• Turn off QuickTime 'start page'

  When I start Apple QuickTime (regular non-pro version), it comes up with this page of content including "Hot Picks", "Quick Hits" and other advertising, which I assume it is getting from the internet. How do I turn this off? I just want it to open the blank player, ready for me to play a file etc and not connect to the internet.

  I have a proxy server that runs Ubuntu Server 11.10, Squid 2.7.STABLE9. I installed sarg (version 2.3.1 Sep-18-2010) to generate reports using the ordinary apt-get install, and added a cron job to generate a report of the day every 5 minutes (that will overwrite the 5-minutes-older one): */5 * * * * /root/proxy_report.sh And the content of /root/proxy_report.sh is: #!/bin/bash /usr/bin/sarg -nd `date +"%d/%m/%Y"` > /dev/null 2>&1 And I added another cron job to generate a full report every hour at :32 (not to collide with the 5 minutes job): */32 * * * * /root/proxy_report_full.sh And the content of /root/proxy_report_full.sh is : #!/bin/bash /usr/bin/sarg -n > /dev/null 2>&1 And I added a small script to remove the yesterday full report (the full report that ends in yesterday that won't be overwritten by the new today full report) in /etc/rc.local to run at startup: /usr/bin/rm_yesterday.sh &>> /var/log/rm_yesterday Where /usr/bin/rm_yesterday.sh: #!/bin/bash find /var/www/sarg/ | grep `date -d Apr1 +"%Y%b%d"`-* | grep -v `date +"%Y%b%d"` | xargs rm -rf * Apr1 is the starting date of the proxy... ** I've placed it in /usr/bin to be mounted early at startup... • Export layer to png file in gimp

  Is there a simple way to export the current selected layer as a png/jpg file in Gimp 2.8.4 ? I did some searching in google, and the export should do it in gimp 2.6 if the layer is the only visible layer, but I can't get that to work for gimp 2.8 The way I currently do it now is that I select the content, and cut/paste it to a new image, then export the image and close it, but a simple export selected layer would be much more easy to use.

  I am looking for a command-line tool for Unix (ideally, available in a Debian / Ubuntu package) for extracting all MIME parts from a multipart email message (or the body from a singlepart with an interesting content-type, for that matter). I have been using the mimeexplode tool which ships with the Perl MIME::Tools package, but it's not really production quality (the script is included as an example only, and has issues with what it regards as "evil" character sets) and I could certainly roll my own script based on that, but if this particular wheel has already been innovated, perhaps I shouldn't.

  I have recently heard a lot about exploits for PDF and DOC files on Windows, which when opened in Reader or Word would infect the computer. I'm assuming most of those exploits rely on some kind of active content, I've heard that Reader allows JavaScript for example. I already have antivirus, but I've heard they often don't catch those types of exploits, so I want to try a little proactive defense. Is there a way to harden Reader and Word by disabling plugins or options that are often used by exploits?

Basically the structure of my App looks like this Headdirectory -- -APPBase -SomeMoreStuff -WWWDirectory .htaccess So i need to redirect into the WWWDirectory when i open the Headdirectory. In Apache its done with a htaccess and the following Content : RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^(.*) www/$1 I already tried in Nginx : location /Headdirectory { rewrite ^/(.*) /www/$1; } And i tried to create an Alias but that didnt work... • WMP Skipping Chapters When Restored to Fullscreen

  I just noticed a rather interesting issue with WMP. I'm watching a DVD while working, and noticed that if I minimize it to my taskbar, and open up the small preview window I can watch it just fine. But if I restore it while it's playing, it immediately skips ahead to the next chapter, blowing right past several minutes of content. Is this standard behavior? Is there a work-around to keep it from doing this?

• Confused with DKIM, SPF and Exim Configs

  I've now spent 2 hours trying to figure out this issue and I am about to give up and go to bed. I've been having issues with Gmail rejecting emails from my VPS server because of false spam alerts (probably caused by lfd sending too many emails). So I changed my Exim config to send emails from a different IP (my VPS comes with 3) and that fixed the issue. I also enabled DKIM and SPF on my domains for added measure. But now, all my emails appear as ("From: Sender Name via server.domain1.com") where server.domain1.com is my VPS hostname. I previously had the same issue in Outlook and turning off "Set SMTP Sender: headers" solved that problem. But I believe adding the DKIM and SPF now makes Gmail add "via server.domain1.com" to my messages. How do I fix this? But the bucket we use is in US, and there seem to be no tool to move whole bucket content to different bucket. There is also problem on how to synchronize the data later on when we switch to EU bucket, the data that will be created meanwhile while the migration was running.

  The content on the Server 2008 R2 Trial Software page states that it can be evaluated for upto 180 days, however on a test machine we installed last week, it's requesting "re-arming" every 10 days, which seems to be do-able a maximum of 5 times? How do we get it to last more than 50 days, as it'd be a pain to have to rebuild the server concerned!

I can't find any relevant options in Vimperator's docs or via googling. The only option that looked remotely relevant was the "scrollbars" setting, but that just determines whether I get scrollbars on Firefox's content window... Is there any particular setting I have to use to hide scrollbars from the tab-bar? (I'm using Waterfox on Win8)

Whenever they scroll down past a certain limit, the content on the page is replicated once and after that the table cells are blank. The view also switches to Normal· They think that the document was last opened in OpenOffice (version 3.3.0, which opens the document fine now), could this cause it? Its Word 2000. What can we do?

Installing a vnc4server and redirecting a DISPLAY to it worked like a charm. Not that my UI tests are running but test scripts can take screen shots. • Make mod_wsgi use python2.7.2 instead of python2.6?

  i am running Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS and it came pre-packed with python2.6 but i need to replace it with python2.7.2. (The reason is simple, 2.7 has a lot of features backported from 3 ) i had installed python2.7.2 using ./configure make make altinstall the altinstall option installed it, without touching the system default version, to /usr/local/lib/python2.7 and placed the interpreter in /usr/local/bin/python2.7 Then to help mod_wsgi find python2.7 i added the following to /etc/apache2/sites-available/wsgisite WSGIPythonHome /usr/local i start apache and run a test wsgi app BUT i am greeted by python 2.6.5 and not Python2.7 Later i replaced the default python simlink to point to python 2.7 ln -f /usr/local/bin/python2.7 /usr/bin/python Now typing 'python' on the console opens python2.7 but somehow mod_wsgi still picks up python2.6 Next i tried, PATH=/usr/local/bin:$PATH export PATH then do a quick restart apache, but yet again its python2.6 !!
