• Is it possible to use Indy 10.5.8.0 with Delphi XE?

  The case I'm trying to update the INDY to the latest version for my Delphi XE (Update 1), so I downloaded the latest INDY10 file (Indy_4545.zip) from indy.fulgan.com/ZIP. The packages compiles successfully and I can now even see the new version 10.5.8.0 on the about box dialog, but after a IDE restart I got a message saying: No se encuentra el punto de entrada del procedimiento @Idhttp@TIdCustomHTTP@GetRequestHeaders$qqrv en la biblioteca de vínculos dinámicos IndyProtocols150.bpl. My free translation to English: Entry point not found for procedure @Idhttp@TIdCustomHTTP@GetRequestHeaders$qqrv not found on the dynamic link library IndyProtocols150.bpl. After a quick comparision of old and new IdHTTP.pas I found a lot of changes on the TIdCustomHttp class, including the rename of some methods GetResponseHeaders to GetResponse GetRequestHeaders to GetRequest SetRequestHeaders to SetRequest Along with changed public/published method firms in this and other and classes interfaces. After the update, I got a lot of packages failing to load, including dclcxPivotGridOLAPD15.bpl, which in turns depends on dclDataSnapServer150.bpl which encounters the missing method on the bpl. AFAIK I can't recompile the dclDataSnapServer150.bpl (and maybe other failing packages, I just stopped here). DataSnap and DevExpress support on the IDE is a must for my day to day so The questions Is there a safe pre-established path to update to the newest INDY for Delphi XE? If not, am I on the safe side by just parching the source code by creating the old public methods and call the new ones on the implementation part? am I missing something else or am I really stuck with INDY 10.5.7 until the next Delphi minor/major release?

• ASP.NET Ajax - Asynch request has separate session???

  We are writing a search application that saves the search criteria to session state and executes the search inside of an asp.net updatepanel. Sometimes when we execute multiple searches successively the 2nd or 3rd search will sometimes return results from the first set of search criteria. Example: our first search we do a look up on "John Smith" - John Smith results are displayed. The second search we do a look up on "Bob Jones" - John Smith results are displayed. We save all of the search criteria in session state as I said, and read it from session state inside of the ajax request to format the DB query. When we put break points in VS everything behaves as normal, but without them we get the original search criteria and results. My guess is because they are saved in session, that the ajax request somehow gets its own session and saves the criteria to that, and then retrieves the criteria from that session every time, but the non-async stuff is able to see when the criteria is modified and saves the changes to state accordingly, but because they are from two different sessions there is a disparity in what is saved and read. EDIT::: To elaborate more, there was a suggestion of appending the search criteria to the query string which normally is good practice and I agree thats how it should be but following our requirements I don't see it as being viable. They want it so the user fills out the input controls hits search and there is no page reload, the only thing they see is a progress indicator on the page, and they still have the ability to navigate and use other features on the current page. If I were to add criteria to the query string I would have to do another request causing the whole page to load, which depending on the search criteria can take a really long time. This is why we are using an ajax call to perform the search and why we aren't causing another full page request..... I hope this clarifies the situation.

• Using HAML with custom filters

  Hi everybody. I feel quite excited about HAML and CoffeeScript and am working on tutorial showing how to use them in non-Rails environment. So, haml has easy to use command-line utility haml input.haml output.html. And, what is great, there exist a project (one of many forks: https://github.com/aussiegeek/coffee-haml-filter) aimed at providing custom filter that converts CoffeeScript into JS inside of HAML files. Unfortunately (or am I missing something?) haml doesn't allow specifying custom filters on the command line or with some configuration file. I (not being a Ruby fan or even knowing it enough) managed to solve it (based on some clever suggestion somewhere on SO) with this helper script: haml.rb require 'rubygems' require 'active_support/core_ext/object/blank' require 'haml' require 'haml/filters/coffee' template = ARGV.length > 0 ? I can, of course, create a polling script in python that will watch the directory changes and call this .rb script, but it looks like a dirty solution.

• jQuery changing fields to substring of related field

  Another jquery calculation question. There will be a variable number of items, based on a php query. Also, I feel there must be a way to not need to write a numbered function for each item on the list. I know I am a bit clueless here, but javascript of any kind is not my thing.

• Debugging Key-Value-Observing overflow.

