  • When do I need to use, or not use, .datum when appending an svg element

    - by Bobby Gifford
    svg = d3.select("#viz").append("svg").datum(data) //I often see .datum when an area chart is used. Are there any rules of thumb for when .datum is needed? var area = d3.svg.area() .x(function(d) { return x(d.x); }) .y0(height) .y1(function(d) { return y(d.y); }); var svg = d3.select("body").append("svg") .attr("width", width) .attr("height", height); svg.append("path") .datum(data) .attr("d", area);

  • DocumentFragment not appending in IE

    - by bmwbzz
    I have a select list which, when changed, pulls data via ajax and dynamically creates select lists. Then based on the data used to create the select lists (a type), I pull more data via ajax if i don't have it already and create the options for the select list and store them in a fragment. Then I append that fragment to the select list. This is zippy in FF3 and Chrome but either doesn't append the options at all or takes a long time (minutes) to append the options in IE7. Note: I am also using jQuery. code from the success callback which creates the select lists: blockDiv.empty(); var contentItemTypes = new Array(); selectLists = new Array(); for (var post in msg) { if (post != undefined) { var div = fragment.cloneNode(true); //deep copy var nameDiv = $(div.firstChild); nameDiv.text(msg[post].Name); blockDiv[0].appendChild(div); var allSelectLists = blockDiv.find('.editor-field select'); var selectList = $(allSelectLists[allSelectLists.length - 1]); var blockId = msg[post].ID; var elId = 'PageContentItem.' + blockId; selectList.attr('id', elId); selectList.attr('name', elId); var contentItemTypeId = msg[post].ContentItemTypeId; selectList.attr('cit', contentItemTypeId); if (contentItems[contentItemTypeId] != null || contentItems[contentItemTypeId] != undefined) { contentItems[contentItemTypeId] = null; } selectLists[post] = selectList; } } var firstContentTypeId = selectLists[0].attr('cit'); getContentItems(firstContentTypeId, setContentItemsForList, 0); code to get the items for the options in the select lists. function getContentItems(contentTypeId, callback, callbackParam) { if (contentItems[contentTypeId] != null || contentItems[contentTypeId] != undefined) { callback(contentTypeId, callbackParam); return; } contentItems[contentTypeId] = document.createDocumentFragment(); Q.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/CMS/ContentItem/ListByContentType/" + contentTypeId, data: "{}", contentType: "application/json; charset=utf-8", dataType: "json", error: function(xhr, msg, e) { var err = eval("(" + xhr.responseText + ")"); alert(err.ExceptionType + " ***** " + err.Message + " ***** " + err.StackTrace); }, success: function(msg) { var li; for (var post in msg) { if (post != undefined) { li = $('<option value="' + msg[post].ID + '">' + msg[post].Description + '</option>'); contentItems[contentTypeId].appendChild(li[0]); } } callback(contentTypeId, callbackParam); } }); } function setContentItemsForList(contentTypeId, selectIndex) { if (selectIndex < selectLists.length) { var items = contentItems[contentTypeId].cloneNode(true); selectLists[selectIndex].append($(items.childNodes)); selectIndex++; if (selectIndex < selectLists.length) { var nextContentTypeId = selectLists[selectIndex].attr('cit'); getContentItems(nextContentTypeId, setContentItemsForList, selectIndex); } } }

  • Matlab help: I am given a second order differential equation.I need to use matlab to find unit step response and impulse response?

    - by Cady Smith
    I have the second order differential equation d^2(y(t))/dt^2+ B1*d(y(t))/dt+ c1*y(t)=A1*x(t) t is in seconds and is greater than 0. A1, B1, C1 are constants that equal: A1= 3.8469x10^6 B1= 325.6907 C1= 3.8469x10^6 This system is linear, time-invariant, and casual. The system is called H1. I want to use Matlab to compute and plot the impulse response function h1(t) and the unit step response function g1(t) of this system.

  • Good suggestions for learning OOP PHP

    - by Doug
    I've been trying to learn PHP OOP and have looked at multiple articles, but have yet to find a good resource for learning. I want to learn from the user of setters and getters, $this-, constructors, and so on...! Can anyone please suggest me something? I noticed MOST teachings leave out the explanation of $this-. I want to learn magic methods, decorators, encapsulation, etc... Feel free to suggest something that I haven't explicitly listed.

  • Should I use fork or threads?

    - by shadyabhi
    In my script, I have a function foo which basically uses pynotify to notify user about something repeatedly after a time interval say 15 minutes. def foo: while True: """Does something""" time.sleep(900) My main script has to interact with user & does all other things so I just cant call the foo() function. directly. Whats the better way of doing it and why? Using fork or threads?

  • Working with arrays passed byref

    - by Jason
    I would like for someone to explain this to me: function myFunction(array){ array = $.grep(array, function(n,i){return n > 1 }); } var mainArray = [1,2,3]; myFunction(mainArray); document.write(mainArray) // 1,2,3, but i'm expecting 2,3 but if i do something like array[3] = 4; in place of the $.grep line, i get 1,2,3,4. Shouldn't mainArray become the new array created by $.grep?

  • What/Where are the Naming Rules for Controller actions in a Zend_Application App

    - by Alan Storm
    I've created a Zend_Application using the zf tool that's bundled with Zend Framework (1.96, if that matters) What at the rules for formatting action names and how those action names get translated into into URL paths, and where in the Framework codebase does this happen? I ask because I tried to create an action like public function createFooAction() { } and it wouldn't load with a URL like http://example.com/controller/createFoo BUT, the following did work public function createfooAction() { } http://example.com/controller/createfoo I also know non-alphanumeric characters get treated differently, and I'd like to know the base rules I'm dealing with.

  • Python: how to inherite and override

    - by Guy
    Consider this situation: I get an object of type A which has the function f. I.e: class A: def f(): print 'in f' def h(): print 'in h' and I get an instance of this class but I want to override the f function but save the rest of the functionality of A. So what I was thinking was something of the sort: class B(A): .... def f(): print 'in B->f' and the usage would be: def main(a): b = B(a) b.f() #prints "in B->f" b.h() #print "in h" How do you do such a thing?

    In a module residing inside a package, i have the need to use a function defined within the __init__.py of that package. how can i import the package within the module that resides within the package, so i can use that function? Importing __init__ inside the module will not import the package, but instead a module named __init__, leading to two copies of things with different names... Is there a pythonic way to do this?

  • How do make my encryption algorithm encrypt more than 128 bits?

    - by Ranhiru
    OK, now I have coded for an implementation of AES-128 :) It is working fine. It takes in 128 bits, encrypts and returns 128 bits So how do i enhance my function so that it can handle more than 128 bits? How do i make the encryption algorithm handle larger strings? Can the same algorithm be used to encrypt files? :) The function definition is public byte[] Cipher(byte[] input) { }

  • How can I replicate YUI's getElementsBy using Prototype?

    - by LogicWolfe
    I'm moving some code from YUI to javascript and some of it is using YUI's YAHOO.util.Dom.getElementsBy(function). I've been reading through the prototype API docs and haven't been able to find something equivalent. It needs to be able to take an arbitrary function not just select off a CSS selector or the like. Can anyone suggest to me the best way to accomplish this in Prototype?
