  • .net c# text box date with mask - setup

    - by flavour404
I have a c# .net project and want an input text box for a date value. I want it to display a default value of mm/dd/yyyy and then allow users to enter valid dates. I have tried using a masked text box but it doesn't like having the above format. If i try and use //__ looks naff and so does 00/00/0000 and of course if you put in '0' like 03/11/2009 you get 3/11/29 because the 0's are deleted as part of the mask - so what is the best way to set up an input box like this, effectively with a mask, only allowing numbers, and validation (though at this point I am not so worried about that). This seems so simple and isn't. Thanks, R.

  • Can't find .Net 2.0 XML Schema

    - by Zach Smith
I'm currently setting up an application config for a WPF application written in .Net 4.0. The connection string in the app.config is encrypted like so: <connectionStrings configProtectionProvider="DataProtectionConfigurationProvider"> <EncryptedData> <CipherData> <CipherValue>CypherValue</CipherValue> </CipherData> </EncryptedData> </connectionStrings> To use the EncryptedData element I need to include the XMLNS "http://schemas.microsoft.com/.NetConfiguration/v2.0". Attempting to include it produces an error as the schema cannot be found. Is there a way to include the schema or perhaps a different element I could use instead of EncryptedData?

  • .NET Setup Package Installer

    - by Duncan
Hi, I have a .NET 3.5 Setup Package Project which installs my application successfully. The setup package deploys a number (around 70) custom files for use from within the application. From time to time I have the requirement of deleting some of these files, however upon restarting the executable, it automatically runs a portion of the Setup MSI again, and re-installs these files. The only way I can achieve my desired result at the moment is to delete the files after starting the executable. I have looked through the attributes on the files in the setup package such as Vital and PackageAs, however cannot seem to identify the required setting to achieve this. Does anybody have any idea what is needed to acheive this ? Much thanks

  • Using Thrift to connect to Cassandra from .NET

    - by vtortola
Hi, I'm interested in Cassandra and I'd like to test it at home in my Windows XP computer. I've found instructions for install an run Cassandra in Windows, and it's already up and running; I've also found the thrift executable for Windows and generate the C# interfaces, but... when I try to compile that generated code in Visual Studio I got : "The type or namespace name 'Thrift' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)", so I'm missing something else, but I cannot find what... What is it? Is it a dll? I've looked in the thrift code and I cannot find anything related to .net , so what am I missing? Thanks in advance. Regards.

  • Tips for optimizing C#/.NET programs

    - by Bob
It seems like optimization is a lost art these days. Wasn't there a time when all programmers squeezed every ounce of efficiency from their code? Often doing so while walking 5 miles in the snow? In the spirit of bringing back a lost art, what are some tips that you know of for simple (or perhaps complex) changes to optimize C#/.NET code? Since it's such a broad thing that depends on what one is trying to accomplish it'd help to provide context with your tip. For instance: When concatenating many strings together use StringBuilder instead. If you're only concatenating a handful of strings it's ok to use the + operator. Use string.Compare to compare 2 strings instead of doing something like string1.ToLower() == string2.ToLower()

  • .NET Single Line Logging (ala Trace.Write/WriteLine) using Instrumentation.Logging

    - by KnownColor
Hello Everyone, My question is whether it is possible to get line/multiline (very unsure of correct term for this) behaviour of the Trace.Write and Trace.WriteLine methods but using the Microsoft Instrumentation Logging framework in .NET 2.0. Desired Output Hello World! Oh Hai. What I Currently Have Trace.Write("Hello "); Trace.WriteLine("World!"); Trace.Write("Oh Hai."); I would prefer to use instrumentation to log rather than writing to a log file using Debug.Trace. EDIT: By Instrumentation Logging I mean using a 'loggingConfiguration' block in my App.config and writing Log Entries using using Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.Logger.Write(LogEntry logEntry); Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.Configuration.FlatFileTraceListenerData, Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging, Version=2.0.0.0 for example. • .net 4 Chart Control - Hide labels in pie chart

    - by Ricardo Deano
Hello all. Am I going mad/blind? Probably a combination of the two. How does one go about removing the data labels from a pie chart with the new chart control in .net 4? I can get these to display as tooltips absolutely fine, but ultiamtely I'd like the labels not to be present as it looks rather busy. I've searched previous answers and seen code behind resolutions but surely there must be some sort of code infront option to turn these labels off? Apologies for being thick/blind.

  • .net converting bytearray to double[]

    - by AJ
Hello, I am working with a database from a legacy app which stores 24 floating point values (doubles) as a byte array of length 192, so 8 bytes per value. This byte array is stored in a column of type image in a SQL Server 2005 database. In my .net app I need to read this byte array and convert it to a array of type Double[24]. I can access the field easy enough reader.GetBytes(...) but how to convert the returned ByteArray to Double[24] Any ideas? Thanks, AJ

  • A general question about inheritence in the .NET framework

    - by Grant
I have a general question about inheritance in the .NET framework, lets say you have 2 classes, the first is called Parent and the second is called Child. Child inherits from Parent. Parent wants to ensure that each instance of child executes a specific piece of code when it loads irrespective of whether the child has their own onLoad code explicitly specified. From my experience, if i handle onLoad in the parent and not in the child, the parents onLoad code will fire but if its handled in both classes only the child's code will fire. Is this correct? and if so how can i ensure the parents code will always fire for the child...

