• Could the cause of recent Toyota computing problems be an interface mismatch ?

  Any ideas if the recent Toyota computing errors had something to do with the fact they where using an object orintated approach then took a data orientated approach thus causing user interface errors ? Studying programming languages with in interface robotic design and wondered if the car computing glitch Toyota has been having could have something to do with using a different programming approach with out reprogramming the whole system from scratch.

• How to get out of dependency hell

  I am doing this from memory from work. Basically, I have libjpeg-turbo8 installed. But I have libjpeg-turbo8:i386 installed at version xxx4.4 and libjpeg-turbo8:amd64 installed at version xxx4.3. I am not sure how this mismatch happened. I believe that 4.3 is the right version, so I would like to roll the 32 bit version back. apt-get install libjpeg-turbo8:i386xxxxxx4.3 did not work (as it was still complaining that it couldnt do anything because of the mismatch). Basically, I cant do anything with apt-get because this mismatch is causing dependency hell. What is the proper way to resolve this. The box is 64 bit 12.04.

I can't find anything online about this. I found a single entry for the error message in Google, and it was a swedish (or some other nordic language site) that didn't have an answer to the question. I've tried connecting through both USB and Bluetooth tethering to the iPhone, and they both return the exact same results. I don't have direct control over the firewall, but if changes are necessary to make it work, I may be able to get the powers-that-be to make adjustments. A solution that doesn't require reconfiguring the firewall would be far better of course... Does anyone know what I can do to make this behave? Thanks, Dan

• Ubuntu 13.10 installed and worked, but now not working

  I have a HP G7000 laptop. I updated/upgraded from 13.04 to 13.10, after the software updater recommended I upgrade. I have duel booting system with Windows Vista. The system was working for the past two days, but I start getting the errors below, after selecting Ubuntu in Grub Menu on startup and at the splash screen it says "Press S to Skip or M for manual configuration" Pressing S gives a black screen and m takes you the errors below. Why is it that the installation on the hard disk has stopped working and does not recognize my / ? What do the above errors mean and how can i solve them? There was no power failure before, during or after the update/upgrade process from 13.04 to 13.10. I now would like to go back to 13.04 without reinstalling afresh? Any help will be appreciated. • Set Up Of Common Name Of SSL Certificate To Protect Plesk Panel

  A PCI Compliance scanner is balking that the self signed SSL certificate protecting secure access to Plesk Panel contains a name mismatch between the location of the Plesk Panel and the name on the certificate, namely the self-signed cert's name is "Parallels" and the domain to reach Plesk is 'ip address:8443'. So I figured I would go ahead and get a free SSL certificate to try to fiddle with this error. But when I generated the certificate I used my server domain name as the site name when I generated the certificate. So if I visit 'domain name:8443' all is fine, no ssl warning. But if I visit 'ip address:8443' (which I believe is what the scanner does) I get the certificate name mismatch error, Digicert's ssl checker says that the certificate name should be the ip address. Can I even generate a certificate whose common name is the ip address? I am tempted to say I should just do what the PCI scanner accepts, but what is really the correct common name to use? Anybody run into this issue before?

• What can be done to improve time synchronization on networks with sporadic internet access?

  I'm looking for advice setting up time servers for a very non-typical network. I support many closed networks that have occasional access to the internet. A network would get access most days for a few hours, but would frequently go 1-3 weeks blacked-out. The computers/servers on this network are mostly *nix-based, but not all the same flavor. The entire network is mobile, so when it connects, it will have very different hops/latency to internet time servers. The servers on the closed network are powered-off frequently (at least daily). Right now, my gut tells me to use NTP (because I hate re-learning all the stuff that someone else already got working pretty well). But I have several issues, and am looking for someone with experience in this type of strange situation. I currently have no solution in place, I'm simply letting the internal clocks drift. This results in errors of ~600s in a majority of networks. I have seen mismatch worse than 10,000s. Is there something "better" than NTP in this situation? I know NTP likes to have very frequent, consistent access to servers that give nearly identical answers. I won't have that. How many internal NTP servers should I configure, so that during periods of internet blackout, I have internal time that is consistent within the closed network? There is no human access. No matter how large the mismatch, the server(s) must attempt to correct itself. Discrete steps are very bad. No matter how large the mismatch, the correction must be "slewed", not "stepped". I understand that this could take many hours to correct.

