  I want to write a game as my final year diploma project.(I'm a 4th-year-student now so I've got a year and several months). But I don't know what to choose: either write my own game engine using DirectX9(10)(I don't like OpenGL) or use OGRE + PhysX(Don't like Unity) I'm more interested in writing my own game engine(but I wonder if I'll create engine on the same level as even Unreal 1.0 hah) but on the other side with PhysX I'll have advanced physics in my game and with OGRE I'll have good grahics. For 3d models I want to use Maya. What do you advise me to choose? As for me I've got a little DirectX experience,not bad C++ programming skills(but not expert's) and a little knowledge of Maya. My English isn't perfect either hah...

• Server Setups for Agencies [closed]

  We are considering consolidating our server administration by cutting down on the number of systems we currently use to manage all our websites(~65 websites). Currently we have a testing server and 3 production servers. (2 - cherokee(linode), 1 - apache (mt)) We don't have a dedicated server admin, so I am stuck with managing all these servers, and as a developer, I don't want to deal with all the server hassle. So my main goal is to cut down on the time spent messing with the servers. We have looked at Pagoda Box and AppFog as possibilities. I am not sure if Pagoda Box would be cost effective. With 65+ websites we may end up paying anywhere from 0 to $50+ per website per month. Right now we page about $250 per month for the 4 VPS servers mentioned above. We already use Capistrano for deployment. I have the opportunity to completely overhaul the entire setup and I would like some feedback on where you found your information for large scale server management or how you currently do it. Articles are welcome. In summary: What is new (past 2 years) in simple server management arena? If you work at an agency or have had agency experience, how do/did you manage your sites? a. What is the level of effort for SSL, new site setup, database management, and extension management. b. How did you handle datacenter outages. Anyone with Pagoda Box experience, do you like it and did you have problems with Wordpress, Cakephp, Drupal, Expression Engine or Magento? a. Is it expensive for you? b. How has server uptime been?   My question may look bit philosophical and nonsense! But I need to know kind of instructions those are not well suitable in high level languages even in c? Or rarely use in the development of software? Like read/write content of CPU registers may useful in debugging programs. And access to cache memory required when developing OS (maybe I am wrong at this point). Is this kind of instruction available languages like Java, Python, C? I also have a second question: And Why all high level languages not having same uniform syntax; at-least same standard library interface name? In python there is and. Or operator is almost same as && and ||. I think Python is developed after C but space indentation is compulsory in Python. Why Python does not use brackets {}. I already know this question going to be highly down-voted.

  Possible Duplicate: Does the position of the content in the source make a difference to SEO? When entering a hugely over saturated niche such as web-design, is it even possible to compete with the big sites that have been ranked on google's #1 page for years? Also, I have read about how important titles, link anchors, and headings are for SEO and how content is the most important. So let's say we are building a standard header, body, sidebar, footer page. In the the actual markup, would it be better to make sure the main content comes before the sidebar on the page or does this probably not make a difference?

  Possible Duplicate: How do I report a bug? discovered 2 bugs:: 1)cannot restart the computer when you click the top right icon power key "restart", it will stay on the splash image "ubuntu...",i wait for about 7 minutes and more, it also cannot restart, so, i have to uninstall the battery of the laptop...... 2)when i first update to the 12.10,not run for few hours, the "input method icon" on the top state bar is suddenly hide, when i use the shortcuts to switch the input method with "ctrl +space" it doesn' work at all, i restart the laptop, it can change the input method, but the state icon "a small keyboard icon is escape, i goto the "i bus" settings, but when i how to adjust it, the icon still can't display on the top bar (now i reinstall it use the iso file, this bug is fixed, but it cannot restart like the former one) it must has some problems of the "i bus" input method

This search cannot be based on local database, as it needs live data (of available domains). The only possible way (to me) is to fetch every query from the original NIC (e.g. nic.com), but I was unable to find an API for this service.   Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? I'm having trouble choosing a host that meets my application's needs. Please kindly inform me what I should look for when choosing a web host. My application is similar to a reminder service that reminds users of events that they scheduled. I'm sending emails to users through a PHP script. I'm not sending one email to multiple recipients. Each recipient receives a different message. I plan to use cron jobs every minute and expect the application to send roughly 200 individual emails in 1 hour (for a small user base that may grow). I don't have hosting experience with this type of application. I plan to start on a shared host and move up in the future to vps or dedicated. Most shared hosts that I looked into allow 50-100 emails per hour with delays between mailings. What do you recommend?

  From what I have read Quantity on Hand is the physical number of Items in stock http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/quantity-on-hand.html Quantity Available is Quantity On Hand minus outbound items (e.g Ordered Quantity) http://community.intuit.com/posts/quantity-on-hand-vs-quantity-available-2 Does this still hold for POS? Can there be outbound items in POS system since items are picked up immediately? If not does that mean QtyOnHand = QtyAvailable for POS?

