management that this is an unfixable sociological problem, and that the real solution is coding around these limits of human nature, just as you would code around a bug in a 3rd party component that you can’t change. I am aware of many reasons, and posts on this site giving reasons for one over the other; I’m not looking for lists of reasons like these (although you can add a comment if I've miss a doozy): WHY USE A DATABASE? instead of flatfile/other DB vs. file: if you need... • Wiring up JavaScript handlers after a Partial Postback in ASP.NET

    - by Richard
    I am trying to use LinkButtons with the DefaultButton property of the ASP.NET Panel in an UpdatePanel. I have read and used the various other answers that are around describing the wiring up of the click event so that a full postback is not done instead of a partial postback. When the page loads, I wire up the .click function of the LinkButton so that the DefaultButton property of the ASP.NET panel will work. This all works fine, until you bring an UpdatePanel into the mix. With an UpdatePanel, if there is a partial postback, the script to wire up the .click function is not called in the partial postback, and hitting enter reverts to causing a full submit of the form rather than triggering the LinkButton. How can I cause javascript to be executed after a partial postback to re-wire up the .click function of the LinkButton? I have produced a sample page which shows the problem. There are two alerts showing 1) When the code to hook up the .click function is being called, and 2) When the .click function has been called (this only happens when you hit enter in the textbox after the event has been wired up). To test this code, type something in the textbox and hit Enter. The text will be copied to the label control, but "Wiring up Event Click" alert will not be shown. Add another letter, hit enter again, and you'll get a full postback without the text being copied to the label control (as the LinkButton wasn't called). Because that was a full postback, the Wiring Up Event Click event will be called again, and the form will work properly the next time again. This is being done with ASP.NET 3.5. Test Case Code: <%@ Page Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.UI.Page" Theme="" EnableTheming="false" AutoEventWireup="true" %> <script runat="server"> void cmdComplete_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { lblOutput.Text = "Complete Pressed: " + txtInput.Text; } void cmdFirstButton_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { lblOutput.Text = "First Button Pressed"; } protected override void OnLoad(EventArgs e) { HookupButton(cmdComplete); } void HookupButton(LinkButton button) { // Use the click event of the LinkButton to trigger the postback (this is used by the .click code below) button.OnClientClick = Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(button, String.Empty); // Wire up the .click event of the button to call the onclick function, and prevent a form submit string clickString = string.Format(@" alert('Wiring up click event'); document.getElementById('{0}').click = function() {{ alert('Default button pressed'); document.getElementById('{0}').onclick(); }};", button.ClientID, Page.ClientScript.GetPostBackEventReference(button, "")); Page.ClientScript.RegisterStartupScript(button.GetType(), "click_hookup_" + button.ClientID, clickString, true); } </script> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html> <head> <title>DefaultButton/LinkButton Testing</title> <style type="text/css"> a.Button { line-height: 2em; padding: 5px; border: solid 1px #CCC; background-color: #EEE; } </style> </head> <body> <h1> DefaultButton/LinkButton Testing</h1> <form runat="server"> <asp:ScriptManager runat="server" /> <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <div style="position: relative"> <fieldset> <legend>Output</legend> <asp:Label runat="server" ID="lblOutput" /> </fieldset> <asp:Button runat="server" Text="First Button" ID="cmdFirstButton" OnClick="cmdFirstButton_Click" UseSubmitBehavior="false" /> <asp:Panel ID="Panel1" runat="server" DefaultButton="cmdComplete"> <label> Enter Text:</label> <asp:TextBox runat="server" ID="txtInput" /> <asp:LinkButton runat="server" CssClass="Button" ID="cmdComplete" OnClick="cmdComplete_Click" Text="Complete" /> </asp:Panel> </div> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> <asp:Button runat="server" ID="cmdFullPostback" Text="Full Postback" /> </form> </body> </html>

  • Cascading updates with business key equality: Hibernate best practices?

