  • Squid/Kerberos authentication with only Linux

    - by user28362
Hi, I would like to know if it possible to let a Windows Xp machine authenticate to Squid (Linux) using Kerberos without the need of an Active Directory domain. I only want to create a Kerberos ticket on the client side, which should give the client access to squid (using I.E.). I only found tutorials about configuring A.D./Squid, not an environment with only Linux servers. Thanks Update: The kerberos setup is correctly done, the proxy and client can get tickets. As for the browser (FF/IE), I get: ERROR Cache Access Denied While trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.google.com/ The following error was encountered: * Cache Access Denied. Sorry, you are not currently allowed to request: http://www.google.com/ from this cache until you have authenticated yourself. In kerberos, I get: squid_kerb_auth: Got 'YR ElRNTVMTUABBAABAB4IIogAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAFASgDAAAADw==' from squid (length: 59). squid_kerb_auth: parseNegTokenInit failed with rc=101 squid_kerb_auth: received type 1 NTLM token This message is strange, as I didn't configure NTLM. It looks like the browser uses the wrong authentication methode.

  • Server 2008/Windows 7/Samba Unspecified error 80004005

    - by ancillary
I have a Samba share on a LAN with 2008 PDC/DNS. Smb authenticates with AD and I have several Win7 Machines that can connect fine. I recently added a couple of new computers to the LAN which were imaged the same way (same software, etc.; different hardware so different drivers) as the other machines and they have the same policies set. I can not get the new machines to connect to the samba share no matter what. I am always met with either Unspecified Error 0x80004005 or Network Path not found. I've turned off the firewall; set LANMAN auth to respond to NTLM only/send LM & NTLM responses/use NTLM session security if negotiated in Local Sec Policy SEcurity Options; tried both ip and hostname to connect. SMB log shows that authentication succeeds; but then connection is immediately killed by the client. tcpdump shows nothing remarkable except that when trying to connect from the client via hostname there is an unknown packet type error: ack 201 win 255 NBT Session Packet: Unknown packet type 0xABData: (41 bytes) Here's a couple of lines from that error: 11:18:37.964991 IP 001-client.domain.local.49372 > smb.domain.local.netbios-ssn: P 1670:2146(476) ack 201 win 255 NBT Session Packet: Unknown packet type 0xABData: (41 bytes) [000] AA 46 96 FA D5 99 33 75 0C C4 20 CE 26 42 F3 61 \252F\226\372\325\2313u \014\304 \316&B\363a [010] F0 8C FB 65 18 17 40 A5 DB 42 BB 94 37 53 92 EC \360\214\373e\030\027@\245 \333B\273\2247S\222\354 [020] 55 98 7F C4 AE 3D 6B 10 C4 U\230\177\304\256=k\020 \304 11:18:37.964998 IP smb.domain.local.netbios-ssn > 001-client.domain.local.49372: . ack 2146 win 100 Here's smb.conf just in case (though don't see how if other machines are working fine): [global] workgroup = MYDOMAIN realm = MYDOMAIN.LOCAL server string = domain|smb share interfaces = eth1 security = ADS password server = 192.168.1.3 log level = 2 log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log smb ports = 139 strict locking = no load printers = No local master = No domain master = No wins server = 192.168.1.3 wins support = Yes idmap uid = 500-10000000 idmap gid = 500-10000000 winbind separator = + winbind enum users = Yes winbind enum groups = Yes winbind use default domain = Yes [samba-share1] comment = SMB Share path = /home/share/smb/ valid users = @"MYDOMAIN+Domain Users" admin users = @"MYDOMAIN+Domain Admins" guest ok = no read only = No create mask = 0765 force directory mode = 0777 Any ideas what else I could try or look for? Or what might be the problem? Thanks.

