  • Check on every page to ensure user has validated as being over 18

    - by liquilife
    Hi Guys and Girls. I'm working on a website (tobacco related) that requires all visitors to validate they are over 18 before they can view the site. I have a form in place that validates the age but I'm at a dead end. How can I use this to store a cookie that they've passed the test and do a check on all pages to see if this check has already been passed or not? Any suggestions and help would be hugely appreciated! Below is my validation form: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; var today = new Date; if ( (today.getTime() - theirDate.getTime()) < 0) { alert("You are too young to enter this site!"); return false; } else { return true; } } </script> </head> <body> <form action="index.html" name="age_form" method="get" id="age_form"> <select name="day" id="day"> <option value="0" selected>DAY</option> <option value="1">1</option> <option value="2">2</option> <option value="3">3</option> <option value="4">4</option> <option value="5">5</option> <option value="6">6</option> <option value="7">7</option> <option value="8">8</option> <option value="9">9</option> <option value="10">10</option> <option value="11">11</option> <option value="12">12</option> <option value="13">13</option> <option value="14">14</option> <option value="15">15</option> <option value="16">16</option> <option value="17">17</option> <option value="18">18</option> <option value="19">19</option> <option value="20">20</option> <option value="21">21</option> <option value="22">22</option> <option value="23">23</option> <option value="24">24</option> <option value="25">25</option> <option value="26">26</option> <option value="27">27</option> <option value="28">28</option> <option value="29">29</option> <option value="30">30</option> <option value="31">31</option> </select> <select name="month" id="month"> <option value="0" selected>MONTH</option> <option value="1">January</option> <option value="2">February</option> <option value="3">March</option> <option value="4">April</option> <option value="5">May</option> <option value="6">June</option> <option value="7">July</option> <option value="8">August</option> <option value="9">September</option> <option value="10">October</option> <option value="11">November</option> <option value="12">December</option> </select> <select name="year" id="year"> <option value="0" selected>YEAR</option> <option value="1920">1920</option> <option value="1921">1921</option> <option value="1922">1922</option> <option value="1923">1923</option> <option value="1924">1924</option> <option value="1925">1925</option> <option value="1926">1926</option> <option value="1927">1927</option> <option value="1928">1928</option> <option value="1929">1929</option> <option value="1930">1930</option> <option value="1931">1931</option> <option value="1932">1932</option> <option value="1933">1933</option> <option value="1934">1934</option> <option value="1935">1935</option> <option value="1936">1936</option> <option value="1937">1937</option> <option value="1938">1938</option> <option value="1939">1939</option> <option value="1940">1940</option> <option value="1941">1941</option> <option value="1942">1942</option> <option value="1943">1943</option> <option value="1944">1944</option> <option value="1945">1945</option> <option value="1946">1946</option> <option value="1947">1947</option> <option value="1948">1948</option> <option value="1949">1949</option> <option value="1950">1950</option> <option value="1951">1951</option> <option value="1952">1952</option> <option value="1953">1953</option> <option value="1954">1954</option> <option value="1955">1955</option> <option value="1956">1956</option> <option value="1957">1957</option> <option value="1958">1958</option> <option value="1959">1959</option> <option value="1960">1960</option> <option value="1961">1961</option> <option value="1962">1962</option> <option value="1963">1963</option> <option value="1964">1964</option> <option value="1965">1965</option> <option value="1966">1966</option> <option value="1967">1967</option> <option value="1968">1968</option> <option value="1969">1969</option> <option value="1970">1970</option> <option value="1971">1971</option> <option value="1972">1972</option> <option value="1973">1973</option> <option value="1974">1974</option> <option value="1975">1975</option> <option value="1976">1976</option> <option value="1977">1977</option> <option value="1978">1978</option> <option value="1979">1979</option> <option value="1980">1980</option> <option value="1981">1981</option> <option value="1982">1982</option> <option value="1983">1983</option> <option value="1984">1984</option> <option value="1985">1985</option> <option value="1986">1986</option> <option value="1987">1987</option> <option value="1988">1988</option> <option value="1989">1989</option> <option value="1990">1990</option> <option value="1991">1991</option> <option value="1992">1992</option> <option value="1993">1993</option> <option value="1994">1994</option> <option value="1995">1995</option> <option value="1996">1996</option> <option value="1997">1997</option> <option value="1998">1998</option> <option value="1999">1999</option> </select> </form> </body> </html>