    - by Traphicone
    I'm new to Hibernate, and while there are literally tons of examples to look at, there seems to be so much flexibility here that it's sometimes very hard to narrow all the options down the best way of doing things. I've been working on a project for a little while now, and despite reading through a lot of books, articles, and forums, I'm still left with a bit of a head scratcher. Any veteran advice would be very appreciated. So, I have a model involving two classes with a one-to-many relationship from parent to child. Each class has a surrogate primary key and a uniquely constrained composite business key. <class name="Container"> <id name="id" type="java.lang.Long"> <generator class="identity"/> </id> <properties name="containerBusinessKey" unique="true" update="false"> <property name="name" not-null="true"/> <property name="owner" not-null="true"/> </properties> <set name="items" inverse="true" cascade="all-delete-orphan"> <key column="container" not-null="true"/> <one-to-many class="Item"/> </set> </class> <class name="Item"> <id name="id" type="java.lang.Long"> <generator class="identity"/> </id> <properties name="itemBusinessKey" unique="true" update="false"> <property name="type" not-null="true"/> <property name="color" not-null="true"/> </properties> <many-to-one name="container" not-null="true" update="false" class="Container"/> </class> The beans behind these mappings are as boring as you can possibly imagine--nothing fancy going on. With that in mind, consider the following code: Container c = new Container("Things", "Me"); c.addItem(new Item("String", "Blue")); c.addItem(new Item("Wax", "Red")); Transaction t = session.beginTransaction(); session.saveOrUpdate(c); t.commit(); Everything works fine the first time, and both the Container and its Items are persisted. If the above code block is executed again, however, Hibernate throws a ConstraintViolationException--duplicate values for the "name" and "owner" columns. Because the new Container instance has a null identifier, Hibernate assumes it is an unsaved transient instance. This is expected but not desired. Since the persistent and transient Container objects have the same business key values, what we really want is to issue an update. It is easy enough to convince Hibernate that our new Container instance is the same as our old one. With a quick query we can get the identifier of the Container we'd like to update, and set our transient object's identifier to match. Container c = new Container("Things", "Me"); c.addItem(new Item("String", "Blue")); c.addItem(new Item("Wax", "Red")); Query query = session.createSQLQuery("SELECT id FROM Container" + "WHERE name = ? AND owner = ?"); query.setString(0, c.getName()); query.setString(1, c.getOwner()); BigInteger id = (BigInteger)query.uniqueResult(); if (id != null) { c.setId(id.longValue()); } Transaction t = session.beginTransaction(); session.saveOrUpdate(c); t.commit(); This almost satisfies Hibernate, but because the one-to-many relationship from Container to Item cascades, the same ConstraintViolationException is also thrown for the child Item objects. My question is: what is the best practice in this situation? It is highly recommended to use surrogate primary keys, and it is also recommended to use business key equality. When you put these two recommendations in to practice together, however, two of the greatest conveniences of Hibernate--saveOrUpdate and cascading operations--seem to be rendered almost completely useless. As I see it, I have only two options: Manually fetch and set the identifier for each object in the mapping. This clearly works, but for even a moderately sized schema this is a lot of extra work which it seems Hibernate could easily be doing. Write a custom interceptor to fetch and set object identifiers on each operation. This looks cleaner than the first option but is rather heavy-handed, and it seems wrong to me that you should be expected to write a plug-in which overrides Hibernate's default behavior for a mapping which follows the recommended design. Is there a better way? Am I making completely the wrong assumptions? I'm hoping that I'm just missing something. Thanks.

  • how do you make a "concurrent queue safe" lazy loader (singleton manager) in objective-c

    - by Rich
    Hi, I made this class that turns any object into a singleton, but I know that it's not "concurrent queue safe." Could someone please explain to me how to do this, or better yet, show me the code. To be clear I want to know how to use this with operation queues and dispatch queues (NSOperationQueue and Grand Central Dispatch) on iOS. Thanks in advance, Rich EDIT: I had an idea for how to do it. If someone could confirm it for me I'll do it and post the code. The idea is that proxies make queues all on their own. So if I make a mutable proxy (like Apple does in key-value coding/observing) for any object that it's supposed to return, and always return the same proxy for the same object/identifier pair (using the same kind of lazy loading technique as I used to create the singletons), the proxies would automatically queue up the any messages to the singletons, and make it totally thread safe. IMHO this seems like a lot of work to do, so I don't want to do it if it's not gonna work, or if it's gonna slow my apps down to a crawl. Here's my non-thread safe code: RMSingletonCollector.h // // RMSingletonCollector.h // RMSingletonCollector // // Created by Rich Meade-Miller on 2/11/11. // Copyright 2011 Rich Meade-Miller. • How do I prove I should put a table of values in source code instead of a database table?

• Uneditable file and Unreadable(for further processing) file( WHY? ) after processing it through C++

