  • Calling a WCF service from Java

    As the title says, I need to get some Java 1.5 code to call a WCF web service. I've downloaded and used Metro to generate Java proxy classes, but they aren't generating what I expect, and I believe this is because of the WSDL that the WCF service generates. Since this service has always worked in Visual Studio I've never questioned this before, but maybe that could be causing my problem? Anyhow, when I run Metro's wsimport.bat on the service the following error message is generated: [WARNING] src-resolve.4.2: Error resolving component 'q1:guid' and the outputted Java version of TestResponse lacks any of the properties from ResponseMessage. I hacked the WSDL a bit and changed ErrorIdentifier to be typed as xsd:string, which makes the message about resolving the GUID type go away, but I still don't get any of ResponseMessage's properties. Finally, I altered the WSDL to include the 3 properties from ResponseMessage in TestResponse, and of course the end result is that the generated .java file contains them. However, when I actually call the WCF service from Java, those 3 properties are always null. Any advice, apart from writing the proxy classes myself?

  • Safari Back button not honouring PHP logout session

    I've got a logout.php page which ends a user's session and works well and does the following: session_start(); session_unset(); session_destroy(); I've just noticed when testing with Safari that when you logout you can click the back button to return to the previous page which requires authentication but are not prompted. You cannot navigate away from this page without entering the navigation but it should not be displaying the previous page in the first place. So far in my testing this is only an issue with Safari on Mac OS X and there are a number of other reports about this but with no resolution that I could find: http://www.experts-exchange.com/Web_Development/Web_Languages-Standards/PHP/Q_23702691.html I would love to be able to disable this behaviour with Safari's back button - surprised that this is happening in the first place.     What I need to do is rewriting this address: (1) http://localhost/wordpress/fake/text-value to (2) http://localhost/wordpress/gallery?somevar=text-value Notes: the remapping must be transparent: the user always has to see address (1) gallery is a permalink to a wordpress page, not a real address I basically need to rewrite the address first (to modify it) and then feed it back to mod rewrite again (to let wordpress parse it its own way). Problems if I simply do RewriteRule ^fake$ http://localhost/wordpress/gallery [L] it works but the address in the browser changes, which is no good, if I do RewriteRule ^fake$ /wordpress/gallery [L] I get a 404. I tried different flags instead of [L] but to no avail. How can I get this to work?

  • Integrating Search Server 2008 Express with WSS 3.0

    I'm setting up the environment for an intranet using WSS (Windows SharePoint Services) 3.0. The catch is getting the environment configured to work with MS Search Server 2008 Express. Here's the environment I'd like to setup: A: Web Server; Win Server 2003 SP2; WSS 3.0 SP2; IIS 6.0; .NET 3.5 SP1 B: Search Server; Win Server 2003 SP2; WSS 3.0 SP2; IIS 6.0; .NET 3.5 SP1; Search Server 2008 Express C: Database Server; Win Server 2003 SP2; SQL Server 2000 SP3 - Admin db, Content db, Config db, Search db The question is whether 3 servers can be used like the above configuration or if the Search Server (B) has to be combined with (A) since we're using the free Express version of the Search Server. The documentation from MS doesn't make it clear either way. I can attack this problem with trial and error but would rather not. The bigger question is: What is the best practice for a WSS / Search Server installation?

  • Conditional Validation using JQuery Validation Plugin

    I have a simple html form that I've added validation to using the JQuery Validation plugin. I have it working for single fields that require a value. I now need to extend that so that if a user answers Yes to a question they must enter something in the Details field, otherwise the Details field can be left blank.   • Is copying /var/lib/mysql a good alterntive to mysqldump?

    Since I'm making a full backup of my entire debian system, I was thinking if having a copy of /var/lib/mysql directory is a viable alternative to dumping tables with mysqldump. are all informations needed contained in that directory? can single tables be imported in another mysql? can there be problems while restoring those files on a (probably slightly) different mysql server version?

  • Using IOperationBehavior to supply a WCF parameter

    This is my first step into the world of stackoverflow, so apologies if I cock anything up. I'm trying to create a WCF Operation which has a parameter that is not exposed to the outside world, but is instead automatically passed into the function. So the world sees this: int Add(int a, int b) But it is implemented as: int Add(object context, int a, int b) Then, the context gets supplied by the system at run-time. The example I'm working with is completely artificial, but mimics something that I'm looking into in a real-world scenario. I'm able to get close, but not quite the whole way there. First off, I created a simple method and wrote an application to confirm it works. It does. It returns a + b and writes the context as a string to my debug. Yay. The trouble is that whenver I run the code, it gets past the AllocateInputs and then throws an Index was outside the bounds of the Array. error somewhere in the WCF guts. I've tried other things, and I find that I can successfully change the type of the parameter and rename it and have my code work. But the moment I remove the parameter it falls over. Can anyone give me some idea of how to get this to work (or if it can be done at all).

