  • QuickTime X incorrect aspect ratio for H.264 video

    I'm running Snow Leopard and have a serious issue with QuickTime X. I have a Samsung HMX-H100N/XAA camcorder that records H.264 video in either 720p or 1080i. In either of these resolutions, QuickTime X (and, by extension, all QuickTime-associated applications like FCP, iMovie, etc.) displays an incorrect aspect ratio for all video produced by this camcorder. For example, 720p video is reported as being 1280x720 in the movie inspector (which is normal), but the displayed size is always at an aspect ratio of something like 63:20 (never heard of such a ratio) with sizes like 1700x539. If I open the video in QuickTime 7 player on the same computer, it is displayed correctly. If I process the video through something like MPEG Streamclip to transcode it, it displays correctly. As it stands right now I have to transcode all of my video in order to use it in any iLive (or other QT-based application) unless I want it to look ridiculous. I've tried installing Perian, but that seemed to have no effect.

  • Apache Prepending Header Information to ALL FILES

    We're in the middle of setting up new servers, and have been having some odd problems with Apache. The file I copied the above text from is the prototype library js file. As loaded from our server. I've searched, but couldn't find much about this problem Maybe I don't know what I'm searching for... Anyway, if anyone has seen this behaviour before, could they please let me know either 1) how to fix it so that this content is not prepended to all files, or 2) where to look for further help.   • There are currently no logon servers available

    I am running a Windows 7 laptop that is joined to my company's domain. When I installed Windows 7, I created an account for myself, joined to the domain, and it had been working quite well even though I'm physically remote most of the time, and not actually on the network. However, today I created a new local user account (non-admin) for my little brother. While he was using it, he decided he wanted to install a program, because his account is not an admin, he was prompted to enter Administrator credentials to allow the program to make changes to his computer. I entered my credentials, and this is the first time I ran into the error message: There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon request. I tried logging off and loggin back in, rebooting, etc etc, and no matter what, every time I try to authenticate as my "normal" domain account - I get that message. I can no longer access my computer as an administrator. I no longer know how to log in to my machine using any other account aside from my little brother's non-admin account. I don't have any other local accounts created, and the default local admin account was never enabled. I'd appreciate any ideas on how I can recover access to my account. Let me know if I can provide any more information.   • What is the optimum way to secure a company wide wiki?

    We have a wiki which is used by over half our company. Generally it has been very positively received. However, there is a concern over security - not letting confidential information fall into the wrong hands (i.e. competitors). The default answer is to create a complicated security matrix defining who can read what document (wiki page) based on who created it. Personally I think this mainly solves the wrong problem because it creates barriers within the company instead of a barrier to the external world. But some are concerned that people at a customer site might share information with a customer which then goes to the competitor. The administration of such a matrix is a nightmare because (1) the matrix is based on department and not projects (this is a matrix organisation), and (2) because in a wiki all pages are by definition dynamic so what is confidential today might not be confidential tomorrow (but the history is always readable!). Apart from the security matrix, we've considered restricting content on the wiki to non super secret stuff, but off course that needs to be monitored. Another solution (the current) is to monitor views and report anything suspicious (e.g. one person at a customer site having 2000 views in two days was reported). Again - this is not ideal because this does not directly imply a wrong motive. Does anyone have a better solution? How can a company wide wiki be made secure and yet keep its low threshold USP? BTW we use MediaWiki with Lockdown to exclude some administrative staff.

  • Losing Windows Authentication intermittently

    I'm running a website on IIS6 / Server 2003 which uses Integrated Windows Authentication on a local intranet. I can browse to the site but get intermittent "Object null" errors when calling the following C# code which is called on every request: .... GetUserIdFromPrincipal(User) .... public static string GetUserIdFromPrincipal(IPrincipal principal) { return principal.Identity is WindowsIdentity ? (principal.Identity as WindowsIdentity).User.Value : principal.Identity.Name; } (Apologies for the code sample but was torn between SF and SO but think this is more to do with server config). So as the error is intermittent clearly Windows Auth is working on some level but after navigating around the site for several clicks I get the null reference error meaning IPrincipal is null (I thought this should never be null in ASP.NET). The error only happens on this newly built VM. The code is fine on other machines. Does IIS request the Windows Auth details on each request? What would cause such an intermittent problem? Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

  • Problem with fitting graphics card

    I have recently purchased a new radeon hd5670 graphics card. The problem I have is that it is what I might call a double height card. So the end where you fix the card to the case is twice the size of the card it is replacing. But this means that it is blocked by the rear of the network card. The only way I can see it to cut that part of the fixture part out then I won't have a problem. But has anyone any suggestions what I could use? To be clear it is not the actual card it is the fixture part which is 90 degress to the card that is causing the problem. Unless someone knows of another solution - some kind of pci-e extender that I could use as I could easily

