    I have a Poweredge R510 server with a PERC H700 Integrated RAID controller that is exhibiting slower than expected disk speeds (RAID 1 and RAID 10 arrays) and I'm looking at the configuration of the server. Running the command omreport chassis biossetup on the server shows me the following configuration setting: Embedded SATA Controller : ATA I can also see that the possible options for this setting are: off | ata | qdma | raid I've been looking online to find out what this setting means and what the various options refer to but I've been unable to find anything particularly helpful, so I was hoping that somebody here could help to enlighten me.   • What does this strange network/subnet mask mean?

    I'm configuring a new ASA 5505 for deployment as a VPN endpoint in a remote office. After configuring it and connecting the VPN, I get the following messages: WARNING: Pool (10.6.89.200) overlap with existing pool. ERROR: IP address,mask <10.10.0.0,93.137.70.9> doesn't pair 10.6.89.200 is the address I configured for the ASA. It has the subnet mask 255.255.255.0. The ip address 10.10.0.0 corresponds to one of our subnets, but it certainly wouldn't have a subnet mask of 93.137.70.9. That looks more like a public IP address (and resolves to an ADSL connection somewhere). I am sure if we had such a subnet configured, that it would indeed overlap with 10.6.89.200. There is no reference to 93.137.70.9 in the config of this ASA or our head office ASA. Can anyone shed light on what is going on here? The sudden appearance of a strange subnet mask is a bit alarming.

    Today I got an e-mail from logcheck informing me that the following system event occurred. http: getaddrinfo*.gaih_getanswer: got type "46" Indeed, the above message occurs 4 times in /var/log/aut.log it occured twice yesterday around 6:46 am. And this morning it also occured twice around the same time. I wonder what this message means and if this message is something to worry about or if should just tell logcheck to ignore it. If it is something to worry about, then any pointers on how to fix the problem are appreciated.

    I'm trying to install Cisco VPN client on Linux Ubuntu 10.04. The installer creates the directory, places all the necessary files in it, and then fails to launch the binary. I tried to launch it myself, the system rebukes me too.   • what does "crap" mean in samba logs

    Hi All, I have been googling and googling and can't find a conclusive answer. In log files for samba, I see things like the following: "[11560]: pam auth crap domain:" & "NTLM CRAP authentication for user" I'm hoping this stands for something like "Challenge Response Auth Protocol" or something, but when I show the logs to people that aren't technical, I usually get questions or looks.   • What does this WinImage Error Mean?

    Hi, I am using WinImage (version 8.0) on Windows XP SP3 to create a VHD File from my Hard Drive, however, everytime I try to, everytime it says: "I/O error in reading data on position 000000007cd40000:00010000. Error 23: Data Error (cyclic redundancy check)." with the options "Abort", "Retry", "Skip" & "Skip All". Everytime I try "Retry" the message comes, if I click skip another message comes up (same as above, except the data position). I have run "CHKDSK /F /R" several times, but the error always appears. What is wrong? Can I safely skip the Errors? Is there anything I can do to fix the error?

  • Does it mean video card is broken?

    Hello, I've just installed some sort of relatively old video card and now computer freezes while playing certain video games (Civilization 4, HOMM V). Some other video games with far better graphics works well (Dawn of War I). Note that "freezing" games runs nicely and smoothly for about 10-15 mins, no lag or any other indication that video card may be not good enough. And then PC suddenly freezes, nothing works but rebooting. The question is, is this a normal behavior of a video card which is simply "not good enough" for the games in question, or is there something broken? Card itself or motherboard or whatever? OS is Windows 7 if that matters, and I don't know exact videocard specs but that probably doesn't matter for this sort of question... thanks in advance!

  • Does this mean the router is faulty?

    I have a router to which I have my desktop (running Ubuntu) connected via LAN & I use it on my phone via wifi. Sometimes it happen that the LAN one will stop working for no reason but the wifi will work fine. And it will resolve away by itself. Since last night, the router was restarting again & again on its own, so I lodged a complaint about it and they said the router is faulty and will be replaced, but I know they don't know anything about how things work & is just going to shoot an arrow in the dark. These restarts has happened for the first time, LAN-wifi issue described earlier is a common one (but not frequent one). So is the router faulty or there is some issue from my ISP side which will continue to persist even after they change the router? My very best guess is that they will replace it with an older refurbished router which will tend to give me more troubles in the coming time, so its better if I change it only its faulty (this is a new one - 6months old, I am its first hand user). I am happy to provide any details.

I have done some research and googling and can't find what the significance of % is. Does anyone know? I have been able to find just about every other symbol meaning (., .., #, and more).   • What does "incoming" and "outgoing" traffic mean?

