  Is there any way to persuade Eclipse to use tabs instead of spaces for indenting its built-in Java content assist proposals (such as when creating an empty method which overrides a method in the parent class)? The only setting I could find that looked relevant is in Windows/Preferences/General/Editors/Text Editors/Insert spaces for tabs, and this setting is unchecked. At the moment I have to remember to select them and re-format with <Ctrl>+<Shift>+<F>.

• In Ruby on Rails, the :id is only optional in routes.rb? How to tell optional vs not optional?

  In routes.rb map.connect ':controller/:action/:id' map.connect ':controller/:action/:id.:format' but then http://localhost:3000/foobars/alt will work too. The params are: {"action"=>"alt", "controller"=>"foobars"} so looks like :id is optional here. How can you tell it is optional vs not optional? Can you make it so that it is not optional in routes.rb?

• Unique text field in MySQL and php

  I've created a salt using; md5(rand(0,10000000)); (there is probably a better way?) There doesn't seem to be possible to make a text field unique in MYSQL. So how do I check if the salt has already been used for a previous user? Or should I generate the salt based on the current date/time? as it is impossible for 2 users to register at exactly the same time correct?

  Hey all, I am trying to put together a query that will display one specific record (found by the record's primary ID) at the top, and display all other records below it, sorted by date (I have "date_added" as one of the fields in the table, in addition to primary ID). I could do this with a UNION (first select would locate the record I want, and the other select would display all other records), but I'm wondering if is there perhaps a better way?   I have a file saved as UTF-8, and i'm reading it like this: ReadFile(hFile, pContents, pFile->nFileSize, &dwRead, NULL); (pContents is a BYTE* of size nFileSize) its just a small file with 100 bytes or so, contains text which i want to read into memory in wchar_t* format, so i can set the text of edit and static controls with the unicode text. How can i convert the bytes to UTF-8? edit (i don't want to use fstream or wfstream)

I noticed that the hibernate template session was old and would be storing cached values which didnt take into account the objects save with the session directly.   This seems like a no-brainer but I couldn't find anything on it. How do I detect if a date variant in Outlook is "empty"? For example TaskItem.DueDate - the duedate is not necessarily filled. If it's not filled Outlook returns "4501.01.01." - I can test for this value, but this just doesn't seem "elegant" enough. Thanks!