  • .NET client getting "not well formed" XML response from Axis web service

    - by Tex
    I have a simple .NET app that makes a SOAP call to a third party Axis web service. When I trace the HTTP traffic, I see that the Request looks fine, however I'm getting an exception: "Response is not well-formed XML." The return object is null, as it seems the XML can't be deserialized. One question regarding the various namespace declarations inside the wsdl. Several of these declarations point to URLs / domains that no longer exist. Could this cause any problems? From the wsdl document: <wsdl:definitions targetNamespace="http://domaindoesntexist.com/" xmlns:apachesoap="http://xml.apache.org/xml-soap" xmlns:impl="http://domaindoesntexist.com/" xmlns:intf="http://domaindoesntexist.com/" xmlns:wsdl="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/" xmlns:wsdlsoap="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/wsdl/soap/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> A sample HTTP response with incriminating data removed: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Server: Apache-Coyote/1.1 Content-Type: text/xml;charset=utf-8 Transfer-Encoding: chunked Date: Fri, 05 Jun 2009 13:54:59 GMT 7cb <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <soapenv:Envelope xmlns:soapenv="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"> <soapenv:Body> <someMethod xmlns="http://test.com/services/myservice/"> </someMethod> </soapenv:Body> </soapenv:Envelope> 0

  • Should I expect Comet to be this slow?

    - by Chad Johnson
    I have the following in a Rails controller: def poll records = [] start_time = Time.now.to_i while records.length == 0 do records = Something.uncached{Something.find(:all, :conditions => { :some_condition => false})} if records.length > 0 break end sleep 1 if Time.now.to_i - start_time >= 20 break end end responseData = [] records.each do |record| responseData << { 'something' => record.some_value } # Flag message as received. record.some_condition = true record.save end render :text => responseData.to_json end and then I have Javascript performing an AJAX request. The request sits there for 20 seconds or until the controller method finds a record in the database, waiting. That works. function poll() { $.ajax({ url: '/my_controller/poll', type: 'GET', dataType: 'json', cache: false, data: 'time=' + new Date().getTime(), success: function(response) { // show response here }, complete: function() { poll(); }, error: function() { alert('error'); poll(); } }); } When I have 5 - 10 tabs open in my browser, my web application becomes super slow. Is this to be expected? Or is there some obvious improvement(s) I can make?

  • PHP function returns ZERO.

    - by hypnocode
    Hi guys, I'm having trouble with this PHP function. It keeps returning zero, but I know the SQL statement works because I've queried it myself. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? The last line makes no sense to me...I'm editing this code that someone else wrote. This function should return a number in the hundreds, assuming the date is in March. Thanks! function getCountBetweenDays($day1,$day2,$service) { global $conn; if ($service==1){ $query = "SELECT COUNT(*) as NUM FROM `items` WHERE `modified` BETWEEN '$day1 00:00:00' AND '$day2 23:59:59';";} elseif($service==2){ $query = "SELECT COUNT(*) as NUM FROM `items` WHERE `modified` BETWEEN '$day1 00:00:00' AND '$day2 23:59:59';";} elseif($service==3){ $query = "SELECT COUNT(*) as NUM FROM `items` WHERE `modified` BETWEEN '$day1 00:00:00' AND '$day2 23:59:59';";} $result = mysql_query($query,$conn); $num = mysql_fetch_array ($result); return $num['NUM']; }