  I wrote an audio player. Recently I started refactored some of the communication flow to make it fully MVC-compliant. Now it crashes, which in itself is not surprising. However, it crashes after a few seconds inside the Cocoa key-value-observing routines with a HUGE stack trace of recursive calls to NSKeyValueNotifyObserver. Obviously, it is recursively observing a value and thus overflowing the NSArray that holds pending notifications. According to the stack trace, the program loops from observeValueForKeyPath to setMyValue and back. Here is the according code: - (void)observeValueForKeyPath:(NSString *)keyPath ofObject:(id)object change:(NSDictionary *)change context:(void *)context { if ([keyPath isEqual:@"myValue"] && object == myModel && [self myValue] != [myModel myValue]) { [self setMyValue:[myModel myValue]; } } and - (void)setMyValue:(float)value { myValue = value; [myModel setMyValue:value]; } myModel changes myValue every 0.05 seconds and if I log the calls to these two functions, they get called only every 0.05 seconds just as they should be, so this is working properly.   Greetings all, Please refer to image at : http://i48.tinypic.com/316qb78.jpg We are developing an application to extract cell edges from MRC images from electron microscope. MRC file format stores volumetric pixel data (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voxel) and we simply use 3D char array(char***) to load and store data (gray scale values) from a MRC file. As shown in the image,there are 3 viewers to display XY,YZ and ZX planes respectively. Scrollbars on the top of the viewers use to change the image slice along an axis. Here is the steps we do when user changes the scrollbar position. 1) get the new scrollbar value.(this is the selected slice) 2) for the relavant plane (YZ,XY or ZX), generate (char* slice;) array for the selected slice by reading 3D char array (char***) 3) Create a new QImage* (Format_RGB888) and set pixel values by reading 'slice' (using img-setPixel(x,y,c);) 4) This new QImage* is painted in the paintEvent() method. We are going to execute "edge-detection" process in a seperate thread since it is an intensive process.During this process we need to draw detected curve (set of pixels) on top of above QImage*.(as a layer).This means we need to call drawPoint() methods outside the QT thread. Is it the best wayto use QImage for this case? What is the best way to execute QT drawing methods from another thread? thanks in advance,

  Hi I'm using a xslt based dataview webpart the steps i have taken to create a data view webpart is that 1. added a list view webpart on the page 2. Modified the toolbar property to show fulll toolbar 3. open the web page containing above list view webpart in sharepoint desginer and converted it to xslt based webpart (to make further changes in UI) 4. saved the page and previewed in browser in browser web part was throwing the error while i was able to see it properly in desginer witout any error the error maesseged shown in webpart was: ** Unable to display this Web Part. • Odd background image resizing on animating UIView

  I have a UIView in the middle of a view that I am using as a game playing area (in a 2d cocoa view). This image has a background image of the same size as the view. Resizing the view I use animation to make it look smooth (and that works fine). However, when the animation starts, the background image immediately changes size, tiling or being clipped to a size that when the animation finishes, the background image is physically the same size. I don't want this, I want the image to always fit the view, regardless of the view size. I am guessing that maybe I would have to make a separate view underneath my main view but is that the only way?

• Why would a SQL query JOIN on the same table twice with the same condition?

  I'm working on changes to a SQL Server v8 database developed by someone else, and have found something that seems (based on my limited SQL knowledge) strange and pointless. One of the views has a query that does a LEFT OUTER JOIN twice on the same table with the same condition. Is there any reason for doing this? The query is below. See the second- and third-last lines that both join the "te_SDE_Survey" table on the "SDE_ID" field. • Source Control Checkin Comments at Top Of Source Files

  I've noticed a discrepancy with some source files in our system whereby some contain source-control checkin comments, and some do not. These comments are added automatically to the top of the file when it is checked in: * $Log: //vm1/Projects/Morpheus/Sleep.bdy-arc $ -- -- Rev 1.14 Apr 14 2009 15:32:52 John Smith --Fixed bugs 2292 and 2230. This seems to have been quite prevelant in all the compainies with which I have worked, but I must confess that I struggle to see the point. Generally the comments aren't that good, are ofen left by people who have long since departed, and even when they are of a high standard it is difficult to tie them to physical code changes. It also strikes me, that you are physically changing the file that you are checking in. Now, this may not be such a problem with files that will be compiled, but could be a disaster with others, e.g. JavaScript files. So really, my query is what was the motivation in concept behind providing this functionality in the first instance? Does anyone actually find these comments useful? Also, I would be curious to know if this was feature that is commonly supported within Source Control systems. I am aware of it with PVCS, VSS and Subversion (Subversion Keyword Substitution), however I wonder if it is also available in some of the more popular DVCSs. Your help, as always is much appreciated.