  • How can I get windows to release an IPv6 address

    I have a windows system with an IPv4 address and an IPv6 address and I'm trying to figure out how to release my IPv6 address. I've tried ipconfig /release6 and I get this error An error occurred while releasing interface Local Area Connection : The system cannot find the file specified. An error occurred while releasing interface Loopback Pseudo-Interface 1 : The system cannot find the file specified. No operation can be performed on isatap.{6B874193-B28A-4446-B6E6-8ADAC22E5090} while it has its media disconnected. No operation can be performed on IP6Tunnel while it has its media disconnected. I still have my IPv6 address at the end. I can release IPv4 address using ipconfig /release

  • Computer loop restarts on Windows loading

    My computer restarts, just after or during Windows loading (4 squares getting together), or after some time on the desktop IF I'm idle. In order to start the computer I either have to swap my RAM (24Go) in differents DIMM slots, for example (I have 4 slots) : 1-2-4 or 2-3-4 or 1-3-4, not the same position each boot or it restarts in a loop... I can also change the ram timing from 1.5 to 1.6V and it starts, at the next reboot I have to change it again to 1.5 or it won't boot... And If after all, I succeed to boot, I have to use the computer for about 10 minutes, and it's ok, if I don't, it restarts by itself after some minutes. If I stay on the BIOS, It's all OK, I can stay for a whole year without restarting. I have check my RAM on Memtest (4*8G SDRAM DDR3) : OK I have check without graphic card : Still the same. I tried to reset the bios stack by getting it off and on : Still the same. I tried to reset my BIOS, and many settings about the RAM in the menu : Still the same. CPU temps are just fine (around 35°C) I was thinking ofc about the motherboard but I want to be sure. Motherboard : MSI zh77a-g43 RAM : 4*8G Dual Mode or not (depends on the number I put ofc.) PSU : 600W (enough to run all the config) CPU : i7 3770 non K

  • External speakers no longer working

    We have a Windows Vista laptop. On Monday we hooked it up to external speakers, as we always do, and they worked fine. On Tuesday, we did the same but then the speakers did not work. Weirdly, the laptop internal speaker does work. Nothing was changed between Monday and Tuesday. What happened and, more importantly, how can it be fixed? BTW we tested with other speakers (and cable) and that didn't help. So it seems like a laptop issue.

  • jQuery autocomplete - update options on dynamically created elements

    Background The user enters values into multiple inputs on the page. Think of entering a list of widgets for sale. The user would select the type of a widget from a drop down. Then enter the name of the Widget vendor, and then the actual name of the widget. These UI elements would all appear as one row. The user is able to click an "add another widget" link and a new row is created. The two input elements have autocomplete functionality attached to them using the DevBridge jQuery plugin. It suggests the name of the vendor and the name of the widget. I have recently wired up the logic to filter the name of the widget based on the name of the vendor you entered. This means setting the (custom) vendorName parameter when attaching the autocomplete plugin so it can be passed to the server side to retrieve the widget names for that vendor that match the name the user entered. To achieve this functionality I'm dynamically attaching the autocomplete functionality to the second element (the widget name text box) when it receives focus. Here is an example: $('.autocomplete-widget').live('focus', function () { $(this).autocomplete({ serviceUrl: '/something.ashx', params: { type: 'widget', vendorName: $(this).parent().prev().find('.autocomplete-vendor').val()} }); }); Problem At first glance, this looks to function quite well. However I started noticing some inconsistencies, and upon inspection, I found out that the call to the server is actually happening several times in some cases. Each time the widget name input element receives focus the autocomplete functionality is attached. And what I'm seeing is that the call to the server is made in proportion to how many times the input element has gained focus. I'd like to avoid making the call more than once, but retain the ability to attach (or update) the autocomplete functionality "on focus". I've tried to use the autocomplete 'setOptions' method but have only been able to get it to work with the static elements, not the dynamically created elements. Question Is there a way I can clear out the autocomplete functionality before I attach another one?

  • ASP.NET GridView second header row to span main header row

    I have an ASP.NET GridView which has columns that look like this: | Foo | Bar | Total1 | Total2 | Total3 | Is it possible to create a header on two rows that looks like this? | | Totals | | Foo | Bar | 1 | 2 | 3 | The data in each row will remain unchanged as this is just to pretty up the header and decrease the horizontal space that the grid takes up. The entire GridView is sortable in case that matters. I don't intend for the added "Totals" spanning column to have any sort functionality. Don't forget the closing tag. Another edit: You can also do this without creating a custom class. The event handler method is a bit simpler, though.

  • ASP.NET DataList - defining "columns/rows" when repeating horizontal and using flow layout

    Here is my DataList: <asp:DataList id="DataList" Visible="false" RepeatDirection="Horizontal" Width="100%" HorizontalAlign="Justify" RepeatLayout="Flow" runat="server"> [Contents Removed] </asp:DataList> This generates markup that has each item wrapped in a span. From there, I'd like to break each of these spans out into rows of three columns. Ideally I would like something like this: <div> <span>Item 1</span> <span>Item 2</span> <span>Item 3</span> </div> <div> <span>Item 4</span> <span>Item 5</span> <span>Item 6</span> </div> [etc] The closest I can get to this is to set RepeatColumns to "3" and then a <br> is inserted after every three items in the DataList. <span>Item 1</span> <span>Item 2</span> <span>Item 3</span> <br> <span>Item 4</span> <span>Item 5</span> <span>Item 6</span> <br> This gets me kind of close, but really doesn't do the trick - I still can't control the layout the way I'd like to be able to. Can anyone suggest a way to make this better? If I could implement the above example - that would be perfect, however I'd accept a less elegant solution as well - as long as its more flexible than <br> (such as inserting a <span class="clear"></span> instead of <br>).

