• Virtual Networks in Oracle Solaris - Part 5

             A         long         time      ago in a    blogosphere   far, far away... I wrote four blog entries to describe the new network virtualization features that were in Solaris 11 Express: Part 1 introduced the concept of network virtualization and listed the basic virtual network elements. Part 2 expanded on the concepts and discussed the resource management features. Part 3 demonstrated the creation of some of these virtual network elements. Part 4 demonstrated the network resource controls. I had planned a final entry that added virtual routers to the list of virtual network elements, but Jeff McMeekin wrote a paper that discuses the same features. That paper is available at OTN. And this Jeff can't write any better than that Jeff... All of the features described in those blog entries and that paper are also available in Solaris 11. It is possible that some details have changed, but the vast majority of the content is unchanged.

• Design: How to model / where to store relational data between classes

  I'm trying to figure out the best design here, and I can see multiple approaches, but none that seems "right." There are three relevant classes here: Base, TradingPost, and Resource. Each Base has a TradingPost which can offer various Resources depending on the Base's tech level. Where is the right place to store the minimum tech level a base must possess to offer any given resource? A database seems like overkill. Putting it in each subclass of Resource seems wrong--that's not an intrinsic property of the Resource. Do I have a mediating class, and if so, how does it work? It's important that I not be duplicating code; that I have one place where I set the required tech level for a given item. Essentially, where does this data belong? P.S. Feel free to change the title; I struggled to come up with one that fits.

I run an English Laboratory in a University (Our PC's are old and slow) so I want to install Ubuntu on all of them so the students can have a better experience here, the problem is tha we NEED Tell me more Software which I believe it's only for windiws. How can I install it in ubuntu? do I need wine or a virtual machine with Windows? please help! and thank you so much!!

• Website Registration Date

  I recently registered a website : cinematrailers.net. I was aware that this domain was expired ( registered in 2007 until 2011) My question is when I go to view the registration date on this domain, it says 2012 instead of 2007. Why is that when it was clearly registered in 2007? And will this affect seo? I was under the assumption that the domains age would be great for seo, but now I'm not sure.

• 12.04 - why does the network icon dissapear every time my machine is turned off

  After spending an hour or two working out how to find the network Icon, I find that when I reboot the machine, I have to go through the whole procedure again. 1. The network menu is not there - so first I have to find the terminal. This has no particular location that I can find but usually I have to type terminal in the dash. 2. Then I have to type nm-applet in terminal 3. The network manager icon then appears, but only works if the terminal window remains open. Shut down the terminal window and the network disappears. This is a pain - plus I have to type my password in every time, which is another waste of time, thought this has always been a problem. So can anyone tell me how to make the web automatically connect at startup without any intervention from me.

• Storing data offline with javascript

  My question is about storing data offline and potentially whether I will need to bring in an outside programmer or could this be learned within a few weeks? The website I am working on will have an interface where users will login and go through a series of quizzes in the form of checkbox, drop down menus, and others. Each page/quiz area could have 20-100 total checkboxes in a series of 3-5 rows because of the comprehensive nature of course. This I can do - I know how to code the quiz and return a correct or incorrect answer based on each individual checkbox and present a cumulative score (ie: you got 57% correct). The issue lies in the fact that I would like to save the users results and keep them informed of their progress. When they complete all of the quizzes, I would like to have a visual output of their performance in each area. Storing the output from their results offline is where I think I may run into a problem with my lack of coding experience. I would also like to have a sidebar with their progress of each section (10-15) with a green percentage completion bar or a % correct which would draw from this. I have never had to code something that stores information like this offline - so back to my question - would it be better to learn the language needed or bring in a coder/developer for the back end stuff.

