Given adequate explanation and immediate answers to questions Able to compile code and check answers / progress Claims to be a senior level programmer How long should it take an interviewee to answer FizzBuzz correctly? Edit: FizzBuzz: Write a program that prints the numbers from 1 to 100. But for multiples of three print "Fizz" instead of the number and for the multiples of five print "Buzz". For numbers which are multiples of both three and five print "FizzBuzz". Edit: It isn't so much that if they take more then X minutes they are disqualified, but I am curious if I should just cut them loose after they work on it for half hour.

  Hi, As a nerd, I think it would be nice to have a TeX editor on the iPad. But TeX is a Turing-complete language, and it is arguably a general-purpose compiler/interpreter. Does that make it unacceptable to the App Store? Furthermore, if somebody ports TeX compiler to javascript and runs inside WebKit, does it make acceptable to the App Store? FYI, here's the section of the developer's agreement: 3.3.2 An Application may not itself install or launch other executable code by any means, including without limitation through the use of a plug-in architecture, calling other frameworks, other APIs or otherwise.   I'm currently building a code generator, which aim to generate boiler plate for me once i wrote the templates and/or translations, whatever the language i have to work with, and it has an educationnal part :p. So i have a problem with a regex in ruby. The regex aim to select whatever is between {{{ and }}}, so i can generae functions according to my needs. My regex is currently : /\{\{\{(([a-zA-Z]|\s)+)\}\}\}/m My test data set {{{Demande aaa}}} = {{{tagadatsouintsouin tutu}}} The results are : [["Demande aaa", "a"], ["tagadatsouintsouin tutu", "u"]] So the regex pick each time the last character twice. But, that's not exactly what i want, my need is more about this : /\{\{\{((\w|\W)+)\}\}\}/m But this as a flaw too, the results : [["Demande aaa}}} = {{{tagadatsouintsouin tutu", "u"]] Whereas, i wish to get [["Demande aaa"],["tagadatsouintsouin tutu"]] Any ideas to correct theses regex ? I could use 2 sets of delimiters, but it won't learn me anything.

• Advanced Java book in the lines of CLR via c# or C# in Depth?

  I want to learn about how things work in depth in Java. Coming from a c# background, there were a couple of very good books that go really deep in c# (C# in depth, CLR via c#, just to name the most popular). Is there anything like that in Java? I searched it up on amazon but nothing seemed to go that deep in Java as the two above go in c#. I don't want to know more about specific classes, or how to use this library or that other library, I want to learn how the objects are created on memory, how they get created on the stack, heap, etc. A more fundamental knowledge, let's say. I've read some chapters of Effective Java and The Java Programming Language but they don't seem to go so deep as I'd want them to go. Maybe there are other people that know both c# and Java that have read any of the referred books and know any that might be useful? Thanks

• Someone is using the struct name as a variable name too. What does the code really say? (c++)

  This morning we found an old chunk of code that was causing a library call to crash. struct fred { int a; int b; int c; }; fred fred[MAX_SIZE+1]; memset( fred, 0, sizeof(fred) * MAX_SIZE+1 ); It appears that the sizeof(fred) may have been the full array size, rather than the structure size, as it was overwriting a great deal of memory. The fact that it compiled without warning on several different systems seemed odd. Is there a correct semantic for this case where the type and variable name are colliding? or is this some sort of undefined behavior? or just a defect? I haven't been been clever enough to find anything on Google or our language help. Thanks Evil

  I have been checking out Groovy a bit and I feel that moving a Java program to Groovy little by little -- grabbing a class and making it a Groovy class, then converting the method guts a bit at a time -- might be a relatively sane way to take advantage of some of the Groovy language features. I would also do new classes in Groovy. Questions: Is this a reasonable way to convert? Can I keep all of my public methods and and fields in Java? Groovy is "just" a superset, right? What kinds of things would you not do in Groovy, but prefer Java instead?