• Problem retrieving multiple instances of the same asp.net session variable

  I'm having problems with retrieving multiple instances of a session variable from an InProc session state. In the following code I persist a simple BusinessObject into a session variable on the Page_Load event. On the click of a button I try to retrieve the object back into 2 new declared instances of the same BusinessObject. All works great until I change one of the properties in the first instance, it changes the second instance as well. Is this normal behaviour? I would have thought as these were new instances they wouldn’t demonstrate static behaviour? Any ideas where I'm going wrong? • Source of parsers for programming languages?

  I'm dusting off an old project of mine which calculates a number of simple metrics about large software projects. One of the metrics is the length of files/classes/methods. Currently my code "guesses" where class/method boundaries are based on a very crude algorithm (traverse the file, maintaining a "current depth" and adjusting it whenever you encounter unquoted brackets; when you return to the level a class or method began on, consider it exited). However, there are many problems with this procedure, and a "simple" way of detecting when your depth has changed is not always effective. To make this give accurate results, I need to use the canonical way (in each language) of detecting function definitions, class definitions and depth changes. This amounts to writing a simple parser to generate parse trees containing at least these elements for every language I want my project to be applicable to. Obviously parsers have been written for all these languages before, so it seems like I shouldn't have to duplicate that effort (even though writing parsers is fun). Is there some open-source project which collects ready-to-use parser libraries for a bunch of source languages? Or should I just be using ANTLR to make my own from scratch? (Note: I'd be delighted to port the project to another language to make use of a great existing resource, so if you know of one, it doesn't matter what language it's written in.)

• Sending email with attachments from C#, attachments arrive as Part 1.2 in Thunderbird

  I have a C# application which emails out Excel spreadsheet reports via an Exchange 2007 server using SMTP. These arrive fine for Outlook users, but for Thunderbird and Blackberry users the attachments have been renamed as "Part 1.2". I found this article which describes the problem, but doesn't seem to give me a workaround. I don't have control of the Exchange server so can't make changes there. Is there anything I can do on the C# end? I have tried using short filenames and HTML encoding for the body but neither made a difference. • CSS animated menu

  I am trying to obtain something similar to the "share this on..." menu here but I don't quite understand how they are doing this, even after a look at their CSS. I refer to the fact that the images show up on hover. My first attempt would be something like <div id="share_on"> <ul> <li><a href="#"><img src="shareon-digg.png" /></a></li> <li><a href="#"><img src="shareon-reddit.png" /></a></li> ... <li><a href="#"><img src="shareon-stumbleupon.png" /></a></li> </ul> </div> and the CSS: #share_on {overflow: hidden} #share_on ul {margin-bottom: -16px} #share_on li {display: inline} #share_on li:hover {margin-top: -16px} Of course this does not work, which is why I am asking here. In the inactive state, only half of the icon shows up, which is the expected behaviour. But on hover, nothing changes. I also have tried some variations, like #share_on li:hover {margin-bottom: 16px} or #share_on li:hover {padding-bottom: 16px} but none of these works. Any ideas?

• My AJAX is only firing once,

• Crystal Reports .Net Guidance

  We have been using .Net and Visual Studio for the last six years, and early on developed a number of web based reporting applications using the .Net version of Crystal Reports that was bundled with Visual Studio. My overall opinion of that product has been, to say the least, rather unimpressed. It seemed to be incredibly difficult and convoluted to use, we had to make security changes, install various extra software, and so on. Now, we are moving to VS2008 and version 3.5 of the .Net framework, and the time has come to redevelop some of these old applications. The developers who used (and somehow mastered) Crystal .Net have long gone, and I am facing a decision - do we stick with Crystal Reports or move to something else. We also have the "full" version of Crystal Reports XI at our disposal. The way we use the product is to product pdf versions of data extracted from various databases. While some apps use the inbuilt Crystal Reports viewer as well, this seems to be redundant now with the flexibility of grid views - but there is still the need to produce a pdf version of the data in teh grid for printing, or in Excel format to download. What is the concensus? Is Crystal Reports .Net worth persisting with, or should we work out how to use version XI? Alternatively, is there a simple and low cost way to generate pdf reports without using Crystal? What good sources of "how to" information have others found and recommend? Are there suitable books, designed for VS2008 / .Net 3.5 development that you have used and found of benefit? Thanks in advance.

