• Using Recursive SQL and XML trick to PIVOT(OK, concat) a "Document Folder Structure Relationship" table, works like MySQL GROUP_CONCAT

- by Kevin Shyr
I'm in the process of building out a Data Warehouse and encountered this issue along the way.In the environment, there is a table that stores all the folders with the individual level. For example, if a document is created here:{App Path}\Level 1\Level 2\Level 3\{document}, then the DocumentFolder table would look like this:IDID_ParentFolderName1NULLLevel 121Level 232Level 3To my understanding, the table was built so that:Each proposal can have multiple documents stored at various locationsDifferent users working on the proposal will have different access level to the folder; if one user is assigned access to a folder level, she/he can see all the sub folders and their content.Now we understand from an application point of view why this table was built this way. But you can quickly see the pain this causes the report writer to show a document link on the report. I wasn't surprised to find the report query had 5 self outer joins, which is at the mercy of nobody creating a document that is buried 6 levels deep, and not to mention the degradation in performance.With the help of 2 posts (at the end of this post), I was able to come up with this solution:Use recursive SQL to build out the folder pathUse SQL XML trick to concat the strings.Code (a reminder, I built this code in a stored procedure. If you copy the syntax into a simple query window and execute, you'll get an incorrect syntax error) Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-priority:99; mso-style-qformat:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin-top:0in; mso-para-margin-right:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:10.0pt; mso-para-margin-left:0in; line-height:115%; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:11.0pt; font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"; mso-ascii-font-family:Calibri; mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-fareast; mso-hansi-font-family:Calibri; mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin; mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman"; mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;} -- Get all folders and group them by the original DocumentFolderID in PTSDocument table;WITH DocFoldersByDocFolderID(PTSDocumentFolderID_Original, PTSDocumentFolderID_Parent, sDocumentFolder, nLevel)AS (-- first member SELECT 'PTSDocumentFolderID_Original' = d1.PTSDocumentFolderID , PTSDocumentFolderID_Parent , 'sDocumentFolder' = sName , 'nLevel' = CONVERT(INT, 1000000) FROM (SELECT DISTINCT PTSDocumentFolderID FROM dbo.PTSDocument_DY WITH(READPAST) ) AS d1 INNER JOIN dbo.PTSDocumentFolder_DY AS df1 WITH(READPAST) ON d1.PTSDocumentFolderID = df1.PTSDocumentFolderID UNION ALL -- recursive SELECT ddf1.PTSDocumentFolderID_Original , df1.PTSDocumentFolderID_Parent , 'sDocumentFolder' = df1.sName , 'nLevel' = ddf1.nLevel - 1 FROM dbo.PTSDocumentFolder_DY AS df1 WITH(READPAST) INNER JOIN DocFoldersByDocFolderID AS ddf1 ON df1.PTSDocumentFolderID = ddf1.PTSDocumentFolderID_Parent)-- Flatten out folder path, DocFolderSingleByDocFolderID(PTSDocumentFolderID_Original, sDocumentFolder)AS (SELECT dfbdf.PTSDocumentFolderID_Original , 'sDocumentFolder' = STUFF((SELECT '\' + sDocumentFolder FROM DocFoldersByDocFolderID WHERE (PTSDocumentFolderID_Original = dfbdf.PTSDocumentFolderID_Original) ORDER BY PTSDocumentFolderID_Original, nLevel FOR XML PATH ('')),1,1,'') FROM DocFoldersByDocFolderID AS dfbdf GROUP BY dfbdf.PTSDocumentFolderID_Original) And voila, I use the second CTE to join back to my original query (which is now a CTE for Source as we can now use MERGE to do INSERT and UPDATE at the same time).Each part of this solution would not solve the problem by itself because:If I don't use recursion, I cannot build out the path properly. If I use the XML trick only, then I don't have the originating folder ID info that I need to link to the document.If I don't use the XML trick, then I don't have one row per document to show in the report.I could conceivably do this in the report function, but I'd rather not deal with the beginning or ending backslash and how to attach the document name.PIVOT doesn't do strings and UNPIVOT runs into the same problem as the above.I'm excited that each version of SQL server provides us new tools to solve old problems and/or enables us to solve problems in a more elegant wayThe 2 posts that helped me along:Recursive Queries Using Common Table ExpressionHow to use GROUP BY to concatenate strings in SQL server?

