  Hey all, i am trying to learn how to insert a comment within some html code without having to refresh the page. I know jQuery is capable of inserting a comment into a div area but i am having problems finding an example like that with fading in.   In the controller, how can I add a variable at the end of a params[]? If I try this I get an error: params[:group_] + variable How should it be done? Edit per request Ok, I have a form that sets groups of radio buttons with names like this: group_01DRN0 Obviously I have different groups in the form (group_01AAI0, group_01AUI0, etc.) and the value is set according to the radio button selected within the group: Radio button "group_01DRN0" could have value of "21" or "22" or "23", radio button "group_01AAI0" could have value of "21" or "22" or "23", etc. In the DB I have every code (01DRN0, 01AAI0, 01AUI0, etc) so I want to select them from DB and iterate in the params value so I can get the radio button group value, I've tried this with no luck: @codes=Code.get_codes for c in @codes @all=params[:group_] + c.name end Thanks.

• ASP.NET Granting access to local resources

  Hi all I have an ASP.NET web application that runs on a windows server 2003 server. there is a form that reads and writes data to an xml file inside the application's directory. I always grant the NETWORK SERVICE user full control on my application folder so that it can read and write to the xml file. I put the application on another windows server 2003 server and did the same steps above but i was getting an Access denied exception on the form that reads and writes to the xml. I did some search and found that if you grant the user ASPNET full control to the directory it would work, I did that and it worked fine. my question is: what is the difference between granting full control permissions to NETWORK SERVICE and ASPNET users ? and what can be the difference between the two servers that caused this issue ? thanks

• Multiple Post Requests Occuring in Quick Succession

  This is a bit of an open ended question but we have a problem with a web application that on the final step of completing an order, multiple post requests are being made, sometimes up to 10 and all within a couple of seconds to the page. Theirs nothing unusual about the page, the user fills out a form which is then validated using the jQuery form validation plugin. We've seen this behavior exhibited over a couple of different browser types, notably IE6 but also IE8. We've also managed to trigger the bug ourselves but nothing out of the ordinary seems to occur on the browsers end, everything progresses as normal. Apache logs show that multiple post requests where made at the same time and the Rails logs show that multiple posts requests were also received by the application, leading me to think it's a problem with the browser. I've exhausted all avenues that I can think of for debugging so I'm throwing this out there to see if anyone has some ideas of what we could try or look for next.

• WndProc(ref Message m), Prevent minimize Games, Send key strokes.

  Overview: I am going to create a touch application that interfaces with games and other apps. This concept is similar to the app found on touch-buddy.com but I will be using C# and WPF instead of how the application is written in Perl. I have a few challenges I would like to evaluate. The touch-buddy app uses two approaches while interacting with games; 1. Client mode (Same machine runs both game and touch-buddy). 2. Server / Client mode where a separate box sends commands to the game machine. The reason I believe for this method was to circumvent the issue with games minimizing. In Client only mode I am faced with the issue where I touch a screen OTHER than the main screen where the game is viewed and then the game minimizes. Not all games have this behavior but I would like to conquer the games that do minimize and prevent it. Is it possible to keep a game front and center Focused and prevent minimizing utilizing C# WndProc(ref Message m)? I have been experimenting with WndProc(ref Message m) where I created a win form and when I press minimize on my own Win form and it will close an instance of notepad. This proves to me that I can capture a message, prevent that message from bubbling up and then send a message to another application. I then tried to click on notepad with my touch screen and keep my win form application in focus and not minimize. At this point I am unsuccessful. I need more time understanding message codes. Is this the right approach? Can it be done? Should I look at other libraries such as Windows Automation? Key input is my other concern. What is the best way to send key strokes to other apps/games. Should I tap into DirectX, use some kind of send key, Automation Framework? Can any of these handle the multiple key strokes that some simulation games require? I appreciate any links and or insight you may have. If you have gone down this path for any reason I would love to hear your comments. Stan

  With combo box controls, I'm used to being able tab to them, click the down arrow key to open up the options, and then use the up and down arrow keys to navigate those options. In an Access form I've designed, pressing down while a combo box is active moves to the next control. I already have tab for that, so how can I get the down arrow to behave as I expect? These combo boxes are the only thing between me and a mouse-free form, which I consider essential for data entry. Thanks in advance for your help!

  My Application (Vb.net, Access 2003/2007) is to scan Access Database files for activex controls and to generate report accordingly. Problem: Getting an error like: "Insufficient memory to continue the execution of the program." The above error occurs while scanning for older version of Access files like prior to office 2000. • YUI Autocomplete: itemSelectEvent getting lost with IE6 and IE7?

  I'm using YUI Autocomplete (latest version loaded using loader as of today (May 14th, 2010), which looks to be 2.8.1, with the following options: ac = new YAHOO.widget.AutoComplete("mynode", "autocomp_node", ac_ds, {typeAhead: true, forceSelection: true}); ac.itemSelectEvent.subscribe( function(type, args) { alert("hey:" + args[2][1]); $('#parent_id').val(args[2][1]); }); The itemSelectEvent catches selections in AutoComplete and fills in some data on the parent. This works on FF, Chrome, Safari, and IE8. On IE6 and IE7, however, the event never seems to trigger. To replicate: In the autocomplete field, allow it to autofill for you, then hit enter. This should select the autofill and move on to the next field (that's what it does in other browsers). With IE6 and IE7 it seems to instead trigger the form submission - the itemSelectEvent never fires (or perhaps fires after the form submission?). Has anyone seen this? Any work-arounds?