• Googlebot requesting invalid url

  I have a web app which emails me exceptions automatically. This morning there was an error relating to a url: /Catalog/LiveCatalog?id=ylwpfqzts id is invalid (should be a guid) and caused an error parsing. Everything was handled correctly, and an error page is returned. But what was odd is that the user-agent reported itself as Googlebot and the IP is registered to Google. The URL would never have been generated by my web app but doesn't look particularly malicious. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

• Korea&rsquo;s Anti Abortion / Pro Life Movement

  The South Korean government is in dire straits.  The national birth rate continues to decline and as the population grows older, there aren’t enough children being born to support the country long term.  The social issues of post Korean War are coming back to haunt the empowered nation.  Being torn apart by the Korean War (nicknamed the forgotten war in America) and with a nation facing starvation, South Korea allowed hundreds of thousands of their children to be adopted abroad.  This has created a problem of epidemic proportions, essentially devaluing life in Korea and child rearing. In an effort to encourage birth rates, the government encouraged their workers to go home early and procreate by turning off the lights in buildings.  Something unknown to me, was the illegalization of abortion except in special cases. According to the this article, http://joongangdaily.joins.com it’s working.  Abortions are down and women are being encouraged to give birth.  However the flip side is illegal risky abortions are on the rise, with potential back alley abortions looming.  But with a nation facing it’s potential implosion, it has to continue it’s efforts to encourage mothers to give birth. Many of the issues that America has faced is in stark contrast to South Korea.  Abortion has been a generally accepted procedure for some time.  If you’ll recall, I mentioned South Korea devalued their children.  But the nation’s problems lie so much deeper.  Being an Asian nation, saving “face” is an important aspect of life.  And being an unwed mother disgraces the family.  Living as a single mother in South Korea is a difficult life.  Most married mothers stay at home to take care of the children.  Being a shunned single mother that has a hard time getting a job (because you are a single mother) and affording child care isn’t like life in America. If we in the states suddenly faced a birthrate crisis, what would the U.S. government do?

• iphone dev - could clone ABRecord ?

  Hi, I want to delete one ABPerson (say, person) in address book then add another one (say new), since some parts of attributes may be reused, I want to clone 'person' to 'new', here is my question, it seems there is NO function to do this clone, I found ABRecordCreateCopy but it seems to be MAC specified, Is there any api I could use to avoid copy each properties one by one ? • XStream serializable objects

  I am currently using XStream to serialize some of my objects that don't implement Serializable. Is there a way to tell XStream to use Java's default serialization if the object does implement Serializable and to fall back on XML serialization if it does not? • Looking for MDI Manager with tab grouping that allows show and hide of groups?

  I am looking for a MDI manager solution that allows documents to be grouped and show/hidden programmaticly. Example, 3 document types, red, yellow and green. When you click a button the MDI manager shows only the red documents by hiding the other 2 types tabs. None of the MDI managers (Actipro, Infragistics, etx) I have looked at can do this. They require all documents to be visible... Anyone know of a good solution for this in C#? Thanks, Jeff

• JUnit Rule TemporaryFolder

  I'm creating a TemporaryFolder using the @Rule annotation in JUnit 4.7. I've tried to create a new folder that is a child of the temp folder using tempFolder.newFolder("someFolder") in the @Before (setup) method of my test. It seems as though the temporary folder gets initialized after the setup method runs, meaning I can't use the temporary folder in the setup method. Is this correct (and predictable) behavior? thanks, Jeff

  Are there any libraries that instrument code to verify that methods called on swing components are called on the event dispatch thread? It probably wouldn't be too difficult to write some basic code for doing this, but I'm sure there are edge cases and whatnot that other people have handled. • grails set bean value from radio button

  I'm somewhat new to grails (not groovy though) and I'm working on a sample CRUD application. The issue I'm trying to solve is how to set a property on a bean based on a radio button before I update it in the database. Is the Form Helper http://www.grails.org/plugin/form-helper plugin the way to go? Will the bean have its value set regardless of if the button is actually clicked by the user or if it is left at its default value? thanks, Jeff

• maven project with netbeans compiles fully on every run

  I was experimenting with Netbeans 6.8 (I'm currently an Eclipse user) because I like having a profiler built into the IDE. It seems that for maven projects, netbeans does a full compile (it invokes process-classes) every time I try to run the project, as opposed to Eclipse, which uses the incremental Java compiler. Is there a way to avoid having netbeans run mvn process-classes every time I want to run the main class? thanks, Jeff