  • SQLAlchemy: select over multiple tables

    - by ahojnnes
    Hi, I wanted to optimize my database query: link_list = select( columns=[link_table.c.rating, link_table.c.url, link_table.c.donations_in], whereclause=and_( not_(link_table.c.id.in_( select( columns=[request_table.c.recipient], whereclause=request_table.c.donator==donator.id ).as_scalar() )), link_table.c.id!=donator.id, ), limit=20, ).execute().fetchall() and tried to merge those two selects in one query: link_list = select( columns=[link_table.c.rating, link_table.c.url, link_table.c.donations_in], whereclause=and_( link_table.c.active==True, link_table.c.id!=donator.id, request_table.c.donator==donator.id, link_table.c.id!=request_table.c.recipient, ), limit=20, order_by=[link_table.c.rating.desc()] ).execute().fetchall() the database-schema looks like: link_table = Table('links', metadata, Column('id', Integer, primary_key=True, autoincrement=True), Column('url', Unicode(250), index=True, unique=True), Column('registration_date', DateTime), Column('donations_in', Integer), Column('active', Boolean), ) request_table = Table('requests', metadata, Column('id', Integer, primary_key=True, autoincrement=True), Column('recipient', Integer, ForeignKey('links.id')), Column('donator', Integer, ForeignKey('links.id')), Column('date', DateTime), ) There are several links (donator) in request_table pointing to one link in the link_table. I want to have links from link_table, which are not yet "requested". But this does not work. Is it actually possible, what I'm trying to do? If so, how would you do that? Thank you very much in advance!

  • Unexplained crashs with coregraphic

    - by Ziggy
    Hello there, i'm on this bug for a week now, and i can't solve it. I have some crash with coregraphic calls, it happen randomly (sometimes after 2 mn, or just at the start), but often at the same places in the code. I have a class that just wrap a CGContext, it have a CGContextRef as member. This Object is re-created each time DrawRect() is called, so the CGContextRef is always up-to-date. The draw calls came from the main thread, only After looking for this kind of error, it appear that it should be object Release related. Here is an example of an error : #0 0x90d8a7a7 in ___forwarding___ #1 0x90d8a8b2 in __forwarding_prep_0___ #2 0x90d0d0b6 in CFRetain #3 0x95e54a5d in CGColorRetain #4 0x95e5491d in CGGStateCreateCopy #5 0x95e5486d in CGGStackSave #6 0x95e54846 in CGContextSaveGState #7 0x00073500 in CAutoContextState::CAutoContextState at Context.cpp:47 the AutoContextSave() class look like this : class CAutoContextState { private: CGContextRef m_Hdc; public: CAutoContextState(const CGContextRef& Hdc) { m_Hdc = Hdc; CGContextSaveGState(m_Hdc); } virtual ~CAutoContextState() { CGContextRestoreGState(m_Hdc); } }; It crash at CGContextSaveGState(m_Hdc). Here is what i see into GDB: * -[Not A Type retain]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x16a148b0. • iPhone Development - Location Accuracy

    - by Mustafa
    I'm using following conditions in-order to make sure that the location i get has adequate accuracy, In my case kCLLocationAccuracyBest. But the problem is that i still get inaccurate location. // Filter out nil locations if(!newLocation) return; // Make sure that the location returned has the desired accuracy if(newLocation.horizontalAccuracy < manager.desiredAccuracy) return; // Filter out points that are out of order if([newLocation.timestamp timeIntervalSinceDate:oldLocation.timestamp] < 0) return; // Filter out points created before the manager was initialized NSTimeInterval secondsSinceManagerStarted = [newLocation.timestamp timeIntervalSinceDate:locationManagerStartDate]; if(secondsSinceManagerStarted < 0) return; // Also, make sure that the cached location was not returned by the CLLocationManager (it's current) - Check for 5 seconds difference if([newLocation.timestamp timeIntervalSinceReferenceDate] < [[NSDate date] timeIntervalSinceReferenceDate] - 5) return; When i activate the GPS, i get inaccurate results before i actually get an accurate result. What methods do you use to get accurate/precise location information?