    I've seen many resources explaining how to set up a server's firewall to allow incoming and outgoing traffic on HTTP standard ports (80 and 443), but I can't figure out why I would need either of them. Do I need to unblock both for a "regular" web site to work? For file uploads to work? Are there situations where it would be advisable to unblock one and leave the other blocked? Sorry if that's a basic question, but I couldn't find it explained anywhere (also I'm not a native english speaker). I know in a "regular" web site the client is always the one who initiates a request, so I'm assuming a web server must accept incoming traffic on those ports, and my common sense tells me the server is allowed to send a response without unblocking anything else (otherwise it wouldn't make sense to have two types of rules). Is that correct? But what is an outgoing web (service) traffic, and what would be its use? AFAIK if the server wanted to initiate a connection with another machine, the specific port that matters is the one in the other end (i.e. the destination port would be 80), on its end any free port could be used (the source port would be random). I can open HTTP requests from my server (using wget for instance) without unblocking anything. So I'm assuming my concepts of "incoming" and "outgoing" are wrong somehow.

    When I wanted to start my laptop today (an Acer Aspire 8920G), the laptop started beeping. I know this beeping is a POST error code, but I can not figure out which one it is. The motherboard of the laptop is manufactured by Phoenix, so I looked up these POST codes: http://www.bioscentral.com/beepcodes/phoenixbeep.htm The beeping is in the form 1-1-1-1 (short beeps, repeating and even without ending), but this code is not mentioned by the manufacturer. Does anybody know what could be the problem? I don't know if it is relevant, but since a couple of months the CMOS battery was degrading. The laptop couldn't keep track of the time. Maybe a failing CMOS battery could be the problem?

  • What does "every two minutes" mean in cron?

    I've got two scripts in cron set to run every two minutes: */2 -- the thing is, they're out of step. One runs at 1,3,5,7,9 minutes, etc. and the other at 0,2,4,6,8. This is not a mission-critical problem, but means I've got two status reports, one a bit stale compared to the other. What does cron do exactly? Run the first one in crontab document order, waiting till it's finished to run the second one? Is there any way I can make the run at the same time, or as close as possible?

  • What does SQL Server's BACKUPIO wait type mean?

    I'm using Sql Server 2008 ("R1"), with some maintenance plans that back up my databases to a network share. Some of my backup jobs show long waits of type "BACKUPIO". Of course it seems like this is an I/O subsystem limitation, but I'm skeptical. Perfmon stats for I/O on the production (source) server are well within normal trends for that server. The destination server shows a sustained 7MB/s write rate, which seems incredibly low, even for a slow disk. The network link is gigabit ethernet and nowhere near saturated. The few docs I've turned up about BACKUPIO indicate that it's not specifically a wait on I/O, surprisingly enough. This MSFT doc says it's abnormal unless you're using a tape drive, which I'm not. But it doesn't say (or I don't understand) exactly what resource is missing. http://www.docstoc.com/docs/24580659/Performance-Tuning-in-SQL-Server-2005 And this piece says it's not related to I/O performance at all. http://www.informit.com/articles/article.aspx?p=686168&seqNum=5 "Note that BACKUPIO and IO_AUDIT_MUTEX are not related to IO performance."     I came across this term here: "11882875 -- Essbase Server does not start after an overinstallation." I know that a clean install is a software installation in which any previous version is removed. Googling 'overinstallation' turned up nothing, and I don't like to just assume it simply means 're-install'. UPDATE: So my understanding now is - the term "re-install" can be a bit ambiguous as it could either signify an installation after an uninstallation or otherwise. On the other hand the term "over-installation" specifically talks about installing something over an existing installation, that involved no uninstallations.

  • What does the red x icon mean next to a user in folder permissions (Windows 7)

    In trying to debug various strange issues on a machine, I found something strange - when I go to C:\Users\administrator and get properties, security tab, it lists the users (the local admin account, system, and 'administrator' which is the domain administrator account). It all looks fine in terms of permissions (full control, etc.) compared to other machines. The one difference is there is a small red circle with an X to the left of the user icon/name. Additionally, there are various folders where it says access denied under there - for example, my documents! Even logged in as the local machine administrator account (which is not named administrator), I am unable to change the permissions - it says access denied. Any ideas what this means and how to fix it? I even tried re-joining the machine to the domain.

In the table of the database i created 6 rows for questions, 1 for suggestion and 1 for date (a friend of mine tole me to use this but i didn't get why). q1) I'm going to atribute a value form 1 to 4 to the radio buttons options, and i'd like to sum every answer for each question, and then divide by the numbers of user that answered that question and give the mean. how am i supposed to to that? I'd also like generate reports of the month, of the year. q2) not only about the questionnaire but for registration too. I need all the fields to be completed, no blank options, if he don't complete all of fields it'll not be submitted and there will be a warning message to the user. q3) about the field type, i'd like it to be the same class that is in the database, i'm having a "problem". Ex: Name(varchar) : 1234(int), in the field 'name' of the table of the database 1234 will be shown as name, and i don't want this, i want only the type that i declared in the construction of the table. q4) i'd also like to know if it's possible to create pizza graphics, about the percentage of each question, is this possible? q5) I'm using phpmyadmin and some of my id's are auto_increment, but 'cause of my tests they at a high number, i'd like to restart to 0 the ids number, is this possible?     Here's the part I get: When you shelve in TFS, it makes a server copy of the changes so they are not lost, but does not check them into the source code trunk/branch you are working on. Question: Under what circumstances would you use the "unshelve" feature? Does it mean it will remove the shelveset from the TFS server? Can you do a get from a shelveset? Or is it really just a diff description between the shelveset and the "real" source code?