Having tried a few Linux Player over the past years i come to wonder, which Players you prefer and what kind of Players are out there, that you suggest are worth looking into and why!! I used Rhythmbox for a long time, but "Jamendo and Magnatune" plugin are both no longer available in 11.10 and also my covers are not shown, since i stream my music folder from a second partition. aTunes is another great Player, but there are also some flaws which i contacted the developers about.   I am looking to a book covering adavnced programming techniques, covering different practical scenarios and describing the different challanges with the relative solutions. As example, which are the best ways to implement a module for buying on a web application with credit card or how to manage responsivenes for the frontend of the web application itself (dealing with cache, optimeze plugins, etc). On the web there are tons of tutorials about these topics, but I am looking for a book where such cases are collected all together and treated by real professionists. If the book would provide some code samples, that would be a plus (especially if C# .NET), but I am more interested in the approach/solution rather than the code details. I could not find any of these cases in the general book about programming, therefore I hope someone might point me in the right direction. EDIT: I have 4 years experience as web developer, mainly with Microsoft (C#, ASP.NET, SQL Server) and client side technologies (jQuery, HTML/CSS).

No window management system or other libs such as GLUT, GLFW, SDL, SFML etc. Just OpenGL. OpenGL and GLEW. EDIT: Issue has been solved.

  A google scholar search turns up numerous papers on testability, including models for computing testability, recommendations for how ones code can be more testable, etc. They all come with the assertion that more testable code is more stable, however I can't find any studies which actually demonstrate this. I tried looking for studies evaluating the effect of testable code vs. quality, however the closest I can find is Improving the Testability of Object Oriented Systems, which discusses the relationship between design flaws and testability. Is testable code is actually more stable? And why, or why not? Please back up your answers with references or evidence to back up your claim.

I started learning website making by having tutorials from w3schools.com but after doing taking the HTML tutorials I don't think I really can do anything with it. Maybe I don't know everything about HTML yet. I know the online tutorials are not enough but what I need you guys to tell me is that how can I learn making some nice websites. I have vacations for two months now and I think it would be the best time for me to learn making websites as I really love to be a website developer. Now I would like to start from the scratch. I know some C language (though I know it will not help me). So tell me from where shall I learn HTML and what all things shall I learn after that and in what order. If you can also help me with the material (let it be books or online tutorials). But I would like to know how can I gain confidence that I can make some websites as just learning online tutorials doesn't help me much. I also tried some video tutorials but in that too, they will just tell me some of the functions and not all. So what am I supposed to do.. just know a limited functions as they want me to know in video tutorials or do something else.

  Sorry, this is going to be long and rambly. So, at home my network is set up as such: I have a "master router" that handles DHCP, from there I have a basic 5 port switch, and coming off that, I have a second router that I put in access point mode so that I could have better wireless coverage in my house. I cant seem to access it through a web browser since the master router kicked in and assigned it an ip address. But, i told you all that story, so that i could tell you this story. At the company I work for, they are trying to set up wireless cameras, according to the manual for these, in order to connect these cameras to our network, we need to get into the wireless router and associate the router with the cameras, but the problem is, the network is setup like my home network. Theres a "master router" which is a windows 2003 server, and then a wireless router in AP mode dishing out wireless access. I cant get into the router (by the way I'm not the system admin for the company, nor do i know jack squat about windows server , nor can I easily get in contact with the system admin. (quite the cluster f*k, eh?)) I've tried using wireshark to find the routers ip, dug through arp tables, tried plugging straight into the router, but I cant seem to get into the damn thing. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Now I want to improve the chance it will appear in google search results; however, my web CV is a one-paged site and it contains only internal links (those with hash #) so I can't really submit a sitemap. I could have changed the internal links to normal links to be processed on server-side, but there's no point of doing so. I'm very new to web SEO so I would really appreciate if somebody can show me what should I do with a single-paged site with internal links to be effectively indexed by crawlers.

  I have two identical table ie all the columns are identical and one of the datatype is Text, one is varchar(255) and the rest are int. Lets say the table name is 'AAAAA'. Table AAAAA was processed and backed up earlier this month. Both the tables were storing data and now the second table is only storing data. I need to find unmatching records from the second table (BBBBB) which is storing data right now and add those records to Table AAAAA. Your help will be highly appreciated. • Good quality Secure Software Development Training [closed]

  Just had my annual appraisal and found out my company is willing to pay for training and exams etc! Woohoo (they kept that one quiet). I'm interested in doing a course on secure development techniques. Has anyone got any suggestions for good quality distance learning courses in secure development (I could probably get a couple of days off to attend a conference/ course if required)? We're mostly an MS .Net house but I have no particular allegiance to MS or any other programming language (though, obviously, C++ is the best language in the world). I have 12 years development experience working in (what are now) PCI:DSS environments, including designing and developing a key management system and I have some knowledge of basic attacks (XSS, injection etc). I would prefer a hard course I struggle with to a basic course I learn 3 things from (but hopefully get something right at my level).