  • .NET Remoting Client's Problem when running on the machine with Multi NICs

    - by cui chun
I built a .NET Remoting Client which works quite fine on the machine of single NIC, and lots of testing messages received via remoting event. But when additional NIC was added, the Client seemed to be able to connect the remoting Server, but the testing messages cannot arrive anymore. From debugging, the server end did trigger the event but the client didn't get that. Checking from google and find that a similar problem report: http://www.eggheadcafe.com/community/aspnet/2/10061570/reply.aspx I just wonder if any solutions? Thanks in advance!

  • How to name an event handler of a private variable in Vb.Net following FxCop rules and Vb.Net standa

    - by SoMoS
Hello, On one side, in Vb.Net when you add an event handler to an object the created method is named: <NameOfTheObject>_<NameOfTheMethod>. As I like to have consistent syntax I always follow this rule when creating event handlers by hand. On the other side when I create private variables I prefix them with m_ as this is a common thing used by the community, in C# people use to put _ at the beginning of a variable but this is no CLS compliant. At the end, when I create event handlers for events raised by private variables I end with Subs like m_myVariable_MyEvent. Code Analysis (Fx Cop) is complainig about this way of naming because the method does not start with uppercase and because the _, so the question is: What naming standards do you follow when creating event handlers by hand that follow the Fxcop rules if any? Thanks in advance.

  • Obtain stored procedure metadata for a procedure within an Oracle package using ADO.NET

    - by alwayslearning
Hi, I am trying to obtain the stored procedure metadata (procedure name, parameter types, parameter names etc) for a procedure declared within an Oracle package, using the standard ADO.NET API - DbConnection.GetSchema call. I am using the ODP driver. I see that the Package is listed in the 'Packages' and 'PackageBodies' metadata collections. The procedure parameter appears in the 'Arguments' and 'ProcedureParameters' collections. I do not see a way to get to the procedure information via the package metadata. Even if the procedure does not have any parameters there is a row in the 'ProcedureParameters' collection for this procedure. My question: To obtain the procedure metadata do I have to query the 'ProcedureParameters' collection and search for an entry with the required package name? I can then construct the procedure metadata based on the parameter information. Is there a shorter or quicker way to obtain the same information?

However not only am i unsure if oggenc2 will accept input from stdin, i have no idea how to pipe one process to another inside of .net using the Process class.

  • .Net C#: support differnt Office versions

    - by Chris
We created an application that uses Office 2007 (Excel 2007) to read in data from an Excel worksheet. However. I noticed that when I want to deploy the application on a system with Office 2003 installed, it crashes because other PIA's (and other dll's) need to be referenced for this version of office. Do I need to compile different versions of my application to be able to support different versions of Office or is there a more ellegant solution for this problem? I use Visual Studio 2010 (C#) and the .Net 4.0 platform. Many thanks Chris

  • Programmatically adding a site to the Allowed Sites of the IE Pop-up Blocker (VB.NET)

    - by GlueR
A few more details. I need to programmatically (Winforms, VB.NET) check if a site is in the Allowed Sites list of the IE Pop-Up Blocker (IE 7 and 8 and Windows XP, Vista and 7) and if not, add it. The application is fully trusted and I don't want to disable the Pop-Up blocker entirely. To clarify some things, this is for a web-automation application with several users across 3 countries. I want to avoid receiving tons of emails and explaining each time how to add the website to the Allowed Sites manually. Also, some of the users have Google Toolbar installed, which also has a Popup Blocker creating trouble to my app. Can this also be done programmatically?

  • .NET Data Adapter Timeout SP Issue

    - by A-B
We have a SQL Server stored procedure that runs fine in SQL Manager directly, does a rather large calculation but only takes 50-10 seconds max to run. However when we call this from the .NET app via a data adapter it times out. The timeout however happens before the timeout period should, we set it to 60 seconds and it still times out in about 20 seconds or less. I've Googled the issue and seen others note issues where a SP works fien directly but is slow via a data adpater call. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

  • Regular expression to validate name in .NET multilingual web application

    - by BT
Hi, how can i write a regular expression to validate name field in a multilingual web application, i want to validate the name field for non-English languages e.g. Spanish or German, and we need to make sure that no one enter digits or special characters. I'm using .NET. I believe we can't use expression as below for non-English language. ^[a-zA-Z]{1,20}$ Any help will be highly appreciated! Solution: I'm using this regular expression ^\p{L}[\p{L}\p{Pd}\x27]*\p{L}$ , and the below MSISDN article was very helpful: MSDN - Regular Expression Also below tool is very helpful, in validating your regular expression: Regex Builder

  • .NET 2d library for circuit diagrams

    - by Dinah
I want to draw and manipulate logic flow (as opposed to analog) circuit diagrams and I'm trying not to reinvent the wheel. Problems like positioning, line drawing, line crossing and connecting, path finding, rubberband lines, and drag & drop are also identical in flow charts, UML diagrams, or class diagrams so I started by viewing related topics via Google and Stack Overflow. However, the following requirements seemed to keep me from finding anything that quite fit: assuming a chip has an image with input and output stubs, the connecting lines would connect to the chip only in the exact spots of the I/O stubs the color of connecting lines are able to be set as per a chip's output Is there an existing .NET 2d graphics library that would be suitable for drawing circuit diagrams?