• Making a ViewFlipper like the Home Screen using MotionEvent.ACTION_MOVE

- by DJTripleThreat
Ok I have a ViewFlipper with three LinearLayouts nested inside it. It defaults to showing the first one. This code: // Assumptions in my Activity class: // oldTouchValue is a float // vf is my view flipper @Override public boolean onTouchEvent(MotionEvent touchEvent) { switch (touchEvent.getAction()) { case MotionEvent.ACTION_DOWN: { oldTouchValue = touchEvent.getX(); break; } case MotionEvent.ACTION_UP: { float currentX = touchEvent.getX(); if (oldTouchValue < currentX) { vf.setInAnimation(AnimationHelper.inFromLeftAnimation()); vf.setOutAnimation(AnimationHelper.outToRightAnimation()); vf.showNext(); } if (oldTouchValue > currentX) { vf.setInAnimation(AnimationHelper.inFromRightAnimation()); vf.setOutAnimation(AnimationHelper.outToLeftAnimation()); vf.showPrevious(); } break; } case MotionEvent.ACTION_MOVE: { // TODO: Some code to make the ViewFlipper // act like the home screen. break; } } return false; } public static class AnimationHelper { public static Animation inFromRightAnimation() { Animation inFromRight = new TranslateAnimation( Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, +1.0f, Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, 0.0f, Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, 0.0f, Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, 0.0f); inFromRight.setDuration(350); inFromRight.setInterpolator(new AccelerateInterpolator()); return inFromRight; } public static Animation outToLeftAnimation() { Animation outtoLeft = new TranslateAnimation( Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, 0.0f, Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, -1.0f, Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, 0.0f, Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, 0.0f); outtoLeft.setDuration(350); outtoLeft.setInterpolator(new AccelerateInterpolator()); return outtoLeft; } // for the next movement public static Animation inFromLeftAnimation() { Animation inFromLeft = new TranslateAnimation( Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, -1.0f, Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, 0.0f, Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, 0.0f, Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, 0.0f); inFromLeft.setDuration(350); inFromLeft.setInterpolator(new AccelerateInterpolator()); return inFromLeft; } public static Animation outToRightAnimation() { Animation outtoRight = new TranslateAnimation( Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, 0.0f, Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, +1.0f, Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, 0.0f, Animation.RELATIVE_TO_PARENT, 0.0f); outtoRight.setDuration(350); outtoRight.setInterpolator(new AccelerateInterpolator()); return outtoRight; } } ... handles the view flipping but the animations are very "on/off". I'm wondering if someone can help me out with the last part. Assuming that I can access the LinearLayouts, is there a way where I can set the position of the layouts based on deltaX and deltaY? Someone gave me this link: https://android.git.kernel.org/?p=platform/frameworks/base.git;a=blob;f=core/java/android/view/animation/TranslateAnimation.java;h=d2ff754ac327dda0fe35e610752abb78904fbb66;hb=HEAD and said I should refer to the applyTransformation method for hints on how to do this but I don't know how to repeat this same behavior.

• Parse.com REST API in Java (NOT Android)