  • how to get the value from a CSS class object in javascript

    - by amit
    I have to select an <a> element from the given class of objects. when i click on the anchor tag in the showcase_URL class, i want the jquery function to get the value from <a> tag. How can this be done? I cannot make this an id as I am running a while loop to construct all the elements in php. there would be multiple objects of this class. there is no definite selector through which I can get the value of the anchor tag. Help would be much appreciated. echo '<div id="content">'; echo '<div class="showcase_data">'; echo '<div class="showcase_HEAD">'.$row->title.'</div>'; echo '<div class="showcase_TYPE">'.$row->type.'</div>'; echo '<div class="showcase_date">&nbsp;&nbsp;'.$row->date.'</div>'; echo '<div class="showcase_THUMB" style="float: left;" ></div>'; echo '<div class="showcase_TEXT">'.$row->details.'</div><br/>'; echo '<div class="showcase_URL"><a class="purl" value='.$row->num.'href="'.$row->url.'">PROJECT URL</a></div>'; echo '</div>'; echo '</div>';

  • PHP - REGEX - use string for pattern but exclude it from being removed!

    - by aSeptik
    Hi All guys! i'm pretty new on regex, i have learned something by the way, but is still pour knowledge! so i want ask you for clarification on how it work! assuming i have the following strings, as you can see they can be formatted little different way one from another but they are very similar! DTSTART;TZID="America/Chicago":20030819T000000 DTEND;TZID="America/Chicago":20030819T010000 DTSTART;TZID=US/Pacific DTSTART;VALUE=DATE now i want replace everything between the first A-Z block and the colon so for example i would keep DTSTART:20030819T000000 DTEND:20030819T010000 DTSTART DTSTART so on my very noobs knowledge i have worked out this shitty regex! :-( preg_replace( '/^[A-Z](?!;[A-Z]=[\w\W]+):$/m' , '' , $data ); but why i'm sure this regex will not work!? :-) Pls help me! PS: the title of question is pretty explaned, i want also know how for example use a well know string block for match another... preg_replace( '/^[DTSTART](?!;[A-Z]=[\w\W]+):$/m' , '' , $data ); ..without delete DTSTART Thanks for the time! • How can I test a CRON job with PHP?

    - by alex
    This is the first time I've ever used a CRON. I'm using it to parse external data that is automatically FTP'd to a subdirectory on our site. I have created a controller and model which handles the data. I can access the URL fine in my browser and it works (however I will be restricting this soon). My problem is, how can I test if it's working? I've added this to my controller for a quick and dirty log $file = 'test.txt'; $contents = ''; if (file_exists($file)) { $contents = file_get_contents($file); } $contents .= date('m-d-Y') . ' --- ' . PHP_SAPI . "\n\n"; file_put_contents($file, $contents); But so far only got requests logged from myself from the browser, despite having my CRON running ever minute. 03-18-2010 --- cgi-fcgi 03-18-2010 --- cgi-fcgi I've set it up using cPanel with the command index.php properties/update/ the 2nd portion is what I use to access the page in my browser. So how can I test this is working properly, and have I stuffed anything up? Note: I'm using Kohana 3. Many thanks

  • SVN supports historical merges so how is Mercurial better?

    - by radman
    Hi, I'm a long time SVN user and have been hearing a lot of brou ha ha with regard to mercurial and decentralised version control systems in general. The main touted feature that I am aware of is that merging in Mercurial is much easier because it records information for each merge so each successive merge is aware of the previous ones. Now as stated in the red book, in the section to do with merging, SVN already supports this with mergeinfo. Now I have not actually used this feature (although I wanted to, our repo version wasn't recent enough) but is this SVN feature particularly different to what Mercurial offers? For anyone who is not aware the suggested work flow for historical merging in svn is this: branch from the development trunk to do your own thing. Regularly merge changes from trunk into your branch to stay up to date. Merge back when your done with the mergeinfo to smooth the process. Without historical data merging this is a nightmare because the comparison is strictly on the differences in the files and does not take into account the steps taken on the way. So each change in the development trunk puts you further into possible conflict when you merge back. Now what I would like to know is: Does merging using Mercurial provide a significant advantage when compared with mergeinfo in SVN or is this just a lot of hot air about nothing? Has anyone used the mergeinfo feature in SVN and how good is it actually in practice?

  • De-normalization alternative to specific MYSQL problem?

