• Find vertices of a convex hull

  I am attempting to do this within CGAL. From a 3D point cloud, find the convex hull, then loop over the finite facets of the convex hull and print each facet's vertices. It seems like there should be a straightforward way to do this; I would have expected that 3D polyhedra would own a vector of facet objects, each of which in turn would own a vector of its edges, each of which in turn would own a vector of its vertices, and that their would be some access through this hierarchy using iterators. But so far I have been unable to find a simple way to navigate through this hierarchy (if it exists).

  I am very inspired by websites like imgur, dropbox, screencloud, maybe w3schools...you get my point. Fresh web-services with some new idea, not big portals but something simple yet useful and used by many people, something simple and new. What aspects of my developer career should I focus to be able to build such things on my own if I have enough ideas? (Sure if it ends up being popular I can get more developers to help me and so on, but at first I can do it alone, right?) I am currently a PHP web-developer, I know HTML+CSS+JS+AJAX+JQuery. But even like that there still is web-design, there are a lot of paths: websites for enterprise, startups, webservices, entertainment websites and serious bank/document flow systems, frameworks used for big systems, different approaches for little ones, etcetcetc. Which path should I take to be able to start my own projects like the ones that I listed on top which inspire me?

• What is needed for a networked home printer?

  I've seen this question: Home network printer recommendations but I think I'm asking something more basic. I'm not really familiar with networked printers or how they work or what they do really. What I'd like is to have a printer that is accessible to anyone connected to my home network, without having to plug into the printer itself. An alternative setup might to be to have a printer that is always hooked up to one computer, like a desktop, that is almost always on and allows other computers connected on the network to print to it as well. I believe the first option is called a networked printer and the second is printer sharing. But again I'm new to this so I don't really know the details or if I'm using the correct terminology. I was wondering if someone might be able to shed some light on this and let me know what is needed for either of these setup. Thanks.

• Best Web Site Copying Software

  I just wanted to get some opinions on the best "web site copying" software out there (free or commercial is fine). I have a site that I've recently become responsible for managing, and the previous consultant has not provided operating system access. As such, the plan is to re-host the web site. I realize there are a lot of different issues to consider in doing this. However, I don't have much choice in the matter now. The plan is to use web site copying software (ala HTTrack) to "rip" the web site, and then modify what is downloaded back in to a maintainable site. This, of course, involves HTML, css, javascript, etc on the front-end. I'd like to recover as much of the site as possible to make re-creating it as easy as possible.

• How to preseed 12.10 desktop when the ubuntu-desktop package is missing?

  I have been trying to use a preseed file to do PXE booting of a 12.10 desktop. Upon the first boot, I was greeted by a terminal with login prompt. Surprised, I checked the /var/log/installer/syslog but didn't find a trace of desktop installation. Feeling curious, I double-checked the content of the loop mounted iso file, and realized that the ubuntu-desktop package that existed up to 12.04.1 is no longer available. So, the following preseed lines from the Ubuntu preseed example no longer apply: ################################################################################ ### Package selection ### ################################################################################ # Selected packages. tasksel tasksel/first multiselect ubuntu-desktop #tasksel tasksel/first multiselect lamp-server, print-server #tasksel tasksel/first multiselect kubuntu-desktop Given such a situation, is there something that I can specify in the pre-seed file to install the entire default desktop?

  As above really, do I need to go to Uni to get a job as a Junior C# coder? I'm 26 and have been working in Games (Production) for 6 years and I am thinking of a change, I've had exposure to VB6, VBA, HTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript over the past few years and did a web design NCFE at College, but other than that, nothing else! I'm teaching myself C# at the moment with books and I was wondering 'how much' I need to learn and also how I can improve my chances of getting a programming job! Am I a late started to learn coding?   I've been a commercial programmer for about 3 years now but all of my commercial work is based upon PHP (with Cake PHP, Wordpress and Wildfire) and ASP.Net (on C#, including MVC 3, Umbraco and Kentico) as well as plenty of HTML/CSS/jQuery examples to show. A future employer has asked me to show my Ruby on Rails potential. I've done Ruby on Rails before for fun, but nothing worthy of commercial showing. What I'd like to know, from a group of programmers, is what would be a good 'portfolio demo' piece for you? What have you seen in the past that impressed you? What are you looking for? • How to install downloaded Canon ScanGear