  • Different kinds of doubles in vb.net?

    - by Jonathan
Hey all- I'm using QBFC to generate invoices in a Quickbooks integrating app. I'm getting an exception thrown for lineItem.Amount.SetValue(val as Double) when I try to enter a programmatically generated double. The following does not work: lineItem = invoice.ORInvoiceLineAddList.Append.InvoiceLineAdd Dim amount as Double amount = summary.dailySold * summary.dailyRate loggingTxtBox.AppendText("Amount is " & amount & vbNewLine) lineItem.Amount.SetValue(amount) The exception I receive is System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x80040305): Invalid Amount format. at Interop.QBFC8.IQBAmountType.SetValue(Double val) The following works: lineItem.Amount.SetValue(20.3) Any suggestions? Is .NET interpretting a hard-coded double differently than a programmatically calculated one? Thanks- Jonathan

  • How to optimize an asp.net spawning a new process for each request ?

    - by Recycle Bin
I have an asp.net mvc application that spawns a Process as follows: Process p = new Process(); p.EnableRaisingEvents = true; p.Exited += new EventHandler(p_Exited); p.StartInfo.Arguments = "-interaction=nonstopmode " + inputpath; p.StartInfo.WorkingDirectory = dir; p.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = false; p.StartInfo.FileName = "pdflatex.exe"; p.StartInfo.LoadUserProfile = true; p.Start(); p.WaitForExit(); Before going further, I need to know whether, e.g., pdflatex.exe is a managed code or a native code? Edit I need to consider this because: (Hopely I am not wrong...) Each Asp.net application runs in an separate/isolated AppDomain as opposed to a separate/isolated process. A native executable cannot live in an AppDomain. to be continued... Shortly speaking, I hope my site does not spawn a new process for each request. Because a process is more expensive than an application domain.

  • Acceessing some aggregate functions in a linq datasource in a GridView

    - by Stephen Pellicer
I am working on a traditional WebForms project. In the project I am trying out some Linq datasources with plans to eventually migrate to an MVC architecture. I am still very new to Linq. I have a GridView using a Linq datasource. The entities I am showing has a to many relationship and I would like to get the maximum value of a column in the many side of the relationship. I can show properties of the base entity in the gridview: <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Number" SortExpression="tJobBase.tJob.JobNumber"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("tJobBase.tJob.JobNumber") %>'> </asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> I can also show the count of the many related property: <asp:TemplateField HeaderText="Number" SortExpression="tJobBase.tJob.tHourlies.Count"> <ItemTemplate> <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text='<%# Bind("tJobBase.tJob.tHourlies.Count") %>'> </asp:Label> </ItemTemplate> </asp:TemplateField> Is there a way to get the max value of a column called WeekEnding in the tHourlies collection to show in the GridView?

  • Providing help documentation in VB.NET?

    - by blerh
I have written up troubleshooting documents for my project and would like them included in my program. I remember in VB6 there was a very easy way to do this with a control, where it already has the help document tree set up on the left and you just set it to point to certain files. Does something like this exist for .NET? I am aware of the HelpProvider control but as far as I know this just puts in tooltips and opens documents on a button press? Thanks for any help. :)

  • Update parameter not working on bound DropDownList

    - by ProfK
    I have a DropDownList declared like this: <asp:DropDownList ID="campaignTypeList" runat="server" Width="150px" DataTextField="Name" DataValueField="CampaignTypeId" DataSourceID="campaignTypesDataSource" SelectedValue='<%# Bind("CampaignTypeID") %>'> </asp:DropDownList> Using the designer, my SqlDataSource is configured as follows1: <asp:SqlDataSource ID="campaignDataSource" runat="server" ConflictDetection="CompareAllValues" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ProVantageMediaManagement %>" SelectCommand="ActivationCampaignGetById" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure" UpdateCommand="ActivationCampaignUpdate" UpdateCommandType="StoredProcedure"> <SelectParameters> <asp:QueryStringParameter DefaultValue="98" Name="campaignId" Direction="Input" QueryStringField="id" Type="Int32" /> </SelectParameters> <UpdateParameters> <asp:QueryStringParameter DefaultValue="98" Name="campaignId" Direction="Input" QueryStringField="id" Type="Int32" /> <asp:Parameter Name="campaignName" Type="String" /> <asp:Parameter Name="campaignTypeId" Type="Int32" /> </UpdateParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource> Yet when the update command is sent to the DB, the campaignTypeId value is always 1, no matter which item is selected in the DropDownList. What am I doing wrong? 1 Bonus points for telling us what a ControlParameter is meant for, if not for handling values of controls in a scenario like this.
