• SL3/SL4 - Ado.Net Data Services Error during new DataServiceCollection<T>(queryResponse)

  Hey all, I have two functions in a SL project (VS2010) that do almost exactly the same thing, yet one throws an error and the other does not. It seems to be related to the projections, but I am unsure about the best way to resolve. This is under SL4 or SL3 using ADONETDataServices SL3 Update CTP3. I am open to any work around or pointers to goo information, a Google search for the error results in two hits, neither particularly helpful that I can decipher. The short error is "An item could not be added to the collection. When items in a DataServiceCollection are tracked by the DataServiceContext, new items cannot be added before items have been loaded into the collection." The full error is... • iphone - creating a reference to a MPMoviePlayerController

  At some point in my code I am creating a MPMoviePlayerController object and playing it. As I need to reference this object at some other methods in my code that runs asynchronously, I need to store a pointer to the movie object etc., so I can use that. Declaring MPMoviePlayerController * myMovie on the header file is out of question, because the compiler will give me an error saying "expected specifier-qualifier-list before 'MPMoviePlayerController'". If it was a view I could do something like [self.view viewWithTag:99]; to get the object, but the MPMoviePlayerController does not allow this. How can I obtain the movie object or store a reference to it, so I can call the object in other methods? thanks for any help.

• Why won't OpenCV compile in NVCC?

  Hi there I am trying to integrate CUDA and openCV in a project. Problem is openCV won't compile when NVCC is used, while a normal c++ project compiles just fine. This seems odd to me, as I thought NVCC passed all host code to the c/c++ compiler, in this case the visual studio compiler. The errors I get are? c:\opencv2.0\include\opencv\cxoperations.hpp(1137): error: no operator "=" matches these operands operand types are: const cv::Range = cv::Range c:\opencv2.0\include\opencv\cxoperations.hpp(2469): error: more than one instance of overloaded function "std::abs" matches the argument list: function "abs(long double)" function "abs(float)" function "abs(double)" function "abs(long)" function "abs(int)" argument types are: (ptrdiff_t) So my question is why the difference considering the same compiler (should be) is being used and secondly how I could remedy this.

• Word Spell Check pops up hidden and "freezes" my App

  I am using Word's Spell Check in my in house WinForm app. My clients are all XP machines with Office 2007 and randomly the spell check suggestion box pops up behind the App and makes everything "appear" frozen as you cannot get at it. Suggestions? What do other people do to work around this or stop it altogether? • Binding to a dictionary in Silverlight with INotifyPropertyChanged

  In silverlight, I can not get INotifyPropertyChanged to work like I want it to when binding to a dictionary. In the example below, the page binds to the dictionary okay but when I change the content of one of the textboxes the CustomProperties property setter is not called. The CustomProperties property setter is only called when CustomProperties is set and not when the values within it are set. I am trying to do some validation on the dictionary values and so am looking to run some code when each value within the dictionary is changed. Is there anything I can do here? • Weak-linking with static libraries

  I have declared an external function with a GCC weak attribute in a .c file: extern int weakFunction( ) __attribute__ ((weak)); Compiled object file has weakFunction defined as a weak symbol. Output of nm: 1791: w weakFunction I am calling the weak defined function as follows: if (weakFunction != NULL) { weakFunction(); } When I link the program by defining the object files as parameters to GCC (gcc main.o weakf.o -o main.exe) weak symbols work fine. If I leave the weakf.o out of linking, the function address is NULL in main.c and the function won't be called. Problem is, when weakf.o is inside a static library, for some reason the linker doesn't find the function and the function address always ends up being NULL. Static library is created with ar: ar rcs weaklibrary weakf.o Anyone had similar problems?

  I want to display data from a json files in a data grid using dojo ver 1.0.0. I am able to diplay the data when i declare it on my code but when i store the same data in a json format so i can reference it in my script,i get an empty grid.   Given an object X; I want this object to have an image. The image must be stored in the database. I can't store the path, the actual image must be in the database. My question can be answered by answering the following subquestions: a). What type of field should I put in the database? (e.g VARCHAR) b) What type of object should I use for storing and manipulating the image (at an object layer)? (e.g java.awt.Image) c) How do I create an object of the type selected (answer of question b) from the data obtained from the database? d) How do I save an object of the type selected (answer of question b) to the database? e) How do I draw the image on a web page? Before this is rendered I get a list of days from the server via ajax of days that need to be highlighted for the current month. • Handler invocation speed: Objective-C vs virtual functions

  I heard that calling a handler (delegate, etc.) in Objective-C can be even faster than calling a virtual function in C++. Is it really correct? If so, how can that be? AFAIK, virtual functions are not that slow to call. At least, this is my understanding of what happens when a virtual function is called: Compute the index of the function pointer location in vtbl. Obtain the pointer to vtbl. Dereference the pointer and obtain the beginning of the array of function pointers. Offset (in pointer scale) the beginning of the array with the index value obtained on step 1. Issue a call instruction. Unfortunately, I don't know Objective-C so it's hard for me to compare performance. But at least, the mechanism of a virtual function call doesn't look that slow, right? How can something other than static function call be faster?

  I've read all over the place that global variables are bad and alternatives should be used. In Javascript specifically, what solution should I choose. I'm thinking of a function, that when fed two arguments (function globalVariables(Variable,Value)) looks if Variable exists in a local array and if it does set it's value to Value, else, Variable and Value are appended. If the function is called without arguments (function globalVariables()) it returns the array. Perhaps if the function is fired with just one argument (function globalVariables(Variable)) it returns the value of Variable in the array. What do you think? I'd like to hear your alternative solutions and arguments for using global variables.

  I know Singleton pattern has been discussed so much. But because I'm not fully understand the memory management mechanism in Objective-C, so when I combined Singleton implementation with multithreading, I got a big error and cost me a whole day to resolve it. I had a singleton object, let's call it ObjectX. I declared an object inside ObjectX that will detach a new thread, let's call that object objectWillSpawnNewThread, when I called [[ObjectX sharedInstance].objectWillSpawnNewThread startNewThread]; The new thread could not be executed correctly, and finally I found out that I should not declare the object objectWillSpawnNewThread inside the singleton class. Here are my questions: How does Objective-C allocate static object in the memory? Where does Objective-C allocate them(Main thread stack or somewhere else)? Why would it be failed if we spawn a new thread inside the singleton object? I had searched the Objective-C language [ObjC.pdf] and Objective-C memory management document, maybe I missed something, but I currently I could not find any helpful information.

  Hi, I have an object with a property called "name". This object has a sub object that has a property called "name" as well. Transaction.name Transaction.TransactionItem TransactionItem.name I bind Transaction object to a partial control as usual: Html.TextBox("name", Model.name)% Model is a Transaction object. And I bind TransactionItems: < if (Model.mtTransactionItem != null) { foreach (var item in Model.mtTransactionItem) { % <%= Ajax.ActionLink(item.name, "ShowItem", new { id = item.id }, new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "dialog-form" })% And when I update the one of the transaction items through an ajax call I pass the entire transaction object to the partial view. When I debug I check the Model.name property, and it has a proper value. But on the page shows the name of TransactionItem value instead of the name of Transaction value. What do I do wrong? I have checked this problem in MVC 1.0 and MVC 2.0 framework.

When I hit the last letter, I want it to trigger a javascript function. Right now that function just alerts hi.   Is the difference here just various syntactical sugars or is there a reason to use one approach over the other?