  • Bugs in Excel's ActiveX combo boxes?

    I have noticed that I get all sorts of annoying errors when: I have ActiveX comboboxes on a worksheet (not an excel form) The comboboxes have event code linked to them (eg, onchange events) I use their listfillrange or linkedcell properties (clearing these properties seems to alleviate a lot of problems) (Not sure if this is connected) but there is data validation on the targeted linkedcell. I program a fairly complex excel application that does a ton of event handling and uses a lot of controls. Over the months, I have been trying to deal with a variety of bugs dealing with those combo boxes. I can't recall all the details of each instance now, but these bugs tend to involve pointing the listfillrange and linkedcell properties at named ranges, and often have to do with the combo box events triggering at inappropriate times (such as when application.enableevents = false). These problems seemed to grow bigger in Excel 2007, so that I had to give up on these combo boxes entirely (I now use combo boxes contained in user forms, rather than directly on the sheets). Has anyone else seen similar problems? If so, was there a graceful solution? I have looked around with Google and so far haven't spotted anyone with similar issues. Some of the symptoms I end up seeing are: Excel crashing when I start up (involves combobox_onchange, listfillrange-named range on another different sheet, and workbook_open interactions). (note, I also had some data validation on the the linked cells in case a user edited them directly.) Excel rendering bugs (usually when the combo box changes, some cells from another sheet get randomly drawn over the top of the current sheet) Sometimes it involves the screen flashing entirely to another sheet for a moment. Excel losing its mind (or rather, the call stack) (related to the first bullet point). Sometimes when a function modifies a property of the comboboxes, the combobox onchange event fires, but it never returns control to the function that caused the change in the first place. The combobox_onchange events are triggered even when application.enableevents = false. Events firing when they shouldn't (I posted another question on stack overflow related to this). At this point, I am fairly convinced that ActiveX comboboxes are evil incarnate and not worth the trouble. I have switched to including these comboboxes inside a userform module instead. I would rather inconvenience users with popup forms than random visual artifacts and crashing (with data loss).

  • When programatically creating a new IIS web site, how can I add it to an existing application pool?

    I have successfully automated the process of creating a new IIS website, however the code I've written doesn't care about application pools, it just gets added to DefaultAppPool. However I'd like to add this newly created site to an existing application pool.   • Good tutorial for ASP.net mvc 2

    I am an experienced asp.net web forms developer using c# but i have never used asp.net MVC. As I am just starting out with mvc i would like to start with mvc 2. I am looking for a good intro/tutorial to help me understand the basics. I am aware of the Nerd Dinner but that is based around MVC 1. What would you guys recomend for me to get started. Should i work through the nerd dinner tutorial then once i have a good understanding of mvc then research the new features of mvc 2 or is there a similar getting started tutorial for mvc 2. Sugestions of good books to read are also welcome. In fact any advice on getting started on mvc 2 would be good.

  • Creating Drill-Down Detail UITableView from JSON NSDictionary

    I'm have a load of trouble finding out how to do this, I want to show this in a UITableDetailView (Drill-Down style) with each item in a different cell. All of the things I've read all show how to load a single image on the detail instead of showing as a UITableView. Does the dictionary have to have "children" in order to load correctly? Here is the code for the first view creating *dict from the JSON rowsArray. I guess what I'm looking for is what to put in the FollowingDetailViewController.m to see the rest of *dict contents, so when selecting a row, it loads the rest of the *dict. I have rowsArray coming back as follows: '{ loginName = Johnson; memberid = 39; name = Kris; age = ;}, etc,etc...     Im having trouble with a web application that will deadlock occasionally There are 3 queries involved. 2 are trying to update a table UPDATE AttendanceRoll SET ErrorFlag = 0 WHERE ContractID = @ContractID AND DATEPART(month,AttendanceDate) = DATEPART(month,@Month_Beginning) AND DATEPART(year,AttendanceDate) = DATEPART(year,@Month_Beginning) and one is trying to insert into the table INSERT INTO AttendanceRoll (AttendanceDate, ContractID, PersonID, StartTime, EndTime, Hours, AbsenceReason, UpdateCount, SplitShiftID, ModifiedBy, ModifiedDate) SELECT @P33, @P34, @P35, CONVERT(datetime,REPLACE( @P36 ,&apos;.&apos;,&apos;:&apos;)), CONVERT(datetime,REPLACE( @P37 ,&apos;.&apos;,&apos;:&apos;)), @P38, @P39, @P40, 1, @P41, GETDATE() The deadlock graph shows a kind of circular arangement of page locks and an exchange event and the 2 update queries have the same server process id. If anyone has any ideas about how I should go about solving this issue it would be most appreciated. I have the deadlock graph that I can post if anybody needs to see it. Thanks Carl R