  • SQL Server service accounts and SPNs

    - by simonsabin
Service Principal Names (SPNs) are a must for kerberos authentication which is a must when using sharepoint, reporting services and sql server where you access one server that then needs to access another resource, this is called the double hop. The reason this is a complex problem is that the second hop has to be done with impersonation/delegation. For this to work there needs to be a way for the security system to make sure that the service in the middle is allowed to impersonate you, after all you are not giving the service your password. To do this you need to be using kerberos. The following is my simple interpretation of how kerberos works. I find the Kerberos documentation rediculously complex so the following might be sligthly wrong but I think its close enough. Keberos works on a ticketing system, the prinicipal is that you get a security token from AD and then you can pass that to the service in the middle which can then use that token to impersonate you. For that to work AD has to be able to identify who is allowed to use the token, in this case the service account. But how do you as a client know what service account the service in the middle is configured with. The answer is SPNs. The SPN is the mapping between your logical connection to the service account. One type of SPN is for the DNS name for the server and the port. i.e. MySQL.mydomain.com and 1433. You can see how this maps to SQL Server on that server, but how does it map to the account. Well it can be done in two ways, either you can have a mapping defined in AD or AD can use a default mapping (this is something I didn't know about). To map the SPN in AD then you have to add the SPN to the user account, this is documented in the first link below either directly or using a tool called SetSPN. You might say that is complex, well it is and thats why SQL Server tries to do it for you, at start up it tries to connect to AD and set the SPN on the account it is running as, clearly that can only happen IF SQL is running as a domain account AND importantly it has permission to do so. By default a normal domain user account doesn't have the correct permission, and is why so many people have this problem. If the account is a domain admin then it will have permission, but non of us run SQL using domain admin accounts do we. You might also note that the SPN contains the port number (this isn't a requirement now in sql 2008 but I won't go into that), so if you set it manually and you are using dynamic ports (the default for a named instance) what do you do, well every time the port changes you need to change the SPN allocated to the account. Thats why its advised to let SQL Server register the SPN itself. You may also have thought, well what happens if I change my service account, won't that lead to two accounts with the same SPN. Possibly. Having two accounts with the same SPN is definitely a problem. Why? Well because if there are two accounts Kerberos can't identify the exact account that the service is running as, it could be either account, and so your security falls back to NTLM. SETSPN is useful for finding duplicate SPNs Reading this you will probably be thinking Oh my goodness this is really difficult. It is however I've found today in investigating something else that there is an easy option. Use Network Service as your service account. Network Service is a special account and is tied to the computer. It appears that Network Service has the update rights to AD to set an SPN mapping for the computer account. This then allows the SPN mapping to work. I believe this also works for the local system account. To get all the SPNs in your AD run the following, it could be a large file, so you might want to restrict it to a specific OU, or CN ldifde -d "DC=<domain>" -l servicePrincipalName -F spn.txt You will read in the links below that you need SQL to register the SPN this is done how to use Kerberos authenticaiton in SQL Server - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/319723 Using Kerberos with SQL Server - http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2005/10/12/479871.aspx Understanding Kerberos and NTLM authentication in SQL Server Connections - http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2006/12/02/understanding-kerberos-and-ntlm-authentication-in-sql-server-connections.aspx Summary The only reason I personally know to use a domain account is when you can't get kerberos to work and you want to do BULK INSERT or other network service that requires access to a a remote server. In this case you have to resort to using SQL authentication and the SQL Server uses its service account to access the remote service, and thus you need a domain account. You migth need this if using some forms of replication. I've always found Kerberos awkward to setup and so fallen back to this domain account approach. So in summary to get Kerberos to work try using the network service or local system accounts. • Consuming web service from BizTalk with authentication credentials

    - by lox
I am trying to consume a web service from BizTalk by supplying credentials in the SOAP adapter port. I type in the Web Service URL and then I have the choice of Anonymous, Basic, Digest and NTLM authentication types. How do I supply my username, password and domain?.. when testing with soapUI it works perfectly. The only way I get to supply credentials is Basic or Digest but no matter what I fill in I get a "not authroized" error. The strange thing is that it actually works when I choose the NTLM authentication type but how does it get acces when I have not supplied the credentials. And there is no way that my server has direct access to the service?

  • Creating and debugging a Sharepoint Services 3.0 WebPart

    - by Filip Ekberg
I am trying to create a WebPart for my locally installed Sharepoint Services 3.0 and I've followed various tips and guides to get it all working. However somewhere on the road I must have missed something or this is just not "in all the books". When creating an empty Sharepoint WebPart and just hitting F5 to debug it, I get the following message: Error 1 The HTTP request is unauthorized with client authentication scheme 'Negotiate'. The authentication header received from the server was 'Negotiate,NTLM'. 0 0 And as this article from microsoft suggests I did enable Negotiate, NTLM. But it's still not working, Any suggestions?

  • How to get Alfresco login ticket without user password, but with impersonating user with user principal name (UPN)