• GCC exports decorated function name only from dll

  Hi Guys, I have a dll, it exports a function... extern "C" int __stdcall MP_GetFactory( gmpi::IMpUnknown** returnInterface ) { } I compile this with Code::Blocks GCC compiler (V3.4.5). Problem: resulting dll exports decorated function name... MP_GetFactory@4 This fails to load, should be plain old... MP_GetFactory I've researched this for about 4 hours. I think --add-stdcall-alias is the option to fix this. My Code::Blocks log shows... mingw32-g++.exe -shared -Wl,--out-implib=bin\Debug\libGainGCC.a -Wl,--dll obj\Debug\se_sdk3\mp_sdk_audio.o obj\Debug\se_sdk3\mp_sdk_common.o obj\Debug\Gain\Gain.o obj\Debug\Gain\gain.res -o bin\Debug\GainGCC.sem --add-stdcall-alias -luser32 ..so I think that's the correct option in there? But no luck. Dependancy Walker show only the decorated name being exported. I got It to kinda work by using __cdecl instead of __stdcall, the name is then exported ok, but the function corrupts the stack when called (because the caller expected the other calling convention).

• How do I configured postfix and to use SES, and still be able to forward email from unverified external addresses?

  We are using postfix for email group lists (eg "[email protected]" will go to all members) from Amazon EC2 systems. For a variety of reasons (scalability and reliability) we would like to use SES for all outgoing emails. I was able to configure postfix to use SES as the SMTP for outgoing emails. This works fine for all verified emails. But of course, when an outsider emails me at "[email protected]", it chokes. Postfix is configured to forward to my gmail account (via the virtual table), the SES rejects it because the outside user is not verified. So none of our mailing groups configured through postfix will work this way. I would be happy to rewrite all "From" addresses before sending (and simply leave the Reply To as the original sender), but I cannot seem to find a working configuration. No matter what I set in canonical or generic regexps, SES seems to reject all forwarded emails. Surely somebody must have configured postfix with SES to handle virtual addresses? How does this work?

(Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007007E) at System.Reflection.Assembly._nLoad(AssemblyName fileName, String codeBase, Evidence assemblySecurity, Assembly locationHint, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean throwOnFileNotFound, Boolean forIntrospection) at System.Reflection.Assembly.nLoad(AssemblyName fileName, String codeBase, Evidence assemblySecurity, Assembly locationHint, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean throwOnFileNotFound, Boolean forIntrospection) at System.Reflection.Assembly.InternalLoad(AssemblyName assemblyRef, Evidence assemblySecurity, StackCrawlMark& stackMark, Boolean forIntrospection) at System.Reflection.Assembly.InternalLoadFrom(String assemblyFile, Evidence securityEvidence, Byte[] hashValue, AssemblyHashAlgorithm hashAlgorithm, Boolean forIntrospection, StackCrawlMark& stackMark) at System.Reflection.Assembly.LoadFrom(String assemblyFile) at Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.TestTypes.Unit.UnitTestExecuter.GetType(UnitTestElement unitTest, String type) at Microsoft.VisualStudio.TestTools.TestTypes.Unit.UnitTestExecuter.ResolveMethods(). but the same project runs successfully in my colleague PC. as per my Understanding System.IO.FileNotFoundException will occur in case of missing out the dlls. i checked up with dependency walker to trace out the missed dll.dependency walke traced out the following dlls 1)MFC90D.dll 2)mSvcr90d.dll 3)msvcp90d.dll i copied this dlls to C:\windows\system32 from Microsoft visual studio 9.0 dir and again i ran the dependency walker.this time dependency walker is able to open the given testproject dll with 0 errors .even then the same exception comes up when i ran the test. i got fed up with this. can any one tell why it is behaving as PC dependent.is there any thing that i still missing? any suggestion can be helpfull Thakns in Advance Sukumar i
