• Problem to display a pdf from my JSF Portlet of Liferay

- by Stefano
I use liferay 5.2 with jsf-portlet. From the page I want to press a button to generate one PDF. In managedbean i build pdf and I want to show it in response. In a ByteArrayOutputStream named outputStream i have my pdf built with JasperReport. I write: PortletResponse portletResponse = (PortletResponse)externalCtx.getResponse(); HttpServletResponse httpResponse = PortalUtil.getHttpServletResponse(portletResponse); ServletOutputStream out = httpResponse.getOutputStream(); String filename="Pdf" + System.currentTimeMillis()+".pdf"; httpResponse.reset(); httpResponse.setContentType("application/pdf"); httpResponse.setHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename=\""+ filename + "\""); httpResponse.setContentLength(outputStream.size()); outputStream.writeTo(out); out.flush(); out.close(); I do not see anything output! In jboss log i read: IllegaStateException.... What is wrong? • what does a tool like Jasper Reports give me?

- by Itay Moav
Ok, So I have to generate very complex reports from my DB. If I am to do it with SQL the query themselves will be complex, and I will have to do some more manipulation on the results later, code level. How do libraries like Jasper Reports/ Crystal Reports and friends save me time when developing such reports? What will they give me?

• What is jasper report's algorithm for using a data source?

- by spderosso
Hi, I have created my custom data source by implementing the interface JRDataSource. This interface looks like this: public interface JRDataSource { /** * Tries to position the cursor on the next element in the data source. * @return true if there is a next record, false otherwise * @throws JRException if any error occurs while trying to move to the next element */ public boolean next() throws JRException; /** * Gets the field value for the current position. * @return an object containing the field value. The object type must be the field object type. */ public Object getFieldValue(JRField jrField) throws JRException; } My question is the following: In what way does jasper report call this functions for obtaining the fields in the .jrxml. E.g: if( next() )){ call getFieldValue for every field present in the page header while( next() ){ call getFieldValue for every field present in detail part } call getFieldValue for every field present the footer } The previous is just an example, experimentally in fact I found out that it is actually not like that. So my question arised. Thanks!

• How do I iterate over a collection that is in an object passed as parameter in a jasper report?

- by spderosso
Hi, I have an object A that has as an instance variable a collection of object Bs. Example: public class A{ String name; List myList; ... public List getMyList(){ return myList; } ... } I want this object to be the only source of information the jasper report gets, since all the information the report need is in A. I am currently doing something like: A myObjectA = new A(...); InputStream reportFile = MyPage.this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("test.jrxml"); HashMap<String, Object> parameters = new HashMap<String, Object>(); parameters.put("objectA", myObjectA); ... JasperReport report = JasperCompileManager.compileReport(reportFile); JasperPrint print = JasperFillManager.fillReport(report, parameters, new JRBeanCollectionDataSource(myObjectA.getMyList())); return JasperExportManager.exportReportToPdf(print); thereby passing "two" parameters, the objectA as a concrete parameter and the collection of object Bs that is in A as a bean data source. How do I iterate over the Bs in A by passing only A? Thanks!

• How can I pass an arbitrary object to jasper report as parameter?

- by spderosso
Hi, I would like to pass as a parameter to my .jrxml an arbitrary object of my domain, e.g a Person. InputStream reportFile = MyPage.this.getClass().getResourceAsStream("test.jrxml"); HashMap<String, Person> parameters = new HashMap<String, Person>(); parameters.put("person", new Person("John", "Doe")); ... JasperReport report = JasperCompileManager.compileReport(reportFile); JasperPrint print = JasperFillManager.fillReport(report, parameters, new JREmptyDataSource()); return JasperExportManager.exportReportToPdf(print); And on the .jrxml do something like: <jasperReport xmlns="http://jasperreports.sourceforge.net/jasperreports" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://jasperreports.sourceforge.net/jasperreports http://jasperreports.sourceforge.net/xsd/jasperreport.xsd" name="test" pageWidth="595" pageHeight="842" columnWidth="555" leftMargin="20" rightMargin="20" topMargin="20" bottomMargin="20"> <property name="ireport.zoom" value="1.0"/> <property name="ireport.x" value="0"/> <property name="ireport.y" value="0"/> <parameter name="PERSON" isForPrompting="false" class="myApp.domain.person"/> <background> <band splitType="Stretch"/> </background>
<band height="20"> <staticText> <reportElement x="180" y="0" width="200" height="20"/> <text>$P{PERSON.lastName}</text> </staticText> </band>
... Is something like this possible? Where can I find more complex tutorials that show more than just passing a java.lang.String? Thanks