    - by dok
I'm writing a DLL that has function for getting Alfresco login ticket without using user password, using only a user principal name (UPN). I’m calling alfresco REST API service /wcservice. I use NTLM in Alfresco. I’m impersonating users using WindowsIdentity constructor as explained here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms998351.aspx#paght000023_impersonatingbyusingwindowsidentity. I checked and user is properly impersonated (I checked WindowsIdentity.GetCurrent().Name property). After impersonating a user, I try to make HttpWebRequest and set its credentials with CredentialsCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials. I get the error: The remote server returned an error: (401) Unauthorized. at System.Net.HttpWebRequest.GetResponse() When I use new NetworkCredential("username", "P@ssw0rd") to set request credentials, I get Alfresco login ticket (HttpStatusCode.OK, 200). Is there any way that I can get Alfresco login ticket without user password? Here is the code that I'm using: private string GetTicket(string UPN) { WindowsIdentity identity = new WindowsIdentity(UPN); WindowsImpersonationContext context = null; try { context = identity.Impersonate(); MakeWebRequest(); } catch (Exception e) { return e.Message + Environment.NewLine + e.StackTrace; } finally { if (context != null) { context.Undo(); } } } private string MakeWebRequest() { string URI = "http://alfrescoserver/alfresco/wcservice/mg/util/login"; HttpWebRequest request = WebRequest.Create(URI) as HttpWebRequest; request.CookieContainer = new CookieContainer(1); //request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential("username", "p@ssw0rd"); // It works with this request.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultNetworkCredentials; // It doesn’t work with this //request.Credentials = CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials; // It doesn’t work with this either try { using (HttpWebResponse response = request.GetResponse() as HttpWebResponse) { StreamReader sr = new StreamReader(response.GetResponseStream()); return sr.ReadToEnd(); } } catch (Exception e) { return (e.Message + Environment.NewLine + e.StackTrace); } } Here are records from Alfresco stdout.log (if it helps in any way): 17:18:04,550 DEBUG [app.servlet.NTLMAuthenticationFilter] Processing request: /alfresco/wcservice/mg/util/login SID:7453F7BD4FD2E6A61AD40A31A37733A5 17:18:04,550 DEBUG [web.scripts.DeclarativeRegistry] Web Script index lookup for uri /mg/util/login took 0.526239ms 17:18:04,550 DEBUG [app.servlet.NTLMAuthenticationFilter] New NTLM auth request from 10.**.**.** (10.**.**.**:1229) 17:18:04,566 DEBUG [app.servlet.NTLMAuthenticationFilter] Processing request: /alfresco/wcservice/mg/util/login SID:7453F7BD4FD2E6A61AD40A31A37733A5 17:18:04,566 DEBUG [web.scripts.DeclarativeRegistry] Web Script index lookup for uri /mg/util/login took 0.400909ms 17:18:04,566 DEBUG [app.servlet.NTLMAuthenticationFilter] Received type1 [Type1:0xe20882b7,Domain:<NotSet>,Wks:<NotSet>] 17:18:04,566 DEBUG [app.servlet.NTLMAuthenticationFilter] Client domain null 17:18:04,675 DEBUG [app.servlet.NTLMAuthenticationFilter] Sending NTLM type2 to client - [Type2:0x80000283,Target:AlfrescoServerA,Ch:197e2631cc3f9e0a]

The Authentication scheme is NTLM and i wrote an implementation based on this (http://hc.apache.org/httpcomponents-client-ga/ntlm.html). When i try to connect supplying NTCredentials (username, password, host & domain), i get a 500 error saying "The requested function is not supported". I am trying to understand this error. Does anyone know what this error is? and Why is this occuring? Thanks

  • Windows 2008 R2 SMB / CIFS Logging to diagnose Brother MFC Network Scanning

    - by Steven Potter
I am attempting to setup network scanning on a brother MFC-9970CDW printer. According to the Brother documentation, the printer is setup to connect to any CIFS network share. I applied all of the appropriate setting in the printer however I get a "sending error" when I try to scan a document. When I look at the logs of the 2008 R2 server that I am attempting to connect to; I can see in the security log where the printer successfully authenticates, however nothing else is logged. I would assume that immediately after the authentication, the printer is making a CIFS request and some sort of error is occurring, however I can't seem to find any way to log this information to find out what is going on. Is it possible to get Windows 2008 to log SMB/CIFS traffic? Followup: I installed Microsoft netmon and captured the packets associated with the transaction: 510 3:04:28 PM 7/9/2012 34.4277743 System 192.168.1.134 192.168.1.10 SMB SMB:C; Negotiate, Dialect = NT LM 0.12 {SMBOverTCP:30, TCP:29, IPv4:22} 511 3:04:28 PM 7/9/2012 34.4281246 System 192.168.1.10 192.168.1.134 SMB SMB:R; Negotiate, Dialect is NT LM 0.12 (#0), SpnegoToken (1.3.6.1.5.5.2) {SMBOverTCP:30, TCP:29, IPv4:22} 519 3:04:29 PM 7/9/2012 34.8986214 System 192.168.1.134 192.168.1.10 SMB SMB:C; Session Setup Andx, NTLM NEGOTIATE MESSAGE {SMBOverTCP:30, TCP:29, IPv4:22} 520 3:04:29 PM 7/9/2012 34.8989310 System 192.168.1.10 192.168.1.134 SMB SMB:R; Session Setup Andx, NTLM CHALLENGE MESSAGE - NT Status: System - Error, Code = (22) STATUS_MORE_PROCESSING_REQUIRED {SMBOverTCP:30, TCP:29, IPv4:22} 522 3:04:29 PM 7/9/2012 34.9022870 System 192.168.1.134 192.168.1.10 SMB SMB:C; Session Setup Andx, NTLM AUTHENTICATE MESSAGEVersion:v2, Domain: CORP, User: PRINTSUPOFF, Workstation: BRN001BA9AD1FE6 {SMBOverTCP:30, TCP:29, IPv4:22} 523 3:04:29 PM 7/9/2012 34.9032421 System 192.168.1.10 192.168.1.134 SMB SMB:R; Session Setup Andx {SMBOverTCP:30, TCP:29, IPv4:22} 525 3:04:29 PM 7/9/2012 34.9051855 System 192.168.1.134 192.168.1.10 SMB SMB:C; Tree Connect Andx, Path = \\192.168.1.10\IPC$, Service = ????? {SMBOverTCP:30, TCP:29, IPv4:22} 526 3:04:29 PM 7/9/2012 34.9053083 System 192.168.1.10 192.168.1.134 SMB SMB:R; Tree Connect Andx, Service = IPC {SMBOverTCP:30, TCP:29, IPv4:22} 528 3:04:29 PM 7/9/2012 34.9073573 System 192.168.1.134 192.168.1.10 DFSC DFSC:Get DFS Referral Request, FileName: \\192.168.1.10\NSCFILES, MaxReferralLevel: 3 {SMB:33, SMBOverTCP:30, TCP:29, IPv4:22} 529 3:04:29 PM 7/9/2012 34.9152042 System 192.168.1.10 192.168.1.134 SMB SMB:R; Transact2, Get Dfs Referral - NT Status: System - Error, Code = (549) STATUS_NOT_FOUND {SMB:33, SMBOverTCP:30, TCP:29, IPv4:22} 531 3:04:29 PM 7/9/2012 34.9169738 System 192.168.1.134 192.168.1.10 SMB SMB:C; Tree Disconnect {SMBOverTCP:30, TCP:29, IPv4:22} 532 3:04:29 PM 7/9/2012 34.9170688 System 192.168.1.10 192.168.1.134 SMB SMB:R; Tree Disconnect {SMBOverTCP:30, TCP:29, IPv4:22} As you can see, the DFS referral fails and the transaction is shut down. • Mac OS X roaming profile from Samba with OpenLDAP backend on Ubuntu 11.10