  Hi, I have a JQuery dialog that requires the user to enter certain information. In this form I have a "continue" button. I would like this "continue" button to only be enabled once all the fields have content in them else it will remain disabled. I wrote a function that is called everytime a field status has changed however I don't know how to enable and disable the dialog button from this function. Any ideas?   I have a feature that gets installed using a WSP package, when the feature is activated, I would like the following to happen: The feature will contain a list definition. When the feature gets activated by an end user (the user physically clicks the feature activation button in site features admin) - I would like a modal dialog to appear then ask the user to provide some additional details. 3.1 The additional details will be supplying a certain number of names. For example Mary, John, Peter. Form logistics I can handle. Once the form is complete that information needs to somehow get back to the feature reciever, so that I can then take the base list definition, and use it as a template to create list instances for all the names supplied - so if user had supplied Mary and Peter, then 2 list instances will be created when this feature is activated. Is any of this possible with MOSS 2007? Thank you

• Unresponsive UI when using BeginInvoke

  Bckground I have a networked application written in C#. my server program has a UI and several communication threads, that read from tcp sockets and display messages on controller UI. Communication with each client is done through a seprate thread. When i recieve some stream of messages from one client , the thread for that client writes on UI, which is a richtextbox on a Form. • Update Message on ASP.NET ModelPopupExtender

  Hi, I have a form in a MS AJAX ModalPopup Extender, which is in a UpdatePanel (for async loading). Everything works as expected. There is one thing that I am trying to do but not sure how to do it. On form submission, there is server side validation on top of client side validation. My question is: what is the best way to display validation error messages if any? It would be ideal if the messages could be written to the popup asynchronously so that the popup is still there. If this is not possible, I am thinking of displaying the messages using the JavaScript alert box. Any insight and suggestions are greatly appreciated. John

• VB 2010 Express - Debugger is not breaking on errors, Sub producing error simply terminates

  I'm using VB 2010 Express. When an error occurs in the form load function, the form load function simply terminates. Then, when I click on one of my buttons, the button click sub also terminates if it has an error. I can wrap the code that produces the errors in try/catch blocks, but I'd very much rather the debugger to throw an immediate break point (like usual) or at least exit the program. • How can I stop a default event when using a named function in addEvent?

  Normally, if I wish to stop a default event in mootools I can do this: $('form').addEvent('submit', function(e) { e.stop(); //Do stuff here } However, I don't like using an anonymous function in events because I often want to reuse the code. Lets say I have a validate function. I could do this: $('form').addEvent('submit', validate); which works fine until I want to stop the default event. validate obviously doesn't know what e is so I can't just do e.stop(). Also I've tried passing the event as a variable to validate but whenever I use a named function with parameters, the function gets called automatically on domready, rather than on the event firing. Even worse, an error is thrown when the event is fired: What am I doing wrong?

• Reading int from a hidden field in .aspx

  Hi, I'm struggling to read an int from the hidden field on aspx page. <input type = "hidden" id = "myIntegerId" name = "integerId" value= "<%: Model.MyObjectId %>" runat = "server" /> The value is definately on the form, I can see it in the debugger and print it with <%: % When I read the form values in the controller, instead of an int I recieve a following string: <%: Model.MyObjectId % I have tried casting data in the hidden field to string and calling ToString() method on that field, neither has worked. The data is submitted using the post event. I have a feeling that I'm missing something very basic... Any help is greately appreciated. Thanks

• Building a complete program?

  Reading books, watching videos, and reviewing tutorials is all very easy. Taking notes and actually learning the material may be slightly harder, but even then, anyone with a decent brain and a fair amount of interest, it's easy enough (not to mention, fun). The thing is, it doesn't really prepare you to write a full program or website. Let's say you're those teens (only in highschool, no true (college level) computer science or programming courses, and no real world experience), and you come out with Groupon. Or even Mark Zuckerburg, sure he was a genius, and he was a very capable programmer... but how? How do you recommend that people who are not necessarily new to programming, but new to programming real applications and real programmers go about developing it? What is the "development process" - especially for single programmers (or maybe 2-3 teens)? Also, as far as web development goes, what is the process? Was something like Facebook or Groupon written with a framework (like CodeIgniter or Zend for PHP)? Or do they develop their own frameworks? I'm not asking how to come up with a great idea, but how to implement great ideas in an effective way? Does anyone have advice? I've read a couple of books on both C and C++ (primarily the C Programming Language and the C++ Programming Language) and taken AP Computer Science (as well as read a few additional books on Java and OOP). I also have read a few tutorials on PHP (and CodeIgniter) and Python. But I'm still in highschool, and I'm technically not even old enough to work at an internship for a few more months.