- by Orange Peel
I am trying to use the Parse.com REST API in Java. I have gone through the 4 solutions given here https://parse.com/docs/api_libraries and have selected Parse4J. After importing the source into Netbeans, along with importing the following libraries: org.slf4j:slf4j-api:jar:1.6.1 org.apache.httpcomponents:httpclient:jar:4.3.2 org.apache.httpcomponents:httpcore:jar:4.3.1 org.json:json:jar:20131018 commons-codec:commons-codec:jar:1.9 junit:junit:jar:4.11 ch.qos.logback:logback-classic:jar:0.9.28 ch.qos.logback:logback-core:jar:0.9.28 I ran the example code from https://github.com/thiagolocatelli/parse4j Parse.initialize(APP_ID, APP_REST_API_ID); // I replaced these with mine ParseObject gameScore = new ParseObject("GameScore"); gameScore.put("score", 1337); gameScore.put("playerName", "Sean Plott"); gameScore.put("cheatMode", false); gameScore.save(); And I got that it was missing org.apache.commons.logging, so I downloaded that and imported it. Then I ran the code again and got Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError: org.slf4j.spi.LocationAwareLogger.log(Lorg/slf4j/Marker;Ljava/lang/String;ILjava/lang/String;Ljava/lang/Throwable;)V at org.apache.commons.logging.impl.SLF4JLocationAwareLog.debug(SLF4JLocationAwareLog.java:120) at org.apache.http.client.protocol.RequestAddCookies.process(RequestAddCookies.java:122) at org.apache.http.protocol.ImmutableHttpProcessor.process(ImmutableHttpProcessor.java:131) at org.apache.http.impl.execchain.ProtocolExec.execute(ProtocolExec.java:193) at org.apache.http.impl.execchain.RetryExec.execute(RetryExec.java:85) at org.apache.http.impl.execchain.RedirectExec.execute(RedirectExec.java:108) at org.apache.http.impl.client.InternalHttpClient.doExecute(InternalHttpClient.java:186) at org.apache.http.impl.client.CloseableHttpClient.execute(CloseableHttpClient.java:82) at org.apache.http.impl.client.CloseableHttpClient.execute(CloseableHttpClient.java:106) at org.apache.http.impl.client.CloseableHttpClient.execute(CloseableHttpClient.java:57) at org.parse4j.command.ParseCommand.perform(ParseCommand.java:44) at org.parse4j.ParseObject.save(ParseObject.java:450) I could probably fix this with another import, but I suppose then something else would pop up. I tried the other libraries with similar results, missing a bunch of libraries. Has anyone actually used REST API successfully in Java? If so, I would be grateful if you shared which library/s you used and anything else required to get it going successfully. I am using Netbeans. Thanks.

• What is crtbegin.o and crtbegin_dynamic.o?

- by theactiveactor
When debugging a link error (undefined reference to _dso_handle) using the Android x86 toolchain, I noticed it's statically linking crtbegin_dynamic.o. What is the purpose of this file? There is another similar crtbegin.o in the toolchain install directory that contains the missing symbol (_dso_handle). What is the difference between crtbegin.o and crtbegin_dynamic.o?

• Warning: This class was probably produced by a broken compiler.

- by Michal Dymel
I have added Jacson libs to my android project and now I am getting such warnings in console: warning: Ignoring InnerClasses attribute for an anonymous inner class that doesn't come with an associated EnclosingMethod attribute. (This class was probably produced by a broken compiler.) I've tried to recompile libs, but it didn't help. Warnings are gone when I remove these libs from project. Everything is working fine on the device, but this annoys me ;) Do you know any solution?

• How to Customize JAXB Marshalling if generating JAXB beans from XML

- by Charles O.
Hello, I want to customize the marshalling of dates in JAXB. It's a variant of this already asked question. I would think I would use an XMLAdapter, as this answer questions specifies. But I can't do that exactly, because I'm going the other way around, generating the JAXB beans from an .XSD -- I can't add annotations to the JAXB beans because they are generated code. I've tried calling Marshaller.setAdapter(), but with no luck. final Marshaller marshaller = getJaxbContext().createMarshaller(); marshaller.setSchema(kniSchema); marshaller.setAdapter(new DateAdapter()); ... private static class DateAdapter extends XmlAdapter<String, XMLGregorianCalendar> { @Override public String marshal(XMLGregorianCalendar v) throws Exception { return "hello"; //Just a test to see if it's working } @Override public XMLGregorianCalendar unmarshal(String v) throws Exception { return null; // Don't care about this for now } } Where the relevant part of my generated JAXB bean looks like this: @XmlSchemaType(name = "date") protected XMLGregorianCalendar activeSince; When I do this, what the default date/XMLGregorianCalendar marshalling happens. It's as if I didn't do it all. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Charles

• Python 3.1, trying to unescape html/unicode/xml characters

- by Sho Minamimoto
I found my problem here, but there is only an answer for Python 2.6. Basically, I need to unescape strings such as this: 'a altieri_joão' to show the proper characters. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/990169/how-do-convert-unicode-escape-sequences-to-unicode-characters-in-a-python-string I need to do this in 3.1, but when I try print (u'a altieri_joão') if gives me invalid syntax. And when I try name.decode('latin-1') it says 'str' has no method 'decode'.