    - by Sam Hammamy
I have been battling for a week now to get my Mac (Mountain Lion) to authenticate on my home network's OpenLDAP and Samba. From several sources, like the Ubuntu community docs, and other blogs, and after a hell of a lot of trial and error and piecing things together, I have created a samba.ldif that will pass the smbldap-populate when combined with apple.ldif and I have a fully functional OpenLDAP server and a Samba PDC that uses LDAP to authenticate the OS X Machine. The problem is that when I login, the home directory is not created or pulled from the server. I get the following in system.log Sep 21 06:09:15 Sams-MacBook-Pro.local SecurityAgent[265]: User info context values set for sam Sep 21 06:09:15 Sams-MacBook-Pro.local authorizationhost[270]: in pam_sm_authenticate(): Got user: sam Sep 21 06:09:15 Sams-MacBook-Pro.local authorizationhost[270]: in pam_sm_authenticate(): Got ruser: (null) Sep 21 06:09:15 Sams-MacBook-Pro.local authorizationhost[270]: in pam_sm_authenticate(): Got service: authorization Sep 21 06:09:15 Sams-MacBook-Pro.local authorizationhost[270]: in od_principal_for_user(): no authauth availale for user. Any help is appreciated, because I'm banging my head against the wall at this point. By the way, I intend to create a blog on my vps just for this, and create an install script in python that people can download so no one has to go through what I've had to go through this week :) After some sleep I am going to try to login from a windows machine and report back here. Thanks Sam

  • QNTC and Windows Server 2008 R2

    - by Ben
I am having a really hard time getting an iSeries (AS/400) machine talking to my new Windows Server 2008 R2 box using the QNTC file system on the iSeries. I had similar problems getting it to initially talk to a Windows Server 2003 machine, but enabling the local Guest account on the 2003 box solved that one. No such luck with the new 2008 box. When I do a WRKLNK /QNTC/SVR01 on the iSeries (which should show share listings, and does on any 2003 boxes) all I get is (Cannot find object to match specified name.). I know the iSeries likes the same username and password on the remote server, but unfortunately for us this is not the case. Anyhow, it does currently work with different username/password combinations on a 2003 box. To try and get the wretched things talking, I have made the 2008 server pretty open but the iSeries will not see shares on it. I have enabled the local Guest account, turned Windows firewall off, set the share permissions so Everyone has full control but to no avail. I read something on the internet about the iSeries only being able to handle NTLM authentication (and I understand by default that Server 2008 R2 only uses NTLMv2 and has NTLM disabled), so I made a special group policy for the server and tweaked all Group Policy settings under Computer Configuration\Policies\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options but the iSeries STILL won't see it. We have a team of programmers who do all the system administration of the iSeries, but they are stumped for ideas on their side, and I'm stumped for ideas on my side. This is driving me crazy now, and if anybody has managed to get an iSeries to talk to Windows Server 2008 R2 using QNTC I would be very appreciative of any suggestions, be it on the Windows side, iSeries settings or even IBM PTF's that might patch anything. The iSeries is running V5R4 and I have *SECOFR privileges on it, if it helps. One final (most important!) note - The programmers think it's my system being tricky, and I think it's theirs - please prove me right :)

  • Remote Desktop to Server 2008R2 fails from one particular Win7 client

    - by Jesse McGrew
I have a VPS running Windows Web Server 2008 R2. I'm able to connect using Remote Desktop from my home PC (Windows 7), personal laptop (Windows 7), and work laptop (Windows XP). However, I cannot connect from my work PC (Windows 7). I receive the error "The logon attempt failed" in the RDP client, and the server event log shows "An account failed to log on" with this explanation: Subject: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: - Account Domain: - Logon ID: 0x0 Logon Type: 3 Account For Which Logon Failed: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: username Account Domain: hostname Failure Information: Failure Reason: Unknown user name or bad password. The server is part of a domain but my account is local, so I'm logging in using a username of the form hostname\username. None of the clients are part of a domain. The server uses a self-signed certificate, and connecting from home I get a warning about that, but connecting from work I just get the logon error.