• How to get ANTLR 3.2 to exit upon first error?

  In section 10.4, The Definitive ANTLR reference tells you to override mismatch() & recoverFromMismatchedSet() if you want to exit upon the first parsing error. But, at least in ANTLR 3.2, it appears that there is no mismatch() method, and the recoverFromMismatchedSet() documentation says that it is "Not Currently Used". So it appears things have changed since the book was published. What am I supposed to do instead to exit upon the first parsing error in ANTLR 3.2?

• sample java code for approximate string matching or boyer-moore extended for approximate string matc

  Hi I need to find 1.mismatch(incorrectly played notes), 2.insertion(additional played), & 3.deletion (missed notes), in a music piece (e.g. note pitches [string values] stored in a table) against a reference music piece. This is either possible through exact string matching algorithms or dynamic programming/ approximate string matching algos. However I realised that approximate string matching is more appropriate for my problem due to identifying mismatch, insertion, deletion of notes. Or an extended version of Boyer-moore to support approx. string matching. Is there any link for sample java code I can try out approximate string matching? I find complex explanations and equations - but I hope I could do well with some sample code and simple explanations. Or can I find any sample java code on boyer-moore extended for approx. string matching? I understand the boyer-moore concept, but having troubles with adjusting it to support approx. string matching (i.e. to support mismatch, insertion, deletion). Also what is the most efficient approx. string matching algorithm (like boyer-moore in exact string matching algo)? Greatly appreciate any insight/ suggestions. Many thanks in advance

• setup Zyxel USG 20W as L2TP VPN Server

  I've a Zywall USG 20W (wireless disabled) behind a router supplied by the ISP. All ports (both TCP and UDP) on the ISP router are forwarded to the 20W. I'm trying to configure an L2TP VPN to be used by Windows Xp / 7 with Microsoft native client. This was working before with a different firewall, so I'm pretty sure that all the required packets are flowing to the 20W. I followed a tutorial from the italian Zyxel Website, but I cannot get the VPN to work. Always cannot pass phase 2, and I see the following on the log: [ID]: Tunnel [Default_L2TP_VPN_Connection] Phase 2 local policy mismatch Phase 1 goes fine. In Windows the error is always 788. This happens regardless the proposals I set in the phase 1 and 2 setting. What should I check ? Is there any way to get more detailed diagnostic info (policy mismatch is too generic) ?   After running chkdsk C: /F /R and finding out that my hard disk has 24 KB in bad sectors (log is posted below), I decided to run Windows 7's System File Checker utility (sfc /scannow). SFC showed the ff. message after I ran it: "Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log." Since the CBS.log file is too large, I ran findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt" (as per Microsoft's KB 928228 article) to only get the log text pertaining to the corrupt files. • Test ethernet port for data loss

  We are trying to test the ethernet phy on our linux box for data loss. As of now we just establish a tftp connection to a server to upload and download a file. Whenever a mismatch occurs, it is reported as failure. This is not a very nice test, as any mismatch might have been caused by the network itself and not a phy problem. Can you suggest a way to test the ethernet phy in a better way for data loss? Thanks...

  I have Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit and I installed JDK 1.7.0 update 2 x64 via webupd8 page. But currently I have problem with minecraft game. I'm a VBA rookie and tried just replacing the Set Messages line with this which resulted in a Run-time error '13': Type mismatch which I think refers to a mismatch of the Dim Messages and the Set Messages commands. I've tried using different Dim definitions with no luck. I'm guessing that someone who knows VBA will see the way to do this right away. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

• Can I force MySql table name case sensitivity on file systems that aren't case sensitive

  So our target environment is linux, making mysql case-sensitive by default. I am aware that we can make our linux environment not case sensitive with the lower_case_table_names variable, but we would rather not. We have a few times been bitten with a case mismatch because our dev rigs are OSX, and mysql is not case sensitive there. Is there a way we can force table names to be case sensitive on my OSX install of MySql (5.0.83 if that matters) so that we catch a table name case mismatch prior to deploying to the integration servers running on linux?