    - by Booker
    I am facing quite a specific optimization problem. I currently have 4 normalized tables of data. Every second, possibly thousands of users will pull down up-to-date info from these tables using AJAX. The thing is that I can predict relatively easily which subset of data they need... The most recent 100 or so entries in those 4 normalized tables. I have been researching de-normalization... but feel that perhaps there is an easier solution. I was thinking that I could somehow every second run one sql query to condense the needed info, store it in a temp cached table and then have all of the user queries just draw from this. This will allow the complex join of 4 tables to only be run once, and then from there the users just need to do a simple lookup from the cached table. I really don't know if this is feasible. Comments on this or any other suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

  • Why is my UIWebView not scrollable?

    - by Thomas
    In my most frustrating roadblock to date, I've come across a UIWebView that will NOT scroll! I call it via this IBAction: -(IBAction)session2ButtonPressed:(id)sender { Session2ViewController *session2View = [[Session2ViewController alloc]initWithNibName:@"Session2ViewController" bundle:nil]; self.addictionViewController = session2View; [self.view insertSubview:addictionViewController.view atIndex:[self.view.subviews count]]; [session2View release]; } In the viewDidLoad of Session2ViewController.m, I have - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; // TRP - Grab data from plist // TRP - Build file path to the plist NSString *filePath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"Addiction" ofType:@"plist"]; // TRP - Create NSDictionary with contents of the plist NSDictionary *addictionDict = [NSDictionary dictionaryWithContentsOfFile:filePath]; // TRP - Create an array with contents of the dictionary NSArray *addictionData = [addictionDict objectForKey:@"Addiction1"]; NSLog(@"addictionData (array): %@", addictionData); // TRP - Create a string with the contents of the array NSString *addictionText = [NSString stringWithFormat:@"<DIV style='font-family:%@;font-size:%d;'>%@</DIV>", @"Helvetica", 18, [addictionData objectAtIndex:1]]; addictionInfo.backgroundColor = [UIColor clearColor]; // TRP - Load the string created and stored into addictionText and display in the UIWebView [addictionInfo loadHTMLString:addictionText baseURL:nil]; // TODO: MAKE THIS WEBVIEW SCROLL!!!!!! } In the nib, I connected my web view to the delegate and to the outlet. When I run my main project, the plist with my HTML code shows up, but does not scroll. I copied and pasted this code into a new project, wired the nib the exact same way, and badda-boom badda-bing. . . it works. I even tried to create a new nib from scratch in this project, and the exact same code would not work. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Any ideas?? Thanks! Thomas

  • Windows service threading call to WCF service

    - by Sam Brinsted
    Hi, I have a windows service that is reading data from a database and then submitting it to a WCF serivce. Once that has finished it is stamping a processed date on the original record. Trouble I am currently having is to do with threading. The call to the WCF serivce is relatively long and I want to have a number of concurrent calls to the service to help improve the throughput of the windows service. Currently I have a submitToService method on a new worker class. Upon reading a new row from the database I am creating a new thread which is calling this method. This obviously isn't too good as the number of threads quickly shoots up and overburdens the WCF service. I have put a thread.sleep in the submit method and am sure to call System.Threading.Thread.CurrentThread.Abort(); after the submission has finished. However, I don't seem to see the number of threads go down. How can I just have a fixed number of threads that can be used in the windows service? I did think about using a thread pool but read somewhere that wasn't a good choice for a windows service. Thanks very much.

  • How can I print text fields at the right coordinates?

    - by Milad
    I don't have any background in programming and this is my first shot. I wrote a Delphi program that is supposed to print on a result sheet. I work in an institute and we have to establish hundreds of result sheets every 2 months. It's really difficult to do that and different handwriting is also an important issue. I have this code: if PrintDialog.Execute() then begin with MyPrinter do begin MyPrinter.BeginDoc();//Start Printing //Prints First Name MyPrinter.Canvas.TextOut(FirstNameX,FirstNameY,EditFirstName.Text); //Prints Last Name MyPrinter.Canvas.TextOut(LastNameX,LastNameY,EditLastName.Text); //Prints Level MyPrinter.Canvas.TextOut(LevelX,LevelY,EditLevel.Text); //Prints Date MyPrinter.Canvas.TextOut(DateX,DateY,MEditDate.Text); //Prints Student Number MyPrinter.Canvas.TextOut(StdNumX,StdNumY,EditStdnumber.Text); .... MyPrinter.EndDoc();//End Printing end; end; I can't get the right coordinates to print properly. Am I missing something? How can I set the right coordinates? You know TPrinter uses pixels to get the coordinates but papers are measured in inches or centimeters. I'm really confused. I appreciate any help.