  • IIS6 intranet site using integrated authentication fails to load when accessed externally

    - by maik
I've developed a couple of internal sites for my organization that use integrated authentication. Ultimately we want these sites to be accessible externally to users with domain-joined computers. The sites work as expected on domain computers while on the internal network. The problem comes when I take my laptop home and try to access those sites. IIS only has integrated authentication enabled for the two sites. When I browse to the site using IE8 I get a username/password prompt asking for domain credentials. I can put those in and it will work, but the goal is to use the cached token for integrated authentication. Next I reasoned that IE wouldn't response to an integrated auth request (is NTLM the right term for this?) unless the site was trusted. I tried adding the site to Trusted Sites but I get the same behavior as the before. I then added the site to Local Intranet sites and that is where things get weird. I get a generic error page from IE, no error code or anything. Just for funsies I loaded up Firefox (which I had previously set up to use integrated authentication) and I added this new site to network.automatic-ntlm-auth.trusted-uris. Much to my surprise I was able to load the pages up with no problem at all and saw exactly what I was expecting (including verification that the integrated authentication worked). My mind is a bit boggled at the moment as I'm not really sure where to go from here. I was hoping some of you may be able to provide some insight.

  • 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable

    - by Porch
I setup a small box with Server 2003 64bit to be used as a webserver and email server for a small school. Real simple stuff for a few users. A simple website and a handful of emails. rDNS and spf records setup and pass every test I found including test at dnsstuff.com. Email sending to almost every email address (google, hotmail, aol, whatever) works. However, with one domain, I get an bounce back with the error. 550 Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable It's another school running Exchange judging from some packet sniffing with WireShark. Every email on this domain I have tried sending to gives this error. The email address is valid as I can send to it from my personal, and gmail account without a problem. Does anyone know of some anti-spam software that gives an 550 error like the above? What else could this be? Thanks for any suggestions. • Remote Desktop to Server 2008 fails from one particular Win7 client

  • Exchange 2010 issuing NDRs to Hotmail/Live & few other domains on receipt of message

    - by John Patrick Dandison
I'm working through a beast of an issue at the moment. Exchange 2010 single server on prem Hybrid deployment to Office 365 ESMTP filtering turned off on ASA Certain domains (most consistently, Hotmail/Live) cannot send us mail. At one point, we couldn't send out either, but I created a new Send Connector that forces HELO instead of EHLO. I turned on SMTP logging, an example of the failed inbound message connection is below. I've read that it could be that reverse DNS is the problem, i.e., the exchange banner smtp address needs to reverse-DNS back to the same IP. Since it's the default exchange connector, its banner is the server's name, but the DNS name of the MX record is different. I'm waiting for the PTR records to update to reflect the internal name as well. Is that the right direction? Is this all DNS or something different? • Anonymous Login attemps from IPs all over Asia, how do I stop them from being able to do this?

    - by Ryan
We had a successful hack attempt from Russia and one of our servers was used as a staging ground for further attacks, actually somehow they managed to get access to a Windows account called 'services'. I took that server offline as it was our SMTP server and no longer need it (3rd party system in place now). Now some of our other servers are having these ANONYMOUS LOGIN attempts in the Event Viewer that have IP addresses coming from China, Romania, Italy (I guess there's some Europe in there too)... I don't know what these people want but they just keep hitting the server. How can I prevent this? I don't want our servers compromised again, last time our host took our entire hardware node off of the network because it was attacking other systems, causing our services to go down which is really bad. How can I prevent these strange IP addresses from trying to access my servers? They are Windows Server 2003 R2 Enterprise 'containers' (virtual machines) running on a Parallels Virtuozzo HW node, if that makes a difference. I can configure each machine individually as if it were it's own server of course... UPDATE: New login attempts still happening, now these ones are tracing back to Ukraine... • Exchange emails not delivering for one user

    - by Cylindric
We have an Exchange infrastructure going through a migration from 2003 SP2 (call it ExOld) to 2010 (ExNew). All users are now on the new server, but mail is still being directed to ExOld until testing is complete. ExNew sends emails directly to the internet. For one particular user, emails don't seem to be being reliably delivered, but the odd thing is that it's not all emails. I can see external emails in his inbox. If I send an internal email it works fine. If I send an email from Gmail to him it doesn't get through. If I telnet from outside to ExOld I can send an email to him. If I telnet from outside to ExNew I can send an email to him. • Unable to remove invalid(orphaned?) SPNs