I've come across something that's fairly obvious in mathematics, but not so obvious to a strongly typed system -- the fact that a 1x1 matrix is just a number. To avoid this, I started walking down the hairy path of matrices as a composition of vectors, but also stumbled upon the fact that two vectors multiplied together could either be a number or a dyad, depending on the orientation of the two. My question is, what is the right way to deal with this situation in a strongly typed language like C++ or Java?

  Hi, The question is about Armenian. I'm using sql server 2005, collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS, data mostly is in Armenian and we can't use unicode. I tested on ms sql 2008 with a windows collation for armenian language ( Cyrillic_General_100_ ), I have found here, ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188046.aspx ) but it didn't help. I have a function, that orders hex values and a lower function, which takes each char in each string and converts it to it's lower form, but it's not acceptable solution, it works really slow, calling that functions on every column of a huge table. Is there any solution for this issue not using unicode and not working with hex values manually?

  Hello, I need to write Hebrew text in Latex. I am currently working on Windows with TeXnicCenter. I was pretty happy with this tool, up until the time when I needed to write Hebrew text. My regular alt-shift just won't change the language (I even downloaded the last alpha version, which was supposed to solve the problem, but it didn't). So I'm looking for another latex editor for windows that will let me write Hebrew. Please advice. Note: I know that it is possible with Lyx, but I prefer a real Latex editor.

Either searching the web for a script, etc. Anyone got a script that you can just edit the out-of-box pre-commit.tmpl in a Windows environment that requires x chars to be entered in for a comment on commit in Tortoise Subversion globally so that all members on the team are required whereas this requirement is pushed down to the clients from SVN server? • Using Connection Based State with Apache2

  I am writing an HTTPS based application using Apache2 as the web server, and python as the language (not sure which framework or Apache2 mod yet). After clients (which are not web browsers) first establish an HTTPS connection to the server, they are expected to send an authentication message. If authentication is successful, they are able to send more commands, until the connection is closed (HTTP 1.1 will be used, with a long keep alive time). My question is, is it possible to have state associated with the connection? I don't want the client to have to send cookies or session ids -- the HTTPS application should be able to figure out the session based on the connection that each request belongs to...the question is how?

The way I see it, is that I have two choices to check this code: 1: public void GetEmployee(Employee employee) { bool exists = EmployeeRepository.VerifyIdExists(Employee.Id); if (!exists) { throw new Exception("Id does not exist); } } or 2: public void GetEmployee(Employee employee) { EmployeeRepository.AssertIfNotFound(Employee.Id); } Is option #2 acceptable in the C# language? I like it because it's tidy in that i don't like looking at "throw new Exception("bla bla bla") type messages outsite the class scope.

  Hi, I recently started to use AjaxControlToolkit v3.0.30930.0 in my application together with System.Web.Extension 3.5. My development environment is Visual Studio 2005, .NET Framework 2.0 and the development language is C#. The Ajax control I used is the ModalPopupExtender. I also used the UpdatePanel and updateprogress controls. Everything is working fine on my development machine. But I got a problem after I deployed the application to a server which does not have System.Web.Extension 3.5 installed, which is understandable. My question is, can the ajax controls I used work without System.Web.Extension 3.5? Say I revert the ajaxcontroltoolkit back to version 1.0.61025.0?   Hello every one, I'm using PHP with MYSQL database as both are open source and easy to use. I'm getting problem when I execute insert and/or update of millions of row one after another while this operation perform I got the MYSQL error that: 'max_user_connections' active connections which is the best way to solve this problem. I already converted the Java code to C# code manually and also using JCLA (Java Language Conversion Assistant from Microsoft). What is the best way to convert the JSF part to ASP.NET? Is there any tool that can help shorten the work? For example convert JSF <t:dataList> to ASP.NET datagrid, or converting panelGroup to asp:panel, etc...

• How to extract semi-precise frequencies from a WAV file using Fourier Transforms

  Let us say that I have a WAV file. In this file, is a series of sine tones at precise 1 second intervals. I want to use the FFTW library to extract these tones in sequence. Is this particularly hard to do? How would I go about this? Also, what is the bast way to write tones of this kind into a WAV file? I assume I would only need a simple audio library for the output.