  • Voting on Hacker News stories programmatically?

    - by igorgue
    I decided to write an app like: http://michaelgrinich.com/hackernews/ but for Android devices, my idea will use a web application backend (because I rather code in Python and for the web than completely in Java for Android devices). What I have right now implemented is something like this: $ curl -i http://localhost:8080/stories.json?page=1\&stories=1 HTTP/1.0 200 OK Date: Sun, 25 Apr 2010 07:59:37 GMT Server: WSGIServer/0.1 Python/2.6.5 Content-Length: 296 Content-Type: application/json [{"title": "Don\u2019t talk to aliens, warns Stephen Hawking", "url": "http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/science/space/article7107207.ece?", "unix_time": 1272175177, "comments": 15, "score": 38, "user": "chaostheory", "position": 1, "human_time": "Sun Apr 25 01:59:37 2010", "id": "1292241"}] The next step (and final I think) is voting, my design is doing something like this: $ curl -i http://localhost:8080/stories/1?vote=up -u username:password Will vote up and: $ curl -i http://localhost:8080/stories/1?vote=down -u username:password Down. I have no idea how to do it though... I was planning to use Twill but the login link is always different, e.g.: http://news.ycombinator.com/x?fnid=7u89ccHKln Later the Android app will consume this API. Any experience with programmatically browsing Hacker News?

  • How to create instances of related models in Django

    - by sevennineteen
    I'm working on a CMSy app for which I've implemented a set of models which allow for creation of custom Template instances, made up of a number of Fields and tied to a specific Customer. The end-goal is that one or more templates with a set of custom fields can be defined through the Admin interface and associated to a customer, so that customer can then create content objects in the format prescribed by the template. I seem to have gotten this hooked up such that I can create any number of Template objects, but I'm struggling with how to create instances - actual content objects - in those templates. For example, I can define a template "Basic Page" for customer "Acme" which has the fields "Title" and "Body", but I haven't figured out how to create Basic Page instances where these fields can be filled in. Here are my (somewhat elided) models... class Customer(models.Model): ... class Field(models.Model): ... class Template(models.Model): label = models.CharField(max_length=255) clients = models.ManyToManyField(Customer, blank=True) fields = models.ManyToManyField(Field, blank=True) class ContentObject(models.Model): label = models.CharField(max_length=255) template = models.ForeignKey(Template) author = models.ForeignKey(User) customer = models.ForeignKey(Customer) mod_date = models.DateTimeField('Modified Date', editable=False) def __unicode__(self): return '%s (%s)' % (self.label, self.template) def save(self): self.mod_date = datetime.datetime.now() super(ContentObject, self).save() Thanks in advance for any advice!

  • Python: How can I use Twisted as the transport for SUDS?