• Weblogic 10.3, JDBC, Oracle, SQL - Table or View does not exist

  Hi, I've got a really odd issue that I've not had any success googling for. It started happening with no changes to the DB, connection settings, code etc. Problem is, when accessing a servlet, one of the EJB's is doing a direct SQL call, very simple "select \n" + " value, \n" + " other_value \n" + " from \n" + " some_table \n" + " where some_condition = ? " That's obviously not the direct SQL, but pretty close. For some reason, this started returning an error stating "ORA-00942: table or view does not exist". The table exists, and the kicker is if I hook in a debugger, change a space or something minor (not changing the query itself) in the query, and hot-deploy the change, it works fine. This isn't the first time I've run across this. It only seems to happen in dev environments (haven't seen it in q/a, sandbox, or production yet), is not always replicable, and driving me seriously insane. By not always replicable I mean that occasionally a clean build & redeploy will sometimes fix the problem, but not always. It's not always the same table (although if the error occurs it continues with the same query). Just throwing a feeler out there to see if anybody has run into issues like this before, and what they may have discovered to fix it.

• How reliable is DateTime.Utc in Silverlight applications?

  I have a silverlight application which users will be running in various time zones. The applications load their data from the server at one time, then cache it in IsolatedStorage. When I make changes to the data on the server, I want to be able to change the "last updated time" so that all applications download the newest data the next time they check this date. However, I'm a bit confused as to how to handle the time zone issue since a if the server is in New York and the update time is set to 2010-01-01 17:00:00 and a client in Seattle checks compares it to its local time of 2010-01-01 14:00:00 it won't update and will continue to provide old data for three more hours. My solution is to always post the update time in UTC time, not with the time on the server, then make the Silverlight app check with DateTime.UtcNow. Is this as easy as it sounds or are their issues with this, e.g. that timezones are not set correctly on computers and hence the SilverlightApp does not report the correct UTC time. Can anyone say from experience how likely it is that using DateTime.UtcNow like this for cache refreshing will work in all cases? If DateTime.UtcNow is not reliable, I will just use an incremented "DataVersion" integer but there are other scenarios in which getting time zone sychronization down would make it useful thoroughly understand how to solve this in silverlight apps.

• Episerver Scheduled Job fails (scheduler service)

  Our scheduled jobs started failing since yesterday with the following error message: CustomUpdate.Execute - System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. at System.Web.Security.Roles.GetRolesForUser(String username) at EPiServer.Security.PrincipalInfo.CreatePrincipal(String username) The scheduled job uses anonymous execution and logs in programmatically using the following call: if (PrincipalInfo.CurrentPrincipal.Identity.Name == string.Empty) { PrincipalInfo.CurrentPrincipal = PrincipalInfo.CreatePrincipal(ApplicationSettings.ScheduledJobUsername); } I have put in some more logging around PrincipalInfo.CreatePrincipal call which is in Episerver.Security and noticed that PrincipalInfo.CreatePrincipal calls System.Web.Security.Roles.GetRolesForUser(username) and Roles.GetRolesForUser(username) returns an empty string array. There were no changes code wise or on the server (updates, etc). I checked that the user name used to run the task is in the database and has roles associated with it. I checked that applicationname is set up correctly and is associated with the user If i run the job manually using the same user it executes with no issues (i know there is a difference between running the job manually and using the scheduler) I also tried creating a new user, that didn’t work either. Has anyone come across the same or similar issue? Any thoughts how to resolve this issue?

• Using complex data types from Java in Axis webservice

  I am currently developing a Java app which handles a SOAP webservice. The problem lies after I parse the WSDL [the Parser object from Apache Axis does it for me], and I create the call. When I try to invoke it, I have to pass a Object[] to assign the parameters [taken from the Action of the WSDL]. A normal action is easy, but when I have custom datatypes, I can't get it to fill it out for me. I try to pass Object[]{ new Object { }}, but it assigns the first field instead. I can't pass it already processed, because it changes the '< ' to '--lt --gt', and the server doesn't recognize it'. • Copied Netbeans IDE Maven Web project failes to compile

  If I am going to make serious changes to my project I like to make a copy (right click project and select copy). I have created copies of my projects many times (maven web applications included) without issue. Now all I do is copy the project making no changes, leaving the copy settings on default (project name etc) and then try to run it and spring decides to take issue with it. Again I try running the original and it works. I deleted the faulty copy, restarted and tried again and still it does not work.