  • 401 Using Multiple Authentication methods IE 10 only

    - by jon3laze
I am not sure if this is more of a coding issue or server setup issue so I've posted it on stackoverflow and here... On our production site we've run into an issue that is specific to Internet Explorer 10. I am using jQuery doing an ajax POST to a web service on the same domain and in IE10 I am getting a 401 response, IE9 works perfectly fine. I should mention that we have mirrored code in another area of our site and it works perfectly fine in IE10. The only difference between the two areas is that one is under a subdomain and the other is at the root level. www.my1stdomain.com vs. portal.my2nddomain.com The directory structure on the server for these are: \my1stdomain\webservice\name\service.aspx \portal\webservice\name\service.aspx Inside of the \portal\ and \my1stdomain\ folders I have a page that does an ajax call, both pages are identical. $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: '/webservice/name/service.aspx/function', cache: false, contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8', dataType: 'json', data: '{ "json": "data" }', success: function() { }, error: function() { } }); I've verified permissions are the same on both folders on the server side. I've applied a workaround fix of placing the <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" value="IE=9"> to force compatibility view (putting IE into compatibility mode fixes the issue). This seems to be working in IE10 on Windows 7, however IE 10 on Windows 8 still sees the same issue. These pages are classic asp with the headers that are being included, also there are no other meta tags being used. The doctype is being specified as <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//" "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd"> on the portal page and <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> on the main domain. UPDATE1 I used Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4 on the server to capture the request. I used the following filter to capture the 401: Property.HttpStatusCode.StringToNumber == 401 This was the response - Http: Response, HTTP/1.1, Status: Unauthorized, URL: /webservice/name/service.aspx/function Using Multiple Authetication Methods, see frame details ProtocolVersion: HTTP/1.1 StatusCode: 401, Unauthorized Reason: Unauthorized - ContentType: application/json; charset=utf-8 - MediaType: application/json; charset=utf-8 MainType: application/json charset: utf-8 Server: Microsoft-IIS/7.0 jsonerror: true - WWWAuthenticate: Negotiate - Authenticate: Negotiate WhiteSpace: AuthenticateData: Negotiate - WWWAuthenticate: NTLM - Authenticate: NTLM WhiteSpace: AuthenticateData: NTLM XPoweredBy: ASP.NET Date: Mon, 04 Mar 2013 21:13:39 GMT ContentLength: 105 HeaderEnd: CRLF - payload: HttpContentType = application/json; charset=utf-8 HTTPPayloadLine: {"Message":"Authentication failed.","StackTrace":null,"ExceptionType":"System.InvalidOperationException"} The thing here that really stands out is Unauthorized, URL: /webservice/name/service.aspx/function Using Multiple Authentication Methods With this I'm still confused as to why this only happens in IE10 if it's a permission/authentication issue. What was added to 10, or where should I be looking for the root cause of this? • Remote Desktop Services Gateway Issue