  • Why is giving a fixed width to a label an accepted behavior?

    There are a lot of questions about formatting forms so that labels align, and almost all the answers which suggest a pure CSS solution (as opposed to using a table) provide a fixed width to the label element. But isn't this mixing content and presentation? In order to choose the right width you basically have to see how big your longest label is and try a pixel width value until "it fits". This means that if you change your labels you also have to change your CSS.

  • Trying to filter a ListView with runQueryOnBackgroundThread but nothing happens - what am I missing?

    I have a list of countries in a database. I have created a select country activity that consists of a edit box for filtering and a list which displays the flag and country name. When the activity starts the list shows the entire list of countries sorted alphabetically - works fine. When the customer starts typing into the search box I want the list to be filtered based on their typing. My database query was previously working in an AutoCompleteView (I just want to switch to a separate text box and list) so I know my full query and my constraint query are working. What I did was add a TextWatcher to the EditText view and every time the text is changed I invoke the list's SimpleCursorAdapter runQueryOnBackgroundThread with the edit boxes text as the constraint. The trouble is the list is never updated. I have set breakpoints in the debugger and the TextWatcher does make the call to runQueryOnBackgroundThread and my FilterQueryProvider is called with the expected constraint. The database query goes fine and the cursor is returned.   • Possible to get the line number of the currently executing sproc in SQL Server?

    A few years back I worked in a Sybase/Delphi environment, using the BDE to connect to the DB server. We had a little Delphi app that, given the name of a currently executing stored procedure, could tell you what line of that sproc was currently being executed. This was exceptionally useful for debugging sprocs that seemed to be hanging. I'd like to use this functionality in SQL Server, but I can't remember whether it was a Sybase or a BDE feature. Is this functionality available in SQL Server and if so, what command(s) do I need to use to view this information?

  • Wordpress pages address rewrite

    UPDATE I tried using the internal wordpress rewrite. What I have to do is an address like this: http://example.com/galleria/artist-name sent to the gallery.php page with a variable containing the artist-name. Any idea what could possibly cause this different behavior? Alternatively, any other way I couldn't think of which could achieve the same effect described in the first three lines is perfectly fine.   • Use case for output buffering as the correct solution to "headers already sent"

    I see (not just on this site) a lot of question from inexperienced PHP programmers about the infamous "headers already sent... output started at" error, and many people suggest using ouput buffering as a solution. In my experience I have never found a situation where that error wasn't caused by a flow in the program's logic. Are there cases where output buffering is actually the correct solution?

  • How to create GUI as inner class with WindowBuilder

    I would like to use WindowBuilder in Eclipse to construct Swing GUIs. The JPanels I need to build will be inner classes in a non-GUI wrapper, like so: public class MyWrapper extends MyBaseClass { ... class MyPanel extends JPanel { ... } } So my question is this: can I construct MyPanel using WindowBuilder? If so, how should I set it up? If anyone is interested, the wrapper is an abstract base class which the plug-ins I am developing for my app must extend; deployment concerns mean that it's not really practical to put the GUIs in a separate JAR either so I pretty much have to do it this way. My current workflow, which is awful, is to build the GUI in NetBeans and paste the entire generated class into Eclipse where I connect it up to the methods in my wrapper. I am very hopeful that WindowBuilder will let me work more reliably and efficiently if I can trick it into generating code in MyPanel, not MyWrapper. Thanks

