  • Full Screen Flash is choppy (nVidia GeForce 8200M)

    I have a new compaq presario laptop (I asked SU for advice before I bought it :-) ). It has a nVidia GeForce 8200M video card. When I try to play a flash video full screen, it plays really choppy. This is a brand new computer and is well more powerful than my previous computer so I know it's not a matter of the full screen being too processor intensive to play, or a bandwidth problem. Even playing HD hulu videos full screen was fine on my previous laptop. Any advice on how to get better performance here? edit: World Of Warcraft is able to play at a great framerate, so this machine should definitely be able to handle a simple little flash video ;-)

  • cron.daily not running at the time it should?

    My /etc/cron.daily scripts seem to be executing far later from what I understand they should. I am in Ubuntu and anacron is installed.   • Why do browsers have so many possible exploits?

    When browsing I am ocassionally given warnings about pages that host malware "that could damage my computer". I am seriously perplexed as to why, in 2010, browsers still have possible exploits and can be cracked. My question is "Why?". I'm assuming it's because of the quick development that occured in the browser wars which were unsufficiently tested, but I'm unsure. Surely WebKit would have patched all the issues in KHTML, or Gecko sorted out the flaws in Netscape's engine, and the IE coders sorted through their codebase to eliminate possible flaws?   • send apache request identifier to backend when using mod_rewrite

    I'm using mod_rewrite to send requests from the client to a backend server. I've seen in the rewrite log that Apache sets a sid (Session Identifier?) and rid (request identifier?) and shows them in the logs. Would it be possible to send the rid to the backend server as a http header? that way I can link a request in the apache with a request in the backend server.   • What do you use to loadbalance IPv6 services?

    Hi, the current Linux software environment for IPv6 load balancing looks a bit grim. IPVS has rudimentary support for IPv6 but it's far from complete. NAT for IPv6 seems to be a no-go. Are there any other projects which aim for this goal? Does the IPv6 support in other OS look better? Are there any commercial products which have been successfully used in production environments with non-trivial load patterns? Or is it just that the time for IPv6 hasn't come... yet? ;) best regards, Michael

  • unreadable corrupted ntfs partition - lost clusters reported

    Hi, partition magic is reporting multiple 'bad file record signature' and 'lost clusters' errors on my 250GB samsung sata disk (connected via usb on a xp sp3). Unfortunately PM is unable to fix. PM shows the drive as being NTFS, detects used space ok and also drive name. But PM browser (right click on partition, browse...) won't show anything (as if disk was empty) Windows Explorer is not even picking the drive name and reports 'the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable' PTDD partition table doctor demo tells me the boot sector is fine, and I can see all disk content on its browser - but crucially cannot copy that content over to a new disk (PTDD browser is pretty arid to say the least) Also tried - photorec-6.11.3 - it actually started to extract files but wouldn't keep file names or any folder structure (maybe I missed sth on the configuration options) - find and mount - intellectual scan went well, the only partition on the disk was detected, then tried to mount into p: but got this error on windows explorer: 'p:\ is not accesible. The media is write protected'. Find and mount allows you to create an image from partition but I don't have a disk big enough at hand. Does anyone know if this will keep the extracted files/folders structure intact? I'm starting to think the disk is pretty screwed and my chances to recover this data are slim. Please someone enlighten me with that marvellous piece of software I am missing :-) Thanks in advance

  • Windows 7 Locking up Randomly

    I've got a Windows 7 machine that is locking up randomly. It can be in the first thirty seconds, or it can be hours later. There is nothing specific I can find that is running when it happens. When it locks, the screen doesn't change, but nothing moves. The waiting icon stops, the mouse stops, keyboard doesn't work, etc. I've even tried the crash on ctrl-scrl registry hack, and it won't even dump the kernel. I've run hardware diagnostics on the RAM and it doesn't find any problems. I would think it is a hardware issue, but on this exact same machine, I can run 64 Bit Ubuntu and it has zero problems. I've even tried reinstalling Windows7 from scratch, and it still happens. Anyone have any ideas? Any good diagnostic tools to recommend? Thanks! Michael