    - by AVandelay05
Alright fellow techies here's the rundown. I have installed Server 2008 r2 Remote Dekstop Services on a VM in my network. I installed the following RD role services: RD Session Host, Licensing, Connection Broker, Gateway, Web Access. When I set things up originally, the gateway server and RDWeb worked as it should locally. After getting things running locally (remoteserver.domainname.local) I wanted to test things externally. From the outside, I couldn't get things running (meaning I could connect to rdweb access externally, but when I tried to run an app I would get the message "can't connect/find computer"). Here's my setup for external access The VM has every RD Services role services installed on it, meaning it acts as gateway, rd web access, session host, licensing, the whole bit. I made a self-signed certificate on the gateway server (gateway.domainname.net is the cert name). Internally, I have a secondary forward-lookup zone called domainname.net with an A record gateway pointing to the local IP of the gateway server. On our public DNS (domainname.net) I have an A record gateway. This is to access the RDWeb externally. In IIS I have the following authentication settings RDWeb: All disabled except for anonymous authentication Rpc: All disabled except for basic and windows RpcWithCert: All disbled except for windows authentication I have the necessary web access config in our sonicwall tz210 (https and rdp, external ip pointing to local ip of rds server) RAP and CAP have the correct user and computer groups, authentication, and allowed devices After all of this, here's what happens accessing externally. I can login correctly to RDWeb Access (I've tried a bogus login, I can't login to it so that's working properly). I see the Apps for use. I click on an app, click connect, the credential window opens, I put in the correct user creds, it tries to connect to the gateway server, but then the cred window comes back in view. I tried to reach a limit of failed logins, but never reached one, haha. So from the same external client machine I try to connect to the gateway through a Remote Desktop connection. I put in the correct gateway settings in the RD window, try to connect and get the same results as I did in RDWeb access. I checked the event logs on the RD Services machine and saw the following event IDs around the time I tried to login externally: ID 6037 with the message "The program svchost.exe, with the assigned process ID 2168, could not authenticate locally by using the target name host/gateway.domainname.net. The target name used is not valid. A target name should refer to one of the local computer names, for example, the DNS host name. Try a different target name." ID 10 RADWebAccess "RD Web Access was unable to access gateway.domainname.net, which is the server that is specified as running the RemoteApp and Desktop Connection Management service. Ensure that the computer account of the RD Web Access server is a member of the TS Web Access Computers security group on gateway.domainname.net" ID 4625 "An account failed to log on. Subject: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: - Account Domain: - Logon ID: 0x0 Logon Type: 3 Account For Which Logon Failed: Security ID: NULL SID Account Name: Administrator Account Domain: gateway.domainname.net Failure Information: Failure Reason: Unknown user name or bad password. Status: 0xc000006d Sub Status: 0xc000006a Process Information: Caller Process ID: 0x0 Caller Process Name: - Network Information: Workstation Name: USER-LAPTOP Source Network Address: External IP Source Port: 63125 Detailed Authentication Information: Logon Process: NtLmSsp Authentication Package: NTLM Transited Services: - Package Name (NTLM only): - Key Length: 0 This event is generated when a logon request fails. It is generated on the computer where access was attempted. The Subject fields indicate the account on the local system which requested the logon. This is most commonly a service such as the Server service, or a local process such as Winlogon.exe or Services.exe. The Logon Type field indicates the kind of logon that was requested. The most common types are 2 (interactive) and 3 (network). The Process Information fields indicate which account and process on the system requested the logon. The Network Information fields indicate where a remote logon request originated. Workstation name is not always available and may be left blank in some cases. The authentication information fields provide detailed information about this specific logon request. - Transited services indicate which intermediate services have participated in this logon request. - Package name indicates which sub-protocol was used among the NTLM protocols." I don't think the VM has a null SID. The SID of the VM and it's physical host have different SIDS. I can access the blank page for rpc externally using the external gateway name. It seems like authentication is a problem. Also, is it a problem that the external name of the gateway server doesn't match the local name? The external name (which the cert is based on) is gateway.domainname.net and the internal name is remoteserver.domainname.local. That's the only thing I can think of that would be the problem, but the external name has to be different from the local right? Internally, I ping gateway.domainname.net and it gives me the correct local IP of the server. Now, there isn't an actual computer name in AD, but I don't know how I would achieve that? I hope I've been clear....any help would be appreciated. I think I'm close to achieving this. :)

  • ActionMailer and Exchange

    - by Jason Nerer
Hello Community, I successfully send Mails via SMTP using my Rails App and my Postfix Server. Now I need to move to an Exchange: Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 6.0.3790.3959 that has POP3 and SMTP support enabled. I use actionmailer 1.2.5 and am not able to successfully login to the server while trying to send a mail. In case I use Mail.app sending and recieving works fine as long as I change the authentication schema to "Password". Checking the server looks like so: READ Nov 18 10:37:00.509 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNone] -- host:mail.my-mail-server-domain.com -- port:25 -- socket:0x11895cf20 -- thread:0x11b036a10 250-mail.my-mail-server-domain.com Hello [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] 250-TURN 250-SIZE 250-ETRN 250-PIPELINING 250-DSN 250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES 250-8bitmime 250-BINARYMIME 250-CHUNKING 250-VRFY 250-X-EXPS GSSAPI NTLM LOGIN 250-X-EXPS=LOGIN 250-AUTH GSSAPI NTLM LOGIN 250-AUTH=LOGIN 250-X-LINK2STATE 250-XEXCH50 250 OK WROTE Nov 18 10:37:00.852 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNone] -- host:mail.my-mail-server-domain.com -- port:25 -- socket:0x11895cf20 -- thread:0x11b036a10 AUTH LOGIN READ Nov 18 10:37:01.848 [kCFStreamSocketSecurityLevelNone] -- host:mail.my-mail-server-domain.com -- port:25 -- socket:0x11895cf20 -- thread:0x11b036a10 235 2.7.0 Authentication successful. So authentication method :login seems to be properly supported. Now when it comes to my configuration for actionmailer it looks like so: ActionMailer::Base.server_settings = { :address => "mail.my-mail-server-domain.com", :port => 25, :domain => "my-mail-server-domain.com", :authentication => :login, :user_name => "myusername", :password => "mypassword" } And I get authentication errors over and over. I also tried to change :user_name => "my-mail-server-domain.com\myusername" :user_name => "my-mail-server-domain.com\\myusername" :user_name => "myusername/my-mail-server-domain.com" :user_name => "[email protected]" but nothing works. • WCF service with Factory attribute on .svc is not working on web server (IIS6), but is locally using

