  • Dynamically generate Triangle Lists for a Complex 3D Mesh

    - by Vulcan Eager
In my application, I have the shape and dimensions of a complex 3D solid (say a Cylinder Block) taken from user input. I need to construct vertex and index buffers for it. Since the dimensions are taken from user input, I cannot user Blender or 3D Max to manually create my model. What is the textbook method to dynamically generate such a mesh? Edit: I am looking for something that will generate the triangles given the vertices, edges and holes. Something like TetGen. As for TetGen itself, I have no way of excluding the triangles which fall on the interior of the solid/mesh.

  • Looking for a specific kind of WEB framework, no malarkey please

    - by Hello you all men
We do maintenence on a number of systems. I'm finally in a place where I'm teh fucking boss for once, and have to design a large system that will have a long maintenance contract. There's a couple of tasks I find myself always repeating: 1) similar tasks for users with JS and those without 2) similar things for contents and rss/atom feeds, etc. To combat these I will need appropriate handling of assets (think JS files, CSS, themes/templates, etc.), excellent auth/user systems, javascript/ajax forethought, appropriate model setups. Codeigniter fails on many of these. Basically, with enough time I could build this system with Zend, but I'm curious what else is out there as Zend is also kind of a heavy-weight. We need something that is Rapid but maintainable, CodeIgniter is not maintainable. We will have a lot of AJAX APIs in place for the design team to play with. At first I thought jQuery was cool, but now I'm looking at Dojo.

  • MVC Pages that require the user to be logged in

    - by keithjgrant
I'm working on a little MVC framework and I'm wondering what the "best way" is to structure things so secure pages/controllers always ensure the user is logged in (and thus automatically redirects to a login page--or elsewhere--if not). Obviously, there are a lot of ways to do it, but I'm wondering what solution(s) are the most common or are considered the best practice. Some ideas I had: Explicitly call user->isLoggedIn() at the beginning of your controller action method? (Seems far too easy to forget and leave an important page unsecure on accident) Make your controller extend a secureController that always checks for login in the constructor? Do this check in the model when secure information is requested? (Seems like redundant calls would be made) Something else entirely? Note: I'm working in PHP, though the question is not language-dependent.

  • SQL - Dervied Foreign Key - Possible?

    - by Chad
I'm just curious if this is possible, specifically in SQL CE (Express) with support in .NET's Entity Framework: Table1 (primary) -nvarchar(2000) url -... Table2 (with foreign key) -nvarchar(2000) domain -... foreign key on Table2.domain references Table1.url such that Table.url contains Table2.domain e.g. Table1: http://www.google.com/blah/blah http://www.cnn.com/blah/ http://www.google.com/foo Table2: google.com cnn.com Is it possible for this to be scripted and enforced by SQL CE (let alone any relation database) and, if so, can .NET's Entity Framework automatically support this if I import my database into a model?

  • How do I create English-language list (name1, name2, AND name3) in Ruby on Rails?

    - by Angela
Quite possibly there could be a rails magic I've missed, but I'm guessing it will be in Ruby. I have a model called Company which has_many Contacts. Suppose Company has Contact 1, Contact 2, Contact 3, and Contact 4. When I create a textblog for each Contact, I want to output the following (where Contact = Contact 1) "Hi, Contact 1, I am also writing to Contact 2, Contact 3, and Contact 4." So it needs to extract the Contact in the salutation and then list them, inserting "and" before the last Contact in the list.

  • SQL Query taking too long

    - by user345426
I am trying to optimize the SQL query listed below. It is basically a search engine code that retrieves products based on the products name. It also checks products model number and whether or not it is enabled. This executes in about 1.6 seconds when I run it directly through the phpMyAdmin tool but takes about 3 seconds in total to load in conjunction with the PHP file it is placed in. I need to add a category search functionality and now that is crashing the MySQL server, HELP! SELECT DISTINCT p.products_id , p.products_image , p.products_price , s.specials_new_products_price, p.products_weight , p.products_unit_quantity , pd.products_name , pd.products_img_alt , pd.products_affiliate_url FROM products AS p LEFT JOIN vendors v ON v.vendors_id = p.vendors_id LEFT JOIN specials AS s ON s.products_id = p.products_id AND s.status = 1, categories AS c , products_description AS pd , products_to_categories AS p2c WHERE ( ( pd.products_name LIKE '%cleaning%' AND pd.products_name LIKE '%supplies%' ) OR ( p.products_model LIKE '%cleaning%' AND p.products_model LIKE '%supplies%' ) OR p.products_id = 'cleaning supplies' OR v.vendors_prefix = 'cleaning supplies' OR CONCAT( CAST(v.vendors_prefix AS CHAR), '-', CAST(p.products_id AS CHAR) ) = 'cleaning supplies' ) AND p.products_status = '1' AND c.categories_status = '1' AND p.products_id = pd.products_id AND p2c.products_id = pd.products_id AND p2c.categories_id = c.categories_id ORDER BY pd.products_name

  • Is there a way to replicate a very large file shares in real-time?

