I have installed ATI driver 11.8 when I trying this game. And then I'm trying to install the driver from menu "System Administration Additional Driver, it doesn't work. I cannot log in, in the screen appear only the text for log in. And then I uninstall it trough recovery mode. And then I download ATI driver 11.11 from official ATI/AMD website, and then I restart my computer and my screen appearing only text again. I'm using Ubuntu (Ultimate Edition) 11.04. • Algorithm to increase odds of matching when randomly selecting

    - by Bryan
I am building a mobile game loosely based on dual n-back http://brainworkshop.sourceforge.net/tutorial.html Now with the game I have 9 squares (numbered 1 through 9) and 9 letters (A through K) In the current code, I randomly select a square (e.g. 3) and a letter (e.g. C), then repeat the random selection for the next turn. For 1-back, I test whether either, neither or both match the previous turn. The problem with my current code is I get very few matches - I can go through many turns without having either match. How can I increase the match frequency, or alternatively decrease the randomness so a match is more likely? I am not looking for specific code (but pseudo-code would be fine) - just more an approach to increase match frequency.

  • Weird keyboard problem

    - by Sebastian
I just installed Ubuntu on an Acer Extensa 5620 laptop. The keyboard works fine except when I want to type things that require me to use Ctrl+Alt+(any key). I can't use Ctrl+Alt+(any key) shortcuts in any program, but I can open terminal with Ctrl+Alt+T. Ctrl+(any key) and Alt+(any key) shortcuts seems to work though. Also I just installed the game Heroes of Newerth and neither Alt or Ctrl keys seem to work in the game. Any answer would be appreciated!

Many people might not be aware of the topic or what the article is in fact focusing upon. Basically the term referred in the above topic is related to internet tactics. It refers to search engine optimization which is a very well-known skill nowadays. Well moving on towards the definition, it is the process of improving the ranking of a particular website on a search engine. It is known as an internet market strategy in which first of all an analysis of working of search engines is carried out.

  • Easy QueryBuilder - A User-Friendly Ad-Hoc Advanced Search Solution

Constructing an easy and powerful QueryBuilder interface becomes more important for complex data grid filtering and accurate reporting services. In this article, I'll discuss how to build a query search engine using ASP.NET AJAX and dynamic SQL. The main goal is to provide an interactive interface to allow users select query attributes, operators, attribute values, and T-SQL operators so that the data context query list can be easily composed and a search engine is invoked.Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Ubuntu Software Center is crashing while trying to install psychonauts

    - by GonzoDark
I am having a problem installing Tim Schafers epic platform video game Psychonauts trough the Ubuntu Software Center. I have bought the game on http://www.humblebundle.com/ and I have used the new redeem option introduced in this bundle: "redeem your bundle on the Ubuntu Software Center." When I have downloaded approximately 2.1 GB of Psychonauts then Ubuntu Software Center starts to repeatedly crash and pop-up with a new crash report dialog every few seconds (before previous ones are closed and that will crash the computer after a few min, unless I stop the download). I also have a file-size bug, where Ubuntu Software Center tells me that I have downloaded 880,2 MB out of 133,3 MB I use the new Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Ubuntu Software Center version 5.2.2.2 (©2009-2011 Canonical <--- That is also a bug, should be 2012 I guess) I hope someone can help me.

  • C Programming arrays, I dont understand how I would go about making this program, If anyone can just guide me through the basic outline please :) [on hold]

    - by Rashmi Kohli
Problem The temperature of a car engine has been measured, from real-world experiments, as shown in the table and graph below: Time (min) Temperature (oC) 0 20 1 36 2 61 3 68 4 77 5 110 Use linear regression to find the engine’s temperature at 1.5 minutes, 4.3 minutes, and any other time specified by the user. Background In engineering, many times we measure several data points in an experiment, but then we need to predict a value that we have not measured which lies between two measured values, such as the problem statement above. If the relation between the measured parameters seems to be roughly linear, then we can use linear regression to find the relationship between those parameters. In the graph of the problem statement above, the relation seems to be roughly linear. Hence, we can apply linear regression to the above problem. Assuming y {y0, y1, …yn-1} has a linear relation with x {x0, x1, … xn-1}, we can say that: y = mx+b where m and b can be found with linear regression as follows: For the problem in this lab, using linear regression gives us the following line (in blue) compared to the measured curve (in red). As you can see, there is usually a difference between the measured values and the estimated (predicted) values. What linear regression does is to minimize those differences and still give us a straight line (blue). Other methods, such as non-linear regression, are also possible to achieve higher accuracy and better curve fitting. Requirements Your program should first print the table of the temperatures similar to the way it’s printed in the problem statement. It should then calculate the temperature at minute 1.5 and 4.3 and show the answers to the user. Next, it should prompt the user to enter a time in minutes (or -1 to quit), and after reading the user’s specified time it should give the value of the engine’s temperature at that time. It should then go back to the prompt. Hints •Use a one dimensional array to store the temperature values given in the problem statement. •Use functions to separate tasks such as calculating m, calculating b, calculating the temperature at a given time, printing the prompt, etc. You can then give your algorithm as well as you pseudo code per function, as opposed to one large algorithm diagram or one large sequence of pseudo code.