    - by jathanism
    I have a project that is based on Twisted used to communicate with network devices and I am adding support for a new vendor (Citrix NetScaler) whose API is SOAP. Unfortunately the support for SOAP in Twisted still relies on SOAPpy, which is badly out of date. In fact as of this question (I just checked), twisted.web.soap itself hasn't even been updated in 21 months! I would like to ask if anyone has any experience they would be willing to share with utilizing Twisted's superb asynchronous transport functionality with SUDS. It seems like plugging in a custom Twisted transport would be a natural fit in SUDS' Client.options.transport, I'm just having a hard time wrapping my head around it. I did come up with a way to call the SOAP method with SUDS asynchronously by utilizing twisted.internet.threads.deferToThread(), but this feels like a hack to me. Here is an example of what I've done, to give you an idea: # netscaler is a module I wrote using suds to interface with NetScaler SOAP # Source: http://bitbucket.org/jathanism/netscaler-api/src import netscaler import os import sys from twisted.internet import reactor, defer, threads # netscaler.API is the class that sets up the suds.client.Client object host = 'netscaler.local' username = password = 'nsroot' wsdl_url = 'file://' + os.path.join(os.getcwd(), 'NSUserAdmin.wsdl') api = netscaler.API(host, username=username, password=password, wsdl_url=wsdl_url) results = [] errors = [] def handleResult(result): print '\tgot result: %s' % (result,) results.append(result) def handleError(err): sys.stderr.write('\tgot failure: %s' % (err,)) errors.append(err) # this converts the api.login() call to a Twisted thread. # api.login() should return True and is is equivalent to: # api.service.login(username=self.username, password=self.password) deferred = threads.deferToThread(api.login) deferred.addCallbacks(handleResult, handleError) reactor.run() This works as expected and defers return of the api.login() call until it is complete, instead of blocking. But as I said, it doesn't feel right. Thanks in advance for any help, guidance, feedback, criticism, insults, or total solutions.

  • recommended format to save time with MJD + BCD format in database

    - by pierr
    Hi, There is a time represented in MJD and BCD format with 5 bytes .I am wondering what is the recommended format to save this date-time in the sqlite database so that user can search against it ? My first attempt is to save it just as it is, that is a 5 bytes string. The user will use the same format to search and the result will be converted to unix time by the user with following code. However, later, I was suggested to save the time in the integer - the UTC time, for example. But I can not find a standard way to do the conversion. I feel this is a common issue and would like to hear your comments. time_t sidate_to_unixtime(unsigned char sidate[]) { int k = 0; struct tm tm; double mjd; /* check for the undefined value */ if ((sidate[0] == 0xff) && (sidate[1] == 0xff) && (sidate[2] == 0xff) && (sidate[3] == 0xff) && (sidate[4] == 0xff)) { return -1; } memset(&tm, 0, sizeof(tm)); mjd = (sidate[0] << 8) | sidate[1]; tm.tm_year = (int) ((mjd - 15078.2) / 365.25); tm.tm_mon = (int) (((mjd - 14956.1) - (int) (tm.tm_year * 365.25)) / 30.6001); tm.tm_mday = (int) mjd - 14956 - (int) (tm.tm_year * 365.25) - (int) (tm.tm_mon * 30.6001); if ((tm.tm_mon == 14) || (tm.tm_mon == 15)) k = 1; tm.tm_year += k; tm.tm_mon = tm.tm_mon - 2 - k * 12; tm.tm_sec = bcd_to_integer(sidate[4]); tm.tm_min = bcd_to_integer(sidate[3]); tm.tm_hour = bcd_to_integer(sidate[2]); return mktime(&tm); }

  • Caching Authentication Data

    - by PartlyCloudy
    Hi, I'm currently implementing a REST web service using CouchDB and RESTlet. The RESTlet layer is mainly for authentication and some minor filtering of the JSON data served by CouchDB: Clients <= HTTP = [ RESTlet <= HTTP = CouchDB ] I'm using CouchDB also to store user login data, because I don't want to add an additional database server for that purpose. Thus, each request to my service causes two CouchDB requests conducted by RESTlet (auth data + "real" request). In order to keep the service as efficent as possible, I want to reduce the number of requests, in this case redundant requests for login data. My idea now is to provide a cache (i.e.LRU-Cache via LinkedHashMap) within my RESTlet application that caches login data, because HTTP caching will probabily not be enough. But how do I invalidate the cache data, once a user changes the password, for instance. Thanks to REST, the application might run on several servers in parallel, and I don't want to create a central instance just to cache login data. Currently, I save requested auth data in the cache and try to auth new requests by using them. If a authentication fails or there is now entry available, I'll dispatch a GET request to my CouchDB storage in order to obtain the actual auth data. So in a worst case, users that have changed their data will perhaps still be able to login with their old credentials. How can I deal with that? Or what is a good strategy to keep the cache(s) up-to-date in general? Thanks in advance.