  • Node js server not responding outside localhost centos

    I'm running a basic express server from CentOS but for some reason it is not responding outside of localhost, I have tried everything I have found on google but nothing works so far. This is my express server: app.listen(3000,"0.0.0.0"); If I do curl http://localhost:3000/ in the server it works fine. If I curl to the ip of the server it doesn't work. I already changed my iptables num target prot opt source destination 1 ACCEPT tcp -- 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 tcp dpt:80 2 ACCEPT tcp -- 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 tcp dpt:80 3 ACCEPT tcp -- 0.0.0.0/0 0.0.0.0/0 tcp dpt:3000 There is currently a apache server running on port 80 with no problems. I also tried setting a VirtualHost on apache but it didn't work either: <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName SubDOmain.MyDomain.com ProxyRequests off <Proxy *> Order allow,deny Allow from all </Proxy> ProxyPass / http://localhost:3000/ ProxyPassReverse / http://localhost:3000/ ProxyPreserveHost on </VirtualHost> There is another virtual host working fine that redirects to another DocumentRoot. I'm running Node on root for testing purpose, but the node application owner is another user. All folders have 705 and files 664 Edit: I stopped apache and run my node app on port 80 and it working fine, I could access node app from my ip and domain.

    I have been waiting the DNS propagation for almost 24 hours. I'am no impatient, but I want to know if I configured my zone good or I have any error in it. I think that is good, because if I use my server dns like my DNS secondary I can resolve and lookup host well. ; ; BIND data file for mydomain.net ; $TTL 86400 @ IN SOA mydomain.net. mydomain.net. Is everything correct? Do I only need to wait up to 48 hours for the right DNS propagation?     Hi all, I wanna simpy exchange 3 directories to a collegue's home directory (I dont have write access to that one) from my home directory, probably using secure copy if possible. I am not good with Linux command line, so I am not sure how to do that and I would very much appreciate it if somebody could help me a bit out with this. I guess it should look something like that scp -r /home/user1/directoy1 /home/user2/directoy1 scp -r /home/user1/directoy2 /home/user2/directoy2 scp -r /home/user1/directoy3 /home/user2/directoy3 Do I need to specify the login name of my collegue so that the files can be copied when he enters his password?   • USB Flash drive corrupt files - Help needed

    I have a 16gb usb flash drive with 8gb worth of data that I can't afford to lose. When I inserted it into my pc, inside the folder that I was storing the data I saw unintelligible characters and nothing in there would open. I ran, windows scandisk and the files (unfortunately) disappeared. I can see that the drive's space still appears to be taken up with data, about 8gb. What should I do to recover it? Is it possible?   • Apache can't get viewed from outside of my LAN

    I fixed it in PORTS TRIGGER menu of my router. Thanks you anyway I have a weird problem related with (i think) my cable-router and my configured vhosts in Apache2. The point is I can't access from outside of my LAN to any of my configured vhosts if I set the http port of Apache to 80 and i add a NAT rule for it. Otherwise, if I set my Apache port to 81 (or any else) with its respective NAT rule on my router it works.   • Migrating JBoss installation and install it on a PHP server

    I'm configuring a new dedicated server that is going to run 3 sites, 2 of then are migrating from a old server. Each site have it's own domain and dedicated ip. 2 of this sites are already up and running on php (one of then use cakePHP), the third site is a migration from an old server and it runs on JBoss. 1) Is it possible to have both Jboss and php running on the same Apache instance, or would I have to install a new one? 2) Can I just move the old JBoss server directory to the new server and start the server with the shell script? From what I red here JBoss is distributed as a zip/tgz file with the server structure, so moving it from the old server to the new one should be the same. I want to do this because the old server is already configured, and it have 2 JBoss instances. I didn't develop this site and I don't have experience with JBoss. I have some documentation of the site, but it is not much, mostly server structure and the technology they used. The new server runs on CentOS with CPanel, I have full root access to the server.   • Kill xserver from command line (init 3/5 does not work)