    - by fsckin
I have an hourly cron job that copies about 40GB of data from a source folder into a new folder with the hour appended on the end. When it's done, the job prunes anything older than 24 hours. This data changes very often during work hours and is on a samba file share. Here's how the folder structure looks: \server\Version.1 \server\Version.2 \server\Version.3 ... \server\Version.24 The contents of each new folder compared to the last one usually doesn't change very much, since this is a hourly job. Now you might be thinking that I'm an idiot for setting dreaming this up. Truth is, I just found out. It's actually been used for years and is so incredibly simple, anyone could delete the ENTIRE 40GB share (imagine that dialog spooling up... deleting thousands and thousands of files) and it would actually be faster to restore by moving the latest copy back to the source than it took to delete. Brilliant! Now to top this off, I need to efficiently replicate this 960GB of "mostly similar" data to a remote server over WAN link, with the replication happening as close to real-time as possible -- think hot spare, disaster recovery, etc. My first thought was rsync. Total failure. Rsync sees it sees a deletion of the folder that is 24 hours old and the addition of a new folder with 30GB of data to sync! I also looked at rdiff-backup and unison, they both appear to use similar algorithms and do not keep enough meta-data to do this intelligently. Best thing that I can find "out of the box" to do this is Windows Server "Distributed Filesystem Replication" which uses "Remote Differential Compression" -- After reading the background information on how this works, it actually looks like exactly what I need. Problem: Both servers are running Linux. D'oh! One approach to this I'm looking at is this, say it's 5AM and the cron job finishes: New Version.5 folder arrives at on local server SSH to remote server and copy Version.4 to Version.5 Run rsync on the local server pushing changes to the remote server. Rsync finally knows to do a differential copy between Version.4 and Version.5 Is there a smarter way to replicate Samba shares as close to real-time as possible? Anything out there that does "Remote Differential Compression" on Linux?

  • @OrderBy: Sorting references

    - by Sven Moschel
We have the following entity structure: @Entity public class SecurityRole { private List<Account> accounts; // ManyToMany } @Entity public class Account { private Employee owner; // OneToOne } @Entity public class Employee { private String lastName; } A security role can have many accounts. A account always has an employee. On the GUI we show the security roles in an mastertable. In the detail table we show the accounts of the role. To display the employee information we show "account.getOwner().getLastName()"; How can we use the @OrderBy annotation with this model? Is this possible? The problem is that the Account entity has no employee information that we can sort.

  • Which .NET data provider?

    - by worlds-apart89
I am new to database programming, so I'd like help getting on the right track. I have read that there are Microsoft-defined and third-party data providers for data access. MSDN has information on data providers for SQL Server, OLE DB, ODBC, Oracle, as well as the EntityClient provider (Entity Framework). Which data provider is today's hottest, most-widely used model? Which one is the future? Also, I have seen Linq to SQL tutorials, but what category does L2S fall into?

  • Strange DataMapper (0.10.2) error. Please help!

    - by Joel M.
See the full error here: http://notesapp.heroku.com/ I'm using DataMapper and dm-validations 0.10.2. No matter how much I tweak my models, I get the same error, or another one. Here's how my model looks like: class User include DataMapper::Resource attr_accessor :password, :password_confirmation property :id, Serial, :required => true property :email, String, :required => true, :format => :email_address, :unique => true property :hashed_password, String property :salt, String, :required => true property :created_at, DateTime, :default => Time.now property :permission_level, Integer, :default => 1 validates_present :password_confirmation, :unless => Proc.new { |t| t.hashed_password } validates_present :password, :unless => Proc.new { |t| t.hashed_password } validates_is_confirmed :password

  • Using pthread condition variable with rwlock

    - by Doomsday
Hello, I'm looking for a way to use pthread rwlock structure with conditions routines in C++. I have two questions: First: How is it possible and if we can't, why ? Second: Why current POSIX pthread have not implemented this behaviour ? To understand my purpose, I explain what will be my use: I've a producer-consumer model dealing with one shared array. The consumer will cond_wait when the array is empty, but rdlock when reading some elems. The producer will wrlock when adding(+signal) or removing elems from the array. The benefit of using rdlock instead of mutex_lock is to improve performance: when using mutex_lock, several readers would block, whereas using rdlock several readers would not block.