  • How to tell Wine that I have changed CD when mounting them virtually on a netbook with no CD drive?

    - by glenatron
I have been trying to catch up with some of the old games from way back that are about right for my little Aspire One netbook through Wine. I've run into a problem Baldurs Gate, however, which is that I can't change CD. Obviously, I don't have a CD drive, so I have copied the CD content onto an external hard drive and I'm using a mount command with the loopback option to persuade the game that the CD is present. This allowed installation to work correctly and works fine to run it and to play the content from the first CD. However, when the game asks for CD2, I'm stuck. If I mount the CD2 ISO to the CD Rom path it doesn't appear to respond, whether or not I have first unmounted CD1. When I ask Wine to show me the CD drive it contains the right data, but it seems as though whatever signal would be interpreted by Windows to mean the CD drive has been closed isn't being sent. Does anyone know of a way to do this, or am I barking up the wrong tree and there is something else I need to do?

  • Runescape - Ubuntu 12.04 - Jaggex cache folder

    - by user214179
does anyone here know how to hide the jaggexcache folder, jagexappletviewer file and jagex_cl_runescape_LIVE file from the home folder? The problem is this, everytime you play runescape (in both windows or linux), it creates those files and folders. The problem is that on windows, you can hide them and everything is fine. On linux, if you add ( /.) to the folder or file to hide it, when you play runescape, those files and folders are again created, because they cannot be found. As far as I know, the game is Java based (needs java iced tea plug in and java 7), so is there any way of changing the directory where the game puts all those files? like home/documents instead of just /home thanks!

  • Make your Silverlight applications Speak to you with Microsoft Translator

One of the announcements that happened during the MIX10 conference was the availability of the V2 of the Microsoft Translator API. This is the engine that powers the translation behind http://www.windowslivetranslator.com and some other Bing-related properties as well. A lot of research has gone into the engine from Microsoft Research and others. Language translation isnt an easy task especially taking into consideration cultural significance of words, etc. I have heard that the most challenging...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Do You Think That SEO Really Effects Your Business?

Before discussing about the importance of SEO we should know what it is actually. The main importance of the SEO is that it generally makes the website appear higher or earlier in the list of the search results which attracts plenty of visitors from search engines. • Games with user-supplied artifical intelligence (AI) engines?

    - by RoboShop
I remember Microsoft used to have this AI game for the .NET framework which allowed you to program a species and this species could be introduced to an "ecosystem" full of species that other people had programmed and they could interact with each other, etc. I can't remember what it was called, but I remembered thinking it was a pretty good idea. Are there any other similiar sites like that, which allows you to design some sort of AI engine and pit it against other programmer's creations? It could be an ecosystem type thing, or it could be a card or board game.

  • Working on the search

The one thing I've always like working on and about this site, is the full text search engine and spider. Bascially it goes out and spiders all the major development blogs on the web, and then indexes them. The engine uses Lucene for it's index. Lucene is another open source project and it works really fast. Currently the directory is indexed, and the rss feeds are underway. We're talking about a lot of content, but once it's done you'll be able to pull podcasts, and videos as they get posted to...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Hosted News Carousel

    - by user19240
I'm trying to add a news carousel on my OneHub site. I know there are quite a few plugins that I can use, but I'm looking for a ready-to-use hosted solution where people can log-on and manage the content, and I can simply include as an iFrame widget on our OneHub site. We would prefer to use Expression Engine, since we're using this on some of our other websites. It looks like Expression Engine + JQuery Cycle Rotator might be an option, not sure how easily I can get this onto OneHub though... WordPress has a carousel plugin as well that I'll explore. Anyhow, while I'm trying out these options, I figured I would put a question out there for any thoughts or advice, other solutions, etc. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Alan

  • "Never do in code what you can get the SQL server to do well for you" - Is this a recipe for a bad design?

    - by PhonicUK
It's an idea I've heard repeated in a handful of places. Some more or less acknowledging that once trying to solve a problem purely in SQL exceeds a certain level of complexity you should indeed be handling it in code. The logic behind the idea is that for the large majority of cases, the database engine will do a better job at finding the most efficient way of completing your task than you could in code. Especially when it comes to things like making the results conditional on operations performed on the data. Arguably with modern engines effectively JIT'ing + caching the compiled version of your query it'd make sense on the surface. The question is whether or not leveraging your database engine in this way is inherently bad design practice (and why). The lines become blurred further when all the logic exists inside the database and you're just hitting it via an ORM.

  • Do you think that GAE alone is enough to justify learning Python over Ruby?

    - by Cue
Considering the fact that you don't have to get involved in setting up/buying a server or even buying a domain, do you think that fact alone is enough to choose one over the other? I don't necessarily want to work on Google App Engine, I just find it convenient when it comes to hosting/environment/etc. and wondering if that's a good enough reason to learn python. In any case, I'm not looking for a debate between python and ruby but more on Google App Engine and whether its value is enough to dictate the language you should learn.