  • ReplaceAll not working as expected

    Still early days with Mathematica so please forgive what is probably a very obvious question. I am trying to generate some parametric plots. I have: ParametricPlot[{ (a + b) Cos[t] - h Cos[(a + b)/b t], (a + b) Sin[t] - h Sin[(a + b)/b t]}, {t, 0, 2 \[Pi]}, PlotRange -> All] /. {a -> 2, b -> 1, h -> 1} No joy: the replacement rules are not applied and a, b and h remain undefined. If I instead do: Hold@ParametricPlot[{ (a + b) Cos[t] - h Cos[(a + b)/b t], (a + b) Sin[t] - h Sin[(a + b)/b t]}, {t, 0, 2 \[Pi]}, PlotRange -> All] /. {a -> 2, b -> 1, h -> 1} it looks like the rules ARE working, as confirmed by the output: Hold[ParametricPlot[{(2 + 1) Cos[t] - 1 Cos[(2 + 1) t], (2 + 1) Sin[t] - 1 Sin[(2 + 1) t]}, {t, 0, 2 \[Pi]}, PlotRange -> All]] Which is what I'd expect. Take the Hold off, though, and the ParametricPlot doesn't work. There's nothing wrong with the equations or the ParametricPlot itself, though, because I tried setting values for a, b and h in a separate expression (a=2; b=1; h=1) and I get my pretty double cardoid out as expected. So, what am I doing wrong with ReplaceAll and why are the transformation rules not working? This is another fundamentally important aspect of MMA that my OOP-ruined brain isn't understanding. I tried reading up on ReplaceAll and ParametricPlot and the closest clue I found was that "ParametricPlot has attribute HoldAll and evaluates f only after assigning specific numerical values to variables" which didn't help much or I wouldn't be here.   • A short but intense GCC Gathering in London

    About one week ago I joined in London many long time GCC friends and acquaintances for a gathering organized by Google (in particular I guess should be thanked Diego and Ian). Only a weekend, and I wasn't able to attend on Sunday morning, but a very good occasion to raise some issues in a very relaxed way, in particular those at the border between areas of competence, which are the most difficult to discuss during the normal work days. If you are interested in a general overview and some notes this is a good link: http://gcc.gnu.org/wiki/GCCGathering2011 As you may easily guess, the third topic is mine, which I managed to have up quite early on Friday morning thanks to the votes of some good friends like Dodji (the ordering of the topics resulted from democratic voting on Friday evening!). I learned a lot from the discussion: for example that certainly the new C++11 'final' should be exploited largely in the c++ front-end; the various reasons why devirtualization can be quite trick (but I'm really confident that Martin and Honza are going to make a good progress also basing on a set of short testcases which I promised to collect); that, as explained by Ian, the gold linker already implements the nice --icf (Identical Code Folding) facility, which some friends of mine are definitely going to like (however, see: http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=12919). I also enjoyed the observations made by Lawrence, where he remarked that in C+11 we are going to see more pointer iterations implicitly produced by the new range-based for-loop and we really want to make sure the loop optimizers are able to deal with those as well as loops explicitly using a counter. All in all, I really hope we are going to do it again!

  • How to directly rotate CVImageBuffer image in IOS 4 without converting to UIImage?

    I am using OpenCV 2.2 on the iPhone to detect faces. I'm using the IOS 4's AVCaptureSession to get access to the camera stream, as seen in the code that follows. My challenge is that the video frames come in as CVBufferRef (pointers to CVImageBuffer) objects, and they come in oriented as a landscape, 480px wide by 300px high. This is fine if you are holding the phone sideways, but when the phone is held in the upright position I want to rotate these frames 90 degrees clockwise so that OpenCV can find the faces correctly. I could convert the CVBufferRef to a CGImage, then to a UIImage, and then rotate, as this person is doing: Rotate CGImage taken from video frame However that wastes a lot of CPU. I'm looking for a faster way to rotate the images coming in, ideally using the GPU to do this processing if possible. Any ideas?   • Asp.net Google Charts SSL handler for GeoMap