  • Include in enity framework 4

    - by molgan
Hello I've been using enity framework that came with 3.5sp. And now I've redone things for enityframework 4 and asp.net mvc 2. I've come across something (which worked in my previous version and asp.net mvc 1.0). I have this: public IQueryable<Booking> GetBookings() { return from b in _entities.Bookings.Include("BookingObject") select b; } And in my controller I have: return View("Index", new BookingsViewModel { Bookings = _br.GetBookings().ByDay(DateTime.Today) }); And it doesnt seem to include the "BookingObject"-entity, so I can type like <%= Model.Bookings.BookingObject.BookingObjectName %> in my view. What might be missing here? Do I need to turn something on in the diagram for it to include entities or? /M

  • How to integrate "basic" website into Zend Framework

    - by Joel
Hi guys, I have a website that has around 10 pages. Only one of those pages uses Zend (to integrate with Google gData). Right now, it's just all coded into that one page, but I'm wanting to learn how to use Zend Framework. How do you handle basic-relatively static php pages within Zend Framework? Do you just stick the whole individual pages into their own respective views and then have to common stuff in the layout, and not worry about a model and controller for those pages? in general, is MVC accepted and appropriate technology for general "web-design" work?

  • Create "INSERT" statements from mySQL database in Java

    - by girdus
Does anyone know of any good libraries or scripts out there which will allow me to point to any mySQL table and automatically get a list of all the INSERT statements for the data in the table? DdlUtils allows me to create an XML file from a database model but I would like to have it in INSERT statements format and preferably the ability to choose a couple of tables instead of dumping the entire database. Thanks. EDIT: I need it to be a Java API because I want to programatically call it from my Java method.

  • Advanced find in Rails

    - by jriff
Hi all I really suck at Rails' finders besides the most obvious. I always resort to SQL when things get more advanced than Model.find(:all, :conditions => ['field>? and field<? and id in (select id from table)', 1,2]) I have this method: def self.get_first_validation_answer(id) a=find_by_sql(" select answers.*, answers_registrations.answer_text from answers_registrations left join answers on answers_registrations.answer_id=answers.id where (answers_registrations.question_id in (select id from questions where validation_question=true)) and (sale_registration_id=#{id}) limit 1 ").first a.answer_text || a.text if a end Can someone create a find method that gets me what I want? • jQuery + Simple Dialog

    - by Panther24
Hi, I have a jQuery Model windows which contains a form. On creating of the page, I'm able to see the fields although in my dialog, i have set autoOpen to false. All the forms are in a div. a sample of my dialog looks like this: $("#dialog-form").dialog({ autoOpen: false, height: 460, width: 750, modal: true, buttons: { 'Create Map': function() { document.registerFrm.submit(); }, Cancel: function() { $(this).dialog('close'); } }, close: function() { allFields.val('').removeClass('ui-state-error'); } }); Any way to resolve, I don't want the form fields to be visible on load/creation of the page.

  • Designing server communications like DNS

    - by fryme
I'm just need some help about server design. I need help in the design of the structure of the server application. Need to develop a network of servers that interact with each other. If a server receives a request and the server can not comply it, then the request is sent to another server and the result will be refunded to the sender. Information on all servers is different, and sender did not know where the result is placed in. The first thing that comes to mind is to use the model(scheme) of the DNS. But any interesting detailed articles on this subject I have not found. Any ideas?

  • How do I manipulate a tree of immutable objects?

    - by Frederik
I'm building an entire application out of immutable objects so that multi-threading and undo become easier to implement. I'm using the Google Collections Library which provides immutable versions of Map, List, and Set. My application model looks like a tree: Scene is a top-level object that contains a reference to a root Node. Each Node can contain child Nodes and Ports. An object graph might look like this: Scene | +-- Node | +-- Node | +- Port +-- Node | +- Port +- Port If all of these objects are immutable, controlled by a top-level SceneController object: What is the best way to construct this hierarchy? How would I replace an object that is arbitrarily deep in the object tree? Is there a way to support back-links, e.g. a Node having a "parent" attribute?

