  • partially connected application using asp.net 3.5 (not mobile apps)

    We had a requirement to build a ASP.NET 3.5 web application using web forms, WCF, ADO.NET and SQL Server. The users would connect via Internet. Recently we understood that it is possible that users would often remain disconnected and would have Internet access intermittently. I need to understand if we can create occasionally connected web application using asp.net 3.5 - what all technologies/features we need to use? Is MS Sync Framework the answer to the problem - is it a viable option to use with web application? Is windows application the right approach instead of web applications - where the business logic would be run at the client itself, using local SQL Express editions with data then been synced up with Enterprise SQL server at server end when connection is established using replication and/or MS Sync framework. In that case is there a need to use WCF? Does Silverlight applications help in this context -building paritally connected web apps? Really appreciate if you can give pointers to how to go about this task of creating .net partially connected apps (not mobile apps)?

  • best practises to delete a set of tables in sql 2008

    Basically i want to keep the transaction very simple but i should be able to rollback if any error in the later part. Something like mentioned below, BEGIN TRANSACTION DELETE SET 1(this will delete first set of table) COMMIT DELETE SET 2 (will delete second set of table) If any error occurs while deleting set 2 i should be able to rollback set 1 transaction as well.Let me know if we have any options to do like this.   • How to change the position of the Horizontal line dynamically ?

    I am making asp.net website. In that there is a link button (named Landline number).Below that there are three textboxes. And after that there is one horizontal line. Now at a first time only link button and horizontal will be visible, and textboxes which is bellowed to link button will not be visible. Now if user will click on the link button then textboxes which is bellowed to link button will be visible. Then horizontal line which is at the first time bellowed to the link button should be adjust to its location and should go after textboxes. And if user clicks to link button again then textboxes should be visible false. And horizontal line should be displayed its original position that is bellowed to the link button. Of course I am able to do with visibility of textboxes but I can not understand how to change the position of the horizontal line dynamically?

    I want to be able to take the user to the requested page after login, but this does not happen with sfGuard. ** My Register action requires SignIn ;) ** On the listing page [http://cim/frontend_dev.php/] - user clicks the 'Register' link [@register = register/index] - user is taken to 'Signin' page provided by sfGuard - after sign-in, user is taken back to the Listing page (instead of Register) This is quite annoying! But logical, because the referrer is the listing page. How can I change logic to make @register the referrer?     hi all... i need a way to "saveas" .doc file in open office to .txt .i need a program in Perl which can do that automatically.that means i don't want to open that word document and go to saveas and do it...what i need is i will just give word document name and that script should give the corresponding txt file as output. one important thing is my system is Linux based one.i saw the same program for windows system here only. but i need this program in Linux. that to "antiword" ,"catdoc","wv ware" commends are not working in my Linux.. please help me regarding this. thank u in advance.

  • Spikes in Socket Performance

    We are facing random spikes in high throughput transaction processing system using sockets for IPC. Below is the setup used for the run: The client opens and closes new connection for every transaction, and there are 4 exchanges between the server and the client. We have disabled the TIME_WAIT, by setting the socket linger (SO_LINGER) option via getsockopt as we thought that the spikes were caused due to the sockets waiting in TIME_WAIT. There is no processing done for the transaction. Only messages are passed. OS used Centos 5.4 The average round trip time is around 3 milli seconds, but some times the round trip time ranges from 100 milli seconds to couple of seconds. Steps used for Execution and Measurement and output Starting the server $ python sockServerLinger.py /dev/null & Starting the client to post 1 million transactions to the server. And logs the time for a transaction in the client.log file. $ python sockClient.py 1000000 client.log Once the execution finishes the following command will show the execution time greater than 100 milliseconds in the format <line_number>:<execution_time>. $ grep -n "0.[1-9]" client.log | less Below is the example code for Server and Client.   • jQuery/AJAX type-ahead/auto-complete

    I have read several articles/questions/forums discussing the best auto-complete plugin for jQuery. After trying several good ones, I've realized a flaw in most. If you are looking up countries and type 'In', a couple of countries show up. If you continue typing I-n-d-i-a, this results in 5 AJAX calls (see http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/6f1bcd69e1.png) its quite natural that India is a subset of In, so why call again? We need to simply filter the retrieved list client-side. Anyone knows about such an implementation? What is the status of the Jquery Autocomplete feature? I read at StackOverflow that it is no longer available with Jquery; but the Jquery website has a 'New' mark besides the link to Autocomplete. Thanks

    With reference to the question I asked couple of days back, it seems to me that address bar cannot be hidden from a xpages mobile web application when it is launched from a href link. Choice is limited to href as "location.assign" or any javascript will not work on mails accessed by lotus traveller. I tried almost 20 different variations published by other experts to hide address bar and none seems to work. Am I wrong in stating that "it is not possible to hide address bar in Xpages mobile web application on ipad when not launched from home screen"?
