  • Is this data set in third normal form?

    - by user2980802
UNF: (Customer-name, Customer-id, Customer-address, (Unit-price, Order-id, Quantity, Product-id, Delivery-date) (Supplier-name, Supplier-id, Supplier-Address) 3NF: CUSTOMER (Customer-id, Order-id, Customer-name, Customer-address) ORDER (Order-id, Customer-id) ORDER/PRODUCT (Order-id, Quantity, Product-id) PRODUCT (Order-id, Product-id, Delivery-date, Supplier-id, Unit-price,) SUPPLIER (Supplier-name, Supplier-id, Supplier-Address, Product-id) Basically, the UNF is the un-normalised form. The information should have EXACTLY five tables, it's a hint we were given. The tables listed are the definite table names. We were told to make assumptions based on this information: Customer Invoice is generated from customer orders (Order & Order/Product entities) Supplier Order is generated for products that are low in stock (Product entity) Assumptions A customer can place many orders but an order is placed by only one customer An order can be for many products and a product can be ordered many times A product is supplied by only one supplier, a supplier may supply many products This is one of my modules in university and my lecturer is all but useful, I'm really struggling so any help is really appreciated.

  • highlighting data values in a sql result set

    - by potatoe
I can think of a number of ways to do this in PHP or even JavaScript, but I'm wondering if there's a SQL-based technique I'm overlooking. I have a database table, let's say 20 fields X 10 rows. I want to display the entire table on an web page, so I'd do something like SELCT * FROM data_table;, and then format the result set using HTML table tags. However, I'd also like to highlight values in the table based on whether they are the maximum or minimum value in their column. For example, I'd add bold tags around the max in each column. A resulting table might look something like this, with bold tags shown: id | field1 | field2 | field3 | ... 0 | 5 | 2 | <b>7</b> | ... 1 | 3 | <b>8</b> | 6 | ... 2 | <b>9</b> | 5 | 1 | ... ... I could do a separate SELECT with an ORDER BY for each field and then interpret the results, but that seems like a lot of extra DB access. My alternative right now is to just fetch the whole table, and then sort/search for the highlight values using PHP. Is there a better way?

  • confusing java data structures

    - by London
Maybe the title is not appropriate but I couldn't think of any other at this moment. My question is what is the difference between LinkedList and ArrayList or HashMap and THashMap . Is there a tree structure already for Java(ex:AVL,Black-white) or balanced or not balanced(linked list). If this kind of question is not appropriate for SO please let me know I will delete it. thank you

  • Rails: saving a string on an object -- syntax problem?

    - by Veep
Hey there, I am trying to write a simple function to clean a filename string and update the object. When I save a test string it works, but when I try to save the string variable I've created, nothing happens. But when I return the string, the output seems to be correct! What am I missing? def clean_filename clean_name = filename clean_name.gsub! /^.*(\\|\/)/, '' clean_name.gsub! /[^A-Za-z0-9\.\-]/, '_' clean_name.gsub!(/\_+/, ' ') #update_attribute(:filename, "test") #<-- correctly sets filename to test #update_attribute(:filename, clean_name) #<-- no effect????? WTF #return clean_name <-- seems to returns the correct string end Thank you very much.

  • best way to store list of websites on iphone app

    - by Jonathan
By best I mean most efficient. So don't go on about subjectiveness. I have a list of websites and I want to store the list on the iphone locally, there must be an URL, title and a small image (like 32x32 max image size). I don't think I should be using CoreData for this. Should I be using a plist?

  • Any idea why this query always returns duplicate items?

    - by Kardo
I want to get all Images not used by current ItemID. The this subquery but it also always returns duplicate Images: EDITED select Images.ImageID, Images.ItemStatus, Images.UserName, Images.Url, Image_Item.ItemID, Image_Item.ItemID from Images left join (select ImageID, ItemID, MAX(DateCreated) x from Image_Item where ItemID != '5a0077fe-cf86-434d-9f3b-7ff3030a1b6e' group by ImageID, ItemID having count(*) = 1) image_item on Images.imageid = image_item.imageid where ItemID is not null I guess the problem is with the subquery which I can't avoid duplicate rows: select ImageID, ItemID, MAX(DateCreated) x from Image_Item where ItemID != '5a0077fe-cf86-434d-9f3b-7ff3030a1b6e' group by ImageID, ItemID having count(*) = 1 Result: F2EECBDC-963D-42A7-90B1-4F82F89A64C7 0578AC61-3C32-4A1D-812C-60A09A661E71 F2EECBDC-963D-42A7-90B1-4F82F89A64C7 9A4EC913-5AD6-4F9E-AF6D-CF4455D81C10 42BC8B1A-7430-4915-9CDA-C907CBC76D6A CB298EB9-A105-4797-985E-A370013B684F 16371C34-B861-477C-9A7C-DEB27C8F333D 44E6349B-7EBF-4C7E-B3B0-1C6E2F19992C Table: Images ImageID uniqueidentifier UserName nvarchar(100) DateCreated smalldatetime Url nvarchar(250) ItemStatus char(1) Table: Image_Item ImageID uniqueidentifier ItemID uniqueidentifier UserName nvarchar(100) ItemStatus char(1) DateCreated smalldatetime Any kind help is highly appreciated.