  • Is it possible to use Data Annotations to validate parameters passed to an Action method of a Contro

    - by dannie.f
    I am using Data Annotations to validate my Model in ASP.NET MVC. This works well for action methods that has complex parameters e.g, public class Params { [Required] string Param1 {get; set;} [StringLength(50)] string Param2 {get; set;} } ActionResult MyAction(Params params) { If(ModeState.IsValid) { // Do Something } } What if I want to pass a single string to an Action Method (like below). Is there a way to use Data Annotations or will I have to wrap the string into a class? ActionResult MyAction(string param1, string param2) { If(ModeState.IsValid) { // Do Something } }

  • How to handle request/response propagation up and down a widget hierarchy in a GUI app?

    - by fig-gnuton
Given a GUI application where widgets can be composed of other widgets: If the user triggers an event resulting in a lower level widget needing data from a model, what's the cleanest way to be able to send that request to a controller (or the datastore itself)? And subsequently get the response back to that widget? Presumably one wouldn't want the controller or datastore to be a singleton directly available to all levels of widgets, or is this an acceptable use of singleton? Or should a top level controller be injected as a dependency through a widget hierarchy, as far down as the lowest level widget that might need that controller? Or a different approach entirely?

  • Rails find by *all* associated tags.id in

    - by mark
Hi Say I have a model Taggable has_many tags, how may I find all taggables by their associated tag's taggable_id field? Taggable.find(:all, :joins => :tags, :conditions => {:tags => {:taggable_id => [1,2,3]}}) results in this: SELECT `taggables`.* FROM `taggables` INNER JOIN `tags` ON tags.taggable_id = taggables.id WHERE (`tag`.`taggable_id` IN (1,2,3)) The syntax is incredible but does not fit my needs in that the resulting sql returns any taggable that has any, some or all of the tags. How can I find taggables with related tags of field taggable_id valued 1, 2 and 3? Thanks for any advice. :)

  • ORM Against a Service-Wrapped Data Source

    - by blaster
We are tasked with migrating an existing set of entities (currently POCOs persisted with NHibernate against an MSSQL database) to now persist to some kind of web service (yet to be built, either RESTful or SOAP-based, and that we control). I like how NHibernate encapsulates the persistence concerns and lets us maintain a logic-rich, persistence-agnostic domain model. Is there any way to make NHibernate talk to a web service at the back end instead of a SQL database directly? In other words, can "service instead of SQL database" be treated as a persistence implementation detail and allow us to continue to use NHibernate? Am I asking the right question? :)

  • Tool to maintain a Data Mapping between two systems

    - by ktaylorjohn
We have XML interfaces between multiple systems. An Enterprise Domain Model is missing in the overall architecture, hence the terms Product/Customer/User means different things to different systems. We currently use excel sheets to map the elements in incoming XML to what the actual Field means within our system. Additionally, it contains the values of Mandatory/Optional and length of each field. We call this the Data Dictionary. Any changes to the XML go through rounds of deliberation and updates to Word and Excel documents. Is there a better way to do this? Any tool/GUI based approach which all systems and owners can view?

  • How can I use form_remote_tag to update an acts_as_taggable_on field?

    - by Angela
I have a model called Company which is acts_as_taggable_on. When I am /SHOWing a Company (e.g. company/15) I want to be able to see a form that allows me to add tags. I suppose this would be easier by just allowing at edit but sometimes I want to go back and just add tags. This is what I tried to do and I get an error: <div id = 'tags'> <strong>Tags:</strong> <% form_remote_tag(:url => {:action => 'update'}, :update => 'tags') do %> <%= text_field :company, :tag_list %> <%= submit_tag 'Save' %> <% end %> </div> Thanks!

  • In Ruby, is there a better way of selecting a constant (or avoiding the constant altogether) based o

    - by Vertis
Not sure the title fully describes the problem/question I'm trying to ask, sorry. One of my fellow developers has created classes as such: class Widget attr_accessor :model_type ... end and: class ModelType MODEL1 = "model1" MODEL2 = "model2" MODEL3 = "model3" end Now he wants me to convert a retrieved string "MODEL1" to the constant. So that when he is referencing that model elsewhere he can use ModelType::MODEL1. Obviously I've got to convert from the string I'm being given with something like the following: case model_type when 'MODEL1' @model_type = ModelType::MODEL1 ... end I feel like this is clunky, so I'd like to know if there is a better DRYer way of providing this kind of functionality.