  I have newly installed Ubuntu 12.04. I have Canon MG6360 printer/scanner. I have successfully installed printer drivers and can print okay. Have downloaded MG6300 series ScanGear MP Ver. 2.00 for Linux (deb) from Canon but don't know how to install this from terminal. I apologise for having to ask such a basic question! Thanks. Later...I have extracted the files. Question appears: Do I want to run install.sh? I click 'run in terminal', and enter password. I don't know if it installed and don't know how to check. Scanner does not work or 'see' the PC. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

• How much to charge Ruby on Rails Website [closed]

  I figured it be appropriate to ask this question on webmasters, over the stackoverflow site seeing as there are similar questions here. I am freelancing for a client in the Boston area, who has the html/css templates for their site made by another web designer. They are basically looking for someone to set up the template, and then make the backend so that a user can purchase music on their site (they are musicians). I am wondering then what would be an appropriate amount to charge them to develop such a system, I am a student, and this would be my 3rd Ruby on Rails project, but probably at least the 20 web design project I have been hired to do and I have other programming knowledge, Python, C, etc. I am thinking of suggesting that they pay 1000usd to set up such a system, but I don't know if this is appropriate. To me it seems justifiable given my experience, and the low end of RoR developers I have seen charging 25usd/hr all the way up to 150usd/hr. Any advice would be appreciated.

• What are the 'must know' GDB commands?

  I'm starting to get the hang of GDB, but everything still feels much slower than when debugging in Eclipse or Visual Studio. Are there any GDB commands you find particularly useful/productive? My life became dramatically better when I discovered: list - Display source code near the current instruction But that is still pretty basic. (And unnecessary when running GDB from Emacs.) Is there any way to do things like setup a watch window? (Print and update the result of an expression every time execution stops.)

• How easily recognized are new TLDs?

  I'm interested in purchasing a domain name for a new service I intend to market. I know that .com is instantly recognizable as a domain ending, and if I see stackoverflow.com I know it's a web address. However, I also recognize strings like github.io and mysite.tk as domains, since I've worked with domains like these. To the average member of the public, if one sees an address ending in .io or similar, non-mainstream TLD (e.g. on a billboard or business card) would they immediately know it's a URL and to type it into a browser? Or are these new domains only useful 1) for a technical audience or 2) when you will be primarily promoting your site through links and not print?

  One of our competitors constantly copies all our website content. Now, I assume the trouble is to proof that we wrote the content first and that it is not the other way round. I checked on http://www.archive.org, but there is nothing. Any other way to proof that? FYI: We are a swiss company, so different laws will apply.   Hi I want to add some options to my magento, lets say i print on clothing, a customer buys some t-shirts, shirts and jackets from me, it totals to £60+ VAT on the checkout area where i signup and not before I need to add an option where I can add a text box and upload option, can i do this? I ideally then want to add some pricing options if the user has chosen to add some branding to a product or multiple products e.g. if the branding was on the top right of the shirt it will cost £5.00, if on the back it costs £7.00 etc all if possible to be done via the admincp. I also want an option so when they upload their logo for the first time they are charged a one off charge, like a setup fee but If the customer has allready sent in there logo then no charge applies. thanks Graham

  I've been tasked with writing a Flash application for facilitating a Fantasy Football draft pick. Normally, my choice would be to write this application in JavaScript. Unfortunately, it will require the use of sockets and since we don't have enough experience with Web Socket JS to be sure it would work in this situation I need to learn Flash. Currently, I'm most proficient in JavaScript/HTML/CSS/PHP/MySQL and have never really used Flash in a meaningful way. As best as I can I want to start this project off "the right way". So, what are good to know best practices and/or references/resources that will teach my the right way of doing things in Flash?

  Background I just began working for a religious non-profit organization. As with most non-profits, the organization is resource-poor and has no IT department to speak of. In my two months here I've received 20 requests for websites, apps, and internal automation. Many of these 20 requests have merit and would benefit the organization. I'm a .net web developer and as such the open source community is relatively foreign to me... Question For the sake of this question, lets say I'm talking about building a single, large, website. Does software (web based, hopefully) exist that would allow me to post requirements and assets (graphics and CSS) for a site, and then invite programmers to participate in the sites development? As a simple example, I could post the requirements and data for the about us page and an individual would indicate that they could/would fulfill the requirement. Upon completion, they could upload the new source code to the shared repository (github).
