• Using custom HTML attributes for JavaScript purposes?

  One of my colleagues doesn't like to use HTML classes and ids for javascript/jQuery purpose. Therefore I've seen that he had created custom html attribute such as <div id="myid" class="cssClasses ..." [some-purpose-id]="mycustomId">...</div> I asked him if it was really a good idea and he replied that he considers that classes and Ids should be reserved for styling. Personally, I would have used classes. Some classes would have been used for styling, and some other classes would have been used for programming (jQuery selectors). The idea is to keep things appart also. And of course jQuery could set styling classes but if possible not use them for selection. Of course I also use id when appropriate but since an id is unique on a page, I like to do generic stuff using classes. I would like to know you opinions on the better approach (if there is one).   I have a model that would look something like: my_diet = Diet.new my_diet.food_type_1 = "beef" my_diet.food_type_1_percentage = 40 my_diet.food_type_2 = "carrots" my_diet.food_type_2_percentage = 50 my_diet.food_type_3 = "beans" my_diet.food_type_3_percentage = 5 my_diet.food_type_4 = "chicken" my_diet.food_type_4_percentage = 5 I need to find which food_type has the highest percentage. So far I've tried creating a hash out of the attibutes and percentages then sorting the hash (see below) but it feels like there must be a cleaner way to do it. food_type_percentages = { :food_type_1 => my_diet.foo_type_percentage_1_percentage.nil? ? 0 : my_dient.food_type_1_percentage, :food_type_2 => my_diet.foo_type_percentage_2_percentage.nil? ? 0 : my_dient.food_type_2_percentage, :food_type_3 => my_diet.foo_type_percentage_3_percentage.nil? ? 0 : my_dient.food_type_3_percentage, :food_type_4 => my_diet.foo_type_percentage_4_percentage.nil? ? 0 : my_dient.food_type_4_percentage } food_type_percentages.sort {|a,b| a[1]<=>b[1]}.last Any ideas? • .focus() doesn't work on an input while orher attributes works

  I have a classic table / thead / tbody structure, which I add a line at the end of the tbody. The line contains only an input element. The code works in Firefox 3.6 but not in Chrome v5 or IE8. I'm using jQuery 1.4.1. Does not work: $("#" + AJAX_ID).parent().find('tr:last > td:nth-child(2) > input').focus(); Does work: $("#" + AJAX_ID).parent().find('tr:last > td:nth-child(2) > input').css('background-color', 'red'); even setting an ID on the input, and using document.getElementBuId('id').focus() doesn't work. • Rails, making certain multiparameter attributes optional?

  Is there a method already part of Rails for making certain parameters option when part of a multiparameter attribute, for example say I'm prompting a user for their birthday, when saved the has may look like this: "birthday(2i)"=>"8", "birthday(3i)"=>"17", "birthday(1i)"=>"1980"}, ... But the issue arises when say I want to allow the user to just provide their month and day, making the year optional, how would this work being a datetime object, I'm assuming you can't do this as a date object... but any ideas would be helpful.   I've got a model with its validations, and I found out that I can't update an attribute without validating the object before. I already tried to add on => :create syntax at the end of each validation line, but I got the same results. • Trying to create C++/CLI assembly for use in .NET

  I'm trying to bring a C++ library into C#, so naturally I am trying to make a C++/CLI project. In visual studio I created a new project (Visual C++ project, class library). I then tried to make a test class out of the pre-generated "Class1" namespace Test { public ref class TestIt { public: void DoWork() { System::Console::WriteLine("sup"); } // TODO: Add your methods for this class here. }; } So I compile in and go to the build folder.... hrmm no .dll wetf?? There's a .dll.intermediate.manifest file, but no .dll. So wut I did wrong?

• Static assembly initialization

  I'm attempting to develop an Interceptor framework (in C#) where I can simply implement some interfaces, and through the use of some static initialization, register all my Interceptors with a common Dispatcher to be invoked at a later time. The problem lies in the fact that my Interceptor implementations are never actually referenced by my application so the static constructors never get called, and as a result, the Interceptors are never registered. If possible, I would like to keep all references to my Interceptor libraries out of my application, as this is my way of (hopefully) enforcing loose coupling across different modules. Hopefully this makes some sense. Let me know if there's anything I can clarify... Does anyone have any ideas, or perhaps a better way to go about implementing my Interceptor pattern? TIA, Jeremy

• Multiple System.Web.Extensions assembly in same project?

  Hi, I'm having trouble moving a website from one server to another. It seems to be a problem loading multiple versions of System.Web.Extensions. The code uses version 3.5 in most places but a third party control appears to be needing version 1.0.6. I didn't think this was possible but it appears to be working in it's current situation. Is there a way I can use the GAC version of System.Web.Extensions for the site but import a dll of version 1.0.6 just for these controls?

• Referencing a different project in the same assembly, different namespaces

  I have two projects : Menu and Module and they are both in the same namespace foobar. I am currently referencing the module project from the Menu project to open up certain controls on a tab control in my menu. However I need to launch a new control from one of my controls which is located in the Module project. When I try referencing the menu project, it does not show up in my intellisense when I try to reference it with a using. Am I doing something wrong logically here? • Can I declare the same value for two attributes at once

• My textarea won't accept any width attributes.

  Hi, for some odd reason the text area I have in my site won't accept the width I tell it to, I've tried to select it three times in the CSS just to make sure! Here is a jsfiddle example that shows what I want, and here is the page where it doesn't want to work. I have searched through the CSS to find any conflicting textarea properties, but there are none.   I have a sentence and correction model class Sentence < ActiveRecord::Base has_one :correction class Correction < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :sentence and I'm trying find all sentences which don't have a correction. To do this I'm simply looking for corrections which don't exist i.e. whose id = nil. But it is failing and i can't figure out why Sentence.find :all, :include => :correction, :conditions => {:correction => {:id => nil}} Perhaps its the syntax or maybe just the overall approach.   I'm new here same as I'm new with assembly. I hope that you can help me to start. I'm using 32bit (i686) Ubuntu to make programs in assembly, using gcc compiler. I know that general-purpose-registers are 32bit (4 bytes) max, but what when I have to operate on 64 bit numbers? Intel's instruction says that higher bits are stored in %edx and lower in %eax Great... So how can I do something with this 2-registers number? I have to convert 64bit dec to bin, then save it to memory and show on the screen. How to make the 64bit quadword at start of the program in .data section?

  Hi all, I have a Sites table that has columns name, and time. The name does not have to be unique. So for example I may have the entries 'hi.com, 5', 'hi.com, 10', 'bye.com, 4'. I would like to sum up all the unique sites so that i get 'hi.com, 15' and 'bye.com, 4' for plotting purposes. How can I do that? • XML Serialization in C# without XML attribute nodes

  Hello, I have an XML document format from a legacy system that I have to support in a future application. I want to be able to both serialize and deserialize the XML between XML and C# objects, however, using the objects generated by xsd.exe, the C# serialization includes the xmlns:xsi..., xsi:... etc XML attributes on the root element of the document that gets generated. Is there anyway to disable this so that absolutely no XML attribute nodes get put out in the resulting XML ? The XML document should be elements only. Duplicate? XmlSerializer: remove unnecessary xsi and xsd namespaces