    - by mgj
    Hi...:) This might look to be a very long question to you I understand, but trust me on this its not long. I am not able to identify why after processing this text is not being able to be read and edited. I tried using the ord() function in python to check if the text contains any Unicode characters( non ascii characters) apart from the ascii ones.. I found quite a number of them. I have a strong feeling that this could be due to the original text itself( The INPUT ). Input-File: Just copy paste it into a file "acle5v1.txt" The objective of this code below is to check for upper case characters and to convert it to lower case and also to remove all punctuations so that these words are taken for further processing for word alignment #include<iostrea> #include<fstream> #include<ctype.h> #include<cstring> using namespace std; ifstream fin2("acle5v1.txt"); ofstream fin3("acle5v1_op.txt"); ofstream fin4("chkcharadded.txt"); ofstream fin5("chkcharntadded.txt"); ofstream fin6("chkprintchar.txt"); ofstream fin7("chknonasci.txt"); ofstream fin8("nonprinchar.txt"); int main() { char ch,ch1; fin2.seekg(0); fin3.seekp(0); int flag = 0; while(!fin2.eof()) { ch1=ch; fin2.get(ch); if (isprint(ch))// if the character is printable flag = 1; if(flag) { fin6<<"Printable character:\t"<<ch<<"\t"<<(int)ch<<endl; flag = 0; } else { fin8<<"Non printable character caught:\t"<<ch<<"\t"<<int(ch)<<endl; } if( isalnum(ch) || ch == '@' || ch == ' ' )// checks for alpha numeric characters { fin4<<"char added: "<<ch<<"\tits ascii value: "<<int(ch)<<endl; if(isupper(ch)) { //tolower(ch); fin3<<(char)tolower(ch); } else { fin3<<ch; } } else if( ( ch=='\t' || ch=='.' || ch==',' || ch=='#' || ch=='?' || ch=='!' || ch=='"' || ch != ';' || ch != ':') && ch1 != ' ' ) { fin3<<' '; } else if( (ch=='\t' || ch=='.' || ch==',' || ch=='#' || ch=='?' || ch=='!' || ch=='"' || ch != ';' || ch != ':') && ch1 == ' ' ) { //fin3<<" '; } else if( !(int(ch)>=0 && int(ch)<=127) ) { fin5<<"Char of ascii within range not added: "<<ch<<"\tits ascii value: "<<int(ch)<<endl; } else { fin7<<"Non ascii character caught(could be a -ve value also)\t"<<ch<<int(ch)<<endl; } } return 0; } I have a similar code as the above written in python which gives me an otput which is again not readable and not editable The code in python looks like this: #!/usr/bin/python # -*- coding: UTF-8 -*- import sys input_file=sys.argv[1] output_file=sys.argv[2] list1=[] f=open(input_file) for line in f: line=line.strip() #line=line.rstrip('.') line=line.replace('.','') line=line.replace(',','') line=line.replace('#','') line=line.replace('?','') line=line.replace('!','') line=line.replace('"','') line=line.replace('?','') line=line.replace('|','') line = line.lower() list1.append(line) f.close() f1=open(output_file,'w') f1.write(' '.join(list1)) f1.close() the file takes ip and op at runtime.. as: python punc_remover.py acle5v1.txt acle5v1_op.txt The output of this file is in "acle5v1_op.txt" now after processing this particular output file is needed for further processing. This particular file "aclee5v1_op.txt" is the UNREADABLE Aand UNEDITABLE File that I am not being able to use for further processing. I need this for Word alignment in NLP. I tried readin this output with the following program #include<iostream> #include<fstream> using namespace std; ifstream fin1("acle5v1_op.txt"); ofstream fout1("chckread_acle5v1_op.txt"); ofstream fout2("chcknotread_acle5v1_op.txt"); int main() { char ch; int flag = 0; long int r = 0; long int nr = 0; while(!(fin1)) { fin1.get(ch); if(ch) { flag = 1; } if(flag) { fout1<<ch; flag = 0; r++; } else { fout2<<"Char not been able to be read from source file\n"; nr++; } } cout<<"Number of characters able to be read: "<<r; cout<<endl<<"Number of characters not been able to be read: "<<nr; return 0; } which prints the character if its readable and if not it doesn't print them but I observed the output of both the file is blank thus I could draw a conclusion that this file "acle5v1_op.txt" is UNREADABLE AND UNEDITABLE. Could you please help me on how to deal with this problem.. To tell you a bit about the statistics wrt the original input file "acle5v1.txt" file it has around 3441 lines in it and around 3 million characters in it. Keeping in mind the number of characters in the file you editor might/might not be able to manage to open the file.. I was able to open the file in gedit of Fedora 10 which I am currently using .. This is just to notify you that opening with a particular editor was not actually an issue at least in my case... Can I use scripting languages like Python and Perl to deal with this problem if Yes how? could please be specific on that regard as I am a novice to Perl and Python. Or could you please tell me how do I solve this problem using C++ itself.. Thank you...:) I am really looking forward to some help or guidance on how to go about this problem....

  • http server implentation, the page does not show properly

    - by none
    well, as i am doing a small project of coding an http server. the code is at http://code.google.com/p/reactor/ the current puzzle is when asked to parse a page with java script and css. As an http server it just sends a page (copied from another website) and it parsed inproperly. when a simple html page is been parse , by my firefox, it shows ok, however when parsing a more complex page(css+javascript) the page is all wired like this : ???? ?????