• Jasper Reports: How can i have multiple growing subreports in a report?

- by Sandeep Jindal
Hi, My Requirement is to show two sub reports in a Report. What I am doing is, I have created two sub-reports and put that into a report. But the issue is that, both the sub reports are growing (i.e. their height is not static as the number of records are variable). I just want the second sub=report to appear after the end of first sub-report. How can I achieve the same? Regards, Sandeep Jindal

• How do I change the locale that Jasper uses?

- by Frank Fiuza
The windows installed on my machine has the locale en_AU and that's what Japer uses. I already tried changing the locale of all users, including the Administrator but it still uses en_AU. How can I change that locale? Is it possible to change the REPORT_LOCALE parameter on my report?

• Michael Hartl's rails tutorial: reusing sessions resource for multiple User types

- by ntaj
I'm learning Ruby on Rails through Micheal Hartl's tutorial. In my web application, I require two types of Users, called publishers and subscribers. Currently I have a publishers resource and a subscribers resource. I'd like both of them to be able to use the sessions resource for signin/signout. I'm looking for some direction on how to implement this. Should my publisher and subscriber resource inherit from the User resource, so that, for example, the following code works through polymorphism? def create user = User.find_by_email(params[:session][:email]) if user && user.authenticate(params[:session][:password]) # Sign the user in and redirect to the user's show page. else # Create an error message and re-render the signin form. end end The publisher and subscriber do not have many common fields and different capabilities, so I think they should be modeled as two separate resources, but how to have them share the Sessions resource?

• What is possible causes of Jasper Exception

- by CitadelCSCadet
I have a JSP that takes an Arraylist from the session object and removes the items from it. It seemed to be working fine and then out of nowhere when I navigate to that page, the page is blank. I checked the tomcat log files and in catalina.out I am receiving a Jasper Exception an it is showing it as being on a line with the following for(int i; i < agentItems.size(); i++) agentItems is the name of the ArrayList I am using. I have been debugging it and cant seem to figure out what the problem might be. I have read that a JasperException is sometiems thrown as a JSP's NullPointerException. Is this true or am I just completely overlooking the problem? I have the web application running on a local machine and a intermediate server for development in which both of them have had no trouble. Why could it be that only on this server it is giving me problems?

I have a code that build a PDF document with JasperReport... //seta o caminho dos arquivos jasper String pathLote = ScopeSupport.getServletContext().getRealPath("priv/sgc/relatorios/AtaPregaoLotePageReport.jasper"); String pathCabecalho = ScopeSupport.getServletContext().getRealPath("priv/sgc/relatorios/CabecalhoPageReport.jasper"); String pathRodape = ScopeSupport.getServletContext().getRealPath("priv/sgc/relatorios/rodapePageReport.jasper"); String imagemDir = ScopeSupport.getServletContext().getRealPath("/priv/comum/img"); //HashMap parametros passa o parametro usado na query e o caminho da imagem HashMap<String,Object> parametros = new HashMap<String,Object>(); parametros.put("idPregao", idPregao); parametros.put("idLote", idLote); parametros.put("IMAGEM_DIR", imagemDir + "/"); parametros.put("USUARIO", "NomeUsuario" ); parametros.put("texto", texto); parametros.put("numeroAta", numAta); if(numAta != null && numAta > 0) parametros.put("relatorio", "Ata "+numAta); HashMap<String,Object> parametrosSub = new HashMap<String,Object>(); parametrosSub.put("CabecalhoPageReport", pathCabecalho); parametrosSub.put("rodapePageReport", pathRodape); parametrosSub.put("AtaPregaoPorLotePageReport", pathLote); for(String element : parametrosSub.keySet()){ parametros.put(element, (JasperReport) JRLoader.loadObject((String) (parametrosSub.get(element)))); } JasperReport report = (JasperReport) JRLoader.loadObject( pathLote ); JasperPrint printRel = JasperFillManager.fillReport( report, parametros, getJDBCConnection() ); byte[] bytes = JasperExportManager.exportReportToPdf(printRel); httpResponse.setHeader("Content-Disposition","attachment; filename=\""+ report.getName() + ".pdf" +"\";"); httpResponse.setContentLength(bytes.length); httpResponse.setContentType("application/pdf"); ServletOutputStream ouputStream = httpResponse.getOutputStream(); ouputStream.write(bytes, 0, bytes.length); ouputStream.flush(); ouputStream.close(); Who can help me with this?