  • GIT sharing configuration data

    - by user569980
Hi, I just started using GIT for my versioning and I want to program some tools that work on top of it. Here is my question: Which information in the .git/config is shared to a remote repo? Is any? Is there a special way to push information to that repo? The reason I am asking is that I would like to add a "unique stamp" to the config of a repo. Also the remote repo and everybody pulling that project should have the stamp. Is that possible? If not, is there any other way to identify a repository? Having a .git folder, I want to decide whether this git repo is the same as a previously specified remote repo (the same means created by pulling the remote repo, changes are okay, of course).

  • How to find missing alpha values in sets of data within same table in SQL

    - by Jeff
I have a table of many values where one column has the WO Number, and another column has the Resource ID. I need to be able to find all the WO numbers that do not have a resource value of "RW". Here is an example of the typical information. I need to be able to know that work order 5678 does not have an "RW" Resource ID. WO Number - Resource ID 1234 - IN 1234 - WE 1234 - AS 1234 - RW 5678 - PR 5678 - WE 5678 - IN 5678 - AS

  • What would a compress method do in a hash table?

    - by Bradley Oesch
For an assignment I have to write the code for a generic Hash Table. In an example Put method, there are two lines: int hash = key.hashCode(); // get the hashcode of the key int index = compress(hash); // compress it to an index I was of the understanding that the hashCode method used the key to return an index, and you would place the key/value pair in the array at that index. But here we "compress" the hash code to get the index. What does this method do? How does it "compress" the hash code? Is it necessary and/or preferred?

  • MySQL, how to use returned data?

    - by aejo
Well, I know there is a funciton mysql_fetch_array() and we can use it like this: while ($row = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { echo $row['name'] . "<br />"; } But is there any other way? For example, if there is only one element that can be returned, and not an array. Thanks)

  • Passing data to notification page

    - by FRKT
I'm not sure what the best way of populating a notification page is. I've been using sessions to populate it with information, but this falls short if the user is blocking cookies. I've considered passing it in HTTP GET variables, but I'm unsure whether it's a good alternative since its length is limited by some browsers. Which method do you prefer?

  • Creating a series of vectors from a vector

    - by bluetongue
I have a simple two vector dataframe (length=30) that looks something like this: > mDF Param1 w.IL.L 1 AuZgFw 0.5 2 AuZfFw 2 3 AuZgVw 74.3 4 AuZfVw 20.52 5 AuTgIL 80.9 6 AuTfIL 193.3 7 AuCgFL 0.2 8 ... I'd like to use each of the rows to form 30 single value numeric vectors with the name of the vector taken from mDF$Param1, so that: > AuZgFw [1] 0.5 etc I've tried melting and casting, but I suspect there may be an easier way?? Thanks in advance BT

  • Using sed with html data

    - by StackedCrooked
I'm having some problems using sed in combination with html. The following sample illustrates the problem: HTML="<html><body>ENTRY</body><html>" TABLE="<table></table>" echo $HTML | sed -e s/ENTRY/$TABLE/ This outputs: sed: -e expression #1, char 18: unknown option to `s' If I leave out the / from $TABLE so that it becomes <table><table> it works ok. Any ideas on how to fix it?

  • jquery to create array from form data

    - by AndrewStevens
    I've been wrestling with this problem for a couple hours now. Essentially, what I need to do is take the following or similar HTML: <div id="excpdivs"> <div class="excpdiv" id="excpdiv0"> Date: <input name="excp[0][date]"> Open: <input name="excp[0][open]"> Close: <input name="excp[0][close]"> </div> <div class="excpdiv" id="expdiv1"> Date: <input name="excp[1][date]"> Open: <input name="excp[1][open]"> Close: <input name="excp[1][close]"> </div> and get an array similar to the following to a php script: Array ( [0] => Array ( [date] => 2012-09-15 [open] => 3:00 [close] => 5:00 ) [1] => Array ( [date] => 2012-09-16 [open] => 2:00 [close] => 5:00 ) ) My main problem is getting the values from the input elements. My latest attempt is the following: var results = []; $(".excpdiv").each(function(){ var item = {}; var inpts = $(this).find("input"); item.date = $(inpts.get(0)).val(); item.open = $(inpts.get(1)).val(); item.close = $(inpts.get(2)).val(); results.push(item); }); Am I on the right track or am I hopelessly lost?

  • Facebook data collection ethical issues

    - by the_great_monkey
If I have a Facebook app, and my users agree to allow my app to access their information, photos, friends, etc, is it ethical to grab their information when they log in, and then saving it in memory so that the next time he goes to my app, it can load faster? If so, what about when the user logged off? Is the right thing to do to is to delete all the cached information and photos that the user provided? Has Facebook got any way to detect that we're doing this (saving their information, etc)?