• Set margins in a LinearLayout programmatically.

- by Timmmm
I'm trying to use Java (not XML) to create a LinearLayout with buttons that fill the screen, and have margins. Here is code that works without margins: LinearLayout buttonsView = new LinearLayout(this); buttonsView.setOrientation(LinearLayout.VERTICAL); for (int r = 0; r < 6; ++r) { Button btn = new Button(this); btn.setText("A"); LinearLayout.LayoutParams lp = new LinearLayout.LayoutParams(LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, LinearLayout.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT); // Verbose! lp.weight = 1.0f; // This is critical. Doesn't work without it. buttonsView.addView(btn, lp); } ViewGroup.LayoutParams lp = new ViewGroup.LayoutParams(ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT, ViewGroup.LayoutParams.FILL_PARENT); setContentView(buttonsView, lp); So that works fine, but how on earth do you give the buttons margins so there is space between them? I tried using LinearLayout.MarginLayoutParams, but that has no weight member so it's no good. And it doesn't work if you pass it lp in its constructor either. Is this impossible? Because it sure looks it, and it wouldn't be the first Android layout task you can only do in XML.

• Problem with onRetainNonConfigurationInstance

- by David
I am writing a small app using the Android SDK, 1.6 target, and the Eclipse plug-in. I have layouts for both portrait and landscape mode, and most everything is working well. I say most because I am having issues with the orientation change. One part of the app has a ListView "on top of" another section. That section consists of 4 checkboxes, a button, and some TextViews. That is the portrait version. The landscape version replaces the ListView with a Spinner and rearranges some of the other components (but leaves the ALL resource ids the same). While in either orientation things work like they should. It's when the app switches orientation that things go off. Only 1 of the checkboxes maintains it's state throughout both layout changes. The other three CBs only maintain their state when going from landscape-portrait. I am also having problem getting the ListView/Spinner to correctly set themselves on changing. I am using onRetainNonConfigurationInstance() and creating a custom object that is returned. When I step through the code during a orientation change, the custom object is successfully pulled back out the the ether, and the widgets are being set to the correct values (inspecting them). But for some reason, once the onCreate is done, the checkboxes are not set to true. public class SkillSelectionActivity extends Activity { private Button rollDiceButton; private ListView skillListView; • SSLException: Keystore does not support enabled cipher suites

- by wurfkeks
I want to implement a small android application, that works as SSL Server. After lot of problems with the right format of the keystore, I solved this and run into the next one. My keystore file is properly loaded by the KeyStore class. But when I try to open the server socket (socket.accept()) the following error is raised: javax.net.ssl.SSLException: Could not find any key store entries to support the enabled cipher suites. I generated my keystore with this command: keytool -genkey -keystore test.keystore -keyalg RSA -keypass ssltest -storepass ssltest -storetype BKS -provider org.bouncycastle.jce.provider.BouncyCastleProvider -providerpath bcprov.jar with the Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy for Java SE6 applied to my jre6. I got a list of supported ciphers suites by calling socket.getSupportedCipherSuites() that prints a long list with very different combinations. But I don't know how to get a supported key. I also tried the android debug keystore after converting it to BKS format using portecle but get still the same error. Can anyone help and tell how I can generate a key that is compatible with one of the cipher suites? Version Information: targetSDK: 15 tested on emulator running 4.0.3 and real device running 2.3.3 BounceCastle 1.46 portecle 1.7 Code of my test application: public class SSLTestActivity extends Activity implements Runnable { SSLServerSocket mServerSocket; ToggleButton tglBtn; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); this.tglBtn = (ToggleButton)findViewById(R.id.toggleButton1); tglBtn.setOnCheckedChangeListener(new CompoundButton.OnCheckedChangeListener() { @Override public void onCheckedChanged(CompoundButton buttonView, boolean isChecked) { if (isChecked) { new Thread(SSLTestActivity.this).run(); } else { try { if (mServerSocket != null) mServerSocket.close(); } catch (IOException e) { Log.e("SSLTestActivity", e.toString()); } } } }); } @Override public void run() { try { KeyStore keyStore = KeyStore.getInstance(KeyStore.getDefaultType()); keyStore.load(getAssets().open("test.keystore"), "ssltest".toCharArray()); ServerSocketFactory socketFactory = SSLServerSocketFactory.getDefault(); mServerSocket = (SSLServerSocket) socketFactory.createServerSocket(8080); while (!mServerSocket.isClosed()) { Socket client = mServerSocket.accept(); PrintWriter output = new PrintWriter(client.getOutputStream(), true); output.println("So long, and thanks for all the fish!"); client.close(); } } catch (Exception e) { Log.e("SSLTestActivity", e.toString()); } } }