• Lightweight Java reporting engine

- by tuler
I'm looking for a lightweight java reporting engine to be embedded in an applet application. My first option was Jasper Reports, but the jar is over 2Mb, a little too heavy (and too bloated) for my needs. I don't know if there is modular jasper distribution, with funcionalities split in several jars (like html rendering, pdf, excel, compilation, runtime, etc). I need to preview the report using Swing and print it. PDF export is a plus.

• JasperReports reports access image via authenticated URL

- by user363115
Hi all, I am hoping that this is a simple issue with a simple solution and that I have missed something obvious. Let me explain the problem; We have an application that generates PDF reports (using Jasper). These reports contain data from our database, as well as imagery (photographs). These photographs are stored in S3. We use signed URLs to access these photographs. We link these photographs into our Jasper reports using these S3 URLs. Because the S3 URLs are signed and time-limited (by design), the process is as follows; User requests a report to be generated, Report is filled, and goes to our database (at which time UUIDs to any required images are retrieved), For each UUID an S3 signed URL must be generated, To do this the URL behind each report image is a call to an authenticated URL in our app (/get_img?uuid=foo), The controller behind this URL generates a signed S3 URL and returns it, Reports loads the image. The problem is with step (4) - the call to the authenticated URL fails because Jasper does not pass any authentication information with the request. Is there a solution here? Thanks all for your time. Ben

• Why does Mac OS X ignore my Windows NTFS and Share permissions?

- by Michael
Mac OS X Snow Leopard Windows Server 2003 Windows Folder "Videos" Share Permissions on Videos - Everyone NTFS Permissions on Videos - System (Full Control) - Domain Users (Modify) - Domain Admins (Full Control) Mac user Michael is a part of the Domain Users group. He connects to Videos using cifs://server/Videos and authenticates with his username Michael. Michael copies over a file "dance dance baby.avi". User Jon opens the Videos folder but cannot see the dance dance baby.avi file. Checking the dance dance baby.avi file permissions here is what I see: Everyone - Read, Write Domain Admins - Full Control Michael - Read, Write Owner of File - Michael So here's my question, how come when Michael copies a file over from a Mac, the permissions on the file get changed even though Michael has no rights to change permissions? If the same file is copied over from a Windows machine, it just inherits the proper permissions from the parent Video folder. Am I missing something? Are my permissions wrong? Thanks. Michael

• create jrxml file at run time and modify at run time

- by Srinivas
Hi I have a requirement to develop custom reports where we already have some reoprts developed using JasperReports using iReport tool. Now the requirement is to modify those reports design at run time. I should use those existing jrxml files and save as to new report then change the design at run time. Also I should see those newly created reports whenever I want. I have gone through the Jasper API and Dynamic Reports where we can create the reports dynamically at run time but we can't save the design (like JRXML). I am looking for any other JRXML design API to create and modify and save the Jasper Reports at run time. I appreciate if any one can help me. Thanks in Advance Srinivas
