Integration of Photoshop and MySQL

I’m working to integrate Photoshop (CS4, local) with MySQL (Linux, remote), such that: a) image file information, data and meta data can be exported from PS into MySQL where same can be manipulated both manually and calculated, and then b) the MySQL fields can be referenced in Photoshop scripting for further automated image file manipulation, and c) the MySQL fields can be referenced for other purposes such as dynamic propagation of files and associated file data to a website, for example. I’ve spent many hours running searches for these concepts on StackOverflow, Google, and Adobe Support. I’m coming up empty, which leads me to believe that it’s not natively possible, and that I’ll need some middle language like PHP. Does anyone know if it’s possible for Photoshop and MySQL to bi-directionally share data? If so, how? If that’s not possible, what solution(s) might you recommend, in terms of specific tools/technologies that I can research further. Thank you.

WCF Service Library Reference in a Web Form (asp.net)

i am not sure if this is the correct way of doing but i read that you not suppose to have a WCF Service Library reference in your web form project rather you add endpoints to your web.config, is that true? here is what i have done: 1) create a WCF service library project 2) create a simple service called "MyService.svc" WebForm: 1) Create a web project 2) create a WCF Service and in it i have this code <%@ ServiceHost Language="C#" Service="WCFJQuery.ContactBLL.Implementation.ContactUs" Factory="System.ServiceModel.Activation.WebScriptServiceHostFactory" %> 3) right click on the web proejct and "Add Reference" and add teh MyService.dll reference from WCF service library project. is this something how you suppose to do?

project organization between x86 and x64

I have a mixed language solution in VS2008. I would like to structure the bin such that I have bin\x86\Release and bin\x64\Release among the other options. I can do something like this if I have all C# or all C++, but as the platform names don't overlap (x86 vs. Win32) between C++ and C#, I can't seem to do this with the macros (and have an easy solution). I've tried to add a new platform and it won't let me. Is there an easy way to do this?

What are some simple ways to hash a 32-bit integer (e.g. IP address, e.g. Unix time_t, etc.) down to a 16-bit integer? E.g. hash_32b_to_16b(0x12345678) might return 0xABCD. XSLT: Is there a way to "inherit" canned functionality?

i am once again having to cobble together a bit of XSLT into order to turn generated XML into (rather than simply generating HTML). i'm having huge deja-vu this time again. i'm once again having to solve again basic problems, e.g.: how to convert characters into valid html entity references how to preserve whitespace/carriage returns when converting to html how to convert to HTML as opposed to xhtml how to convert dates from xml format into presentable format how to tear apart strings with substring This is all stuff that i've solved many times before. But every time i come back to XSLT i have to start from scratch, re-inventing the wheel every time. If it were a programming language i would have a library of canned functions and procedures i can call. i would have subroutines to perform the commonly repeated tasks. i would inherit from a base class that already implements the ugly boilerplate stuff. Is there any way in XSLT to grow, expand and improve the ecosystem with canned code?

Why use Oracle Application Express for web app?

Hi all. I believe we're moving to Oracle Apex for future development. I've read about Oracle Apex on wikipedia and it's pro and con. It seem to me the con outweigh the pro but maybe I'm wrong. I get the sense that Oracle Apex is for DBA with little or no programing knowledge to setup a web app quickly sort like MS Access for none programmer. If you have Oracle Apex working experience, can you share your though? From wikipedia's entry, it doesn't seem like you need to know any programming language at all but just the PL/SQL? edit: Is Oracle Apex scalable? Can it handle traffic like Facebook's size? Thank. Memory-Mapped Files & Transparent Persistence of Java Objects

Greeting All, I want to achieve transparent persistence of Java objects through memory-mapped files (utilize the OS paging/swapping mechanism). My problem is: how can I move a Java object to my memory-mapped block ? Plus, how can I force a new object instance to reside in such blocks ? As you all know, a memory-mapped block can be seen as a byte array, and what I am really asking here is how to overlap the address space of Java objects with the one of such arrays ? If Java does not allow me for this, what cross-platform & garbage-collecting OO language would you advise me to use ? Thank you all in advance.

Efficient heaps in purely functional languages

As an exercise in Haskell, I'm trying to implement heapsort. The heap is usually implemented as an array in imperative languages, but this would be hugely inefficient in purely functional languages. So I've looked at binary heaps, but everything I found so far describes them from an imperative viewpoint and the algorithms presented are hard to translate to a functional setting. How to efficiently implement a heap in a purely functional language such as Haskell? Edit: By efficient I mean it should still be in O(n*log n), but it doesn't have to beat a C program. Also, I'd like to use purely functional programming. What else would be the point of doing it in Haskell?

Making an animated taskbar app

Hi. I have a HP notebook (running XP). I have seen on IBM computers, that they have a power-meter (it looks like a bar). It displays percentage of power left in battery. It is displayed in the taskbar. Not in the systemtray. Either on the left side or the right side of the potential language toolbar. The application is animated, since the percentage of power (0-100%) chances. It fills up the bar with a green color according to the percentage. So half would be colored green if the power is down to 50%. Now, since it is an IBM application for IBM notebooks, I want/need to make a copy of it. My real question is though, how do I make an animated taskbar application?

I'm working on a Project with outdated, very old looking GUI (the used GUI framework is more than 10 years old) Since the used programming language is Eiffel, there are almost no good libraries for GUI development. Although Wrappers for C libraries exist, it's not that easy to wrap something like Qt with them. The current GUI framework uses the Windows API to create windows, widgets and so on. But as stated - it's very old. Now i would like to learn more about how to use the Windows API directly to create state of the art GUI's Can someone recommend any reading material? Thanks!