    - by Jessica
I am working on implementing a non web.config approach of WCF services using the factory attribute on the .svc file per Rick Strahl's blog post: Factory="System.ServiceModel.Activation.WebScriptServiceHostFactory" Locally, I am running IIS7 in Visual Studio 2008 and have no problem, but when I deploy to my web server (currently running IIS6), I am getting an authentication error in the event log: Exception: System.ServiceModel.ServiceActivationException: The service '/Services/ResourcesService.svc' cannot be activated due to an exception during compilation. The exception message is: IIS specified authentication schemes 'IntegratedWindowsAuthentication, Anonymous', but the binding only supports specification of exactly one authentication scheme. Valid authentication schemes are Digest, Negotiate, NTLM, Basic, or Anonymous. Change the IIS settings so that only a single authentication scheme is used.. --- System.InvalidOperationException: IIS specified authentication schemes 'IntegratedWindowsAuthentication, Anonymous', but the binding only supports specification of exactly one authentication scheme. Valid authentication schemes are Digest, Negotiate, NTLM, Basic, or Anonymous. Change the IIS settings so that only a single authentication scheme is used. at System.ServiceModel.Web.WebServiceHost.SetBindingCredentialBasedOnHostedEnvironment(ServiceEndpoint serviceEndpoint, AuthenticationSchemes supportedSchemes) at System.ServiceModel.Web.WebServiceHost.AddAutomaticWebHttpBindingEndpoints(ServiceHost host, IDictionary`2 implementedContracts, String multipleContractsErrorMessage) at System.ServiceModel.WebScriptServiceHost.OnOpening() at System.ServiceModel.Channels.CommunicationObject.Open(TimeSpan timeout) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.CommunicationObject.Open() at System.ServiceModel.ServiceHostingEnvironment.HostingManager.ActivateService(String normalizedVirtualPath) at System.ServiceModel.ServiceHostingEnvironment.HostingManager.EnsureServiceAvailable(String normalizedVirtualPath) After doing some Googling, I changed my authentication settings on the .svc folder within my project (on the server) to only anonymous authentication, but it did not work. I still get web service failed on the calls. IIS7 by default only had anonymous. I do not have any entries in my web.config for the services (I stripped them out per this pattern). I am using a nant script to deploy the website to the server and use this also locally to verify the script was not causing the issue. Any known issue with this? IIS 6 not able to handle?

  • Using Kerberos authentication for SQL Server 2008

    - by vivek m
I am trying to configure my SQL Server to use Kerberos authentication. My setup is like this - My setup is like this- I have 2 virtual PCs in a Windows XP Pro SP3 host. Both VPCs are Windows Server 2003 R2. One VPC acts as the DC, DNS Server, DHCP server, has Active Directory installed and the SQL Server default instance is also running on this VPC. The second VPC is the domain member and it acts as the SQL Server client machine. I configured the SPN on the SQL Server service account to get the Kerberos working. On the client VPC it seems like it is using Kerberos authentication (as desired)- C:\Documents and Settings\administrator.SHAREPOINTSVC>sqlcmd -S vm-winsrvr2003 1> select auth_scheme from sys.dm_exec_connections where session_id=@@spid 2> go auth_scheme ---------------------------------------- KERBEROS (1 rows affected) 1> but on the server computer (where the SQL Server instance is actually running) it looks like it is still using NTLM authentication- . This is not a remote instance, the sql server is local to this machine. C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator>sqlcmd 1> select auth_scheme from sys.dm_exec_connections where session_id=@@spid 2> go auth_scheme ---------------------------------------- NTLM (1 rows affected) 1> What can i do so that it uses Kerberos on the server computer as well ? (or is this something that I should not expect)

  • IIS to SQL Server kerberos auth issues

    - by crosan
We have a 3rd party product that allows some of our users to manipulate data in a database (on what we'll call SvrSQL) via a website on a separate server (SvrWeb). On SvrWeb, we have a specific, non-default website setup for this application so instead of going to http://SvrWeb.company.com to get to the website we use http://application.company.com which resolves to SvrWeb and the host headers resolve to the correct website. There is also a specific application pool set up for this site which uses an Active Directory account identity we'll call "company\SrvWeb_iis". We're setup to allow delegation on this account and to allow it to impersonate another login which we want it to do. (we want this account to pass along the AD credentials of the person signed into the website to SQL Server instead of a service account. We also set up the SPNs for the SrvWeb_iis account via the following command: setspn -A HTTP/SrvWeb.company.com SrvWeb_iis The website pulls up, but the section of the website that makes the call to the database returns the message: Cannot execute database query. Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. I thought we had the SPN information set up correctly, but when I check the security event log on SrvWeb I see entries of my logging in, but it seems to be using NTLM and not kerberos: Logon Type: 3 Logon Process: NtLmSsp Authentication Package: NTLM Any ideas or articles that cover this setup in detail would be extremely appreciated! If it helps, we are using SQL Server 2005, and both the web and SQL servers are Windows 2003.

  • System Account Logon Failures ever 30 seconds

    - by floyd
We have two Windows 2008 R2 SP1 servers running in a SQL failover cluster. On one of them we are getting the following events in the security log every 30 seconds. The parts that are blank are actually blank. Has anyone seen similar issues, or assist in tracking down the cause of these events? No other event logs show anything relevant that I can tell.
