  • Need Help Accessing the Vista Wampserver localhost from Virtual PC 2007 running an XP VM.

    (I had posted this on stack overflow but it was suggested there that I post it here instead). I have a Vista laptop on which I'm running wampserver. I have Virtual PC 2007 setup with Windows XP running on the VM. My goal is to be able to use the XP VM to run IE6 to view the localhost in the Vista wampserver. I'm not interested in having the XP VM have any access to the internet -- only to my Vista wampserver's localhost. The vista wampserver works fine. As suggested on a blog I read, I installed the loopback adapter on Vista and I set the loopback to 192.168.21.1 and I set the xp vm ip to 192.168.21.2. I am able to successfully ping the vista-loopback adapter from the xp vm. I've turned the wampserver to "server online", and I've disabled the firewalls in both the vista host and the xp vm. But for some reason, I still can't seem to get the virtual XP to see the localhost on the vista wampserver. I've tried using the vista //name, and I've tried the ip 192.168.21.1 directly and with the port. For whatever its worth, I'm not able to see anything under the XM VM's network places (though I don't know if I'm supposed to be able to see anything). So at this point I'm stuck and I'm still not sure how to get this XP VM to "talk" to my vista wampserver localhost. Any advice on how to fix this problem is much appreciated. Every day I look at the "Latest Visitors" in my CPanel, and today there were some strange entries (one is pasted below). Not knowing any better, it looks to me like there is some site that's referring users to my site, for some reason.   • Is there a way to make IETab always open a site in Internet Explorer?

    Hello, IETab offers a setting that lets you define sites that should always be opened using IE's rendering engine. This is great and I use it all the time. There are a few sites, though, with which I encounter problems when I access them this way (needless to say that these have some IE-only features, otherwise I would simply use Firefox without IETab). So my question is: is there a way to make IETab (or any other extension that does the same thing) automatically open a specific list of sites in IE? To be clear: I want a way to specify a list of sites that will open an external IE process from Firefox, when clicking on those links or bookmarks from within Firefox.

  • Unable to browse one server unless using FQDN all others work.

    Hello - I installed 4 new Windows 2008 R2 Servers. All are joined to the domain. One out of the four will not browse to our DC without using a FQDN. I can ping the DC server and see it in Network neighborhood but when I click on it I get Windows cannot access \SERVER. BUT accessing it by using \server.domain works fine. It is only having problems with the one DC server. Able to browse every other server with UNC without using FQDN.This is the only machine on our domain that is experiencing the problem and have tried different user accounts.

  • Using jQuery.UI CSS Framework for DIV Styling

    Hi folks, a Project I am currently working on uses the jQuery UI framework for some of its widgets. To provide the user with a global look and feel I would like to use the framework also for its css stuff. I am implementing at the moment a dashboard like homepage, where the user can see an overall status of its data. This dashboard is build of some divs that should be aligned into a grid layout. I try to style the divs like follows <div class="ui-widget"> <div class="ui-widget-header">Box Header</div> <div class="ui-widget-content"> Content of the Box </div> </div> Later I would like to implement some draggable-and-sortable functionality. The Problem I am facing right now is that the boxes aren't properly aligned. Does anyone has a hint on using jQuery.UI for that kind of css work? I was studing the CSS framework documentation on jqueryui.com but there aren't that much information. best regards, Gordon

    Hi all, I want to implement the concept of a Workspace. This is a global concept - all other code will interact with one instance of this Workspace. The Workspace will be responsible for maintaining the current system state (i.e. interacting with the system model, persisting the system state etc) So what's the best design strategy for my Workspace, bearing in mind this will have to be testable (using RSpec now, but happy to look at alternatives). Having read thru some open source projects out there and I've seen 3 strategies. None of which I can identify as "the best practice". They are: Include the singleton class. But how testable is this? Will the global state of Workspace change between tests? Implemented all behaviour as class methods. Again how do you test this? Implemented all behaviour as module methods. Not sure about this one at all! Which is best? Or is there another way? Thanks, Gordon

  • users unable to add registry keys to HKCU

    I may not have this 100% correct so need some clarification. Are normal users on a 2003 terminal server allowed to add registry keys the their own HKCU section in the registry, or are they only allowed to edit existing ones? The reason I ask is that we have 3 keys that we need to add for each user on login. I thought it would be as simple as having a straightforward batchscript run that silently adds the keys for the user. Here is what I used: regedit.exe "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop\example.reg" When the user runs this batch scipt, they see nothing as you would expect, but the keys are not added. If I simply run the .reg file as the user, it asks if I want to add the key, but then has an error saying there was an error accessing the registry. Do I need something a bit more complex to accomplish this task.   • IPv6: Can't ping anything - "Operation not permitted"