Is there anyway of making json data readable by a Google spider?

Is it possible to make JSON data readable by a Google spider? Say for instance that I have a JSON feed that contains the data for an e-commerce site. This JSON data is used to populate a human-readable page in the users browser. (I.E. The translation from JSON data to human displayed page is done inside the users browser; not my choice, just what I've been given to work with, its an old legacy CGI application and not an actual server-side scripting language.) My concern here is that, the google spiders will not be able to pickup/directly link to the item in question when a user clicks on it in google, being presented with an index page full of all the items, rather than being linked directly to the item they clicked on. Is there anyway of "informing" the google spider in the JSON that what they should feed the user a different link?

I am trying to have an email signup form on one page populate the email block on another page by passing it through the url and pulling it out with document.write. Hi All, I have two nvarchar fields in database to store the DataType and DefaultValue, I have a DataType Double and value as 65.89875 in english format. Now I want the user to see the value as per the selected browser language format (65.89875 in English should be displayed as 65,89875 in german). Now if the user edits from german format to 65,89875 which is 65.89875 equivalent in english, and the other user views from english browser it comes as 6589875. This happens because in DB it was stored as 65,89875 and when converted using english culture it becomes 6589875 since it considers , as seperator. Any Idea how I get this working for all the browsers?

How to use ORDER BY, LOWER .. in SQL SERVER 2008 with non-unicode languages

Hi, The question is about Armenian. I'm using sql server 2005, collation SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS, data mostly is in Armenian and we can't use unicode. I tested on ms sql 2008 with a windows collation for armenian language ( Cyrillic_General_100_ ), I have found here, ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms188046.aspx ) but it didn't help. I have a function, that orders hex values and lower function, which takes each char in string and covnerts it to it's lower form, but it's not acceptable solution, it works really slow, calling that functions on every column of a huge table. Is there any solution for this issue not using unicode and working with hex values manually?

Dynamic choices for Django SelectMultiple Widget

I'm building a form (not modelForm) where i'd like to use the SelectMultiple Widget to display choices based on a query done during the init of the form. I can think of a few way to do this but I am not exactly clear on the right way to do it. I see different options. Controller getting NULL value?

Critiquing my first Python script

A little bit of background: I'm building an inverted index for a search engine. I was originally using PHP, but because of the amount of times I needed to write to disk, I wanted to make a threaded indexer. There's a problem with that because PHP is not thread safe. I then tried Java, but I ended up with at least 20 try catch blocks because of the JSON data structure I was using and working with files. The code was just too big and ugly. Then I figured I should pick up some Python because it's flexible like PHP but also thread safe. Though I'm open to all criticism, what I'd like to learn is the shortcuts that the Python language/library provides that I skipped over. This is a PHP-afide Python script because all I really did was translate the PHP script line by line to what I thought was it's Python equivalent. Thanks. http://pastebin.com/xrg7rf9w

Quartz2d vector images vs OpenGL vector description?

How big of a difference is the description language of Quartz2d to OpenGL ES? It seems they are similar in description power... except that Quartz is mostly 2d and that OpenGL is out of the box 3d ( but can be made 2d focused ). Are the mappings from 2dQuartz to 2d OpenGL ES that different? Im sure there must be differences in some specific features that might be handled differently on one vs another... but to do a translator? Anyone have experience with both OpenGL and Quartz2d have some insights?

Restoring a "Canceled" event with Google Calendar API?

I'm trying to change the status of an event back from "canceled" to "confirmed" using Google Calendar API (I'm using .NET but an answer in any language would help) but I get GDataRequestException error: "You can't modify a cancelled event" If I've used the API to delete an event in a repeating series, for example, is it possible to change the status of the resulting recurrence exception (there's no EXDATE, just a new "canceled" event that is only visible when the feed is requested with start and end date) to "confirmed" (or even delete the resulting exception completely) in order to restore the repeating series to the original state? event.Delete() and event.Update() don't even see the event any longer once it's been .canceled. event.Update() gives the above error. I'm very curious about old programming languages, especially COBOL, and as Wikipedia couldn't really tell me much about this topic, I decided to ask it here: Was COBOL the first programming language really being used in financial, stock and banking systems? Where exactly was COBOL used? Was it used more frequently than Fortran or BASIC, for example? I don't know if you lived at that time, but how did people react to the rising COBOL? Did they expect it to be the future? When has COBOL actually stopped being used to create new, big systems? Are you sure that there are still important legacy apps written in COBOL out there? I can't believe that somehow.

Why are alloc and init called separately in Objective-C?

Note: I'm relatively new to Objective-C and am coming from Java and PHP. Could someone explain to me why I always have to first allocate and then initialize an instance? Couldn't this be done in the init methods like this: + (MyClass*)init { MyClass *instance = [MyClass alloc]; [instance setFoo:@"bla"]; return instance; } + (MyClass*)initWithString:(NSString*)text { MyClass *instance = [MyClass init]; [instance setFoo:text]; return instance; } ... Is this just a relict from the old C days or is there something that I'm not seeing? I know this isn't a problem as I could as well always call alloc and init, but since it's a bit tedious I'd like to at least know why I'm doing it. I'm liking the expressiveness of the language so far, but this is something that I want to fully understand in order to think the Objective-C way. Thank you!
