  How can I use the ListView_GetBkImage macro: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb761246(v=VS.85).aspx ... from a C#/WinForms application? I think this macro just wraps the SendMessage method, but I'm not sure. I couldn't find any C#-based samples on this. Basically I'm trying to get a LVBKIMAGE ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb774742(v=VS.85).aspx ) structure that references the Desktop's background bitmap.

  I am generating a .cxml file on the server and pushing it to the browser based on certain queries. If I just link to a .cxml, it does what I expected and opens it in the respective application. How can I generate a file and push it to the browser just like if it was linked to a file without it asking me to download it? I want to do the equivalent of: int a=3; int b=a; To make this concrete, I have a variable defining the date: !define clock.date {2/2/2009} I then want to define some other variable ${other.date} based on it, something like: !define other.date {=${clock.date}=} However, this doesn't work. Is there any way to do this?

• What is an efficient way to find a non-colliding rectangle nearest to a location

  For a 2D game I am working on, I am using y axis sorting in a simple rectangle-based collision detection. This is working fine, and now I want to find the nearest empty rectangle at a given location with a given size, efficiently. How can I do this? Is there an algorithm? I could think of a simple brute force grid test (with each grid the size of the empty space we're looking for) but obviously this is slow and not even a complete test.

  Another opinion question: What is the proper (in your opinion) to check for nulls in an MVC controller. For instance, if you have an edit controller that fetches a record from the db based on an id, what do you do if that record is not found? I found this article, but I'm not sure I like that method. Do you just check for it with an if statement and redirect to a 404 page? What solution do you use?

I want to write an application that gets notified when emails come into the device, and takes various actions based on data in the email (subject, sender, to, etc). • PHP 6 not backward compatible

  From what I read, PHP 6 will break a lot of php scripts. I understand the reasons why it may break but why don't they just keep the PHP 5 and simply call PHP 6 as a different language based on PHP syntax? Like for example, why not just call php 6 scripts with an extension, "p6"- why are they trying so hard to make it backward compatible for old scripts when the extension can be used to call a specific interpreter?