    I've been working on getting IPv6 support into my network, and had everything working properly for a short while. The server is running Ubuntu Server 8.10. Now however whenever I attempt to do anything related to IPv6 on the server, I get "Operation not permitted". This is coming from things like wide-dhcpv6-client (when trying to get an IPv6 address from the ISP) and radvd - both log errors of this type into syslog. I cannot replace the whole thing with System.Environment.NewLine since it will mess up the complete description.   • Problem using PHP to open text file - blank spaces are removed

    Hi All, I'm trying to open and process ASCII files using PHP, but am having problems. The problem is that the blank spaces are removed, which I don't want to have happen, since the files are fixed width. The PHP script I used is this: $myFile = Test.SEG"; $file_handler = fopen ($myFile, r) or die ("Can't open SEG File."); while (!feof($file_handler)) { $dataline = fgets($file_handler); echo $dataline, ""; } I tried pasting samples of the original file in here, but the spaces were removed here as well! At this stage I'm just building the script in steps, getting one step working at a time, but this is as far as I've gotten. I plan to use substr() on '$dataline' to pick out the fields I need. Any suggestions on how to keep the spaces intact? Something tells me it's something to do with encoding, but I don't know for sure. Thanks!

    Hi, I have what is probably a really dumb grep in R question. Apologies, because this seems like it should be so easy - I'm obviously just missing something. I have a vector of strings, let's call it alice. Some of alice is printed out below: T.8EFF.SP.OT1.D5.VSVOVA#4 T.8EFF.SP.OT1.D6.LISOVA#1 T.8EFF.SP.OT1.D6.LISOVA#2 T.8EFF.SP.OT1.D6.LISOVA#3 T.8EFF.SP.OT1.D6.VSVOVA#4 T.8EFF.SP.OT1.D8.VSVOVA#3 T.8EFF.SP.OT1.D8.VSVOVA#4 T.8MEM.SP#1 T.8MEM.SP#3 T.8MEM.SP.OT1.D106.VSVOVA#2 T.8MEM.SP.OT1.D45.LISOVA#1 T.8MEM.SP.OT1.D45.LISOVA#3 I'd like grep to give me the number after the D that appears in some of these strings, conditional on the string containing "LIS" and an empty string or something otherwise. I was hoping that grep would return me the value of a capturing group rather than the whole string. Here's my R-flavoured regexp: pattern <- (?<=\\.D)([0-9]+)(?=.LIS) nothing too complicated. But in order to get what I'm after, rather than just using grep(pattern, alice, value = TRUE, perl = TRUE) I'm doing the following, which seems bad: reg.out <- regexpr( "(?<=\\.D)[0-9]+(?=.LIS)", alice, perl=TRUE ) substr(alice,reg.out,reg.out + attr(reg.out,"match.length")-1) Looking at it now it doesn't seem too ugly, but the amount of messing about it's taken to get this utterly trivial thing working has been embarrassing. Anyone any pointers about how to go about this properly? Bonus marks for pointing me to a webpage that explains the difference between whatever I access with $,@ and attr.

  • Beginners PHP e-mail problem

    I'm working on my first PHP project, and it's going well. I've been able to figure out how to do most of what I need so far, but there's one big problem for me now: E-mail. I'm on a shared server, so I can't install PEAR, and I can't modify my php.ini. According to my host's very limited documentation, I have to use SMTP so I can't (correct me if I'm wrong) use the mail() function. So does anyone have any suggestions on what to do? At this point I just want to send a basic text message, so where would I specify my SMTP port number, user, password and so on? Thanks

  • Beginners PHP / mySQL question

    I'm brand new to PHP & MySQL, and one function I'm creating needs to access a large table or database. I've created the database and it's currently in a MySQL table, which I'm accessing with no problem. The table is 11,000 rows in length, with 8 columns (all text less than 8 characters long) - it's static, and will never change. Without getting too particular, my users will hit a button which will trigger scripts to access the data, say 500 times or more. So in general would it be better practice to include all of this data in a big 'switch' or 'if... then' conditional right in my scripts, rather than opening and accessing the database connection hundreds, or maybe even thousands of times? It just seems like that might be a bottleneck waiting to happen. Thanks!

Is there any way to say to console to display it correct? UPDATE Looks like the problem not in Unicode, I think may be it is displaying question marks because i am not having correct locale in the system (Windows 7)?     I don't want to install PowerToys, I'd rather a simpler solution for this specific problem. I've tried Ctrl+Shift+Right-Click. I've tried adding a registry script, but I get the following error: Cannot import D:\Admin\Reg\Open command window here (Administrator)\Open command window here (Administrator).reg: The specified file is not a registry script. You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor. Any suggestions?