    I'm running Linux Mint 10, although I've had this same issue with other variants of Linux. I've been told/found while researching that if the X server hangs or otherwise errors, one can drop to a root prompt, usually at another tty, and execute init 3 (to drop to single user mode) and then init 5 to return to the default, graphical session. Needless to say, I've tried this before in multiple configurations on multiple machines to no avail. The only feedback I receive form executing those two commands is a listing of VMWare services (from a kernel module) that are stopped and then restarted. Note: If I run startx (either before or after init 3), then I am told that the xserver is still running and that I should remove /tmp/.X0-lock. Having tried that, it removes that error message, but claims that the xserver cannot be attached as another instance is running. How do I kill the xserver completely? Can I killall some process name?

  • Virtual hosting in Varnish with individual vcl files for configuration

    I wish to use varnish to put in front of an apache and a tomcat on the same server. Depending on the ip requested, it goes to a different backend. This works. Now for most of the sites the default varnish logic will work just fine. However for some specific sites I wish to use custom VCL code. I can test for host name and include config files for the specific domains, but this only works inside the individual methods recv etc. Is there a way to include a complete set of instructions, in one file, per domain, without having to manage separate files for subdomain_recv, subdomain_fetch etc? And preferably without running seperate instances of varnish. When I try to include a file on the "root level" of default.vcl, I get a compilation error. Best regards, Michael

  • Windows XP Home Adobe.Com folder trying to install twice

    Twice I had to reinstall because Adobe 9 installed for a second time without me requesting or being asked to. There is a Adobe folder and an Adobe(2) folder. Installed were Adobe.com; AIS; Reader 9 and Active X. The system crashes. I can't do anything. In safe mode, can't uninstall or system restore. Can't click on anything in regular environment. Not only will I start looking for alternative pdf reader, and if I can't view a site without active X so be it. But if I do decide to re-install Adobe, HOW DO I CONFIGURE IT TO NOT UPDATE AUTOMATICALLY???? Day and a half to re-install everything.

    I'm attempting to access logs from a proprietary hardware box with no reasonable hope of modifying the software. There is a process on the device to dump log files to a flash drive on the USB port after entering a code sequence. Currently, analysis of the logs requires the following: Physical presence at the device Manual entry of the code sequence Removal of USB device Insertion of USB device into a normal Linux box I'm hoping there is some sort of device that can act as a USB mass storage device but simultaneously make it's contents available as a network file share (wired preferred). Does such a device currently exist? A combo hardware/software solution would also work.

    I'm trying to find a set of instructions for upgrading Vmware (ESXi and Vsphere) from 5.1 to 5.5, but all I'm finding online is a bunch of separate, incomplete knowledgebase articles which is making it difficult to get an overview of what's involved. What I'd like is a single, concise document that lists the steps involved. It could be a free online article, someone's blog, a small booklet, someone here who takes the trouble to write it out. Does such a thing exist? If so, can you provide the reference or even provide the text here. I'm running a very small, simple environment consisting of two ESXi hosts and Vsphere Standard edition.     Gday All, I am developing a site that uses PayPal to take online payments. I need to be able to send my client an email with the link to PayPal in order to pay. In this link I need a way to set a unique value (for example bookingId) that I can use to add the receipt number to the correct booking via PayPal's payment notification feature.     Hello! I started developing with Titanium and now I really stuck on one part. I downloaded the Adroid SDK and added the path to Titanium: /Users/michael/Downloads/android-sdk-mac_86/ I can open e.g. Kitchen Sink in the iPhone Simulator without problems, but when I want to open it in Android then my screen looks like this: Screenshot Why is down there all the time, even after 2 hours of waiting, the label "loading..." ?

  • jQuery jFlow plugin. How can I have more than one on a single page?

    Hi, I'm using a very lovely and simple plugin called jFlow that gives me a basic content slider etc. However, I can see no documentation or help on how to get two (or more) on one page at the same time working seperately from one another. At the moment, if I set two up, they almost combine as one, despite having a different configuration from one another. Any help would be great, thanks. Michael.