• Custom fonts, ellipsis on MultiLine TextViews, Glyphs and glitches.

- by Samuh
I am required to use custom fonts in my application. Problem: For ListViews that contain rows with Multi-Line TextViews having ellipsize property set to true, I can see some illegible characters after the ellipsis. Apparently Android pads the String(in TextView) with some characters unknown to my custom font. Single line TextView seem to work just fine. What is the best way to hide these characters or remove the padding? Thanks.

• JPA/JDO entity to XML XSD generator.

- by h2g2java
I am using JDO or JPA on GAE plugin in Eclipse. I am using smartgwt datasource, accepting an xsd. I would like to be educated how to generate an XSD from my jdo/jpa entity, vice versa. Is there a tool to do it? While datanucleas does all its magic enhancing in the Eclipse background, would I be able to somehow operate in a mode that would generate XSDs for me? Can Hibernate operate in an offline mode, to solely help me generate XSDs which I could use in GWT without deploying hibernate with my web-app? Can Hibernate even be capable of generating XSDs from entities, vice versa? Currently, I am about to write a utility to generate an xsd, given an entity class - but I am hoping I don't have to reinvent the wheel if it already exists. I am hoping people here could educate me on any available tools to ease my XSD generation. But btw, I am very wary of anything that uses Maven, because most people (like Spring) who write the Maven scripts and pom don't have the expertise to write it in a way that would spew out messages and verbosity appropriately to make it easy for me to locate model errors.

My code is: // Inserting data in database byte[] b; ByteArrayOutputStream baos = new ByteArrayOutputStream(); Bitmap bm = BitmapFactory.decodeResource(getResources(),R.drawable.icon); bm.compress(Bitmap.CompressFormat.PNG, 100, baos); //bm is the bitmap object b = baos.toByteArray(); //here b size is 2280 baos.close(); try { mDB = this.openOrCreateDatabase(MY_DATABASE_NAME, MODE_PRIVATE, null); mDB.execSQL("CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS " + MY_DATABASE_TABLE + " (PICTURE BLOB);"); mDB.execSQL("INSERT INTO " + MY_DATABASE_TABLE + " (PICTURE)" + " VALUES ('"+b+"');"); } catch(Exception e) { Log.e("Error", "Error", e); } finally { if(mDB != null) mDB.close(); } // Retriving data from database byte[] b1; Bitmap bm; mDB = this.openOrCreateDatabase(MY_DATABASE_NAME, MODE_PRIVATE, null); try { mDB.execSQL("CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS " + MY_DATABASE_TABLE + " (PICTURE BLOB);"); Cursor c = mDB.rawQuery("SELECT * FROM " + MY_DATABASE_TABLE + ";", null); c.moveToFirst(); if (c != null) { do { b1=c.getBlob(0)); //here b1 size is 12 bm=BitmapFactory.decodeByteArray(b1, 0, b1.length); }while(c.moveToNext()); }

- by user1828449
I want to build an AR application on Android by opencv and opengl. I found GL_MODELVIEW can place camera and model in world coordinates like the following link I tried to load a simple model-view matrix by gl.glLoadMatrixf(newMat, 0); and it works so I want to draw 3d model on the top of my target image if i got the four corner points of the target image because model-view matrix is needed I want to know if I can obtain the camera view matrix by opencv's findhomography