• A follow up on type coercion in C++, as it may be construed by type conversion

  This is a follow up to my previous question. Consider that I write a function with the following prototype: int a_function(Foo val); Where foo is believed to be a type defined unsigned int. This is unfortunately not verifiable for lack of documentation. So, someone comes along and uses a_function, but calls it with an unsigned int as an argument. Here the story takes a turn. Foo turns out to actually be a class, which can take an unsigned int as a single argument of unsigned int in an explicit constructor. Is it a standard and reliable behavior for the compiler to render the function call by doing a type conversion on the argument. I.e. is the compiler supposed to recognize the mismatch and insert the constructor? Or should I get a compile time error reporting the type mismatch.

  hi everyone this is a cakePHP question about datetime database insertion mismatch, i jumped in to this project while the whole thing is already built around 70%. here's what happen, every time i insert a data that contain a datetime, the inserted time doesn't match the inputted date, and the mismatch has no pattern or what ever, in some table the differences is 5 hours, while in others it could be 12 hours, 7 hours, or even 15 hours. i have traced this by investigating the controller, the model, the app_controller, everything but i don't find anything that indicate a datetime insertion rules. if the view : echo $form->input('start_date', array('label' => __l('start date')); i can't even find in the controller anything like: $this->data['current_controller']['start_date'] = $this->data['current_controller']['start_date']; when i use pr($this-data); to print the posted data, this is shown: [start_date] => Array ( [month] => 02 [day] => 16 [year] => 2011 [hour] => [min] => [meridian] => ) so i figured doing something like: $yearMonDay = $this->data['current_controller']['start_date']['year']."-"; $yearMonDay .= $this->data['current_controller']['start_date']['month']."-"; $yearMonDay .= $this->data['current_controller']['start_date']['day']; if(!empty($this->data['current_controller']['start_date']['hour'])){ $hourMinSec = $this->data['current_controller']['start_date']['hour'].":"; $hourMinSec .= $this->data['current_controller']['start_date']['min'].":"; $hourMinSec .= $this->data['current_controller']['start_date']['meridian']; }else{ $hourMinSec = "00:00:00"; } $this->data['Deal']['start_date'] = $yearMonDay."   This blog describes a tool I developed which allows you to compare the data types and data sizes found in the cube’s data source view with the data types/sizes of the corresponding dimensional attribute.  Why is this important?  Well when creating named queries in a cube’s data source view, it is often necessary to use the SQL CAST or CONVERT operation to change the data type to something more appropriate for SSAS.  This is particularly important when your cube is based on an Oracle data source or using custom SQL queries rather than views in the relational database.   The problem with BIDS is that if you change the underlying SQL query, then the size of the data type in the dimension does not update automatically.  This then causes problems during deployment whereby processing the dimension fails because the data in the relational database is wider than that allowed by the dimensional attribute. In particular, if you use some string manipulation functions provided by SQL Server or Oracle in your queries, you may find that the 10 character string you expect suddenly turns into an 8,000 character monster.  For example, the SQL Server function REPLACE returns column with a width of 8,000 characters.  So if you use this function in the named query in your DSV, you will get a column width of 8,000 characters.  Although the Oracle REPLACE function is far more intelligent, the generated column size could still be way bigger than the maximum length of the data actually in the field. Now this may not be a problem when prototyping, but in your production cubes you really should clean up this kind of thing as these massive strings will add to processing times and storage space. Similarly, you do not want to forget to change the size of the dimension attribute if your database columns increase in size. Introducing CheckCubeDataTypes Utiltity The CheckCubeDataTypes application extracts all the data types and data sizes for all attributes in the cube and compares them to the data types and data sizes in the cube’s data source view.  It then generates an Excel CSV file which contains all this metadata along with a flag indicating if there is a mismatch between the DSV and the dimensional attribute.  Note that the app not only checks all the attribute keys but also the name and value columns for each attribute. Another benefit of having the metadata held in a CSV text file format is that you can place the file under source code control.  This allows you to compare the metadata of the previous cube release with your new release to highlight problems introduced by new development.