    Hi All, I am trying to view Google charts in a site using SSL. Google Charts do not support SSL so if we use the standard charts, we get warning messages. My plan is to create a ASHX handler that is co9ntained in the secure site that will retrieve the content from Google and serve this to the page the user is viewing. Using VS 2008 SP1 and the included web server, my idea works perfectly for both Firefox and IE 8 & 9(Preview) and I am able to see my geomap displayed on my page as it should be. But my problem is when I publish to IIS7 the page using my handler to generate the geomap works in Firefox but not IE(every version). There are no errors anywhere or in any log files, but when i right click in IE in the area where the map should be displayed, I see the message in the context menu saying "movie not loaded" Below is the code from my handler and the aspx page. I have disabled compression in my web.config. Even in IE I am hitting all my break points and when I use the IE9 Developer tools, the web page is correctly generated with all the correct code, url's and references. If you have any better ways to accomplish this or how i can fix my problem, I will appreciate it.     MVP in Virtual Machines Last week, on 1st April, I received an e-mail from Microsoft letting me know that I had been presented with a 2010 Microsoft® MVP Award for outstanding contributions in Virtual Machine technical communities during the past year.   It was an honour to be nominated, and is a great reflection on the vibrancy of the UK user group community which made this possible. Virtualisation for developers, not just IT Pros I consider it a special honour as my expertise in virtualisation is as a software developer utilising virtual machines to aid my software development, rather than an IT Pro who manages data centre and network infrastructure.  I’ve been on a minor mission over the past few years to enthuse developers in a topic usually seen as only for network admins, but which can make their life a whole lot easier once understood properly. Continuous learning is fun In 1676, the scientist Isaac Newton, in a letter to Robert Hooke used the phrase (http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/268025.html) ‘If I have seen a little further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants’ I’m a nuclear physicist by education, so I am more than comfortable that any knowledge I have is based on the work of others.  Although far from a science, software development and IT is equally built upon the work of others. It’s one of the reasons I despise software patents. So in that sense this MVP award is a result of all the great minds that have provided virtualisation solutions for me to talk about.  I hope that I have always acknowledged those whose work I have used when blogging or giving presentations, and that I have executed my responsibility to share any knowledge gained as widely as possible. Thanks to all those who helped – a big thanks to the UK user group community I reckon this journey started in 2003 when I started attending a user group called the London .Net Users Group (http://www.dnug.org.uk) started by a nice chap called Ian Cooper. The great thing about Ian was that he always encouraged non professional speakers to take the stage at the user group, and my first ever presentation was on 30th September 2003; SQL Server CE 2.0 and the.NET Compact Framework. In 2005 Ian Cooper was on the committee for the first DeveloperDeveloperDeveloper! day, the free community conference held at Microsoft’s UK HQ in Thames Valley park in Reading.  He encouraged me to take part and so on 14th May 2005 I presented a talk previously given to the London .Net User Group on Simplifying access to multiple DB providers in .NET.  From that point on I definitely had the bug; presenting at DDD2, DDD3, groking at DDD4 and SQLBits I and after a break, DDD7, DDD Scotland and DDD8.  What definitely made me keen was the encouragement and infectious enthusiasm of some of the other DDD organisers; Craig Murphy, Barry Dorrans, Phil Winstanley and Colin Mackay. During the first few DDD events I met the Dave McMahon and Richard Costall from NxtGenUG who made it easy to start presenting at their user groups.  Along the way I’ve met a load of great user group organisers; Guy Smith-Ferrier of the .Net Developer Network, Jimmy Skowronski of GL.Net and the double act of Ray Booysen and Gavin Osborn behind what was Vista Squad and is now Edge UG. Final thanks to those who suggested virtualisation as a topic ... Final thanks have to go the people who inspired me to create my Virtualisation for Developers talk.  Toby Henderson (@holytshirt) ensured I took notice of Sun’s VirtualBox, Peter Ibbotson for being a fine sounding board at the Kew Railway over quite a few Adnam’s Broadside and to Guy Smith-Ferrier for allowing his user group to be the guinea pigs for the talk before it was seen at DDD7.  Thanks to all of you I now know much more about virtualisation than I would have thought possible and it continues to be great fun. Conclusion If this was an academy award acceptance speech I would have been cut off after the first few paragraphs, so well done if you made it this far.  I’ll be doing my best to do justice to the MVP award and the UK community.  I’m fortunate in having a new employer who considers presenting at user groups as a good thing, so don’t expect me to stop any time soon.   • Can't attach EC2 instance to Network Interface

    When trying to attach a network interface, it says... No instances were found for this availability zone. My instance is in us-east-1c and my network interface is in us-east-1b. Is that significant? If so, how do I create the VPC in the same zone and if not then why this error? EDIT: I've re-created the VPC and the Network Interface is now us-east-1c and the EC2 instance is also us-east-1c. Same error message though!

  • Cannot reactivate RAID-5 volume: The size of the plex member is invalid

    We had a 3-drive Windows Server 2008 R2 RAID-5 fail (operating in redundancy mode): WDC 1 TB WDC 1 TB WDC 1 TB We removed the failed hard drive, and put a WDC 1 TB drive (that we had standing by) into the machine. When launched, Disk Manager, asked permission to "initialize" the disk as either: Master Boot Record (MBR) Guid Partition Table (GPT) We initialized the disk as GPT, converted it to dynamic, and tried to use the Repair Volume command - except it was greyed out. (which is a terrifying thing on a failed production server hosting 3 virtual servers) i tried from the diskpart command line tool.
